One Piece Odyssey RPG Announced, Features Original Story And Characters

2 years 1 month ago

Bandai Namco has announced One Piece Odyssey, a new JRPG set in the world of the long-running and popular manga series and developers by Ilca. Featuring new character and monster designs produced by One Piece author Eiichiro Oda, the game stars you as Straw Hats pirate captain Monkey D. Luffy and takes place on a mysterious island.

With the Straw Hats crew stranded and separated from each other by powerful enemies and the island's hostile wildlife, Luffy will need to embark on a new quest to reunite with his team. In addition to playing as Luffy and wielding the rubbery powers granted to him by his Devil Fruit, you'll also be able to play as Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Frankie, and Brook during the course of the game.

"I have been thinking that one of the most fascinating points of One Piece is the adventure," main producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki said in a video interview. "I thought that a JRPG project offering a One Piece adventure experience like never before would be very interesting. We asked Oda for his advice, and he designed the characters and monsters to vitalize the in-game One Piece world.

Elden Ring Player Becomes Almost Unstoppable With Mech Build

2 years 1 month ago

After a month in the wild, Elden Ring players have begun to discover creative builds for their Tarnished avatars. Take YouTuber Adam Barker for example, who uploaded a video of his almost-unstoppable warrior who can be seen annihilating other players when he invades their realms.

As spotted by Eurogamer, Barker's build uses the Ironjar Aromatic consumable to turn his character's body into steel by consuming focus points. Cerulean Hidden Tear and Crimsonwhorl Bubbletear in his mixed Physik flask cancel out the FP consumption and also convert damage into health points, while Unendurable Frenzy caps off the build by unleashing devastating flames of frenzy.

While the build doesn't make Barker completely unstoppable, it's still powerful enough to make him a walking nightmare for any solo player who encounters him during an invasion.

Elden Ring recently received its first major post-launch patch--rest in peace character builds focused on Moonveil Katana--and one YouTuber recently discovered how faithful steed Torrent almost had its own attack.

People Think Big PlayStation News Is Coming This Week, Here's Why

2 years 1 month ago

According to multiple independent reports, Sony might have some big PlayStation news to share this week. As of yet, nothing is confirmed, though, but here is what we've heard and seen.

"A VERY interesting week for PlayStation"

Kinda Funny's Greg Miller said he heard three rumors about PlayStation that might be revealed this week. He said, "Man, looking like it might be a VERY interesting week for PlayStation if even one of the three rumors I've heard is true." Because of the possibility of big PlayStation news, Miller said he's delaying a PlayStation-themed podcast episode until Thursday. This suggests Miller believes the news, whatever it is, might drop in the first half of this week.

Spartacus Revealed?

Sony's long-rumored new subscription service, apparently codenamed, might be revealed this week, according to a report from Bloomberg. The membership will reportedly combine PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus. Additionally, there will be multiple tiers within the service that have a variety of modern PlayStation games and older classic ones, the report said.

One Of The Best Switch Controllers Is Discounted To A Great Price

2 years 1 month ago

If you're in the market for a Nintendo Switch controller, you should definitely check out Amazon's current deal on the 8BitDo Pro 2. This excellent third-party controller normally goes for $50--which is still a reasonable price--but right now you can grab it for only $42.50. Prime members can get free overnight shipping, too. It's one of the best Switch controllers, so you can't go wrong here.

The Pro 2 also supports up to three custom profiles. You can easily switch between the stored controller schemes by pressing the profile button on the front of the controller. As a Bluetooth gamepad, the Pro 2 is compatible with other platforms as well, including PC, Mac, and Android. A switch on the back of the controller lets you cycle through four unique platform settings: Switch, Mac, D-input, and X-input.

The controller nods back to the SNES in terms of its design, and its layout is ideal for retro games that are better with a D-pad thanks to the parallel analog stick placement. That said, the Pro 2 is equally great for modern games with complex control schemes. With 8BitDo's Ultimate software, you can assign macros and adjust trigger/analog stick settings on your computer or mobile device.

Get Kirby And The Forgotten Land For Only $45 For A Limited Time

2 years 1 month ago

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is available now, and we have a deal that you should definitely check out. Use GameSpot's exclusive promo code GSKIRBY when checking out at Daily Steals to knock the price down to $45. This is the best Kirby and the Forgotten Land deal around, and it's pretty unlikely the game will be available for less than $45 for at least a few months.

It's important to note that this deal applies to the EU edition of the game, not the NA version as originally listed on Daily Steals. This just means that the content rating badge on the front of the box will be PEGI instead of ESRB. The Switch isn't region locked, so you can still play the EU region cartridge on your Switch.

Daily Steals offers free shipping with your order, with orders shipping as early as today. The promo code will work until April 9.

Fortnite Leak Reveals Lightsabers Are Returning

2 years 1 month ago

Fortnite has held Star Wars crossover events before, and it looks like this partnership is set to continue by bringing back the franchise's iconic melee weapon. A leak has revealed that lightsabers might be coming back to Fortnite in a future update.

A Fortnite dataminer has apparently discovered that Chapter 3 Season 2 will add four different lightsabers including Kylo Ren's crossguard, Luke's green lightsaber, Rey's blue energy sword, and Mace Windu's purple blade. Players will apparently be able to strike and block with the Lightsabers, just like they could when these same four lightsabers came to Fortnite before. See some footage below.

Lightsabers were initially added to Fortnite in 2019 and came back in May 2020 to celebrate Star Wars Day. With Star Wars Day 2022 coming up soon on May 4, 2022, it seems likely that lightsabers could return to Fortnite around then. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong Hands-On Preview: Det. Acula

2 years 1 month ago

Video games love the idea of being a detective. Plenty of games put you into the role of someone trying to solve a mystery, asking you to gather clues and scour scenes for evidence. Often, games have to throw in some contrivances to help you actually spot the important items laying in a scene or to follow trails of blood through an environment, and many attempts fall flat because they're either too convoluted or include too much handholding. You either feel like Scooby-Doo, still confused as Velma reveals that the ghost haunting the carnival was its greedy owner all along, or like Hercule Poirot, vastly overqualified for the minor mystery before you.

After playing vampire detective in Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong, it feels like developer Big Bad Wolf Studio has found the right balance between laying out a complex mystery before you and helping you make the Charlie Day-style string board needed to solve it.

Swansong is set in the World of Darkness, the same universe as the upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines and Bloodlines 2, but focuses on narrative and takes more of its inspiration from the tabletop RPG franchise than the action-RPG approach of Bloodlines. You'll play as three different vampires in Swansong--each is part of the hidden vampire society in Boston, all playing different roles in the story. The choices you make, characters you interact with, and successes and failures you rack up all affect how the story will shake out. The section I played took place early in the story, in which a vampire named Galeb is dispatched to investigate the murder of a specialty banker for high-end clients.

Naruto-Themed Jujutsu Kaisen OP & ED Blend Together Seamlessly

2 years 1 month ago

You’ll be hard-pressed to find two anime that are more beloved in the industry than Jujutsu and Naruto, currently. The former is the hot, up-and-coming shonen that continues to blow fans away, while the latter is always talked about as one of the greatest, most-well rounded series in the industry.

One of the big reasons for both of these shows’ successes comes down to their cast and stories, as each has an abundance of great characters with rich backstories and development. But while that is all well and good, one of the most under-appreciated facets of both Naruto and Jujutsu Kaisen can be found in their opening and ending theme songs.

Whether it’s the audio or visuals, every OP and ED these shows put out ends up being a complete banger in their own unique way. In fact, they work so well that someone actually put Naruto characters into Jujutsu Kaisen’s first opening and ending themes and it works seamlessly.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Lasso Trick Turns an NPC Into a Human Kite

2 years 1 month ago

Despite being almost four years old, players are still finding different ways to have fun in Rockstar Games’ hit western action-adventure game, Red Dead Redemption 2. Whether they’re tracking across the world in different ways or still attempting to uncover the many secrets it has to offer, it just seems like there is an endless amount to do in the game.

One neat trick that a player on the Red Dead Redemption subreddit recently found involves the game’s beloved lasso.

As you can see in the clip above, someone managed to get a civilian up onto the game’s train while it was moving. Thanks to a combination of gravity and a pull from the lasso, Arthur is then able to fly the poor NPC behind the train like his very own human kite.

The trick is pretty hilarious and just proves that there’s even more crazy fun to be had regarding Red Dead Redemption 2’s physics that has yet to be uncovered.

Interview: Preparing Echoes of Mana and Its Characters

It is a very good time to be a Mana series fan. In addition to new games appearing worldwide, older entries are getting remakes and remasters. In some cases, we’re even seeing them for the first time. The next big project? The Echoes of Mana mobile game that includes original and returning characters. To better understand how it works and what people can expect, Siliconera spoke with Producer Akira Haruta about the project.

Jenni Lada: How long has Echoes of Mana been in development, and how did the COVID-19 pandemic influence its progress?

Akira Haruta: Echoes of Mana has been in development for about 3 years. While maintaining communication was difficult at times due to the pandemic, it did not affect our development progress.

Which Mana games most influenced Echoes of Mana’s characters, combat, and stories?

Haruta: This is a title with an all-star character roster, so the characters and story are influenced by all of the games. For combat, we did reference Secret of Mana, Trials of Mana, and Legend of Mana, all of which have 2D action just like this game.

How did you decide which Mana characters should show up in Echoes of Mana at launch?

Take a Closer Look at Ash Crimson’s KOF XV Clothes and Nails

Since KOF XV launched, SNK's shared concept art for characters. In many cases, the detail covers elements of their costumes that aren't clearly visible in-game. The latest one takes a closer look at Ash Crimson's apparel and details in KOF XV. It even shows exactly how his nail polish is done for his manicure.

Here’s the exact design document. Since we only see him with his coat on in-game, it shows that he is wearing a plain black shirt underneath. His jacket’s insignia is more clearly defined. There’s also a belt comparison.

In the upper left, it shows the exact designs on each of Ash Crimson’s fingernails. It starts with the thumb on the left, then looks at the index finger, middle finger, and ring finger. It ends with a look at his pinky nail design on the far right.

Blizzard Clarifies Diablo Immortal Release Date Listed On iOS

2 years 1 month ago

Blizzard has clarified that the launch date listed for Diablo Immortal on iOS and iPadOS is only a placeholder and that an official date will be announced in the future.

The company opened iOS and iPadOS pre-orders for Diablo Immortal today, as well as pre-registration for Android users, with a listed release date of June 30. Placeholder dates are common for upcoming games, but they can often provide a bit of confusion, thus Blizzard has sought to clear things up.

"As a point of clarification for anyone who pre-registers on iOS and iPadOS, players will notice that the game is listed with a launch date of June 30," Blizzard told IGN in a statement. "We want to make it clear that June 30 is not the official launch date of Diablo Immortal, and this is just a placeholder for the time being as we lock in our final plans. We will update the community with our official launch timing at a later date."

In addition to opening pre-orders, Blizzard also shared that Diablo Immortal will feature an option for users to change their class without having to start new characters. By visiting Westmarch, players can select a new class and fresh visuals for their character without losing any of the progress made with previous classes.

Mudkip Community Day Classic is Coming to Pokemon GO in April

2 years 1 month ago

Earlier today on the official Pokemon GO website, it was announced that Community Day Classic will be returning to the game next month. Back in January, the first Community Day Classic event took place featuring Bulbasaur. This time around, the Water-type start from Hoenn, Mudkip, will be the featured Pokemon of the event.

If you played Pokemon GO back during the original Mudkip Community Day, then there’s not much in store for you. Unless you don’t have enough Swampert with Hydro Cannon. It has been a solid Pokemon for the Great League since PvP started and Hydro Cannon still makes it one of the best Water-type attackers in raids.

Plus, since this is a Community Day event, that also means the rate at which shiny Mudkip appears in the wild will be increased. So if you missed out on getting a shiny with good IVs or if you just don’t have any at all, then this is your opportunity to change that.

Like other Community Day events, there will also be a Special Research story ticket available for $1. Of course, the tasks in this story will be focused on the featured Pokemon, Mudkip, as well as its evolutions, Marshtomp and Swampert.

Also available in the Shop will be a free box with 30 Ultra Balls inside and a paid box (850 PokeCoins) containing 15 Ultra Balls, 15 Pinap Berries, one Elite Fast TM, and one Remote Raid Pass.

Finally, the bonuses for the Mudkip Community Day Classic event can be found listed below:

  • 3x Catch XP
  • Incense duration increased to three hours
  • Lure duration increased to three hours
  • Mudkip will photobomb snapshots

You can check out Mudkip Community Day Classic in Pokemon GO when the event goes live on Sunday, April 10 at 2 PM local time. But it’s important to keep in mind that the event is only three hours long. However, any Marshtomp evolved into Swampert during the event and up to two hours after it ends will learn Hydro Cannon.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Preview - Getting in the Spirit

2 years 1 month ago

The individual trappings, characters, and references to crossing the streams carry lots of nostalgia weight in the Ghostbusters franchise, especially among those who, like me, fell in love with the first film in their youth. But if you’re really trying to make something distinctively Ghostbusters, what you really need is a healthy dash of absolute nonsense. It’s the energy that birthed the monstrosity of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in the first place, and the comedic timing that makes lines like “When someone asks if you’re a God…” really sing. Put simply, Ghostbusters needs to be a little stupid in a good way. And in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, I suspect Illfonic may have nailed the exact flavor of good stupidity I was looking for from a four-person cooperative Ghostbusters game.

I’ll get to the goofiness in a bit, though, because like all good comedy, Spirits Unleashed’s ghost fights need some structure. In my hands-on session, I’m dropped into a map called The Museum alongside two developers playing cooperatively with me, and a third AI player that, were our voice comms not a thing, would have blended right into our group of human players without me noticing. We’re trying to capture a ghost controlled by another Illfonic developer, whose job it is to escape our capture and thoroughly haunt the museum before we can stop it. I’m armed appropriately with a proton pack and a PKE meter I can swap between, as well as a ghost trap I can toss on the ground for ghost capturing - though if I don’t remember to pick it up when I’m done, I won’t have it at my disposal for the next ghost encounter.
