Halo Infinite Will Bring Back Old Motion Tracker-Style Radar Following Technical Preview Feedback

2 years 7 months ago

Halo Infinite will bring back the old motion tracker-style radar seen in Halo games before Halo 5 in light of feedback following the game's recent technical preview.

This news comes by way of a recent Halo Waypoint blog posted by 343 Industries breaking down all of the feedback the studio received during and following its recent technical preview, as reported by PC Gamer.

According to 343, most players missed the old properties of Halo radars, which differ from the game's current Combat Sensor that only displays enemy locations when they're sprinting or shooting a weapon.

"The Combat Sensor, or radar, that sits in the bottom left of your HUD follows a different set of rules than previous Halo titles," the blog post reads. "We knew this implementation was going to feel different, maybe even a little contentious, and that's why we wanted to get feedback on it as soon as possible in the Tech Preview."

343 continues in the blog post and says that some players appreciated the new radar approach, but that it found most players missed the old style of radar.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 now has cross-save between Steam and iPad

2 years 7 months ago

Is this iPad news we shouldn't be writing about, or is it PC news fit for a PC games website? I don't care. It's lying-in-my-bed, playing-cool-games news, and such joys cannot be limited by petty platform divides.

Your Divinity: Original Sin 2 saves are another thing which cannot be limited by petty platform divides. The iOS version of the game now has Steam Cross Save functionality, meaning you can move your progress in the RPG back and forth.

Horizon Forbidden West Will Now Have A Free Upgrade Between The PlayStation 4 And PlayStation 5 Versions

2 years 7 months ago

Two days after announcing there would be no upgrade between the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of Horizon Forbidden West, Sony is changing course and will now offer an upgrade for free. The announcement was made today on PlayStation Blog by Jim Ryan, the president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

In the statement, Ryan says "Thursday was to be a celebration of Horizon Fobidden West and the amazing team at Guerrilla working to deliver it on February 18, 2022. However, it's abundantly clear that the offerings we confirmed in our pre-order kickoff missed the mark."

The change comes after PlayStation fans highlighted comments Ryan made that the upgrade path between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 would be free. In a 2020 interview with the Washington Post's Launcher, Ryan said that Sony has "an upgrade path for PS4 users to get the PS5 versions for free" and that it's about "people having choice."

Sony U-turns on controversial Horizon Forbidden West PS4 to PS5 upgrade policy following backlash

2 years 7 months ago

Sony has issued a dramatic U-turn on its controversial Horizon Forbidden West PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 upgrade policy following a vociferous backlash.

Sony was heavily criticised after it confirmed Horizon Forbidden West's standard and special editions did not include Dual Entitlement, Sony's label for granting you both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the same game, after Sony had previously said it would offer free upgrades for its cross-gen launch titles.

In an update issued to the PlayStation Blog, Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Jim Ryan said its offers for Guerrilla's Horizon Forbidden West "missed the mark".

Cardboard Children: Descent - Legends Of The Dark

2 years 7 months ago

Hello youse. My name is Rab Florence, and for six years I would land my jetpack here on RPS every week to tell all of you PC gamers about board games. Four years ago my jetpack exploded, separating my head from my body and traumatising the spectators below, meaning that I had to retire my column on account of me having, well, nae heid. But I have returned from the cardboard grave to regale you with a tale of high adventure in Descent: Legends of the Dark.

I thought this new board game would be a perfect thing to talk to you all about, because it's not really a board game at all. Well, it is. But you can't play it without using an app, on your phone or your tablet or – yes – your actual PC! So it's actually a PC game! With a board. Because it’s a board game. Except it isn't. Apart from when it is.
