Sol Cresta Delayed; New Gameplay Showcased Including Vertical Screen Mode & Opening Cutscene

2 years 5 months ago

Today, during a livestream from Japan, Hideki Kamiya himself announced that PlatinumGames’ shoot ’em up Sol Cresta has been delayed.

The game was supposed to release on December 9. The new release date has not been announced. The developers hope to announce it at the beginning of 2022.

According to the producer, there were scheduling and quality issues that convinced the developer that it was better to delay the game.

We also get to see some gameplay of the second stage, portraying the improvements made to the game thanks to the additional time.

For instance, formations have been changed in order to make them easier to use. We also see entirely new formations.

Next is a look at the Caravan mode, a five minutes score attack mode. We also see the achievements.

Bandido is a maze game with a card-based twist

2 years 5 months ago

For ages I have been after a card game that meets very specific requirements. It must be small enough to fit in a pocket - no extra pieces or whatnot, meaning I can bust it out when and where. It must have the option to play single-player. And finally, it must be obscure or stylish enough to ensure that when I play it I feel like I'm in on some great smug secret. I appreciate this last point is not endearing.

Anyway, Bandido! Sweet Bandido! Bandido is a lovely compact card game from Helvetiq, which I discovered over half-term. It fits in a very small box and is playable with elegant cards which are all a little thinner than normal playing cards. Hold them in your hand and it's a bit like holding a small cardboard coffin - perfect, it turns out, for such a claustrophobic treat.

Nintendo Switch N64 Controllers Seemingly Sold Out Until 2022

2 years 5 months ago

The Nintendo Switch N64 controller released in conjunction with the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership will seemingly remain sold out until 2022 in the US.

After selling out quickly following release late last month, the US Nintendo Store now displays a notice saying, "More controllers will be available in 2022." It's not clear if that applies worldwide – while also sold out in the UK, that regional store doesn't include the same notice.

It's more of a problem than you might expect – the difference in layout between the N64 controller and Joy-Cons means that some N64 games released on Switch have seen unusual button mapping, which can't currently be remapped. In essence, players may find it hard to play the games they're subscribing for without the appropriate controller.

We've contacted Nintendo for comment on the controller shortages.

N64 games were added to Nintendo Switch as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership, which adds the benefits of the original Nintendo Switch Online service as well as N64 and Sega Genesis Games, as well the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Happy Home Paradise DLC – albeit at a $30 price increase per year.

Battlefield 2042 is Getting a 10-Hour Trial for EA Play and Game Pass Members

2 years 5 months ago

Battlefield 2042 will be getting a 10-hour trial for members of EA Play, starting on November 12. This will also include Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members on consoles, alongside members of Game Pass PC, and EA Play Pro on PC.

The game had a fairly interesting open beta, sparking a lot of debate about the current state of the shooter. EA has tried to calm nerves by informing fans that the beta build was a few months old at least, but that doesn't mean there still won't be concerns about the final product. So, this trial might be a good opportunity for a second chance at a first impression.

Battlefield 2042 is set to release on November 19, 2021, after being delayed by a month from its original October 22 launch day.

This upcoming trial will be another feather in the cap for Xbox Game Pass users, since Game Pass already has an absolutely stacked November lined up, with Forza Horizon 5, GTA San Andreas, and It Takes Two all coming to the service.

Incredible Mod Turns Crusader Kings 3 and Mount & Blade 2 Into a Single Game

2 years 5 months ago

A developer has created a very smart mod that turns Crusader Kings 3 and Mount & Blade 2 into a single game, allowing players to strategize in the former and battle inside the latter.

For as much as Crusader Kings 3 does an impressive job at simulating the complex political and social structures of medieval rule, one particular element that it lacks is a battle simulator that allows players to jump into the action and see their forces battle it out in real-time.

Now, however, a developer has created Crusader Blade - a new mod that remedies that exact problem. Taking your armies from Crusader Kings 3, the Crusader Blade mod then uses the battle engine from Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord to allow you to fight against your enemies at ground level before sending the data back to Crusader Kings 3 to update your campaign.

The mod even accounts for scaling issues and factors in the size and scope of battles that each game can run. As it doesn't have to render conflict in real-time, battles in Crusader Kings 3 can sometimes be fought between tens of thousands of troops on the battlefield at once - a factor that Mount & Blade 2 can't quite manage.

As Blizzard's internal troubles continue, its games continue to shed players

2 years 5 months ago

Blizzard's monthly active user count has dropped again, the embattled company admitted last night, during its latest quarterly results.

The developer's monthly active users (MAUs) total was down 13 percent year-on-year, to 26 million players. That's despite the recent launch of Diablo 2: Resurrected in September. Indeed, that figure means Blizzard has overall shed a million active users since May, and three million total since the quarter before that, when it was at 29 million.

New Company of Heroes 3 Dev Diary Spotlights Its Beautiful Mediterranean Setting

2 years 5 months ago

Ever fancied taking a trip to the gorgeous vistas of the Mediterranean? Well, Relic Entertainment and Sega’s upcoming WWII RTS experience, Company of Heroes 3, has got you well and truly covered.

Indeed, the companies’ latest developer diary focuses on the gorgeous intercontinental landscapes in its long-running military strategy franchise. Go ahead and take a gander at the new video down below:

As you can see above, the Canadian studio chose the Mediterranean setting thanks to player feedback. However, while the stunning Italian mountains, beaches and African deserts are a beauty to behold, they also lent themselves well to a lot of environmental gameplay variety, too, which is a critical aspect of the beloved series.

Boasting an “improved destruction system,” which sees your units getting felled by falling debris, plus “big tank battles” that requires tactical flanking from miles away, there’s clearly been a lot of thought put into how the environmental gameplay and Mediterranean setting synergise together.

Xbox And Adidas Unveil Xbox 360 Sneakers You Can Actually Buy

2 years 5 months ago

In early October, Xbox and Adidas partnered up to create a cool sneaker commemorating the 20th anniversary of the console. The downside: the shoe wasn’t for sale and could only be won in a contest. Fortunately for gamers and sneakerheads, the two companies are at it again, creating another console-inspired sneaker that you can purchase the old-fashioned way.

Dubbed the Xbox 360 Forum Mid, the shoe draws aesthetic inspiration from, you guessed it, the Xbox 360. Like the original version of the console, the sneaker sports a predominantly white look with silver and lime-green accents. Eagle-eyed fans will notice the strap resembles the 360’s disc tray. The heel has elements referencing the removable hard drive and memory unit slots. These easter eggs are largely subtle; the Xbox button on the sides of the shoe is the only dead giveaway you’re wearing a console on your feet. The sneaker also comes with four extra laces in red, yellow, green, and blue. I’m sure you can guess the significance of those colors.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Masahiro Sakurai Not Thinking About Sequel, But Won’t Rule One Out

2 years 5 months ago

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai isn’t thinking about a sequel Smash Bros. game, but he’s also not ruling one out...for now.

Sakurai only just revealed Ultimate’s final fighter, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, last month and after over three years of DLC development, it was presumed that Sakurai would take a well-earned rest. It seems he’s doing that, but it hasn’t stopped him from speculating on the future of the Smash Bros. series.

In an issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu, Sakurai said he’s not currently thinking about a sequel to Ultimate, as reported by Video Games Chronicle

“I’m not thinking about a sequel,” Sakurai said to Famitsu. “But I can’t say that this is definitely the last Smash Bros.”

Speedrunner Beats Ocarina of Time in Under 4 Minutes... Inside Smash Bros. Brawl

2 years 5 months ago

A speedrunner has managed to beat The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in under four minutes. Thing is, they managed the impressive feat without even using the full release of the game.

As spotted by Polygon, a speedrunner going by the username Savestate uploaded a video to YouTube showcasing their run of the N64 classic. Using a demo version of the game loaded from inside Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii, Savestate managed to complete the game in an immensely impressive 3 minutes and 41 seconds.

Within the speedrunning community, games have a number of categories that users can attempt speedruns in. Savestate's attempt at the game is classed as an "Any%" run, which essentially means that a player is able to use various bugs, glitches, and exploits to finish the game as quickly as possible. The speedrunner's time is almost half that of the full version of Ocarina of Time's world record, which currently stands at 6 minutes and 49 seconds - although there are significant differences between the full version and the demo included in Smash Bros. Brawl.

Battlefield Portal Explainer Reveals an Absurd Amount of Customisation

2 years 5 months ago

EA and DICE have offered an in-depth look at how Battlefield Portal, the create-your-own-Battlefield-experience tool that will be available in Battlefield 2042, works. The details reveal just how flexible the system is, from allowing faithful recreations of fan favourites such as Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3, to Frankenstein-like mashups that bring in weapons, rules, and maps from multiple different legacy games.

Battlefield Portal will use a web browser interface, allowing for easy set up of custom modes. The Portal can be accessed even if you don’t own Battlefield 2042, meaning you can still create games and share them with friends that do own the game.

Creating an ‘Experience’ in Battlefield Portal requires completing a variety of steps, starting with choosing a game mode. Portal offers the classic roster of Battlefield modes; Conquest, Conquest Large, Rush, Free-For-All, and Team Deathmatch. These can be played on a variety of classic maps, and you’re not limited to the ‘right’ number of players for each one; for example, Noshahr Canals: Container Area can be played with 128 players (on PC and new-gen consoles), despite being designed for far fewer combatants.

Portal features 13 small maps and 13 medium maps, plus 7 large maps that can only be played on PC and new-gen consoles. Among them are fan favourites including Arica Harbor, Caspian Border, and Battle of the Bulge. The full list can be seen below.
