Valorant Patch 3.09 Notes Bring Classic Right-Click Nerg & Fracture Changes

2 years 5 months ago

Valorant Episode 3, Act 3, will bring about a nerf to the Classic right-click which has been much-requested for some time by casual and professional players alike. The right-click inaccuracy for walking, running, and jumping has been increased across the board, which is presumably designed to put a stronger emphasis on precise shooting.

Other notable changes in Patch 3.09 include some minor balancing tweaks to Fracture. Here’s the full overview via Riot Games’ official website:

WEAPON UPDATES

CLASSIC (RIGHT-CLICK)

The Classic has been over-performing in close to mid-range encounters when used while jumping or on the move. So we’ve reduced the weapon’s effective accuracy while jumping, running, and walking, with the intent of narrowing it’s ideal use case to only really close ranges.

Off-topic: Getting off the familiar fantasy merry-go-round, and loving it

2 years 5 months ago

Whenever I have a conversation with someone about fantasy fiction, we always seem to end up recommending the same things. Things like The Name of the Wind by Rothfuss (the Kingkiller Chronicles), The Lies of Locke Lamora by Lynch (Gentleman Bastard series), or the Earthsea books - I revisited these recently and books one and two are still absolute bangers - by le Guin. Tolkien is always implied, maybe Philip Pullman and George R.R. Martin too, and Sapkowski's popular now too.

And this - this merry-go-round of the same recommendations - it started to bother me. It's not because the books are rubbish; obviously they're not. But they're known. Fantasy is saturated by them. And their voices, excluding le Guin, are all quite similar. I realised I'd become a bit trapped by their influence, and I realised I wanted something new.

New World Disables Wealth Transfers Following Gold Exploit

2 years 5 months ago

Amazon Games has disabled all forms of wealth transfers in its popular MMO New World following an exploit that was found in the game allowing players to duplicate gold as well as post images to the game's global chat and crash other players' games.

An update post published on New World's forums detailed the actions that the studio is implementing in wake of the issue.

"We are aware of a possible gold duplication exploit that has been circling and we are temporarily disabling all forms of wealth transfer between players," reads a statement from one of the game's Community Managers. "Any player that has engaged in the use of this exploit will be actioned against," the post states before going on to confirm that the developer is working hard on a fix.

Disabling all forms of wealth transfers in the game may sound like a pretty extreme step from the developer but it's definitely one way to ensure that the studio has control over the situation while it investigates the problem further.

The forum's initial statement did not specify exactly what action would be taken against players participating in the duplication of gold, however, a subsequent post has since outlined this more clearly stating that the studio will be "banning individuals who were using [the exploit]."

Jumbo Jets Airlifting PS5 Stock Into the UK in Time for Christmas

2 years 5 months ago

PlayStation 5 consoles are being airlifted into the UK in time for Christmas, with three full jumbo jets arriving in the UK over the last two weeks, and another two planned for later in November.

PS5s have been in increasingly short supply in the UK this year, but it seems Sony has started to take extra precautions to ensure more gamers can have access to the new console before the end of the year.

According to the report by The Sun, Boeing 747 jets have been touching down in London ready to ship the consoles across the UK.

"A phenomenal operation has been underway to stock UK shelves of PS5s for Christmas," a Sony source told The Sun. They also said that Sony "just wants to keep fans happy".

"The 747 plane is rare after being decommissioned by British Airways, but carries a vast amount of cargo as a freighter aircraft," the source added.

"Each plane can bring in 100 tonnes of equipment on almost 50 pallets. It means millions of gamers will now be smiling this Christmas."

In May, Sony CFO Hiroki Tokoi claimed during an earnings call that the company is expecting PS5s to remain in limited supply throughout next year. In that same month, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang echoed these thoughts, with supply shortages for the RTX 30 series to last until "the second half of this year."

New Valorant ‘Radiant Crisis’ Skin Bundle Features Baseball Bat Melee & Comic-Book Aesthetic

2 years 5 months ago

Valorant Episode 3, Act 3 kicks off this week, and while its main attraction, the new Agent Chamber, has been delayed by two weeks, there is at least a new weapon skin bundle to look forward to. It’s called Radiant Crisis, and it’s designed a cool comic-book aesthetic complete with whimsical SFX and animations.

One particularly appealing feature is its melee weapon, a cool baseball bat that is sure to go down a treat with fans of the game.

Sean Marino, associate art director at Riot Games, said of the design process in a press release:

We looked at a number of different comic styles and eras, and even pulled references from some other games over the last few years that have executed a similar-looking 2D style in a 3D world. One of the biggest “Aha!” moments during this reference period was when one of our producers showed us a video of an artist who paints Gundam models as if they were drawn for the manga or anime. This bizarre juxtaposition of seeing something that looked as if it was made for 2D animation but represented as a physical object was exactly that kind of feeling we were going for, and with a combination of styles and references we were able to make something that we feel is incredibly unique for a skin.

Here’s an overview of the bundle’s key features:

Price: 7,100 VP

  • Baseball Bat (melee)
  • Phantom
  • Spectre
  • Classic
  • Bucky

Levels

Melee

  • Level 1 – New visual texture design
  • Level 2 – Custom visual effects

Guns

  • Level 1 – New visual texture design
  • Level 2 – Custom visual effects
  • Level 3 – Kill Banner and Finisher

You can check out a closer look of the weapon models in the gallery below.

RiotX Event Brings Free Themed Battle Pass & More to Valorant

2 years 5 months ago

Riot Games’ first foray into television is set to kick-off later this month when Arcane’s first episode releases, marking the premiere of an animated series based on the League of Legends universe. To celebrate, the publisher is running an enormous event called RiotX within League of Legends, but it’s also coming to Valorant as well.

While not all that surprising in itself given that Riot has run Valorant crossover events with League of Legends in the past, what is likely to surprise is the depth of content –both free and premium– that has been crafted for the event.

First off, there’s a free battle pass throughout November which marks Valorant’s largest event pass to date.

The 10 tiers of the battle pass offer the following rewards:

⦁ 1 Gun Buddy: Arcane Cupcake
⦁ 2 Arcane Player Cards: Arcane Embrace and Welcome to the Undercity
⦁ 2 Arcane Sprays: Calculated and Boom!
⦁ 3 Titles: Arcane, Cupcake, and Liar
⦁ 20 Radianite Points

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the content:

Skyrim Board Game Includes a Prequel to the Original RPG

2 years 5 months ago

RPG and tabletop publisher Modiphius Entertainment is creating a Skyrim board game that will include a sequel to the original RPG.

As detailed in an article by Polygon, the upcoming co-operative tabletop game will include two campaigns, each with three chapters. In an interview with the outlet, game designer Juan Echenique explained that fans embarking on the first of those campaigns will be able to take part in events that pre-date the narrative set out in its video game counterpart.

“The first campaign is 25 years before [the events of the video game],” said Echenique. “So you get to meet some of the [non-player characters] from Skyrim, but 25 years before when they were a young adventurer and then they take an arrow to the knee — and that happens!"

While finally uncovering the mystery behind that famous - albeit somewhat overused - stock NPC line is sure to peak the attention of Skyrim fans across the community, campaign two is also sure to turn a number of heads as fans will encounter Skyrim's famous Dragonborn from the perspective of other characters in Tamriel.

Honor of Kings: World Is a Gorgeous Open-World Spin-Off From One of China’s Biggest Games

2 years 5 months ago

Tencent and TiMi Studio Group have announced Honor of Kings: World, a gorgeous open-world game that features vibrant, colourful graphics and cool monster fights. You can check out the trailer below.

Honor of Kings: World has its roots in one of China's biggest games, the mobile MOBA Honor of Kings. With 100 million daily users, it's one of the biggest games in the world, but is largely unheard of in the west. But developer TiMi Studio Group plans to bring Honor of Kings to the rest of the world, but this time "reimagined" as an AAA action RPG set in an open world. The trailer definitely gives off Monster Hunter and action RPG vibes, which is no bad thing.

Planned for release on "multiple platforms", Honor of Kings: World will see a worldwide release. Very little is known about the game so far, but TiMi Studio Group has offered a rough description of what we can expect.

"To uncover ancient secrets hidden in the whisper of wind, cross paths with a diverse cast of lovable characters, create your own story alongside the living legends of different schools of thought in the Jixia Academy, or delve into the wondrous scenery of the Chang'an city where magic and technology converge ..." reads a post on the game's Facebook page.

Dubium Announced

2 years 5 months ago

Startup game developer Mumo Studio – whose founders have resumes that include games like Black Desert Online and Dead to Rights – has announced Dubium, a new five-player social deduction multiplayer game for PC via Steam Early Access in 2022.

Gameplay, as the studio describes it, should sound familiar to Among Us fans: "Players take on the role of Frontier or Traitor and must escape from an abandoned space station by any means necessary. Frontiers will cooperate to repair solar panels that power the escape pod while trying to uncover the identity of the sole Traitor. Players must not relax until they escape; the Traitor will sabotage the Frontiers’ efforts at every step as they try to complete their own mission. The Traitor needs to hide their identity and use deceit and treachery to take the Frontiers out one by one in order to escape the station unopposed."

A key obvious difference between Among Us and Dubium, though, is certainly the presentation. While Among Us has its own cartoony look, Dubium aims for a much higher production value, though its visual style could certainly still be described as cartoony.

Gadgets are upgradeable during matches, a Twitch extension is built-in so as to try and make Dubium a streamer-friendly game, and you can sign up for a future closed beta test on the official website and see more on the Steam page.

Netflix Adding Mobile Games As a New Perk to Subscribers; In”Early Days Of Creating a Great Gaming Experience”

2 years 5 months ago

Today Netflix announced that they will be adding a new perk to current subscribers: video games. Specifically, at least, in this case, mobile games are what are on the menu. The service will be branded as Netflix Games.

Starting right now, anyone that’s a Netflix subscriber and also an Android phone user can download/open up the Netflix app and dive into a new Games row that will include the following games: Stranger Things: 1984 (BonusXP), Stranger Things 3: The Game (BonusXP), Shooting Hoops (Frosty Pop), Card Blast (Amuzo & Rogue Games), and Teeter Up (Frosty Pop).

At the moment this perk seems only available to Android phone users and there’s no mention whatsoever of Apple devices in the announcement posted by Netflix today.

At worst, considering there’s no additional cost to subscribers, this is a pretty non-offensive but also non-earthshattering development. If you’re an Android user and Netflix subscriber that would enjoy having access to some mobile games, with the hint of more to come, then I’m happy for you.

Is this the start of an Xbox Game Pass-like offering, though? Netflix certainly has a long way to go to catch up to Microsoft or even Sony on that front if that’s their ambition. Right now it’s hard to tell if Netflix is just angling to offer a little bit of extra value to their subscribers or if they have bigger plans down the road.

If you’re interested and want all of the details, you can check out Netflix’s post detailing everything you need to know.

Halo Infinite Short Film “Unspoken” Expands Lore of Master Chief’s Shield

2 years 5 months ago

This morning, the official Halo Twitter account tweeted out an almost four minute video titled Unspoken showing some of the background to how Master Chief’s energy shield came to be part of his arsenal.

The Tweet itself reads:

[Official UNSC Archives transmission] This is the untold story behind the Master Chief’s energy shield and the brave soldier who risked death to confiscate vital Covenant technology.

Unspoken starts with a brief text opening that says:

Assigned to a freighter escaping the destruction of Harvest, two marines confiscated alien energy shields while defending passengers from an enemy boarding assault. This led to a technological breakthrough that accelerated the development of the Master Chief’s defense system.

For those not as knowledgeable of Halo lore, Harvest bears great importance to the start of the war with the Covenant. Harvest also bears the sad but notable distinction of being the first Human planet “glassed” by the Covenant. The book Halo: Contact Harvest by Joseph Staten tells the story of Harvest in depth, for anyone interested.

Unspoken shows Chris Preston, a Lance Corporal, using American Sign-Language as a computer translates the signing into words. The video is addressed to the parents of David Dominguez, the other marine mentioned in the opening who didn’t make it.

There’s no action, simply a marine who just accomplished one of the most important things in turning the tide of the war as it just began, telling the story of his brother in arms who didn’t make it. Prepare for an emotional video.

You can watch Unspoken here on Twitter or embedded below:
