Microsoft Flight Simulator Embraer E170 DC-10/KC-10, & Rome Fiumicino Airport Get New Screenshots; Wakkanai & Aarhus Released

2 years 3 months ago

Third-party developers revealed new assets and development updates for their upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator add-ons, while two airports have been released.

We start with Ouroboros Jets, which provided images and an update about its freeware Embraer E170, which appears to have made a lot of progress.

“Good morning or night where ever you might be in the world. It’s been a long time since that last update we posted but I’m here to say we are back to inform you with the latest changes to the Ejets. Updates will be a bit shorter from now on since most of us are incredibly busy. The biggest change we will touch more on in future updates is our decision to move into LOAD27 for our displays. We have greater resources and most real life ejet fleets have moved over to this system upgrade. We’ve also re-coded almost all of the previous work with SVG code, which is a lighter weight method of displaying things on the screen. It will also reduce file size marginally. It’s not something that we *had* to do but it’s something we wanted to do. The goal is still an accurate and performant Ejet. LincolnCFCruz has also put in some hard work for systems since asobo raised our bus limits and gave us a fantastic new tool for debugging electrical systems. Happy Holidays!”

Changelog [12|30|21]

SDK

  • “Completed” Electrical configuration files
  • “Completed” Fuel configuration files
  • Loading screen images and tips introduced (Still a WIP)
  • Waiting for target performance

Games To Help Keep My New Year's Resolutions

2 years 3 months ago

It’s time to put 2021 in the rearview mirror and look forward to the new year. For most of us, that means thinking about how to make 2022 an even better year than the last with some New Year’s resolutions. Every year when this time rolls around, I make big plans. And while I resolve to better myself and start up good habits with the best of intentions, I notice they start to break down as the months go on. So this year, I’m bringing in a little backup: video games.

It’s Time To Get Healthy

Like many people, my first resolution every year is to be a little healthier after the indulgent past few weeks. Despite video games being a mostly sedentary hobby, there are a handful of titles that can help keep this goal from fizzling out. First, I’m turning to Ring Fit Adventure. Sure, there are a ton of games that get you up and moving, like the Just Dance series or Beat Saber, but there is something about my motion propelling the main character forward to save the world that’s really motivating. I’m not going to lie, though; I’ve tried the game before and only made it through the first area.

Halo Infinite Player Wins More Than 100 Consecutive Free-For-All Matches

2 years 3 months ago

There are decent Halo Infinite players, really great players, ranked Onyx players, and then there’s Remy “Mint Blitz,” an Australian streamer who won more than 100 free-for-all matches in a row.

First reported by Kotaku, Mint Blitz originally set out to win 50 consecutive free-for-all matches in the recently-released (and free-to-play) multiplayer portion of Halo Infinite. After winning 50 in a row, though, he upped the ante and sought to win 100 consecutive matches…and he did it. In fact, he continued on to win even more, finally breaking the streak around “105, 106 straight” wins.

The streamer said it took him about a week to amass 100 consecutive wins and it went essentially flawlessly, save for one hiccup: his PC froze and he was forced to quit out of Halo Infinite. However, his video shows that he was up by 10 points, meaning he was almost certainly going to win. Considering a PC freeze is out of his hands, Mint Blitz absolutely gets the pass on that. When he booted the game up again, he was back to his winning streak.

Final Fantasy XIV Devs Will Share Plans for Post-Endwalker Future Before Patch 6.1

2 years 3 months ago

Today Square Enix released the traditional New Year message from Final Fantasy XIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida.

This one is rather special, considering that the recently-released expansion Endwalker is the last chapter of the original Final Fantasy XIV story which has continued since the 1.0 release in September 2010. Now, over eleven years after, a completely new storyline will begin.

Most interestingly, Yoshida-san shared that the plans for the future of the game will be disclosed before the next major update (numbered 6.1) is released.

Below you can read the full message.

Happy new year to all you FFXIVers out there!
This is Producer & Director Naoki Yoshida.

Though we regrettably had to delay Endwalker by two weeks right before it was originally slated for release, it was on December 7 that the expansion finally went out into the world─a conclusion to the saga of Hydaelyn and Zodiark which began all the way back in 1.0. It’s now been a full eleven years since I came aboard FFXIV, and I feel that I’ve put everything I have into this expansion. I’m certainly curious to know what sort of an impression it’s left with you.

Setting aside game content, the large influx of players around the world since mid-year and the impact of Covid-19 on the supply of server equipment have led to extremely long login queues, and I’d like to sincerely apologize again. We’re currently working to fundamentally address the situation, such as adding logical data centers and increasing the number of Worlds in all regions, and we ask for your patience in the meantime.

Now then, as its title suggests, Endwalker winds up the tale that has been woven since 1.0. However, FFXIV itself is far from over, and we’ve already begun creating new journeys for all you Warriors of Light─or adventurers, rather─to embark upon!

Square Enix President’s New Year Message Discusses NFTs, Blockchain Games, Cloud, & AI

2 years 3 months ago

Today Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda published a New Year message on the publisher’s official website.

The letter includes a rather extensive discussion about blockchain games and NFT (Non-Fungible Tokens). These trends appear to be an area of focus for the company, while Matsuda-san acknowledges that the “Majority of players” have “expressed reservations” about them.

We also hear about other focus areas like AI and cloud gaming.

You can read the full message below.

“I would like to begin by wishing everyone a Happy New Year.

The metaverse was a hot topic in 2021, inspiring a lively global conversation first about what the metaverse is and then about what sort of business opportunities it presents. Against this backdrop, Facebook changed its name in October to Meta, serving as evidence that the concept is not a mere buzzword but here to stay. The metaverse garnered so much attention that 2021 was dubbed the “Metaverse Year”

2 years 3 months ago

As 2021 and the holiday season come to a close, the Epic Games Store has one more treat up its sleeve. Until January 6, Tomb Raider: Game of the Year Edition, Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will all available for free to anyone with an Epic Games account.

The Epic Games Store giving out free games is nothing new as it does so every week, but this final gift in 2021 is something special as it offers the complete Tomb Raider reboot trilogy to anyone with an Epic Games Account. No strings attached.

By looking at the current prices listed on the Epic Games Store for these games, you are looking at a savings of $90 by adding these to your collection this way.

The offer ends on January 6 at 11am, so head to the store before then if you wish to try out the highly regarded trilogy that brought Lara Croft back to modern consoles beginning in 2013.

In our Tomb Raider review, we said that it "is a superb action game that brings a new emotional dimension to one of gaming's most enduring icons, and repositions her alongside Nathan Drake at the top of gaming's action-hero heirarchy."
