Ruined King: A League of Legends Story Review

2 years 4 months ago

Airship Syndicate’s work on Ruined King: A League of Legends Story weaves a wonderful tale that is primed to capture League of legends fans new and old. Blending the design ideas of its previous turn-based RPG, Battle Chasers: Nightwar, with LoL’s lore, it brings together a handful of favorite characters and gives them room to grow over the course of a lengthy and well-paced campaign. While some bugs slowed me down, a compelling story, gorgeous graphic novel-style art, modest character development, and versatile combat kept me entertained as I finally got to experience the world of Runeterra from a different perspective.

Riot has spent the last decade creating diverse, unique, and memorable characters for its MOBA, but until recently they’ve been showcased mainly through video shorts. All that changed in November 2021, first with Netflix’s brilliant animated series Arcane, and now Ruined King and its vast amount of dialogue and backstory, fans like myself can dive far deeper into what makes at least a small portion of the 157-character roster so special. Coming away from this adventure, I found myself more invested in characters I previously knew but had sidelined.

More Steam Users Are Still Playing Farming Simulator 22 Over Battlefield 2042

2 years 4 months ago

Over the past couple of days, sites like Game Rant, which we first saw surface these stats, have been keeping an eye on how Steam users are spending their time by comparing two disparate but new titles from the month of November. One is a humble farming sim, while the other is a blockbuster multiplayer shooter. Which would you guess more people are playing on the platform just weeks after launch? As of 6:30 p.m. on November 30, Farming Simulator 22 was beating Battlefield 2042 in concurrent Steam users. That's a bit of a surprise, yeah?

In the image above (captured from Steam's own data you can see here), the numbers on the left represent current active players for each game, while the numbers on the right are total players for the day. As of the time of this snapshot, Farming Simulator 22 had over 3,000 more current players than Battlefield 2042.

However, time of day does matter when collecting this data. A scant 45 minutes later, at 7:15 p.m., the tables had turned in favor of Battlefield with 27,685 active players compared to the 26,782 playing Farming Simulator, which you can see below.

Here’s How You Can Manage Server Congestion Issues for FFXIV: Endwalker’s Launch

2 years 4 months ago

With just about a week to go before the launch of the new Endwalker expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, Square Enix has released a new post detailing some of the server issues players will likely encounter when the expansion is released. It’s not uncommon for MMORPGs to experience high login queues and congestion, and with all the exciting new content coming in Endwalker, players will need to get ready for that as well.

First off, Square Enix advises players to have their characters created and ready to go before launch, as you won’t be able to create new characters in congested worlds. This shouldn’t be an issue for longtime fans and veterans, but new players should be aware.

Amazon Game Studios Reassures Players that They’re Clamping Down on New World Bot Accounts

2 years 4 months ago

Over the past month or so, Amazon Game Studios’ pirate-themed MMORPG New World has been plagued by a number of issues. This includes dupe glitches surfacing because of server transfers and other bugs in the game, forcing the dev team to completely shut down the economy, resulting in un-upgraded towns and halting progress.

To make matters worse, the game has also recently seen a surge in bot activity, where bot accounts are camping some of the more popular resource gathering spots in the game to farm for materials. Considering that resources are not unique to players, and that they must compete with each other to farm them, bot activity means that their progress has been slowed down considerable.

In a statement to Kotaku, Amazon Game Studios reassured fans that they’re definitely aware of increased bot activity in the game and are working hard on banning them as quickly as possible.

“We’re aware of player reports about increased bot activity in New World. Bots pose a persistent challenge for MMOs, and our team has deployed dedicated resources and tooling to identify and combat them. We are committed to continuous improvement in our fight against bots, and yesterday alone, we banned over 7,700 accounts for using bots. Our goal is to ensure New World is fun and fair for all players. We’ll post updates to the New World forums and Twitter as we have them.”

Dead Cells: The Queen and the Sea DLC Announced for Early 2022, Will Have a New Final Boss

2 years 4 months ago

Motion Twin has been absolutely killing it with Dead Cells updates. The new (and free) Everyone Is Here update is already out on PC and consoles, featuring costumes and weapons from other popular games like Hollow Knight and Hyper Light Drifter. And today, the company has announced yet another paid DLC called The Queen and the Sea.

You can check out the short teaser trailer for yourself down below:

According to the press release, this DLC is slated for an early 2022 release and it’ll introduce two new biomes to the game. Perhaps more excitingly, the DLC will also feature and all-new ending to the game and an alternative final boss, the titular Queen herself.

The teaser trailer offers us a glimpse at the Queen, but we don’t have too many details about the biomes themselves yet. It’s safe to assume that the DLC will add new enemy types and plenty of new weapons to play around with.

Dead Cells is now available on PC and consoles.
