Playing Isklander, a stay-at-home immersive theatre experience

2 years 8 months ago

Where is Ivy Isklander? That's the question on my neighbour's lips. We're on a video call, and she - the elderly neighbour - is worried. She's worried young Ivy has gotten herself into trouble. She's worried Ivy was mixed up in something bad. Can I help look into it? Sure, but what does she want me to do? Knock on her door? I'm a bit taken aback when she tells me she wants me to hack into Ivy's email account.

How would you do that (forget the 'would you?' for a moment)? Where would you look for clues, for things someone might care about enough to use as a password? Of course! Where else? Social media.

So I go to Facebook to search for Ivy Isklander and to my surprise, she's there. I find her profile and start looking through her life, which feels as weird as it sounds. I even send her a message asking if she's okay, but she doesn't respond. But I do find what I'm looking for: a photo and a caption on it - a name. I use it as the password and all of a sudden I'm in.

The Demon Slayer Anime Returns this Fall, With 5 Specials to Air Before Then

2 years 8 months ago

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is one of the most popular anime series out right now, alongside other big hitters like Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan. The first season of the anime was a huge hit, and the Infinity Train movie aired last year, becoming the highest earning movie of 2020.

It’s just been announced that the anime series will be making a return during the fall and winter anime seasons this year, and it’ll cover the Entertainment District arc from the original manga. In addition to that, five special episodes will be released before then, recapping some key events from the first season:

  • The Sibling’s Bond – Sept. 11
  • Asakusa Arc – Sept. 12
  • Tsuzumi Mansion Arc – Sept. 18
  • Mt. Natagumo Arc – Sept. 19
  • The Hashira Meeting/Butterfly Mansion Arc – Sept. 23

The Demon Slayer series follows the story of Tanjirou Kamado, who resolves to rid the world of evil demons when his sister, Nezuko, is attacked by one and transforms into a demon herself. The series is primarily known for its fast-paced, and exciting action scenes with great choreography, and the anime itself succeeds at bringing the manga’s action to life.

Best M82 loadout in Warzone Season 5

2 years 8 months ago

Looking for the best M82 loadout in Warzone? This hard-hitting semi-automatic Sniper Rifle hearkens back to the Barret .50s of the original Modern Warfare trilogy and is a ton of fun in Warzone. It fills an entirely unique niche in the Sniper Rifle class, splitting the difference in bullet velocity between extreme range kings like the ZRG and faster-handling weapons like the Swiss K31.

However, the M82 is also semi-automatic, which makes it a touch more forgiving than any of these alternatives. With one-shot potential and quick follow-ups to missed headshots, the M82 is perhaps the most underrated Sniper Rifle in Warzone. If you want to give it try and see for yourself, this guide will give you all the knowledge you need to take on Verdansk.

Tripwire boss steps down after heavily-criticised Texas anti-abortion law tweet

2 years 8 months ago

The boss of Tripwire Interactive has stepped down after he said he was "proud" a draconian Texas anti-abortion law was allowed to stand.

Last week John Gibson, president of the Chivalry 2, Killing Floor and Maneater publisher, tweeted to say he "felt it was important to go on the record as a pro-life game developer".

Texas' new anti-abortion law took effect last week after a nod from the US supreme court. It allows anyone anywhere to sue anyone connected to an abortion in which cardiac activity was detected in the embryo: as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, before most women even realise they are pregnant.

One of the Key Engineers Behind God of War's Leviathan Axe Has Died

2 years 8 months ago

George Mawle, a former gameplay engineer at Sony Santa Monica described as one of the "fathers" of God of War's much-loved Leviathan Axe, sadly died on September 2.

Mawle worked at Sony Santa Monica as a programmer during the studio's work on the 2018 PS4 exclusive, God of War. His work on the game's signature Leviathan Axe, as well as a number of other gameplay features, will be remembered by fans and co-workers for years to come. Sony Santa Monica creative director Cory Barlog described Mawle as "an amazingly funny, smart and warm human being. He was one of the fathers of the Leviathan feel. Without his curiosity and intellect those moments of pure joy recalling the axe would never have existed. "

Studio lead combat designer Mihir Sheth worked with Mawle during his time at Sony Santa Monica and was just one of many who paid tribute to the late engineer on social media.

In a thread on Twitter, Sheth explained, "If you've ever enjoyed throwing & recalling the Leviathan Axe, or twirling the chains of the Blades of Chaos in GOW'18, please take a moment to recognize that it was possible in large part to the engineering and energy of George Mawle."

Kingdoms of Amalur's new DLC Fatesworn still coming, developer says

2 years 8 months ago

Fatesworn, the new expansion for last year's Kingdoms of Amalur remaster, is still in production and almost done.

That's according to developer Kaiko, who today released a screenshot of the DLC while it is "wrapping up the final stages of production".

Kingdoms of Amalur first released for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2012 to decent reviews but poor sales and a messy legal situation. Eight years later, publisher THQ Nordic released its Re-Reckoning remaster for PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. And that brings us right up to date.

Alan Wake Remastered Officially Announced, Meaning a Sequel Could Be on the Way

2 years 8 months ago

Remedy has announced a full remaster of its cult classic Alan Wake, due to arrive this fall on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC (via Epic Games Store). Perhaps more excitingly, it opens the door more than ever for Alan Wake 2 to come down the line.

After a leak last week, Remedy and publisher Epic announced that Alan Wake Remastered would come with both of the game's expansions, allow for 4K resolution, and will include a new commentary from creative director Sam Lake. No official release date has been announced, but the previous retailer leaks have pointed to October 5.

Lake himself wrote about the remaster on Alan Wake/Remedy fansite The Sudden Stop, beginning his letter by writing "this is for you". He confirmed that the game was almost complete, and that it is "the original experience you fell in love with all those years ago. We did not want to change that. But the visuals all around, including the character model of Alan Wake himself and the cinematics, have been updated and improved with some choice next-generation upgrades."

The announcement of the remaster will undoubtedly see fans getting excited about a long-awaited sequel. When Remedy partnered with Epic Games, the developer was said to be working on two games from the franchise – one was a "AAA multi-platform game", and the other a "smaller-scale project". It feels very likely that Alan Wake Remastered is the smaller project, leaving a full Alan Wake 2 more possible than ever.
