Animal Crossing: New Horizons Will Seemingly Stop Functioning in 2061

1 year 10 months ago

If you're planning on playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons for decades longer, just be aware that the game will seemingly stop functioning in 2061.

A Reddit post by user AdTrue4863 (spotted by Nintendo Life) seemingly shows that anyone who plays the game for another 39 years (or who does 39 years' worth of cheating by moving the internal clock forward) will be forced to set their Switch's clock back to keep playing.

Nintendo seemingly actually condones this form of time travel though, as the message actually tells players to restart Animal Crossing after setting a date between January 2000 and December 2060. Somewhat oddly, it therefore appears the game can't function outside of this 60 year period – it's not immediately clear why.

A new Animal Crossing game is likely on the way given the success of New Horizons though, so it's unlikely fans will need to stick to this version for that long. That being said, people are mostly playing older games this year, including Animal Crossing, so at least the option is there for those who love their islands enough to return for decades to come.

What Is Fortnite Rule 34?

1 year 10 months ago

Wondering what Fortnite Rule 34 is? Well, we have got you covered. Fortnite is a massively popular Battle Royale and a game that probably doesn’t need any introductions. The game has a sprawling community and has garnered a ton of fans via both its gameplay and out-of-the-box collaborations.

There are even some unofficial set of rules called Fortnite rules that the game’s community tries to abide by and follow. Not everyone can remember each and every Fortnite rule, so if you have forgotten or simply don’t know what is Fortnite Rule 34, then here’s a quick guide explaining the same.

Before we go on to explain what it means, you must know that Rule 34 isn’t exclusive to Fortnite, and it applies to the whole online space in general. Internet is a wild place now, but it’s almost unthinkable what sort of content one can find on it. But it wasn’t like this.

During the early years, when the internet started growing, there was a large influx of content but no means to sensor them. That’s where Rule 34 comes into play.

What Is Fortnite Rule 34?

Rule 34 states that if there exists something, there will be some kind of adult pornographic content of it somewhere on the internet. As mentioned already, this rule isn’t only for Fortnite but is simply an unsaid rule which happens to apply to Fortnite too.

Final Fantasy XIV Showcases Update 6.15 Content With New Screenshots

1 year 10 months ago

Today Square Enix released a gallery of new screenshots of its super-popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, focusing on the upcoming update 6.15.

We get to see the brand new side-story questlines “Tataru’s Grand Endeavor,” “Omega: Beyond the Rift,” and “Somehow Further Hildibrand Adventures,” which will bring back a few beloved characters who we haven’t seen in a while.

The Arkasodara Tribal Quests will bring more daily quests and rewards, including a rather cute hippo cart mount, and “Custom Deliveries: Ameliance” will give crafters new tasks to perform.

We already know that the update will go live on June 7. After that, we’ll be still waiting for 6.18, which is supposed to bring forth the much-awaited Datacenter Travel features, which will allow players to visit all of their friends within the same region, bringing an end to sever borders that have been in place pretty much forever.

While we wait for that, you can check out all the brand new screenshots below.

Here’s What The New PlayStation Plus Launch Games Lineup Looks Like In Japan

1 year 10 months ago

PlayStation Plus Lineup Classic Launch Games

The new and revamped PlayStation Plus, which includes three tiers and bundles together Plus with PlayStation Now in two of them, is now live in Japan. As such, we have our first look at the PS Plus launch lineup of games ranging from PlayStation 5 to the first PlayStation, and even PlayStation Portable too, courtesy of Gematsu.

Of course, it’s important to note that since this is the lineup of games available today in Japan, there’s the possibility this lineup could be just for Japan. The U.S. lineup, which launches on June 13, for example, could be completely different. Only time will tell. However, the Japan lineup could, at the very least, be a great indication of what’s to come.

Here’s the launch lineup of Plus games in Japan, broken up by platform

How Madden NFL 23 Improves The Series' Gameplay, Franchise Mode, And More

1 year 10 months ago

Coming off a down year that felt indicative of the stagnation that so many longtime players decry when looking at the Madden NFL series, EA Sports has a lot to prove. With this year paying tribute to the late John Madden through three special covers, EA Sports wants to deliver a product worthy of putting his face back on the main cover for the first time in more than 20 years. I spent a day in EA Orlando's offices to learn how this year's game pushes the series forward and applies lessons learned from previous years to deliver several key improvements in this year's product.

Do we actually need PS5 Pro or Xbox enhanced consoles this generation?

1 year 10 months ago

PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013 and just three years later, Sony followed it up with the release of both PlayStation 4 Pro and PlayStation VR - so what are the chances of history repeating itself for the latest console generation? We know that a new virtual reality headset is in offing, but what about a PS5 Pro, or indeed an Xbox Series equivalent? Rumours of enhanced consoles have been floating around for a while now, while a recent press event from TV manufacturer TCL suggests that 'gen 9.5' consoles will launch in 2023/2024 - so what's the likelihood of that actually happening?

There are a number of reasons to bet against the arrival of enhanced consoles - not least because we're still mired in an interminably long cross-gen transition that looks likely to extend into the third year of this generation. PS4 Pro and Xbox One X were also designed to support a new breed of ultra HD display and there's no evidence to suggest that 8K or even 4K at 120Hz stands much of a chance of justifying more powerful hardware. Perhaps more importantly though, there's the question of economics, the idea that Sony and Microsoft may not find the route to an affordable console in current conditions, while the rampant inflation, a cost of living crysis and the spectre of recession means less money in the pocket of the audience.

This Road Trip Indie Game Took Me For A Cosmically Introspective Ride

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R Johnny Joestar Trailer Debuts

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R Johnny Joestar Trailer Includes Slow Dancer

Bandai Namco introduced Johnny Joestar in the new JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R. This is actually a situation in which you're seeing both him and another supporting character, though. This is because Johnny rides Slow Dancer, his horse, in-game. So someone using the character will see Johnny, Slow Dancer, and Johnny's Stand Tusk attacking.

Johnny is the star of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run and also appears in JoJolion. He’s a jockey and paraplegic, which is why Slow Dancer features so prominently in the story and game. While this is a part of the series and features a Joestar and Stands, it isn’t a part of the same storyline as entries like Stardust Crusaders, Golden Wind, and Stone Ocean.

Granblue Fantasy Versus Update 2.80 Adds Rush, Backshift and Overdrive

Granblue Fantasy Versus Update 2.80 Adds Rush, Backshift and Overdrive

Back in December 2021, Arc System Works said people would see new gameplay systems in Granblue Fantasy Versus in Summer 2022. Now, there's an exact date for the additions. Granblue Fantasy Versus update 2.80 will appear on June 3, 2022. When it does, it will add Overdrive, Tactical Move: Backshift, and Tactical Move: Rush to the game. All three new actions rely on the Skybound Art (SBA) gauge.

There’s a video going over how each of these new battle actions work in Granblue Fantasy Versus. Folks can see the inputs and how they react with the help of Gran and Djeeta. First, Tactical Move: Rush shows up. It uses 50% of the SBA gauge and requires people to press L2 and the direction they are facing to dash forward. At the 52 second mark, the Tactical Move: Backshift shows up. It is a way to quickly dash backward. Like the Rush, it uses 50% of the SBA gauge. The inputs are similar too. You hold L2 and the direction away from the one you’re facing.

Finally, Overdrive comes up at the 1:25 mark. This is a “mega buff” that is triggered by pressing L2 and R2 when the SBA gauge is full. You can do it once. When you do that, you’ll be able to get increased attack power and your overhead attack will be faster. Your attacks will deal chip damage if blocked, but you won’t take any chip damage. Simple command cooldown will be shortened to match technical commands. You’ll also be able to immediately use your Skybound Art or Super Skybound Art.

Deus Ex Sequel Rumours Seemingly Quashed by Voice Actor

1 year 10 months ago

Deus Ex actor Elias Toufexis has denied working on a sequel to 2016's Mankind Divided after rumours circulated as a result of a misinterpreted tweet.

Toufexis posted on June 1 that he's been voicing a character "in this huge AAA game for a few years", causing speculation that he was talking about a fifth mainline Deus Ex game. Toufexis' best known role is as Adam Jensen, the protagonist of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. The latter game ended on a cliffhanger fans have been hoping will be resolved for many years.

This tied in with Embracer Group's recent comments (the new owner of the Deus Ex franchise) that it sees "great potential" in sequels, remakes, and spin-offs of Deus Ex, but Toufexis has now put these rumours to bed.

Sea of Thieves Players Are at War Over Whether to Save or Destroy an Iconic Location

1 year 10 months ago

Sea of Thieves players are once again locked in battle, but not over pirate treasure this time. Instead, two warring factions are fighting over whether to save or destroy an iconic in-game location.

The grand finale of Sea of Thieves' season six story arc lets players either work to restore Golden Sands – previously a fairly charming outpost but currently brought to ruin – or keep it desolate and see what might appear in its place.

The war started in-game, as players were tasked with taking the side of either the Hunters – who need to deliver supplies to Golden Sands – or the Reapers, who need to destroy supernatural rowboats to hamper repair efforts. On June 9, the most successful side will see their efforts made permanent.

However, as part of the event, developer Rare encouraged players to take their views to social media by posting either #SaveGoldenSands and #RuinGoldenSands. It's fair to say that things are getting interesting outside the game as well as in.

Madden NFL 23's Gameplay Changes Revealed, Including 'Fan Requests' for Franchise Mode

1 year 10 months ago

EA has revealed the gameplay changes coming to Madden NFL 23, including the addition of fan requested features in its Franchise mode.

Akin to Career Mode in FIFA or MyGM in NBA 2K, Franchise has been heavily criticised by fans in recent years but Madden NFL 23 promises a built-up and refined version which includes staff management, weekly game planning, and scouting.

New free agency tools, improved trade logic, and increased scout decision making also increase the authenticity, all packaged together with a simplified user interface intended to create a stronger understanding of how to build a strong franchise.

For those looking to launch a solo career, Face of the Franchise mode has also received some upgrades, headlined by the addition of the cornerback position for the first time. The similar upgrades to Franchise mode apply here too, such as the improved trade logic and so on.

While most core systems have been improved, Madden NFL 23 also introduces new technology called FieldSense that EA said "provides the foundation for consistent, ultra-realistic gameplay" by providing players with more control at every position on the field.

This materialises in a few ways. Defence will be more adaptive than ever before, with players able to perform mid-air knockouts, hit the pile to assist in tackles already in progress, blow up blocks, and force turnovers with stand-up tackles.

How to Watch Dragon Ball in Order

1 year 10 months ago

Over the years, the Dragon Ball series has evolved from a supernatural martial arts anime to a show about multiversal aliens battling gods with the fate of the universe on the line. Due to this progression, it makes sense that things can get a little confusing when it comes to the series’ order of operations, even when we are just dealing with the first series. Don’t worry, though, as we’ve got everything you need to know about how to watch Dragon Ball in order right here.

All Dragon Ball Episodes & Seasons in Order

Son Goku’s Boyhood Group

  1. Emperor Pilaf Saga (Ep. 1-13)
    • Movie 1: Curse of the Blood Rubies (alternate plot)
  2. Tournament Saga (Ep. 14-28)
    • Movie 2: Sleeping Princess in Devil’s Castle (extended plot)

Red Ribbon Army Group

  1. Red Ribbon Army Saga (Ep. 29-45)
    • Movie 4: The Path to Power (altered re-telling of the plot)
  2. General Blue Saga (Ep. 46-57)
  3. Commander Red Saga (Ep. 58-67)
  4. Fortuneteller Baba Saga (Ep. 68-83)

Piccolo Group

  1. Tien Shinhan Saga (Ep. 84-101)
    • Movie 3: Mystical Adventure (alternate plot)
  2. King Piccolo Saga (Ep. 102-122)
  3. Piccolo Jr. Saga (Ep. 123-153)

For the most part, Dragon Ball has a pretty straightforward watch order. The only thing that might confuse people is where the movies fall in line with everything. As you can see above, most of the films are either an alternate version of what happened within the saga it is listed under or an altered re-telling of the plot.

The Electronic Wireless Show episode 189: the best thing from a game you want in real life

1 year 10 months ago

This week on the Electronic Wireless Show podcast we clear up an initial misunderstanding but eventually get in sync and talk about the game things we'd want in real life: health packs, tetris, inventory management. By their powers combined we manage to create an absolutely nightmarish dystopian society where people live forever but cannot put more than four of the same thing in a line. It's bleak. Games should stay in games.

Matthew continues the Wolfe Carlton saga, Nate is making a crayfish into a mini-model, and I have a cold. A regular cold! No funny business. Matthew also does a very hard Cavern Of Lies this week that honestly nearly has us.

Granblue Fantasy Versus Receives New Mechanics Alongside A Big Balance Patch

1 year 10 months ago

Over two years after release, with multiple seasons of characters added, it looks like Arc System Works and Cygames aren't done with Granblue Fantasy Versus quite yet. Starting tomorrow, a new patch will be applied to the fighting game that will add balance changes to the roster, but more importantly, also add new mechanics to the game.

Patch 2.80 for Granblue Fantasy Versus is ushering in three new mechanics that will undoubtedly change the game in massive ways. First is Rush, a tactical move that dashes the character forward to quickly close the distance on the opponent and strike when they least expect it. Similarly, Backshift is a dash backward that allows for a quick escape from pressure or a dodge to use in dicey situations, like back-dashing on wakeup to foil the opposition's advance. Both are used by pressing L2 on the PlayStation controller (or corresponding mapped button) and the direction you want the dash to move in. Using either of these tactical moves consumes 50% of the Skybound Art gauge, so use them sparingly and only when needed.

Dragon Age 4 is Dragon Age Dreadwolf

1 year 10 months ago

Dragon Age 4 is Dragon Age Dreadwolf

EA and BioWare offered an update on Dragon Age 4, which is officially known as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. It also offered a first peek at the logo. The blog post announcing the title confirmed a returning character would appear as an antagonist. Finally, the announcement closed by saying additional details will come up at the end of 2022.

At The Game Awards 2018, a Dread Wolf rises teaser appeared. It offered a hint that a certain person would return. In Executive Producer Mark Darrah offered hints work was being done on Dragon Age 4 back in 2020. An additional update came at Gamescom 2020. However, it wasn't until The Game Awards 2020 that a better look at the game showed up.

Editor's Note: There will be Dragon Age Dread Wolf spoilers below that suggest elements that will appear in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

In Dragon Age, there is an elven god called the Dread Wolf Fen’Harel. In Dragon Age: Inquisition, people learn that one of players’ party members, Solas, is that person. The game ends with a fateful encounter between Solas and another important, recurring character from past installments.

Nintendo Explains Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Arts and Classes

1 year 10 months ago

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Arts

Nintendo is closing in on the late-July release date of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, but there's more to be done before the game launches. For example, teaching potential players how to use the Arts system. A new edition of Nintendo's ongoing "Xenoblade 3 Notes" blog series explains Arts to the laymen in the audience.

As in previous entries in the series, Arts are basically the techniques and special attacks used by characters in battle. Typically characters will automatically attack the targeted enemy, but Arts forms the core of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 combat. They're assigned to the face buttons by default for easy access, though using an Arts technique will trigger a cooldown time that varies depending on the technique's power and complexity.

Key's Loopers Visual Novel Debuts on Switch eShop Worldwide

People won’t need to head to a foreign Nintendo Switch eShop to get Key’s visual novel Loopers. Now that the shop update is live, it is available both inside and outside Japan. People could pick it up, with English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese localizations, immediately. It costs $24.99.

As the name suggests, Loopers is Key’s visual novel about a Groundhog Day-like time loop. Written by 07th Expansion’s Ryukishi07, who is behind the When They Cry series, it features a group of geohunting individuals who get stuck in a Temporal Spiral. Once inside, all the people reliving August 1st are Loopers attempting to break the cycle. As you go through it, you'll watch and see if people can solve the mystery and break free.

This is one of Key’s kinetic visual novels. This means you don’t make any choices as you go through it. You just read along with the story. Similar games from the company include Harmonia and Planetarian. (The latter is also available on the Switch worldwide.)

Ripout Preview: Doom 3-Style FPS Horror...With Friends

1 year 10 months ago

It’s very apparent at first sight that Ripout is absolutely in love with 80’s horror. Its retrofuture interiors and lumpy body horror should fire plenty of nostalgia neurons for fans of The Thing or Alien. But as its aesthetics are clearly in the past, the gameplay makes a valiant attempt at moving the co-op shooter into a newer, less crowded direction. Ripout chooses patient and deliberate room-sweeping over colorful and frantic bullet storms against waves of bad guys – a sort of Doom 3-esque experience, but with friends. And though I only had a small window of time to stalk its corridors, Ripout has the makings of a premier horror space shooter without notable contemporaries.

In Ripout, humanity made a bioweapon to fend off an alien invasion which backfired, creating a dangerous race of mutants that sent the human race barreling towards extinction. In the year 2084, Team Human is down bad and needs to do desperate and dangerous things to get a leg up on the enemy. Within the limits of the demo I took with the team at Pet Project Games, that meant flying out into a derelict freighter, shooting our way though fleshy bad guys to complete objectives, and getting out safely.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Title and Logo Officially Revealed

1 year 10 months ago

BioWare has been hard at work on the next chapter of the Dragon Age franchise and today the studio is ready to reveal a title. The next game in BioWare’s fantasy RPG series is called Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

Fans of the series will know the Dreadwolf is a reference to Solas. Without going into spoilers, Solas, a magical party member and potential love interest in Dragon Age: Inquisition. BioWare released an official blog that’s light on details but dives into Solas’ story a bit more.

“Solas, the Dread Wolf. Some say he might be an ancient elven god, but some say not,” the blog says. “Others say a betrayer of his people… or a savior who now seeks to rescue them at the cost of your world. His motives are inscrutable and his methods sometimes questionable, earning him a reputation as something of a trickster deity — a player of dark and dangerous games.”

BioWare says that using Solas’s namesake “no doubt suggests a spectrum of endless possibilities of where things may go. But at the core of this, like every past game, is you.”

You Probably Didn’t Realize Zach Braff Is in Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi

1 year 10 months ago

So far, Obi-Wan Kenobi has been filled to the brim with Easter Eggs, name drops, and cameos that fans of the series both old and new have loved. That includes everything from referencing Jedi like Djinn Altis and Quinlan Vos or even hearing James Earl Jones returns as the voice of everyone’s favorite Sith Lord.

Amidst all of these cameos, though, there is likely one actor that appeared in Obi-Wan Kenobi that you didn’t even realize: Zach Braff. Yes, the infamous Dr. John Michael “J.D.” Dorian, M.D himself was actually in episode 3 of the show. So who did he play?

obi-wan kenobi freck

Braff was actually responsible for providing the voice for the alien known as Freck. This Imperial fanboy plays a minor role in the episode, as he gives Obi-Wan and Leia a ride before turning them into some Storm Troopers at a checkpoint.

Thanks to the costume, no one even realized Zach Braff was responsible for voicing Freck until after the fact, as eagle-eyed fans spotted his name in the credits.
