10 Nintendo 64 & Sega Genesis Games That Need To Be Added to Nintendo Switch Online

2 years 8 months ago

During last week’s Nintendo Direct, we learned that two new consoles will be added to the Nintendo Switch Online service through an expansion pack upgrade. In late October, we’ll be able to start playing a selection of Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis games on the Switch.

Nintendo 64 makes sense because it was the next main console sequentially after the NES and SNES. The Genesis, however, is a lot more surprising, as it wasn’t even a Nintendo console. That being said, it was a nice surprise to see that we’ll be able to play those games on NSO soon.

We already have information about what the launch N64 and Genesis games will include, as well as some that will be added to the service over time. NES and SNES games had been added over the course of time as well, so we expect the same will be true for these.

Here are 10 N64 and Genesis games (five from each console) that we hope will be added to Nintendo Switch Online before too long.

Hasbro’s New Games Division Has A G.I. Joe Game In Development

2 years 8 months ago

Hasbro will now be making video games alongside its myriad of toys. Magic: The Gathering maker Wizards of the Coast, which became a full-fledged division of Hasbro in February, has established a new game studio aimed at creating licensed titles based on Hasbro’s many properties, the first of which is a third-person G.I. Joe game currently in development.

Wizards of the Coast’s studio is based in North Carolina, dubbed the New Raleigh-Durham Studio. The team is led by WB Games veterans who have lent their talents to the Hitman and Batman Arkham franchises. New Raleigh-Durham Studio is currently hiring an art director, lead animator, lead game designer, and technical director, according to its job listing. The posting also describes the G.I. Joe title as a multiplatform action-adventure title made in Unreal Engine.

Yet another beefy trailer and launch date exploded out of Netflix's corner this weekend. Their upcoming animated series Arcane, set in the universe of Riot's League Of Legends, has gotten one of each. The new trailer down here digs into the dynamic between protagonist sisters Vi and Jinx. The release date, at least the first of them, is coming up pretty quick too, scheduled for November 6th.

Steam may be planning to restrict player access to old game builds

2 years 8 months ago

As they always do, things in Steam are likely to change again. Unlike Valve's Steam Labs experiments for storefront discoverability or downstream effects of the upcoming Steam Deck, this one is a little more under the hood. As spotted by the unaffiliated Steam tracking site SteamDB, the beta version of Steam's client now has a new method that is capable of preventing users from accessing former builds of games they own. The majority of players likely aren't pulling up old game builds often, if ever, but this change could make life a lot tougher for modders, speedrunners, and anyone trying to roll back a buggy game update while they wait for a hotfix.

Halo Infinite Datamine Offers Glimpse Of the Scorpion Tank And Lots Of Other Material

2 years 8 months ago

Halo infinite's second multiplayer tech preview was this past weekend, and as you could guess, dataminers dug through the game and uncovered a lot of interesting images, from vehicle attachments to Spartan poses and even a render of the Scorpion battle tank.

First spotted by Redditor marcopolo444, the user posted a series of links and images, which show off a ton of content that did not make it into the latest technical preview for Halo Infinite. The post suggests that a lot of content will make its way into Halo Infinite at some point. This includes a helmet attachment that adds a Santa Claus hat on your Spartan, three images of maps we have yet to see in the technical preview, and a series of emblems that seem to take inspiration from famous memes.

Twitch reportedly launching new security tools to combat hate raiding

2 years 8 months ago

Twitch is reportedly preparing to introduce a range of new features designed to help tackle the increasingly prevalent phenomenon of hate raiding, including the ability for streamers to restrict chat commenting to those users whose accounts have been through phone verification.

Twitch's controversial raid feature was originally designed as a positive community tool that would enable streamers to redirect all viewers currently watching their broadcast to a target channel as an "easy way to share audiences". However, malicious users quickly began exploiting the feature, setting up dummy accounts and bots to flood the chats of often marginalised streamers and subject them to doxing, harassment, and attack.

How To Beat Corrupt Toshi In Kena: Bridge Of Spirits

2 years 8 months ago

The final corrupted spirit you need to help pass over in Kena: Bridge of Spirits is Toshi, the former leader of the village at the center of the game. Toshi is a powerful fighter, mixing together many of the types of combatants you've faced before. He also nullifies some of your strategies--he'll block your arrows and bombs, rendering some of your best ranged attacks useless except in key situations. He's also tough up close, striking Kena with some powerful melee combos.

It is possible to counter and beat Toshi, though, provided you know what you're facing and when to hit him with the right attacks. This guide will help you recognize what Toshi is bringing to bear on you so you can defend, parry, and snipe your way to victory in Kena: Bridge of Spirits' toughest boss fight.

How To Beat The Hunter Boss In Kena: Bridge Of Spirits

2 years 8 months ago

The Hunter waits at the end of the Hunter's Path as you work your way through the relics for Toshi, the village leader, in Kena: Bridge of Spirits. Of the three bosses you'll face in this section of the game, this one will likely take the longest, thanks to the Hunter's ability to fly and dodge-heavy fighting style. Avoiding its long-range attacks is key, as is countering with the bow yourself--but if you know how to hit the boss, you can open it up for big damage and take the fight to him.

Unlike most other bosses, and similar to the others you'll face in this section of the game, the Hunter really only has one phase--which means if you get your tactics down early, you'll be able to handle the entire fight. The trick is recognizing and avoiding the Hunter's big attacks and taking advantage of the openings. Get used to trying to snipe the boss as much as possible, because you'll need a few good shots to his face in order to bring the fight to him.

How To Beat The Warrior Boss In Kena: Bridge Of Spirits

2 years 8 months ago

The boss at the end of the Warrior Path you'll take in search of Toshi's relics is the easiest of the three you'll fight in the village in Kena: Bridge of Spirits, but that doesn't mean you can get careless. The Warrior excels at close-quarters combat, so you'll have to shift your tactics away from getting an opening and swinging away; if you commit to mashing the attack button, the boss will block you and then counter for big damage.

Unlike most other bosses, though, the Warrior is more of a sub-boss than a main event, which means he doesn't have two phases like the others. This can still be a tough fight, but you should have an easier time than the ones guarding Toshi's other relics, the Mask Maker and the Hunter. Here's what you need to know to take down the Warrior and clear this section of the village.

How To Beat The Mask Maker Boss In Kena: Bridge Of Spirits

2 years 8 months ago

You've already defeated Corrupt Taro and Corrupt Woodsmith in Kena: Bridge of Spirits, but your toughest challenge lies ahead. To find the relics for the third spirit, Toshi, you'll have to explore the spirit realm throughout the village. This will put you on three different paths, and each culminates with a boss fight. Perhaps the toughest is the Mask Maker, who hits you with all sorts of tough-to-deal-with magic.

Luckily, the Mask Maker doesn't really have two phases like previous bosses--he just throws a lot of different moves at you throughout the fight, and picks up the pace toward the back half of the battle. Even still, you'll want to try to avoid taking damage as much as possible by using arrows to knock the Mask Maker out of his tougher attacks, and save those heals for when you really need them.

How to Customize Your PS5 Home Screen

2 years 8 months ago

While it still has a long way to go, Sony's PlayStation 5 is capable of a surprising amount of customization. New features have slowly begun trickling in, and thanks to a recent update, PS5 owners now have more options available to them for fine-tuning their gaming experience on the system. Much like the PS4, you can expect these features to expand in time, but for now, here's a look at what PS5 owners are capable of fine-tuning on the latest Sony console.

How to customize the Control Center

By pressing the PS button on your DualSense controller, you'll be able to access a number of shortcuts and menus related to your games, friends, and more. If you'd prefer to have some cards appear in a more prominent position, you can highlight a shortcut on the screen, press the options button on your controller, and you'll be given a list of icons. The default ones on your menu are:

  • Home
  • Switcher
  • Notifications
  • Game Base
  • Music
  • Downloads / Uploads
  • PlayStation VR
  • Sound
  • Mic
  • Accessories
  • Profile
  • Power

And there are three hidden icons that you can make more prominent:

  • Broadcast
  • Accessibility
  • Network

You can highlight the shortcuts that you want to use, rearrange them on the timeline or even remove a few of them to suit your tastes. If you'd prefer to simply avoid all of that, hold the PS button down longer and you'll be taken straight to your home screen.

How PS5 Backwards Compatibility Works

2 years 8 months ago

With the PlayStation 5, Sony has once again embraced backwards compatibility. A feature that the PS4 skipped out on, playing a game from the previous generation of PS4 is as easy as downloading the game or inserting the original game disc.

The added benefit with the PS5's backwards compatibility is that your catalog of games can take advantage of the console's bleeding-edge SSD to load quicker, while a large number of games are enhanced with better frame rates and graphics. Not every PS4 game works on the PS5 though, although the chances of anyone being upset that Afro Samurai 2 didn't make the cut are probably close to slim at best.

Which PS4 games aren't backwards compatible with PS5?

PS5 backwards compatibility

As revealed by Sony, the following handful of games won't work on the PS5:

  • DWVR
  • Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One
  • TT Isle of Man - Ride on the Edge 2
  • Just Deal With It!
  • Robinson: The Journey
  • We Sing
  • Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
  • Shadwen
  • Joe's Diner

With that small list established, here's how you can play 99% of the PS4's library on PS5.

Xbox Cloud Gaming Explained: Cost, Requirements, Features, And More

2 years 8 months ago

Years ago, "Xbox" referred only to Microsoft's traditional game consoles, which had exclusive games and a closed ecosystem. However, the company has a much different outlook on gaming today, and the Xbox brand now also includes PC games and, as of more recently, cloud gaming. A very convenient way to play Xbox Game Pass titles, Xbox Cloud Gaming allows anyone with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership to stream games directly to their devices, with no download or updates required, and the program is only getting bigger. We'll give you the rundown on what you need to know about Xbox Cloud Gaming, including how it's evolving in the future.

What is Xbox Cloud Gaming?

Unlike some other game-streaming services like PlayStation Now and Google Stadia, Xbox Cloud Gaming isn't actually a separate paid program from Microsoft. Instead, it's a feature included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, giving you access to a selection of games alongside the console and PC titles you're already given access to with your subscription fee.

PS Plus Free Games For October Reportedly Leaked

2 years 8 months ago

October's PlayStation Plus games have reportedly been leaked early. A notable leaker that revealed September's lineup early posted that October's free games will be Hell Let Loose for PS5, Mortal Kombat X for PS4, and PGA Tour 2K21 for PS4.

As reported by VGC, Billbill-kun on Dealabs accurately leaked the September PlayStation Plus lineup of Overcooked: All You Can Eat, Hitman 2, and Predator: Hunting Grounds, which are available to claim until October 4. Dealabs said that proof of the leak was submitted to and approved by moderators. PlayStation Plus games are typically revealed towards the end of a month or very early in the month, meaning Sony should reveal the titles soon.

The most notable game in the bunch is the 50-on-50 World War II shooter Hell Let Loose, which is set to release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 5. If the leak is accurate, it means that the game will be launching onto PlayStation Plus. Hell Let Loose is currently available for digital preorder on Xbox Series X|S but is not yet available for preorder on the PlayStation Store, possibly pointing to it launching on PS Plus.

Halo Infinite Beta: The Bones Are Good

2 years 8 months ago

Halo Infinite's first multiplayer beta, which used bots, was an important first step, but this past weekend's full-blown test of 4v4 Arena Slayer with actual PvP combat was the game's first true test--and it passed with flying colors. After playing in nearly every session this weekend, I found Halo Infinite to be the return to form that I had been hoping to see after I was left disappointed by Halo 5 (and Halo 4, for that matter). That being said, I still have some concerns and reservations about the offering ahead of its launch in December.

The Bones Are Good

Halo Infinite's multiplayer is in very good shape, with all of the important bases covered. After adopting the series from Bungie, 343 had the very difficult task of taking ownership of what is known as one of the best FPS experiences ever (on console, at least) and not only keeping that intact, but pushing the formula forward. 343 has succeeded, for the most part, in this respect with Halo Infinite.

The gunplay has that classic, Halo 3-like "weight," and it just simply feels good to snap off some precise rounds with the new Battle Rifle or to control the spray of the AR as you face an oncoming enemy. The Halo "combat dance" is intact in Halo Infinite's multiplayer, to be sure. The time-to-kill is long enough that you have a second chance to survive a firefight even if you get into it at a disadvantage (and this is aided even more so by new abilities like the Grappleshot, which I'll get to later). Halo has always been an FPS that emphasizes skill and strategy, and this ethos is brought forward in Halo Infinite, for sure.

PSA: Don't Delete Your Halo Infinite Multiplayer Beta Download

Halo Infinite's Arena Slayer multiplayer beta has wrapped up, but the Big Team Battle test is scheduled to commence in just a few days. As such, anyone who has already downloaded the Halo Infinite beta client should keep it installed, developer 343 Industries advised players.

"Keep that build installed, because this Friday we'll be diving back in," the studio said in a tweet. If you're short on hard drive space and need to delete it, that's fine, because you can re-download when the Big Team Battle beta begins on October 1.

Potential Halo Infinite Datamine Reveals Emblems, Weapon Charms, and Memes A-Plenty

2 years 8 months ago

The release of a new beta test or demo often results in a wave of datamined content. Halo Infinite is no exception, as miners have potentially unearthed a treasure trove of content from Halo Infinite's technical test over the weekend.

Reddit featured a thread of the supposed found content, revolving mostly around rewards like emblems, weapon charms, and special armor effects. Armor effects mined include a flaming helmet and a light-up mohawk, while some of the new weapon charms feature a strip of bacon, an Xbox Elite controller, and what looks like a Nerf dart.

While fiery helmets and charms made of food are great perks, the true meat of this leak comes from the emblems, which reference some of the internet's greatest memes. One sees a Grunt with cartoon eyes surrounded by fire, a nod to the comic featuring the "this is fine" dog. Another features Master Chief in a suit and tie with his hands in front of him, posing like the History Channel "aliens" meme.

Is John-117 short for "Johnson-117"? Has The Rock been under that helmet all along?

Top honors, however, go to the Master Chief dressed like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's infamous fanny pack photo, complete with dark sweater and gold chain. Whoever pitched this idea, should it be real, deserves a massive raise.

Diablo II: Resurrected Character Lockout Bug Is Still An Issue

2 years 8 months ago

Diablo II: Resurrected launched September 23--and in its first week since release, certain players are experiencing character lockouts, and others are also seeing their offline characters disappear or lose progress.

The character lockout error seems to be the system not registering that players have gone off the server, thus throwing up the following error message when players try to login again, "Failed to enter the game. This character is already in a game on this server. Please try again."

Blizzard attempted to fix both errors and other issues with a maintenance update on September 26, but it appears that certain characters still remain locked, judging by replies underneath the maintenance tweet and the continuous addition of new messages in bug report forum thread--an issue that Blizzard says it is looking further into and trying to address.

Fortnite Season 8 Art Seems To Hint At Return Of Tilted Towers

2 years 8 months ago

While Fortnite Chapter 2 brought with it many exciting features, there remains a passionate portion of the fanbase that is always hopeful for the return of the Chapter 1 map. While that doesn't seem likely anytime soon, Epic Games seems to be teasing the return of the original map's most beloved place of interest (POI): Tilted Towers.

Tilted Towers disappeared from the game at the end of Season X when the black hole swallowed up the Chapter 1 map, codenamed Athena, and birthed the Chapter 2 map, codenamed Apollo. Since then, players have anxiously searched for signs of its return, sadly to no avail--until now.

In a recent blog post on the Fortnite website, Epic included a piece of official artwork that shows some characters descending toward the island. Not only does it tease a new style for Renegade Raider, seen below with a new Halloween-ish turquoise hue, but look in the background and you'll see the beloved POI Tilted Towers is unmistakably there as well.

Epic's decision to include Tilted Towers in this image is no accident, but what does it suggest?

Tilted Towers was the favorite landing spot in Chapter 1 because it had the most loot and a great sense of verticality via its many pre-fab highrises, so even players who couldn't build well could get the height advantage on rivals.

FIFA 22 Review

2 years 8 months ago

With no alarms and no surprises, EA Sports has pumped out yet another incremental update to its football simulation series. FIFA 22’s graphical upgrades and new animation technology make the beautiful game feel better, with goals demanding a more deliberate and rewarding playstyle. Tiny tweaks also improve FIFA 22’s Career Mode and Volta Football ahead of a proper revamp. However, aside from those minor but largely positive changes, this is the same game in a new pair of pants – which means its microtransactions are just as eager as ever to get you to turn your pockets inside out.

David Beckham has ordered pancakes on a Parisian balcony. As the server slaps the plate down in front of him, you can see the individual blueberries jostle. The camera then pans down a floor, past rippling flags and flowerbeds to reveal you, the protagonist of FIFA 22, having a cheeky lie-in. Don’t worry; EA Sports hasn’t transformed its beloved football series into a JRPG (that would be far too interesting) but it’s just put together an absurdly lavish opening to try and convince all of us that this is the next generation of virtual football. Some of that Ultimate Team cash has to go somewhere right? Having made the leap to a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X for this year’s game, I quickly noticed the aesthetic facelift.

Venom 2: Carnage Explained - Who Is Woody Harrelson's Character?

2 years 8 months ago

Venom 2, a.k.a. Venom: Let There Be Carnage, finally arrives this week! But for the non-comics fans out there, some may be asking... who exactly is the very red, very scary symbiote bad guy in this movie?

It all started with Spider-Man's black alien costume in the comics, which betrayed him and wound up in the hands of his bitter rival Eddie Brock -- who became Venom. But it also spawned an even meaner and deadlier nemesis in the form of Carnage. This bloodthirsty sadist has racked up quite a body count over the years, and even the Avengers have been hard-pressed to bring him to justice.

And now the Woody Harrelson character (also known as Cletus Kasady) is finally getting his due on the big screen. With that in mind, here's everything you need to know about this symbiote psychopath...

Venom 2's Carnage Explained: The Basics

Carnage is basically the closest thing Spider-Man's rogues gallery has to a Joker. Most of Spidey's enemies have some tragic or redeeming qualities. Not Carnage. He's a force of nature who lives to kill, destroy and sow chaos. And he's not particular about the order in which he does so.

Cletus Kasady was already an accomplished criminal and sadist even before gaining superhuman powers. But after spending some time as Eddie Brock's cellmate and gaining a symbiote costume of his own, he's become one of the most proficient killers in the Marvel Universe. He's incredibly strong and very difficult to put down once the blood starts flowing. A mutual hatred of Carnage is about the only thing that can make Spider-Man and Venom put aside their differences and work towards a common goal.

Find a potion and you know exactly what experience you're in for. But how much time do you spend actually thinking about them, about their composition, about their cost? I don't expect it matters to you as long as you've got some healing potions sloshing around in your bag. How arrogant of you. Don't you ever stop to think about the stresses and strains of being the potion seller in town?

The Oculus Quest 2 Is the Best VR Headset for Beat Saber and It's on Sale Today

2 years 8 months ago

The Oculus Quest 2 has so far been the best value when it comes to VR gaming. It has phenomenal tracking, it doesn't need to be tethered to a PC, and it boasts a huge library of games. It's also the best VR headset to buy if you want to get into Beat Saber, one of the best VR games out there (as well as a fantastic exercising tool). The biggest reason to jump onto the VR bandwagon with a Quest 2, though, is the fact that it is hundreds of dollars cheaper than its competitors. The Quest 2 normally starts at $299.99. Oculus recently doubled the amount of storage on the base model (from 64GB to 128GB) and, for a limited time, they've sweetened the deal even more if you buy two.

Last Day to Buy an Oculus Quest 2, Get a 2nd for $100 Off at the Oculus Store

Today is the final day to take advantage of the Quest 2 promotion exclusive to the Oculus Store. If you buy an Oculus Quest 2 VR headset at the regular price of $299.99, you can get a second one for $100 off. The Oculus Quest 2 had always been an attractive purchase from a VR standpoint. As a comparison, the HP Reverb G2 and HTC Vive Cosmos cost $600 and the Valve Index costs $1,000.
