What’s In Store For Extraordinary Attorney Woo Season 2?

1 year 7 months ago

From the moment attorney Woo introduced herself to her colleagues, I knew this character was going to take me on a fascinating, fun, and eccentric journey. I remember being captivated and not sure what to expect as attorney Woo hesitated before she blurted everything out.

“My name is Woo Young-woo, whether it is read straight or flipped. Kayak, deed, rotator, noon, racecar, Woo Young-woo. Yeoksam Station.”

via Netflix

For anyone who hasn’t seen Extraordinary Attorney Woo, I hope my opening statement persuades you to give at least the first episode a try. The show takes a slice of life from Woo Young-woo while she navigates her internship at the prestigious Hanbada law firm as an autistic genius.

Actress Park Eun-bin’s performance brings an innocent charm and deserves every bit of empathy as she expresses what the character’s life must be like. If you have any emotions, you’ll be affected by her endearing portrayal as a young woman and new attorney with autism.

Former Payday Developer Making a Co-Op Heist FPS With New Studio

1 year 7 months ago

Ulf Andersson, who worked on Payday and Payday 2, is returning to the co-op heist genre with his studio 10 Chambers. During an interview with NME, the developer revealed that his upcoming game will be a cyberpunk style, team-based action game.

“I'm back on the heist s**t, basically,” he said. “So, it's a heist cooperative FPS, and it has a sort of a techno-thriller theme. I read a lot of sci-fi books, and so imagine everything that cyberpunk is inspired by, and a ton of other s**t.”

The Payday games were defined by heavy action – gunning your way out of a bank and making off with as much cash as you could cram into a sports bag.

However, Andersson’s upcoming game isn’t that. “This one won't be constant shooting,” he explained. “Payday had a massive problem where the action would ramp up and then it would just stay ramped up.”

Andersson struck out on his own as CEO and founder of 10 Chambers after working on the two original Payday games, and the new studio is clearly taking a different approach to their upcoming heist game… but how it all works out remains to be seen. Either way, it looks as though it won’t be as difficult as its previous game, GTFO.

“You can sneak for an hour, at least, and then just f*****g die, right?” he said about GTFO. But his next game will be a bit more forgiving. “So, it's not gonna have that hardcore thing to it. It is more mechanically smooth, or you could say, easier to play.”

netflix bioshock

On Friday the Netflix Twitter account announced more details about its live-action feature film adaptation of the Bioshock franchise. Though it notes "franchise," which implies that it will cover more than just the first game, the teaser picture shows Rapture, the setting of the first two games. It is likely that even if the movie focuses on more than the first Bioshock, it will not touch on events in Bioshock Infinite.

Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) will direct the movie, while Michael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049) will write the script. It is unknown who will star in the film, or any of the other staff. More information on that, as well as the release date, will appear in the future.

It’s Morbin’ Time in Marvel’s Spider-Man on PC Thanks to a New Mod

1 year 7 months ago

It seems that while Marvel’s Spider-Man getting ported was a win for those PC players who were never going to pick up a PS4/PS5, it was also a win for modders everywhere. The game has exploded since being ported to PC with mods anywhere from turning Spidey into Homelander from The Boys, or a mod making Spider-Man’s webs entirely invisible.

However, one new mod proves that good memes never die, they just translate into other mediums. That’s right, a mod from NexusMods user HiBlakkes has added a new suit to the game. This suit will allow you to Morb into the tragic vampire himself, Morbius.

Where to Get Fungal Spores in Genshin Impact

1 year 7 months ago

Genshin Impact’s 3.0 update has brought with it a plethora of new content to dig into, not least of which being new materials for crafting and ascension. As with other materials in the game, these new components can only be found through certain means, which may be a hassle to decipher. Fungal Spores are one such item, and if you’re struggling to find them, we’ve got you covered with a guide on where to get Fungal Spores in Genshin Impact.

How to Get Fungal Spores in Genshin Impact

Getting Fungal Spores in Genshin Impact is fairly easy to do, though it is worth noting that they can only be obtained through one method.

This material is only dropped by the Fungi enemies found in the Sumeru area. They can be dropped by any variant of these enemies, and their level doesn’t impact their drop rate, meaning you can farm Fungal Spores from most every Fungi enemy you come across.

As such, you simply need to reach the Sumeru area and start grinding for Spores. It’s not an ideal strategy for getting the stuff, but it’s better than having to jump through endless hoops to get only a minute number of materials.

What Fungal Spores Are Used for

This powdery material is primarily used for character and Talent Ascension. Specifically, it can allow you to Ascend the player character and the newly introduced Tighnari as well as their Dendro Talents. You’ll need 24 Fungal Spores for each character’s Ascensions, meaning you’ll need a total of 48 pieces of the material in all.

Why Did Daemon Steal the Egg in House of the Dragon?

1 year 7 months ago

In season 1, episode 2 of House of the Dragon, we’re already seeing big plays towards control of the Iron Throne. There’s Lord Corlys Velaryon pushing for power in an upfront and diplomatic way. And then there’s Daemon with his underhanded tactics. But why did Daemon steal the egg in House of the Dragon? What are his motivations? Here’s why.

Warning: The following article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon, Season 1 Episode 1 and Episode 2.

Why Did Daemon Steal the Egg in House of the Dragon?

Long story short: to get his brother’s attention. Of course, that was only a single facet of Daemon’s plan to force a visit with Viserys in House of the Dragon. In the premiere episode of House of the Dragon, Viserys sent Daemon away, back to Runestone to his wife but not before Daemon was disinherited. Viserys’ daughter would now be heir to the Iron Throne.

In addition to swiping a dragon egg, Daemon also:

  • Rounded up Gold Cloaks as his own personal army
  • Seized Dragonstone
  • Announced that he would marry Mysaria

For starters, having your own personal army stationed at Dragonstone isn’t a good look; Dragonstone is a seat that the heir inherits, which he no longer is. Secondly, Daemon is already married to Lady Rhea Royce. Before Daemon seized Dragonstone, he was supposed to return to Lady Rhea Royce at Runestone.

Still, it’s quite the power move. Had King Viserys I Targaryen taken the bait, which he almost did, there’s no telling what may have happened. After all, Viserys wouldn’t have a dragon at his call, and we already know Daemon thinks Viserys is a weak king.

New Fatal Fury Will Feature Terry Bogard, More Focus on Single-Player, & More Details

1 year 7 months ago

Back at EVO 2022, SNK announced that a new Fatal Fury/Garou game is coming, but the popular fighting game developer did not provide many details.

At Gamescom 2022 Twinfinite sat down with chief producer Yasuyuki Oda and associate producer Joshua Weatherford, and we tried to glean as much information as possible about the game.

First of all, development has already started. This isn’t a case in which the game has just been greenlit on paper.

That being said, the new Fatal Fury is a “very big release” for SNK, so it’ll be “a little while” before we see more. The developers want to make sure it’s perfect before prime time.

Oda-san mentioned that when he returned to SNK in 2014 (After a long stint at Dimps), one of the first things he said to then president Eikichi Kawasaki was “please let me make a new Garou game.” It took a while for the stars to align, but ever since then bringing the series back has been one of his goals.

We also learn that while there will still be a focus on online play and VS fighting, the new Fatal Fury will also have more of a focus on the single-player mode compared to SNK’s recent releases.

This shouldn’t surprise those who know the series, as the Fatal Fury series has an extremely complex story, so it’s not surprising that the new one may feature an extensive story mode as well.

Speaking of the story, Oda-san acknowledged that the large time gap from the latest Fatal Fury release and today creates a challenge because many of today’s players aren’t aware of what happened in previous entries. The team is definitely thinking about this and they have a few plans to overcome it.

Madden NFL 23 Performance Review

1 year 7 months ago

EA’s latest entry in the long-running Madden series sees some upgrades over the previous-generation game, including improved visuals, presentation, and animation. Today’s analysis is all about graphics, performance, and comparisons between platforms and generations, though I won’t be delving into the details of the sport simulation.

Performance

I’ll be looking at PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, as well as PS4 Pro as the representative for the previous-generation consoles. All of these target and hit 60fps at all times during gameplay, though with the stop-start nature of the game, these segments are rarely that long. The only time I noticed a drop from that solid 60fps line was when the game shifts into realtime replays, inaugural segments, or video wipes, as these can cause short pauses that blend between them, and the video wipes all run at or around 30fps. That said, since these segments represent the TV presentation style, they weren’t of any consequence to gameplay.

The only exception to that 60fps target is in the Quality mode replays on Series X and PS5, which now target 30fps rather than 60. This is the case on PS4 Pro and Series S as well, which only have a single mode, rather than Quality or Performance to choose from. Again, the impact here is minimal considering these sections are non-interactive, and aside from the shifts into these segments, they hold that 30fps with no issues and then blend back to 60fps once play resumes. All in all, every format and mode delivers a smooth and consistent level of performance.

Exclusive: Roberta Williams' Colossal Cave Remake Announced for Nintendo Switch

1 year 7 months ago

Colossal Cave - Reimagined by Roberta Williams is coming to more than PC and Meta Quest 2. In an announcement exclusive to IGN, Cygnus Entertainment confirmed that the upcoming remake will also be coming to Nintendo Switch.

"Colossal Cave - Reimagined by Roberta Williams will soon be accessible to gamers worldwide on an additional platform," Cygnus Entertainment founder and CEO Ken Williams said in a release. "We hope to bring back the spirit of traditional adventure games for devoted fans who grew up with the original game and the new generation of explorers alike. We believe bringing Colossal Cave Reimagined by Roberta Williams to the Nintendo Switch will help us do that."

First announced back in March, Colossal Cave is Roberta and Ken Williams' first game in more than 20 years. The pioneering duo behind Sierra Entertainment were responsible for many of the greatest adventure games of the 1980s and 1990s, including King's Quest and Phantasmagoria.

Colossal Cave was originally conceived as a VR adventure in partnership with Unity, but its move to the Nintendo Switch means that it will be portable, too. It's based on the seminal 1970's text adventure that tasked players with finding "all the treasure" in an intricate labyrinth populated by trolls, bears, and pirates.

Jujutsu Kaisen USJ restaurant with Satoru Gojo Clone-oid statue photo spot

More details about the temporary Jujutsu Kaisen-themed attractions in Universal Studios Japan have appeared, this time featuring the restaurant. The SAIDO Japanese Restaurant will temporarily convert into the Jujutsu High School Cafeteria between September 2022 and July 2023. In addition to an exclusive menu inspired by the manga and anime franchise, the restaurant will also have a photo spot featuring a Clone-oid statue of Satoru Gojo.

The restaurant will offer a special menu containing meals and beverages such as a panda-decorated parfait for the event's duration. The venue will also sell a drink bottle shaped after a 3D photo box featuring Yuji Itadori, and a barbecue-flavored popcorn bucket with Satoru Gojo's design.

[gallery columns="2" ids="934478,934479" link="file"]

USJ coined the term "Clone-oid" to refer to its technology that allows them to produce lifelike statues of fictional characters. It had previously made Clone-oids of Attack on Titan characters, which it displayed as early as 2015. People who order the eligible menu entries in the upcoming Jujutsu Kaisen restaurant will be able to take a photo with the Satoru Gojo Clone-oid. The venue will also offer a specially designed photo folder for an extra fee.

The Next Mafia Game Is In Development

1 year 7 months ago

Mafia

Mafia celebrates its 20th anniversary today, and in a new blog post by Hanger 13, the principal minds behind the series reflect on its creation and history while also teasing what’s next.

Longtime Mafia designers Roman Hladík (general manager), Tomáš Hřebíček (head of production/media director), and Alex Cox (game director) sat down to discuss Mafia’s entire history and their most cherished memories of the franchise. It’s worth a read if you consider yourself a diehard fan (check it out here), but the most exciting news from the conversation is the confirmation that the next game in the series is in development.

Hřebíček writes:

“I'm happy to confirm we've started work on an all-new Mafia project! While it's a few years away and we can't share anything more right now, we're really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories.”

“A few years away” is a long time to wait, especially since the last mainline entry, Mafia III, is approaching six years old, launching in October 2016. But we're happy to see the series continue and are curious to see where it heads next. In 2020, Hanger 13 released enhanced remasters of all three games, the most substantial being a complete remake of the original dubbed Mafia: Definitive Edition

Battlefield 2042 Teases New Battle Pass Ahead of Season 2 Launch

1 year 7 months ago

Last Thursday was the very first bit of gameplay for season two, Master of Arms for Battlefield 2042. It showed off a few additions coming with the new season. However, a new battle pass trailer has shone more light on what players will be able to earn.

The battle pass for the second season will once again feature 100 tiers of both free and premium items. In terms of usual first-person shooter battle passes, Battlefield 2042 has some incredibly unique unlockables. The trailer shows off a grenade. The fact that someone can just have that first and start using it before players know how to defend against it is crazy.

You can see the trailer for yourself below, there are a lot of goodies to show off, it seems.

While we saw new Battlefield 2042 specialist Charlie Crawford in the gameplay trailer and got a peek at his Mounted Vulcan specialist gadget, the trailer gives more details. For instance, Charlie Crawford will be one of the free items available and can be found early on in the battle pass as the tier four reward.

Did Megan Thee Stallion Just Confirm an Appearance in She-Hulk?

1 year 7 months ago

Earlier today, a brand new interview from The Cut with Megan Thee Stallion may have revealed some new information about the musician’s involvement with She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. According to interviewer Ashley C. Ford, Megan mentioned that she will be appearing in an episode of the show later this season, which ends on Oct. 13.

This is quite a surprising development as there has been no official word from Marvel Studios or Disney yet on the musician’s involvement in the show. It’s likely we won’t know anything until Megan appears in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law.

While it’s surprising that she would just come right out and mention this potential role in an interview, it’s not all that surprising to see celebrities in the MCU. From Tom Morello and Elon Musk in the first few Iron Man movies to Matt Damon and Luke Hemsworth in the more recent Thor films, celebrity cameos are an established part of the universe.

However, the fact that the words are coming directly from Megan herself makes them much more believable than someone reporting insider information. Still, we’ll just have to wait for official confirmation from Marvel Studios or see her appear in the show before we can confirm her involvement.

You can check out the first two episodes of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law streaming on Disney+ right now. The last one formally reintroduced Emil Blonsky/Abomination to the MCU. There are currently seven episodes left to go and new ones are added to the streaming service every Thursday.

'All-New Mafia Game' Confirmed to be in Development

1 year 7 months ago

After months of rumors, Hangar 13 confirmed today that a brand-new Mafia game is under development, though it remains to be seen whether it will be titled Mafia 4.

The news came from a Mafia 20th anniversary interview with Hangar 13 General Manager Roman Hladík and Head of Production and Media Director Tomáš Hřebíček. They pair took the time to look back on the franchise's journey over the past 20 years before Hladík got to the news.

"I'm happy to confirm we've started work on an all-new Mafia project!" Hladík said. "While it's a few years away and we can't share anything more right now, we're really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories."

As the name implies, Mafia is basically an open-world version of The Godfather, featuring a story that stretches from the 1930s to the 1960s. Hangar 13 remade the original Mafia in 2020, which we praised for featuring "excellent performances from its new cast, a fantastic driving model, and a beautiful and authentic city oozing with 1930s atmosphere."

A hypothetical Mafia 4 has been rumored for some time now. It's unclear where or when it will be set, but based on the story progression, a Scarface-like 1980s setting wouldn't be out of the question.

Either way, it'll be a while before we see this new Mafia project, whatever it turns out to be.

When is Valorant Champions and How to Watch

1 year 7 months ago

The best of the best have proved themselves throughout 2022 and set the stage for Valorant’s biggest international competition to date, Valorant Champions. With a live crowd confirmed for the entire playoff stage and the title of the best in the world up for grabs, the stakes are higher than ever. In this article, we’ll answer when Valorant Champions is going to take place and how to watch it.

When Does Valorant Champions Take Place?

Throughout the first half of August, the teams that performed well enough in their regions but fell short of automatic qualification were entered into one of five Last Chance Qualifier gauntlets, featuring other top domestic talent.

When the dust had settled, 100 Thieves, Team Liquid, KRÜ Esports, FURIA, BOOM Esports, and EDward Gaming had emerged victorious, and joined the 10 teams that had been confirmed for Champions via circuit point placing in their respective regions.

The event will start on Wednesday, Aug. 31, in the Volkswagen Arena in Istanbul, Turkey with the group stage matches.

Valorant Champions Format Explained

Unlike the past two international events, all teams at Champions will have to battle their way through the group stage to reach the playoffs. From each group of four teams, only two will advance to the eight-team playoff stage. Two wins against the best from around the world are required in order to advance.

All matches will be best-of-three matches except the lower bracket final and grand final. Those two series will be best-of-five.

The teams that have been slotted into each group are:

Was Mysaria Really Pregnant in House of the Dragon?

1 year 7 months ago

Political intrigue is ramping up in House of the Dragon, now that King Viserys’ wife is dead, and the major players are revealing themselves and their intentions for the Iron Throne. Even Daemon Targaryen is causing trouble by seizing Dragonstone, declaring a marriage to Mysaria, and stealing a dragon egg for his unborn child. Is it a sneaky ploy or was Mysaria really pregnant in House of the Dragon?

Warning: The following article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon season 1, episode 2.

Was Mysaria Really Pregnant in House of the Dragon?

No, Mysaria wasn’t really pregnant in House of the Dragon, as it was just a lie Daemon told to justify his act of stealing a dragon egg. Considering Mysaria’s reaction to the news of her supposed pregnancy and wedding, she wasn’t clued in on Daemon’s shenanigans, either.

It’s unlikely to ever come true because, according to Mysaria, “I ensured long ago that I would never be threatened by childbirth,” which strongly suggests she is incapable of having children. Daemon wasn’t aware of that fact, nor does he seem to care, but he’s now placed a bullseye on Mysaria’s back.

Compared to the book, Fire & Blood, the events unfold very differently. Daemon leaves for Runestone, sends a very pregnant Mysaria away, but she loses the child in a storm while sailing back to Lys. It’s that unfortunate event that creates a schism between Daemon and Viserys.

Does Alicent Hightower Marry the King in House of the Dragon?

1 year 7 months ago

In House of the Dragon, just like it was in Game of Thrones, kings need queens, and to go without weakens one’s hold on the Iron Throne. In season 1, episode 2, we see King Viserys struggle with this decision, to move on from his deceased wife and find a new queen. Among several possibilities, does Alicent Hightower marry the king in House of the Dragon.

Warning: The following article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon season 1, episode 1 and episode 2.

Does Alicent Hightower Marry the King in House of the Dragon?

Yes, Alicent Hightower is set to marry the King in House of the Dragon, a major plot point that the show has been subtly hinting at since the premiere episode.

With King Viserys’ wife dead, the Small Council has been urging the King to remarry in order to strengthen his hold on the Iron Throne. Corlys Velaryon offers his daughter’s hand in marriage to bring together the last two remaining houses from Old Valyria, which everyone agrees is the best option, exception Otto Hightower.

Otto Hightower expresses how unfortunate the king’s position is, to marry out of duty after just laying his wife to rest, but reading between the lines Otto is covertly suggesting marriage out of affection rather than duty. Alicent has been visiting Viserys’ chambers over the past six months, at Otto’s request, so it’s only natural for the king to choose her.

Kickstarter Launches for Armed Fantasia & Penny Blood By Wild Arms & Shadow Hearts Creators

1 year 7 months ago

Following the announcement made last week, the joint Kickstarter campaign for the JRPGs Armed Fantasia and Penny Blood has been launched.

The campaign is available here and aims to gather at least $750,000 in pledges from backers.

You can pledge approximately $42 for both games in digital versions or $80 for both. Physical versions are also available alongside several additional pledge options. Proceeds will support the development of both games.

Stretch goals will be reached separately, but also jointly, meaning that pledges for each game will contribute to reaching its own stretch goals but also a “combo” stretch goal that will benefit both.

Armed fantasy is a “western punk” JRPG developed by Wild Bunch Production. At the helm will be Wild Arms creator Akifumi Kaneko, alongside Wild Arms 5 and XF character designer Tomomi Sasaki, and composers Michiko Naruke (who created the music for Wild Arms) and Noriyasu Agematsu.

Penny Blood is a noir JRPG set in the 1920s developed by Yukikaze and Studio Wildrose. Shadow Hearts creator Matsuzo Machida, character designer Miyako Kato, and composer Yoshitaka Hirota will also return together.

If the console stretch goal is reached (for the moment the amount has not been announced but it could be the $1,000,000 joint goal if the hint is any indication), the games will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a tentative Nintendo option if the house of Mario and Zelda releases new hardware in the meanwhile.

Hanger 13 Announces New Mafia Game Is in the Works

1 year 7 months ago

Developer Hangar 13, which was formed out of the previous 2K Czech to handle both Mafia III and the definitive edition of the first Mafia game, has announced they have started work on a new Mafia game during an in-house interview.

There’s not too much information given, but it at least does guarantee we will be getting a new game in the Mafia series at one point in the future.

The reveal comes from General Manager Roman Hladík at the end of the interview, who says:

I’m happy to confirm we’ve started work on an all-new Mafia project! While it’s a few years away and we can’t share anything more right now, we’re really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories.

Considering there was a six-year gap between Mafia II and Mafia III (of which we have already surpassed for Mafia III) sizeable gaps in releases are nothing new for this series. There’s still plenty of demand for the series, and this interview/reveal is going to build hype even if it is 2024 until we actually see anything on this Mafia IV or whatever it turns out to be.

As usual, we will absolutely keep you in the loop as we know more. Though, going by the above quote, it may be a good while until there is more news to share. Rest assured, when we know something further, you will as well.

Genshin Impact’s New Region Is A Marvel Of Open-World Design

1 year 7 months ago

When Genshin Impact’s annual update finally arrived last week, I was expecting minor tweaks to its open world formula. Instead, the Sumeru region feels like an entirely different game. As I zipped around the forest canopy in every direction, I started to forget about the main quest and my daily farming routine.…

Colossal Cave Adventure Preview: Digging Into the Wreck

1 year 7 months ago

When Colossal Cave Adventure was first circulating among computer enthusiasts in the '70s, I wasn’t even born yet. I’ve never had the pleasure of experiencing the original spelunking adventure, but I’ve certainly enjoyed the fruits of its success. Colossal Cave’s legacy has spawned not just more text-based adventures like the ones legendary genre pioneer Roberta Williams was inspired to create as a part of Sierra Online, but it’s also one of the progenitors of everything we play today that remotely touches the adventure genre. Even Elden Ring might not exist without Colossal Cave.

So what does it mean to remake Colossal Cave in 2022? Text-based adventures have largely fallen by the wayside, so Roberta Williams and her husband Ken Williams are tackling the adventure most notably by visualizing it for the first time. I’ve now had the chance to play the earliest snippet of Colossal Cave Adventure at both GDC and now at Gamescom, with two hands-on previews in VR on the Meta Quest 2 and one hands-off preview on the Nintendo Switch, for which it was just announced.
