Tokyo Game Show 2022 Main Visual & 465 Exhibitors Revealed: Microsoft, Square Enix, Sega, Bandai Namco & More

1 year 9 months ago

Today the Japanese Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association has revealed the main visual and a list of exhibitors for Tokyo Game Show 2022.

The event, which will take place both online and at the traditional Makuhari Messe venue in Chiba, near Tokyo, will open its gates to the public for the first time in three years. It’ll begin on September 15 and it’ll end on September 18.

The main visual has been created once again by illustrator Kukka, and it expresses this year’s theme “Nothing Stops Gaming.”

Below you can read a comment by the artist directly from the press release.

“I tried to use pop and bright colors to create a fresh, vibrant feel.
Communicating and connecting with people over games have become part of our life. I had an idea to express this feeling in my work, but it wasn’t easy to show these connections in illustration. It was fun playing with the motifs of putting on makeup, which I was inspired by in-game character creation.”

The CESA also released a list of 465 exhibitors confirmed as of today (July 6), including 299 from Japan and 166 from overseas.

You can find the list below, including Sony, Microsoft, Square Enix, Sega/Atlus, Bandai Namco, Koei Tecmo, Konami, THQ Nordic, Aniplex, D3 Publisher, Inti Creates, HoYoverse, and many more.

It’s worth mentioning that some exhibitors like Sony, Microsoft, and HoYoverse will be present only within the online part of the event, so they won’t have physical booths.

Sony is also listed in the Indie Game Area, which appears to indicate that its presence will be limited to its usual support of Indie-related events.

1 year 9 months ago

Saints Row announced on their official Twitter account that the main character, referred to as The Boss, will feature eight different voices to choose from. Of these eight voices, four of them will be more masculine in tone while the other four are more feminine-sounding. Each voice-over was provided by a different actor, making for a selection of distinct voices.

The voices showcased in the new Saints Row trailer include a British female voice and a Western male voice, among others. The trailer also focused on the voice-over provided by Antony Del Rio, known for his work in Metal Gear Solid V, Injustice, and Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Apex Legends Summer Sundown Event: Challenges, Rewards, And New Legendary Skin

1 year 9 months ago

Just after the Awakening Collection Event came to a close, Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment launched a surprise event called the Summer Sundown Flash Event. While Arenas-based Flash Events are a regular occurrence in Apex Legends, this is the first Flash Event to hit the game's original battle royale mode.

In addition to daily challenges and free rewards, the event has also given the in-game store a colorful makeover, with several new cosmetics and item bundles (including the exclusive Fluorescent Tech Legendary skin for Valkyrie). The Summer Sundown event runs until June 12, so players only have a week to complete challenges, obtain rewards, and purchase any premium skins they wish to own. Here's everything you need to know about Apex Legends' Summer Sundown Flash Event.

Challenges

Similar to previous Flash Events, the Summer Sundown event has a series of five challenges that refresh each day. So far, only battle royale mode challenges are visible. As with previous events, daily challenges have a second set of challenges that appear once you've completed the first set. For instance, once you complete the challenge requiring you to play two matches, it will then be updated to give you the option to gain more event XP by playing five matches. The first set of challenges (and their corresponding XP rewards) are as follows:

Battlefield 2042 1.1 Patch Adds New XP Events And Balance Changes

1 year 9 months ago

Battlefield 2042’s 1.1 update, Season 1’s first major patch, offers a dizzying number of minor fixes, weapon reworks, and vehicle changes. It will release across all platforms on July 6.

The update expands XP events, granting XP for pilot kills, disarming mines, and repairing vehicles which go on to kill an enemy. Major balance changes include a reduction in power for the MV38-Condor’s 50mm Cannon, reworking the DMR to increase long-range combat usage, and increasing headshot damage in long range engagements. Battlefield Portal also received new additions such as new presets Air Superiority and Ground Superiority, new character voices, and the A-10 Warthog and SU-25TM Frogfoot as new vehicles in the Battlefield 3 mode.

The game’s first season, similar to Battlefield 2042’s initial launch, suffered from persistence errors. EA also denied rumors that only a skeleton crew was working on the game, and confirmed that no one at DICE was working on a Mirror’s Edge sequel or reboot. The next major update for Battlefield 2042 will release in August, with more details to come.

The full update notes are listed below.

Apex Legends Update Finally Fixes Xbox Input Lag

1 year 9 months ago

Two weeks after Apex Legends received an update that broke the game for next-gen Xbox players, Respawn has released an update that remedies the input lag issue that first appeared after the Awakening Collection Event went live with the 13.1 patch.

Xbox users gained access to the 13.1 patch two hours later than players on other platforms. When the update finally went live, players immediately began reporting issues on Xbox--namely input delay that made the game impossible to play. A previous attempt to address the bugs was made last week, but it appeared to cause more problems than it solved.

Upcoming Xbox Release Of Action Figure Shooter Hypercharge Garners Hype And Harassment

1 year 9 months ago

An upcoming Xbox version of the action figure shooter Hypercharge Unboxed is bringing the game back into the spotlight, but fans angry about the lack of a release date also provoked a statement from the developer.

Hypercharge Unboxed released on Steam in 2020, and is also available on Switch, but is currently ramping up for a major update and an Xbox release. As part of that ramping up, the official Twitter account has been posting footage of the game alongside calls to sign up for the game’s newsletter. Clips of Hypercharge, showing GI Joe-esque action figures bursting out of packaging and then combating other toys in a toy store, have repeatedly gone viral. That kind of attention can come with a dark side. The developers have reportedly come under harassment for not specifying a release date.

In response, the Hypercharge team, Digital Cybercherries, released a statement on the game’s official Twitter account, condemning the harassment and emphasizing that developers are human beings. The statement says that the game is made by five developers and that the statement’s writer, Joe, is “the entire marketing department for Hypercharge.” Joe assured that the game will release on Xbox, that there is no release date because the team doesn’t have one yet, and that an ETA will come when the team is “comfortable with where we are in development and marketing.”

Diablo Immortal Raked In Nearly $50 Million In Its First Month

1 year 9 months ago

Despite loud criticism of its in-game microtransactions, Diablo Immortal has reportedly earned developer Blizzard nearly $50 million in the first month since the free-to-play mobile game's release.

The new sales data comes from MobileGamer.biz using information pulled from Appmagic, which tracks mobile game earnings. MobileGamer.biz notes that the $48.9 million earned by Blizzard is after Apple and Google have taken their 30% cut from sales made on the App Store or Google Play, which means overall spending for Diablo Immortal is even higher than $50 million.

MobileGamer.biz's report suggests Diablo Immortal spending peaked 10 days after launch on June 11, when Blizzard earned $2.4 million in a single day. In its first week, Blizzard earned nearly $12 million from Diablo Immortal. In fact, there wasn't a single day in the game's first month of availability that in-game spending dipped below $1 million. More than 10 million players have downloaded Diablo Immortal so far, with most of those downloads coming within the first week.

It's important to note that Diablo Immortal is not yet available worldwide. Its release in certain parts of Asia was delayed to July 7, and it has been delayed indefinitely in China, which is likely to be the mobile RPG's biggest market. While the game is available in most of Europe, it is banned in the Netherlands and Belgium thanks to local laws regulating gambling and loot boxes.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy Rereleases On Mobile Devices With Improved Audio And Visuals

1 year 9 months ago

A new version of the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is now available on mobile. While the original Phoenix Wright games have already been on mobile devices, this re-release puts the mobile versions on-par with the vastly improved PC and console versions released in 2019.

Those enhancements include improved image and audio quality, plus other quality-of-life improvements. You'll have access to an expanded ten save slots, and there are more language options, including English, Japanese, French, German, Korean, Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.

The trilogy includes Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Phoenix Wright: Justice For All, and Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations. Those three are the original Phoenix Wright games released on Nintendo DS that introduced western audiences to the series. The previous mobile releases were discontinued in June in preparation for this re-release. The new and improved version of the trilogy can now be purchased for $25.

Like all the Phoenix Wright games, these games have you solve mysteries while defending hapless clients falsely accused of crimes. It was followed by several several sequels and spin-offs, including games following Phoenix's protoge Apollo Justice, another starring the prosecutor Miles Edgeworth, a prequel duology set 100 years before Wright's time, and even a crossover with fellow puzzle series Professor Layton. Few of these have been released for mobile devices.

Apex Legends Mobile Demolition Crew Arsenal Drop Guide

1 year 9 months ago

Apex Legends Mobile's latest Arsenal Drop is now available in the portable battle royale's in-game store. The Demolition Crew Arsenal Drop features a collection of 20 cosmetic items, from stat trackers to Legendary skins. The cosmetics are unlocked at random, and each reward has a different probability of being unlocked.

But Arsenal Drops are far from simple, often utilizing complicated purchase methods that can be a little confusing (and involve a lot of math). Keep reading for a detailed breakdown of the Demolition Crew Arsenal Drop--including exactly how much cash you'll need to shell out to snag all 20 cosmetics.

Getting started

When you open the Apex Legends Mobile App, a splash screen advertising the Demolition Crew Arsenal Drop will appear. Select "Go!" to be taken directly to the event screen. If you've already closed the window, however, you can find the new Arsenal Drop by selecting the store tab on the main lobby screen, then navigating to the Emporium page, where you will find a link to the event. With patience, you can also find the event page by waiting for the event's banner ad to appear on the right side of the lobby.

Loot box prices

The Demolition Crew Arsenal Drop does not allow cosmetics to be directly purchased. Instead, players can pay to open a loot box with Syndicate Gold. Once payment is made, one of the event's 20 cosmetic items will be randomly unlocked. There are no duplicate items, so once you unlock a prize, it is removed from the loot pool.

All Thor: Love and Thunder Post-Credits Scenes Explained (Spoilers)

1 year 9 months ago

When a new Marvel film drops, not only can audiences generally expect a good time, but they also know to stay during the credits to get either a sneak peek at upcoming developments or extra scenes that flesh out the adventure that just passed on the big screen. With Thor: Love and Thunder next in line, it is no exception to this rule in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, if you’re wondering about all the post-credits scenes in Thor: Love and Thunder, read on with caution.

Obviously, we are venturing into spoilers territory when it comes to both the film and its potential impact on future MCU entries. If you would like to enjoy the show without knowing what comes after, this is the time to turn back.

Thor: Love and Thunder Post-Credits Scenes Explained

The events of Thor: Love and Thunder see Thor, Mighty Thor, King Valkyrie, and Korg putting together a plan in order to save the children of Asgard from being butchered by Gorr, the central villain in the film. For the plan to work, it will require an army of Gods, but unfortunately, Zeus, the King of Gods, is not exactly open to the idea. Having attacked Korg, Thor retaliates and seemingly kills Zeus.

Pokémon Go Fest returns in-person after three years

1 year 9 months ago

After a three-year hiatus due to Covid, Pokémon Go's in-person Go Fests have properly returned. The first of three music festival-sized city gatherings took place this weekend in Berlin and went off smoothly, with the usual mix of rare creatures, boosted Shiny chances and early access to new species.

As ever, it was the feeling of playing Pokémon Go among thousands of others that made the event something special. Along the many pretty paths circling Berlin's beautiful Britzer Garden, thousands of Pokémon players plodded along in groups, with friends or in couples, celebrating rare catches or looking on in envy.

I wasn't certain about Berlin as a choice for Go Fest, after the smaller German city of Dortmund hosted the game's main European events in previous years so successfully. Not only did Dortmund have a great city park to play in, but its main centre was small enough that when Pokémon Go players turned up, they absolutely took over - fans flooding its small squares and filling restaurant terraces. It created a carnival atmosphere, and seeing the expressions of bemused locals as dozens of people passed by in Pikachu onesies never got old.

How to Cure Bloodblight in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak

1 year 9 months ago

A brand new DLC for Monster Hunter Rise called Sunbreak has finally dropped, introducing new monsters, weapons, quests, and more. There’s even a new status effect called Bloodblight, which is inflicted by monster Malzeno when it strikes you. If you’re wondering how to cure Bloodblight in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, then here’s what you need to know.

How to Cure Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Bloodblight

Bloodblight comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. If a hunter is under the effect of Bloodblight, it will decrease the hunter’s natural health recovery, slowly sap their health, and lower the amount of health recovered by items. However, the Bloodblight illness will also give you a lifestealing effect, recovering health with each attack proportional to the amount of damage you deal.

To cure Bloodblight in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, you will need to kill Malzeno. This is the only way to get rid of the effect, but it won’t be easy. When battling with Malzeno, try to dodge direct hits against you, as Bloodblight will be applied again and will start to pile up.

When under the effect of Bloodblight, your healing potions won’t be of any help and the only way you can avoid death is by attacking Malzeno to steal its lifeblood, as it will recover some of your health based on the damage you do. Try to learn Malzeno attack patterns and only attack when there’s an opening.

If you take too many hits, you will die from the Bloodblight as it will keep stacking up, ultimately draining your health to zero. Also, keep an eye out for how much blood you give to Malzeno. If Malzeno steals enough blood, it will undergo a transformation. There are two forms, with the final form being the most challenging to fight.

Dragon Ball May Be Coming to Fortnite, According to Datamined Game Files

1 year 9 months ago

It looks like Dragon Ball is finally making its way to Fortnite, if leaks coming from datamined game files are anything to go by.

The news comes from popular dataminer HYPEX, who has noticed a brand-new cel-shaded Creative prop called the ‘Stamina Container.’ The logo on the container is essentially the exact same as the ‘Capsule Corp’ logo from the Dragon Ball franchise. It also has the same cel-shaded anime outline as other anime cosmetics that entered the Fortnite universe from series like Naruto.

At the time of writing, there’s no word on exactly when the Dragon Ball collaboration will arrive in-game, or even to what extent the two franchises will collide, if at all. There’s always the possibility this is just a major coincidence, but all the signs do suggest one of the most-wanted collaborations is finally happening in Fortnite.

Fortnite 21.20 Update Unvaults Port-a-Fort, Adds Indiana Jones Quests & Charge SMG

1 year 9 months ago

Epic Games is currently in the process of rolling out the Fortnite 21.20 update on all platforms, which is set to add unvault the Port-a-Fort, adds Indiana Jones quests, and a new Charge SMG weapon. It also includes some cosmetic items related to Chapter 1, further fueling speculation that there could be a return to the original map on the cards in the near future.

The news comes from a combination of dataminers on Twitter such as Guille_GAG, iFireMonkey, ShiinaBR and HYPEX, as well as from the official Fortnite blog post for the update itself.

A new weapon looks set to be arriving in the form of the Charge SMG, a weapon that has to be charged up by holding down the trigger, before releasing it and unleashing a burst of fire at your opponent. The weapon can be found on the ground, in Chests, Supply Drops, Reality Saplings and sharks. With its release, the Combat SMG has been vaulted.

Sounds like Marvel's Avengers is getting She-Hulk

It sounds a lot like Marvel's Avengers will get She-Hulk as a playable character.

The detail was dropped rather unexpectedly last night, as part of an official Xbox Twitch livestream for the game featuring streamer Frank "Techniq" Ellerbe and Marvel's Avengers lead designer Brian Waggoner.

In an off-the-cuff comment, Ellerbe claimed his acting coach was actually the voice of She-Hulk in the game, to the obvious surprise of Waggoner - who stated that the character had not yet been officially confirmed.

Rockstar canned Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto 4 remasters after GTA trilogy backlash

1 year 9 months ago

Rockstar Games had plans to release a remaster of both Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto 4, a new report has claimed.

However, in light of the pretty poor reception following its GTA trilogy release last year (yes, I am being generous here), the company has now apparently put these ideas to one side.

Sources with knowledge of Rockstar's inner workings have now confirmed to Kotaku that recent rumours to this effect were indeed true, and we were meant to be getting a shiny new upgrade for both games. Last year's release of the GTA trilogy came as a real blow to Rockstar, however, and now the company is hoping to put all of that bad press behind it.

JiuShark’s tower-style SSD cooler looks silly, but heralds some toasty PCIe 5.0 drives

1 year 9 months ago

This week, far too much of my brainspace has been occupied by the JiuShark M.2-Three: a tower-style cooler for NVMe SSDs that’s just launched in China. Honestly, look at it. For days I’ve been absorbing these images of a baby CPU air cooler, yoked to the dinkiest of PC storage, and I still can’t decide if it’s brilliant or just sheer crawling madness.

Except, in the not-so-distant future, there’s a chance that active SSD cooling won’t seem so excessive at all. That’s because PCIe 5.0 drives are coming and, while they’re set to outpace even the best SSDs that use the current-gen PCIe 4.0 interface, it sounds like such speed will come at the cost of higher temperatures. And, in turn, a higher risk of throttling.

After a month-long wait, players can finally get their hands on all the Indiana Jones cosmetics by completing specific quests. Six Reasons To Be Excited For Live A Live, A Modern SNES RPG

1 year 9 months ago

Nearly 30 years after its initial release, Live a Live is finally coming west. This 1994 Super Famicom RPG is from creator Takashi Tokita, one of the key developers behind Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV. While it would be fascinating to play through Tokita's original vision of Live a Live, we're getting an enhanced remake using the same HD-2D graphical style from the Octopath Traveler games.

I recently spent roughly five hours in this ambitiously designed title, and can confidently say I enjoyed almost every second of its unique approach to storytelling and how it's brought to life through beautiful retro visuals. Square Enix is releasing Live a Live on Switch on July 22. Here are a handful reasons why you should put it on your radar:

God of War Ragnarok Officially Gets November Release Date

1 year 9 months ago

God of War Ragnarok is officially launching on November 9 for PS4 and PS5.

Following rumors about a delay into 2023, and reassurances from the developers, the sequel to 2018's God of War reboot is indeed set to arrive this year.

The news was accompanied by a short new CG trailer, titled Father and Son, which shows off Kratos and Atreus fighting off multiple threats – including an absolutely enormous wolf. Incidentally, that wolf might well be Fenrir, who in Norse mythology is the son of Loki. If you've played the last game in the series, that's a... complicated idea.

Check that out below:

Sony also announced that pre-orders will open on July 15, and showed off four separate editions of the game – including one with a full replica of Thor's Mjolnir.

After being announced for a 2021 release, the return of Kratos and Atreus was eventually delayed into 2022 (apparently because of surgery undergone by lead voice actor Christopher Judge).Previous reports, including IGN's own sources, said the game was originally set to launch in September, but was pushed back to November.

CD Projekt Red Announces Gwent: Rogue Mage, a Single-Player Deckbuilding Roguelike - Exclusive

1 year 9 months ago

IGN can reveal that The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red will release Gwent: Rogue Mage - a single-player deckbuilding roguelike - tomorrow, July 7, for PC, iOS, and Android.

Previously known as Project Golden Nekker, Rogue Mage is branded as a Gwent expansion, and retains the card game's core mechanics, but will be sold separately from the multiplayer original. The standard version will be available for $9.99, while a premium edition – which comes with in-game skins, cosmetics, and card packs for the multiplayer game – will cost $19.99.

"Rogue Mage came out of us noticing that years after The Witcher 3's release, there are a significant number of players who want a more PvE experience from Gwent," said game director Vladimir Tortsov.

"While Gwent multiplayer is a fantastic game for those who are looking for a great PvP multiplayer experience, we perfectly understand that many Witcher players loved the original mini-game of Gwent for totally different reasons. With Rogue Mage we aim to give this audience a reason to play modern-day Gwent in the format they prefer."

She-Hulk in Marvel's Avengers: Streamer Accidentally Leaks New Character While the Dev Watches

1 year 9 months ago

A streamer has leaked that She-Hulk is officially coming to Marvel's Avengers – while live on Xbox's Twitch channel with a Crystal Dynamics developer.

TechniqTV was guest streaming on the channel with Avengers' lead designer Brian Waggoner for less than an hour before he let slip that She-Hulk was coming to the game, with the clip later being shared by Miller on Twitter (below).

Despite there being no official word the character was coming to Avengers, Techniq asked if fans wanted a fun fact about She-Hulk. "I don't know if I can say this. I think it was public knowledge," he said. "I'll just say this. I don't like the face that Brian is making."

He went on to explain that his own acting coach is the voice of She-Hulk, though Techniq caught on neglected to mention the actresses name in case it wasn't public.

"Nope. No. We have never announced She-Hulk," Waggoner clarified as the stream grew painfully awkward. The full conversation can still be seen on Xbox's channel (at around 52 minutes) where Techniq grew sheepish and claimed he doesn't know if it's true or not. "We're working on our next hero," Waggoner added. "We haven't said who it's going to be yet."

Live A Live is an RPG about the joy of channel surfing

1 year 9 months ago

One of my great childhood milestones was learning the level-select cheat for Sonic 2. It transformed the game from a left-to-right narrative of mounting industrial peril into an album of killer vibes. No longer would I have to sweat through Chemical Plant Zone before tasting the glories of Casino Night. No longer would I have to brave all three acts of Metropolis before taking in the view from Sky Fortress. Instead, I could put together my own playlist, dive into zones as the mood took me, and grapple a little with the effects of running order on my experience of the game. Would Chemical Plant seem quite so dreadful if it wasn't the second level, a Mach-3 kick in the teeth after the Californian sunlight of Emerald Hill?

I'm currently reviewing the Switch remaster of Squaresoft classic Live A Live, which is essentially an RPG derived from a level-select cheat. The appropriate comparison isn't Sonic 2, of course, but director Takashi Tokita's later and more famous Chrono Trigger. Like Chrono, Live A Live sends you tunnelling through time, from cartoon prehistory through imperial China to a quaint far future where AI is commonplace but mobile phones are unheard of. Unlike Chrono, Live A Live doesn't give you command of a single party following a single narrative, though its characters do eventually unite by eldritch means in the game's final stretches. Rather, you dive into and out of each timeframe as you please using the same save file, living out different lives with specific gameplay quirks - an omnibus held together by a shared, easy-going battle system that mixes ATB bars with smallscale grid-based maps.
