Chorus Review

2 years 5 months ago

I love a good space shooter, but my biggest pet peeve when playing them is endlessly circling an enemy as you try to line up a shot, chasing that target indicator at the edge of the screen until someone messes up. A few smart games have solved that issue one way or another, and Chorus’ is among the most direct: push a button and you’re instantly teleported behind your target, ready to blast them to bits. Described that way it sounds like a cakewalk, but Chorus definitely isn’t; when the pressure ramps up, even that trick and a few other god mode-like abilities might not save you. But one thing’s for sure: you’ll look pretty cool pulling them off, and the story that accompanies that action is respectable even though it threatens to drown you in lore.

When you boil it down, your character Nara is basically “what if Darth Vader defected after the destruction of Aldaraan?” She’s certainly well written and acted, coming off as genuine rather than whiny as she’s dragged into the resistance, but it does become a bit tiresome to hear a repentant war criminal wallow in guilt for the entirety of her roughly 30-hour fight to take down the space-cult leader who ordered her to commit atrocities. There is a clever touch to her delivery in that we get to listen in on her inner monologue during conversations, whispered in a voice we can hear but the people she’s talking to can’t.

Fortnite's island-flipping finale gives glimpse at new Chapter 3 map

2 years 5 months ago

Fortnite has pulled off its latest live event - typically spectacular in scope, technically ambitious in scale, and hugely important to the game's ongoing story. Tonight's The End event closed the book on its Chapter 2 map forever - and gave players a glimpse at what's next.

The End event began at the small fort built over the past week by Pleasant Park and, as players arrived, they were greeted by the welcome sight of the friendly Blue Cube teleporting into the location too. It was here players would make their last stand against the Cube Queen, head of the alien race which has now plagued Fortnite's reality for several seasons. Maybe, with the Blue Cube on side, she could be defeated?

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight. I, @zombiepie, am once again honored to be your host as we look back at the best community-created endeavors from the previous week. When it comes to the site, we have a bit of "housekeeping" worth addressing.

Firstly, remember that Giant Bomb premium is on sale until the end of the year.

Secondly, for those of you that have checked out the Giant Bomb Emporium, many of you have discovered that the beanies and water bottles have sold out. Mr. Rorie has placed a reorder for both, but there is no timetable on when they will become available again.

Fortnite Chapter 2 Finale Event Ends With World Changing Results and The Rock's Reveal

2 years 5 months ago

Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 8 has come to a close with “The End”, a finale Season 8 event that rocked the island to its core. The Cube Queen’s overwhelming forces dominated the players -all hope was lost. Thankfully, the island was seemingly saved by members of The Seven and The Foundation, who was revealed to be Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Fortnite’s “The End” event started out calm enough. Players had fun bouncing around while a large timer counted down, our pending doom juxtaposed by dancing Narutos. All of that changed at the 9-minute mark as Cube Monsters started bleeding into our reality. Armed with legendary weapons and mounted turrets, we easily tore through the first wave of enemies. Then the clock struck zero and all inter-dimensional hell broke loose.

The Cube Queen, seen floating above a pyramid like structure, sent up a beam of light that tore a hole in the sky. Apparently, she had conscripted the Alien armada last seen in Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 7. Waves of flying saucers descended on us as giant monsters emerged from several cubed structures. Things weren’t going well.

From here, our focus shifted underground as a cutscene depicts Dr. Slone entering a secret IO base. She and her guards had captured Jones (Jonesy?) for some nefarious purpose; it looked like they were going to either scramble his mind or download important information locked away in his skull. Before Slone could finish though, Jones is saved by The Foundation, who removes his helmet revealing himself to be The Rock.

Fortnite: 7 Lingering Questions From The Chapter 2 Finale

2 years 5 months ago

Fortnite Chapter 2 is in the books, and while we wait for Chapter 3 to begin, it's best not to jump in head-first without a grasp on everything that happened in the Fortnite Chapter 2 finale. Still, there are some things we can't quite speak to. As always, Fortnite loves a good mystery. With the Cube Queen seemingly defeated for now, but the fate of so much hanging in the balance for Chapter 3, Season 1 and beyond, here are seven lingering mysteries from the Fortnite Chapter 2 finale.

What happened to Slone?

When the Bridge was flooded just as the island was completing its end-over-end rotation, the looper (player character), The Foundation, Jonesy, and The Scientist were thrown outward into the great, big ocean. Presumably, they all survived because the looper was the least equipped to deal with the surge of water, and even they did, but what about Slone? We last saw her in another part of the Bridge. What became of that room when the entire base was washed away?

On a meta level, she's likely alive because her arc hasn't been told yet, but where does Slone go from here now that The Seven have saved the Zero Point from annihilation twice, and both times she stood in the way?

Here's What Happened In The Fortnite Chapter 2 Finale Event

2 years 5 months ago

The Fortnite Chapter 2 finale event, "The End," is now over, and if you missed it, don't worry. We've got a complete breakdown of everything that happened right here. From the Cube Queen's intent to destroy the island, to The Foundation showing up to save the day--and finally reveal the eyebrow-raising man beneath the mask--and so much more. Here's what just went down in the Fortnite story during the Chapter 2 finale.

The event began with the Cube Queen sending even more cube monsters at the loopers, who were, for a moment, shielded by the defiant blue cube of the Cube Legion. For whatever reason, this single cube, nicknamed Blevin by the fans (or Blue Kevin, as a nod to the Chapter 1 cube), did not fall in line with the others in their plan to destroy the Zero Point and instead sought to protect the loopers.

Despite a herculean effort, Blevin's forcefield was eventually destroyed, and so too was Blevin, shattered like a dropped vase by The Last Reality, whose invading forces were too numerous to count. Meanwhile, below the earth, Doctor Slone was ready to kill Agent Jones for good, on account of his "betrayal" of the Imagined Order back in Season 6. Jones was told not to call The Seven to fix the Zero Point, but finding no other choice, he did, and Slone had damned him to imprisonment sometime after that event, even as she must know somewhere deep down that if jones hadn't acted, the Zero Point would've been destroyed for good.

Infinite Warfare should have been every bit as revolutionary as Call of Duty 4

2 years 5 months ago

There's a mission early in Infinite Warfare's campaign in which you assault the moon. Most shooters would think assaulting the moon a grandiose enough premise for 30 minutes of popping virtual heads. But in Operation Port Armour, assaulting the moon is merely the start. After clearing the Lunar Gateway of SDF soldiers (which you can do by blowing out the spaceport's windows, sucking your foes out into space), you then board your Jackal fighter craft and jump into lunar orbit for an extended dogfight with SDF fighters launching from a nearby Destroyer.

But the mission doesn't end there. Once the enemy fighters are down (or up - it is space after all), you disembark your Jackal for a Zero-G assault on the Destroyer itself, floating along its hull before blasting a hole in the bridge and clearing out the remaining crew from the inside. All this is delivered in one seamless sequence, from leaving the vehicle bay of the capital ship Retribution to blowing the final SDF soldiers out of the Destroyer's airlock.

What's New In Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1: New Map, Spider-Man, And More

2 years 5 months ago

Fortnite Chapter 3 is here, and in this new era for Epic's burgeoning metaverse, you can expect the biggest changes to the game in years. Sporting improved physics on a new island with weather effects and more, here's Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 1 at a glance. We'll be bringing you continued coverage, quest guides, and everything else Fortnite-related as soon as the game is back online. Stay tuned! For now, here's what to expect when you first step onto the new Fortnite island.

Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 1 battle pass

The first battle pass in Fortnite's new era features two long-awaited characters: Marvel's Spider-Man and Epic's original hero The Foundation, who is voiced by and modeled after The Rock. Spidey comes with three total styles including his black symbiote suit and his white Future Foundation get-up. Six more heroes we've yet to meet await us as well, and we'll dive into their backstories as soon as we can.

You'll be able to earn the eight heroes and all of their related cosmetics by completing another 100 tiers of the battle pass, which for the third season in a row will feature the Battle Stars system, allowing to you choose the order in which you unlock some items. There will also be specific quests for battle pass characters, and completing them will grant you additional cosmetics.

For the first time ever, you can also earn battle pass XP in other game modes, such as Creative, though Epic has gone to great lengths to prevent exploits in this regard. It should mean the game's best Creative codes get more mileage in Chapter 3.

Spider-Man Joins Fortnite! Chapter 3 Delivers A Redesigned Island, Sliding And Swinging Gameplay Mechanics, Camps, And More!

2 years 5 months ago

Fortnite changes faster and more dynamically than any other ongoing game. Yesterday's epic finale to the two-year-long Chapter 2 event was again met with a radical shakeup to Fortnite's core gameplay formula. For the start of Chapter 3 – which begins today – developer Epic Games introduces a new gameplay movement through a character who knows it better than anyone.

Spider-Man is joining the Battle Royale, and he's bringing his web-swinging techniques with him. Players can play as the Wall Crawler in three suits: his classic red and blue comic-book look, the white Future Foundation suit, or his symbiotic black alternate. One of the new locations on the redesigned map is the Daily Bugle, a tall building that should hold a few Spider-Man easter eggs for fans.

Every character in the game can now swing across the environment just like Spidey. They can also slide. This is another new movement that can bring you closer to flat ground for strategic attacks and make you glide down hills at an accelerated speed. New weapons and items are also a part of the mix, but we'll have to wait until we get our hands on the game to see what awaits us.
