Happy’s Humble Burger Farm Gets Blood-Drenched Launch Trailer

2 years 5 months ago

In the mood for a cooking sim-cum-horror game? Well, Scythe Dev Team has got you covered with its latest title, Happy’s Humble Burger Farm, which is officially out now for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Nintendo Switch owners can look forward to experiencing the devilish burger-flipping action in “Q1, 2022.”

Accompanying the game’s recent release is a fresh launch trailer that’s hot off the grill. Go ahead and feast your eyeballs on the new footage below:

Blending the happy-go-lucky tone and vibe of a McDonald’s advert with the eerie terror of Five Nights At Freddy’s, Happy’s Humble Burger Farm is an ode to lo-fi, 32-bit era first-person adventure games with a healthy dollop of nail-bitingly demonic horror.

Players can cook various items from the menu, serve customers, upgrade their restaurant, take out the trash, put out fires, and get rid of all those pesky rats. Sounds like my first job, to be honest.

Inside the Surprise Chrono Cross-over Event That Has Fans Buzzing About a Remake

2 years 5 months ago

Following reports that beloved PlayStation RPG Chrono Cross might have a remaster in the works, another unrelated piece of official news is helping fuel the Chrono nostalgia even more. Chrono Cross is getting its first-ever crossover event by making an appearance in mobile JRPG Another Eden, beginning on December 9.

Of all the games in the world for Chrono Cross to show up in, Another Eden is probably the most appropriate choice. Officially titled Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space, the free-to-play adventure is a collaboration between Masato Kato and Yasunori Mitsuda, both of whom worked on Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. If you’ve played Another Eden at all, you’ve likely noticed a number of parallels with the Chrono games, ranging from the thematic (it’s a game about time traveling, fine) to the specific (there’s a talking frog named Cyrus, and a character that looks suspiciously like Lucca named Dr. Ashtear).

But this crossover event goes beyond cheeky references. Taking place in a parallel timeline where Another Eden hero Aldo fails to defeat his adversary, the Beast King, “Complex Dream” introduces Chrono Cross characters including Serge, Kid, and Harle into Aldo’s world. A piece of promo art shared with the announcement implies we may also see the likes of Lynx, Glenn, and Starky. Kato is penning the story, with Mitsuda overseeing new songs and remixed old favorites. And the crossover event will include multiple endings, voice actors for Serge (Ashton Frank), Kid (Sheena May), and Harle (Shazia Nicholls), and introduce new battle mechanics from Chrono Cross such as Star Levels, Elements, Combo Techs, and a New Game+ mode.

If the Chrono Cross Remaster Is Real, Please Let it Look Like This

2 years 5 months ago

We don't know if the reported Chrono Cross Remake is real or not, but if it is, we sure hope it looks like the cinematic trailer for the Chrono Cross and Another Eden crossover event, Complex Dream.

Set to the nostalgic opening theme Time Scar, the trailer shows off Serge, Kit, Harle, and Lynx alongside various Another Eden characters in a tribute to Chrono Cross' original intro movie. It's full of references, including the iconic moment when the camera zooms in on Kid's eye (with Feinne from Another Eden standing in here) and Harle's shot against a full moon.

And dang, they all look good.

Chrono Cross' intro is the kind of video game opening that still impresses even in 2021, but these shiny, high-quality renditions of Serge and crew are an exciting portrait of what could be, especially if that Chrono Cross remaster is indeed real.

While their Another Eden in-game selves have been shrunk down to chibi form, the crossover also comes with new full character art of Serge, Kid, and Harle that's just to die for:

And finally, there's this new piece of promo art, adding a few more familiar faces like Starky, Glenn, and FATE:

Exploring The History And Lore Of Metroid: Other M | Video Gameography

2 years 5 months ago

The first season of Game Informer’s Video Gameography explores the history of the Metroid series. This week, we're tackling the franchise's most reviled – or misunderstood – entry: Metroid: Other M.

Released for the Wii on August 31, 2010, Metroid: Other M saw Nintendo pass the development reins to Team Ninja, the studio most famous for the 3D Ninja Gaiden games. With a new developer came a drastic new vision for the series. A considerable emphasis on narrative gave Samus her first real speaking role (and boy does she talk) and the tale fleshed out her past life with the Galactic Federation.  We'll examine this polarizing narrative along with the development decisions behind Other M's blend of 2D and 3D gameplay.

Join hosts Ben Reeves (@BenjaminReeves), Marcus Stewart (@MarcusStewart7), and special guest, MinnMax cohort and former GI editor Kyle Hilliard (@KyleMHilliard) as we unpack the history and lore of Metroid: Other M. Is it as lousy as history has led us to believe? Tune in to get our takes.

Spookware is WarioWare With Skeletons, a Plot, and Movie Tropes

2 years 5 months ago

What do you get when you cross WarioWare with skeletons? Spookware, obviously.

But Spookware is more than just a WarioWare reskin. It’s a set of clever, film-themed micro games framed by a clever storytelling device of three skeleton bros who decide to leave their basement movie cave and go on an adventure in the world, solving problems and creating new ones as they go.

Developers Adam Pype, Viktor Kraus, and Tibau Van den Broeck didn’t start out trying to recreate themselves and their film-watching habits in the form of micro games. Instead, Spookware came from Pype’s participation in Game a Month, a challenge that (true to its name) asks developers to make one game per month over a set period. Pype and Kraus had worked together previously, and Kraus contributed sound for the first rendition of Spookware, while Van den Broeck joined in a bit later.

The early version of Spookware was just a small, rapidfire micro game set. But they were quickly approached by DreadXP to participate in one of its Dread X Collections, low-cost bundles of small, clever horror titles made in relatively short periods of time. DreadXP asked the trio to flesh out Spookware, and so of course they added skeletons.

How Halo Infinite’s Equipment Reshapes Its Golden Triangle

2 years 5 months ago

Six long years after Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Infinite is ready to pick up the mantle of Xbox’s flagship franchise. This time, the man in green gets an open-world playground of his own, Zeta Halo. And with a new playground comes new tools to even the odds against the Banished.

What isn’t new is equipment that can be carried and deployed to change the momentum of any game. Equipment was first introduced in Halo 3, and is now a vital part of Halo’s ecosystem.

Why is equipment a big deal? Equipment disrupts Halo’s golden triangle of damage dealing: melee, grenades, and guns. The golden triangle lies at the heart of every Halo game, though the term grew in popularity after being mentioned in a Halo 3 documentary. And while Halo’s approach to health and movement is unique too, the golden triangle is what’s responsible for the skill-based combat that Halo is most known for. Halo Infinite even mentions it by name across hints dropped during multiplayer matches.

Through the last 14 years, equipment meddled with Halo’s golden triangle in both good and bad ways, and nothing Halo devs have introduced since has made such a long-lasting impression. Before we take a look at how Halo Infinite implements it, let's dive into the checkered evolution of equipment through Halo’s formative years to today, where it’s become a staple of gameplay in Halo Infinite.

How To Make Custom Treasure Maps In Sea Of Thieves: Quest Board And How To Bury Treasure

2 years 5 months ago

In Sea of Thieves Season 5, user-generated content has come to the game in the form of the new Quest Board, a place where players can leave their custom treasure maps for other players to discover. When players complete these quests, both they and the map-makers will reap the rewards. Here's how to create or play custom treasure maps in Sea of Thieves, as well as how to bury treasure yourself.

Sea of Thieves custom maps via the Quest Board

Starting with the launch of Sea of Thieves Season 5, new Quest Boards will appear at every Outpost and Seapost in the game, and each one will feature unique, player-created treasure maps that can hide whatever secrets their original creators deemed worthy of a quest. To find a Quest Board, look for it near the Shipwright's Shop on any Outpost--and if you're on one of the tiny Seaposts, you surely won't miss it.

Every Outpost and Seapost now features a Quest Board.

Interacting with it reveals two categories: the available quests and a My Maps section. The available quests section features the user-created maps already pinned to the board, and you can add up to five of them to your quest radial menu per day. This upper limit is likely to prevent players from boosting gold and glory with overly basic quests. You can see which island you'll be heading to, but you can't see its number of loot stashes until you've added it to your inventory.

Fortnite Gears Of War Skins Leak, Revealing Marcus Fenix And Kait Diaz

2 years 5 months ago

Epic Games' next collaboration will be with a series it helped create. Fortnite Gears of War skins have leaked thanks to the game's official Polish YouTube channel publishing the Chapter 3, Season 1 battle pass trailer ahead of schedule. While Marcus Fenix and Kait Diaz are not in the battle pass for the upcoming season, it seems they won't be far behind as apparent Item Shop additions, as they're teased in the same trailer as the battle pass' eight new characters.

Gears of War is a series built and, for a long time, led by a former incarnation of Epic Games, long before the developer became famous for its free-to-play battle royale. Marcus Fenix is the series' original protagonist, who went on to pass the baton to younger characters like his son, JD, beginning with the time-jumping Gears of War 4. In the more simply titled Gears 5 from new Gears-focused studio The Coalition, it's Kait Diaz who takes up the mantle of the protagonist. Now, both the original and most recent stars of the series are on their way to the new Fortnite Chapter 3 island.

You can catch Kait and Marcus preparing for battle in the leaked Fortnite trailer linked above, though if you don't want any other Chapter 3 spoilers, you can instead just stick to a screenshot from the leaked trailer embedded below.

Fortnite Spider-Man Skin Revealed As Chapter 3 Season 1 Battle Pass Trailer Leaks

2 years 5 months ago

The Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 1 battle pass trailer has leaked, and in the process, has revealed new characters, a new island, and more, including the long-awaited Spider-Man skin. The trailer, presented in Polish, was mistakenly shared publicly on an official Fortnite channel and has teased some of what players can expect in the new chapter. Consider this your spoiler warning.

The addition of Spider-Man was always assumed to be only a matter of time given the close relationship between Epic and Marvel, and recently leakers said the webslinger would show up as early as this next season. As it turns out, they were right. Not only is Spidey a part of the Chapter 3, Season 1 battle pass, but part of his canonical New York is coming to the island in the form of The Daily Bugle.

Alongside the character reveals, you can also see hints of the game's new features, such as weather effects, distinct biomes across a seemingly massive new map, a sliding mechanic, and rebuilt physics which allows trees to actually fall over rather than just disappear when chopped down. For a full translation of the trailer's Polish narration, refer to the work of pequleaks.

Another Eden × Chrono Cross Interview; Game Director Discusses Upcoming Crossover

2 years 5 months ago

Following today’s announcement of the “Complex Dream” crossover between Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space and legendary JRPG Chrono Cross, fans likely have quite a few questions.

To answer some of them, Twinfinite had a chat with Another Eden game director Daisuke Takeshima, who talked about what we can expect and Wright Flyer Studios work on such a beloved IP.

Giuseppe: Could you explain how Complex Dream came to be? Who had the idea, and how was it turned into reality?

Daisuke Takeshima: We’ve received requests for a Chrono series crossover from Another Eden fans for a long time. Within the development team, we had also been discussing since release how great it would be if we could work on something with the Chrono series. We were able to have Square Enix’s blessing for this crossover which made our dream into reality.

The story is written by Masato Kato, and the music was created by Procyon Studio led by Yasunori Mitsuda. Nobuteru Yuuki, who designed the original Chrono Cross characters, oversaw the artwork. We think that these elements contributed to crossover content that would satisfy fans.

Giuseppe: We heard that Complex Dream will include new mechanics. Could you provide an outline?

Daisuke Takeshima: You’re right! We added numerous mechanics and features for this crossover.

First is “New Game+.” This mechanic did not exist in Another Eden previously, and there was no content that would diverge depending on the players’ choice. But we felt that a core element of Chrono Cross is that the players’ choice affects which characters become allies and what the player experiences. We knew this was indispensable to the crossover, so we decided to implement it.
