This Emotional Final Fantasy XIV Fan Film Will Make You Smile & Perhaps Cry a Little

2 years 8 months ago

Today ToiToi Pictures released a new fan-made film to celebrate the recent 8th anniversary of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

You may already know this group of Japanese filmmakers for their amazing “Play Eorzea” and “Tomorrows” videos on top of plenty more released on the ZANEKONPU YouTube Channel.

This time around, they came up with a 25 minutes short video titled “/emote” telling the story of a lalafell who doesn’t communicate via chat but instead expresses herself exclusively via emotes.

On top of coming with amazing quality for a fan production, it’s quite emotional and will likely make you smile and perhaps tear up a little as well.

It certainly underlines the value of online communities like Final Fantasy XIV, where people who may otherwise be considered a bit socially awkward can find their niche, make friends, and perhaps open up in ways they normally wouldn’t.

You can watch it below (and remember to activate English subtitles with the “CC” button), and I challenge you not to get at least a bit /emotional.

2K Wanted BioShock on Phones, Here's How One Dev Team Pulled it Off

2 years 8 months ago

The mid to late 2000s featured a particularly prevalent trend of extending a game’s reach by porting it to as many platforms as possible, regardless of whether or not those platforms were a good fit. Games like Need for Speed: Most Wanted, 007: Quantum of Solace, and Cars 2, alongside so many more, saw releases on consoles and PC, as expected, but also saw downgraded or drastically different versions hit handhelds like the PSP, Nintendo DS, and even mobile phones.

The trend hit a number of major console and PC games of the era. Perhaps, most surprisingly, the acclaimed first-person adventure BioShock saw the release of a mobile port known as BioShock 3D. Though there’s a tendency to wave away the handheld or mobile versions of console games like BioShock, its mobile development is a fascinating example of the work that went into such an adaptation. According to Tridev, the developers of BioShock 3D who spoke to IGN about its creation, such a port included any number of technical, creative, and bureaucratic challenges that demonstrate the difficulties of making a triple-A game run on a phone barely able to play Brick Breaker.

It's also wrapped in a post-apocalyptic story in which your actions will "change the fate of agriculture."

The Witcher: Vesemir Explained - Who Is Geralt's Mentor in Season 2

2 years 8 months ago

Season 2 of The Witcher kicks off in December, bringing a significant expansion of the show’s cast of characters and notable casting that includes Bridgerton’s Adjoa Andoh as the priestess Nenneke and Game of Thrones’ Kristofer Hivju as the cursed noble Nivellen.

One of the most significant new characters is Vesemir, who will be played by Kim Bodnia of Killing Eve (despite rumors at one point that the role would go to Mark Hamill). During Netflix’s Tudum presentation, the streaming giant released a new Witcher franchise trailer, with never-before-seen footage from Season 2, including our first up-close look at Bodnia’s portrayal of the famous Witcher.

Netflix has built anticipation for his appearance and provided viewers with a way to get to know the character better by giving him a starring role in the anime prequel The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, where a younger version of the character was voiced by Divergent’s Theo James.

But who is Vesemir, exactly? Read on or watch the video below or at the top of the page to learn more!

2 years 8 months ago

Type-moon released another trailer of its upcoming fighting game Melty Blood: Type Lumina, which will soon launch both in Japan and in the west.

While this trailer displays a full match with Kouma Kirishima vs Red Arcueid. In this particular battle, the former bests the latter and we’re likely to see the opposite soon.

You can check it out below.

Here’s how Type-Moon describes Red Arcueid:

“Due to the effects of coming back from a “certain accident,” her vampiric impulses and overwhelming desires have taken over.

Driven by instinct, she arrives in a lowly human city.

Controlled by pure emotion, her actions and words are quite dangerous, but her underlying personality remains mostly unchanged.

The only big difference is her increased selfishness and changed attitude toward humans.”

… And Kouma:

“Head of the Kishima clan, a branch of the Tohno family. He is half demon.
Even among mixed-bloods, his demon blood is strong, making him only barely human.
Usually very quiet, he chooses to live as a hermit in a remote area of the mountains where he seeks to achieve spiritual enlightenment.
