Sega And General Mills Team Up For Sonic The Hedgehog Cereal

Ahead of next week's anticipated release of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 in theaters, Sega and General Mills have announced a partnership to bring the spikey blue hedgehog to breakfast nooks nationwide.

General Mills will be releasing two Sonic branded food products, with the obligatory breakfast cereal taking center stage. Featuring honey-flavored rings with spin dash and chaos emerald marshmallows, this cereal is going all out on representing Sega's mascot. There's also a "fun back-of-the-box activity for a speedy way to start the day." Neat!

Michael Cisneros, Senior Manager of Licensing at SEGA of America has this to say about the partnership:

“General Mills is one of the foremost brands in the food industry — especially when it comes to youth-focused products, so we’re thrilled to partner up with them. This partnership is a really fun and creative way to integrate some iconic aspects of the Sonic games into a whole new product line, and we’re excited to introduce it to Sonic fans.”

Game Theory Reveals Gaming Coffee Table

Dedicated tabletop gaming tables have been gaining steam for some time now, offering custom solutions for players who want a more nuanced solution for where to play out RPG or board game nights. Game Theory Tables is one of the recognized players in the category, thanks largely to the success of its customizable Origins table. Today, the team is launching a new crowdfunding drive for that table and a recently announced new coffee table format of a similar design, alongside a substantial discount on their standard pricing.

The original Origins table was most notable for its customizability, including a choice of wood color, playmats, cupholders, and optional accessories like USB chargers and dice-rolling towers. But its chief success lies in its recessed design, which offered a 4-inch recessed play area, which a dining top could cover, keeping in-process games in stasis while the family enjoys dinner, and allowing the game to pick back up when the group is ready to get back to the action.

The new coffee table variation of the Origins table seems to recognize that many players have switched to a more relaxed approach to game night get-togethers. The idea seems to be that the crowd is gathered in easy chairs and couches, leaning in to take a turn when the time is right, but you still want a suitable play space.

Alongside the new coffee table twist, Game Theory is also updating the original Origins table for its latest run in 2022.

The Top Gun sequel is finally just around the corner from its long, long-awaited launch. Following its deliberate delay at the big screen due to COVID-19, the new May 25 release is approaching quickly, and today there’s both a new trailer and poster to dial up the excitement.

Here’s how the plot is summarized if you’re not familiar with the sequel’s story premise:

When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster”, the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose”. Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.”

Sega of America & General Mills Celebrate Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Movie with Cereal & Fruit Snacks

Earlier today in a press release from Sega of America, it was announced that the creators of Sonic the Hedgehog will be teaming up with Minneapolis-based food producer, General Mills. The deal will see special-edition lines of fruit snacks and breakfast cereal hitting store shelves just in time for the release of the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie.

The cereal appears to have golden-colored rings that are made to look like the rings that you collect in the many Sonic the Hedgehog games. And sprinkled throughout are marshmallows that resemble Chaos Emeralds as well as a featureless front outline of Sonic’s head which Sega of America has dubbed “Spin Dash” marshmallows.

As for the fruit snacks, much less information was revealed. All we know is that they will come, “…in a variety of shapes and flavors.”

Katie Wong, head of Ideas & Partnerships for General Mills talked about these products bringing together Sonic the Hedgehog fans of all ages together:

Our goal is to create holistic brand experiences for our consumers, and we’re so excited to be able to join SEGA to extend the ways that families can engage with the beloved Sonic the Hedgehog this spring. By bringing Sonic into the cereal and fruit snacks aisles, we’re able to bring together favorites of both kids and parents, alike.

Additionally, Senior Manager of Licensing at SEGA of America, Michael Cisneros, commented on his excitement for the partnership:

General Mills is one of the foremost brands in the food industry — especially when it comes to youth-focused products, so we’re thrilled to partner up with them. This partnership is a really fun and creative way to integrate some iconic aspects of the Sonic games into a whole new product line, and we’re excited to introduce it to Sonic fans.

Eastward Is Getting a Vinyl Release & Physical Collector’s Edition for Switch, Comes With a Beautiful Tabletop Game

Developed by Pixpil and published by Chucklefish, Eastward was one of the most charming indie hits we got to play last year. The game features a really beautiful retro 2D pixel aesthetic, Zelda-like action gameplay, and a moving story about a girl who wants to know the truth about the surface world and what really happened to Earth that drove humanity to live underground.

It was definitely a success at launch, and iam8bit and Skybound are working to release a physical retail version of the game this year.

The game will be getting a Collector’s Edition for Switch, which comes with an original tabletop game and a lovely cover sheet. Here’s how the game works:

“The cooperative tabletop game has 2-4 players working together to rescue villagers and defeat enemies, racing against a sinister miasma that threatens to engulf the world — complete with a foldout game board, 15 food cards, 10 item cards, eight Miasma cards, and four unique playable character standees.”

April's Xbox Games With Gold include Hue, Another Sight, and MX vs ATV Alive

With April inching ever closer, Microsoft has hoisted its Games With Gold sack once more, upending it to reveal a fresh selection of titles being made available as part of Xbox Live Gold (and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) subscriptions next month, which this time look an awful lot like Hue, Another Sight, Outpost Kaloki X, and MX vs ATV Alive.

Hue, if you're unfamiliar, is puzzle adventure that sees players wandering a grey world and using their colour-based powers to push ever forward. Puzzles are largely built around the ability to change the background colour of the world, either causing previously invisible objects to be made visible or to colour-match obstacles so they disappear. Developer Fiddlesticks Games expands on that premise to deliver an experience that's as sweet as it is clever - and Xbox Live Gold subscribers can grab it as part of Games With Gold from 16th April to 15th May.

Playing Crusader Kings 3 on console: a bit unwieldy but it works

I'm trying to unite Ireland. It's 1066. Harold is about to get shot in the eye over in England - I know that because of history - so I've snuck in early and befriended him, and arranged for my daughter to marry one of his sons when she comes of age. Icky, I know, but when the French later decide to help my Irish neighbour in a war against me, and turn up in their thousands, I'm able to call on the English to fight them off. Step by step, I'm getting there.

This is Crusader Kings 3, and I've wanted to play Crusader Kings 3 for a long time. I've tried playing on PC before but bounced off it. Why it's taken until the console release to try again, I don't know, but here I am. And now the question is whether, on console, it works. The answer? Sort of.
