Sega of America & General Mills Celebrate Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Movie with Cereal & Fruit Snacks

2 years 1 month ago

Earlier today in a press release from Sega of America, it was announced that the creators of Sonic the Hedgehog will be teaming up with Minneapolis-based food producer, General Mills. The deal will see special-edition lines of fruit snacks and breakfast cereal hitting store shelves just in time for the release of the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie.

The cereal appears to have golden-colored rings that are made to look like the rings that you collect in the many Sonic the Hedgehog games. And sprinkled throughout are marshmallows that resemble Chaos Emeralds as well as a featureless front outline of Sonic’s head which Sega of America has dubbed “Spin Dash” marshmallows.

As for the fruit snacks, much less information was revealed. All we know is that they will come, “…in a variety of shapes and flavors.”

Katie Wong, head of Ideas & Partnerships for General Mills talked about these products bringing together Sonic the Hedgehog fans of all ages together:

Our goal is to create holistic brand experiences for our consumers, and we’re so excited to be able to join SEGA to extend the ways that families can engage with the beloved Sonic the Hedgehog this spring. By bringing Sonic into the cereal and fruit snacks aisles, we’re able to bring together favorites of both kids and parents, alike.

Additionally, Senior Manager of Licensing at SEGA of America, Michael Cisneros, commented on his excitement for the partnership:

General Mills is one of the foremost brands in the food industry — especially when it comes to youth-focused products, so we’re thrilled to partner up with them. This partnership is a really fun and creative way to integrate some iconic aspects of the Sonic games into a whole new product line, and we’re excited to introduce it to Sonic fans.

As of right now, there’s no set date for when these products will hit store shelves. The only confirmation of a time frame was Wong’s mention of this Spring. The only other hint we have is that this collaboration is based on the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie that comes out on Apr. 8.
