9 Years Of Shadows is a metroidvania with a ghostly teddy and a stacked soundtrack

2 years 8 months ago

9 Years Of Shadows is an in-development metroidvania which features music from Michiru Yamane, Manami Matsumae, and Norihiko Hibino, who worked on Castlevania, Mega Man and Metal Gear Solid respectively. This doesn't excite me, but I mention it in case it's appealing to you.

What does excite me is that 9 Years Of Shadows otherwise looks fab, due to richly detailed pixel art, glittering world design, and a sidekick that appears to be a teddy bear ghost.

World Of Warcraft is removing Blizzard developer names, too

2 years 8 months ago

The Overwatch development team announced on Thursday that they would rename cowboy McCree later this year. The change is due to the name's association with former Blizzard developer Jesse McCree, who left the company after a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard alleging workplace sexual harassment and discrimination. McCree is not specifically named in the lawsuit.

Now the World Of Warcraft team have announced similar changes, with rerences to former Blizzard employees due to be removed in a future update.

Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon Gets New Trailer Showing Anime Opening Cutscene By Ufotable

2 years 7 months ago

Today Type-Moon released a new trailer of its latest visual novel Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon, remake of the legendary Tsuhihime.

The trailer showcases the opening cutscene animated by Ufotable, adorned by the theme song “Seimei-sen” which translates as “Lifeline,” performed by popular Japanese singer ReoNa.

Of course, it’s also a good chance to introduce the cast, which will certainly be familiar to many fans of the original.

If you’re unfamiliar with Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon, it was originally an eroge released for Windows in December 2000 by Type-Moon, the creators of the Fate series. It was then adapted in 2003 into an anime series titled Shingetsutan Tsukihime.

It also inspired the Melty Blood fighting game series, and that’s also getting a new game, Melty Blood: Type Lumina.

Written by the extremely prolific Kinoko Nasu, it’s considered the predecessor of that Fate/stay night that spawned the super-popular Fate franchise. The similarities are certainly quite visible.

September's PS Plus games have leaked online

2 years 7 months ago

UPDATE 1/9/21: Following this weekend's leaked PlayStation Plus line-up for September, Sony has made the news official - and PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to download all three previously revealed titles from Tuesday, 7th September.

First up is the PS5 edition of Overcooked: All You Can Eat - which technically counts as two games in one, given that it bundles together the original Overcooked, its sequel, and all DLC - followed by PS4 versions of asymmetrical multiplayer shooter Predator: Hunting Grounds and developer IO Interactive's superb stealth sequel Hitman 2.

As a reminder, August's PlayStation Plus offerings - Hunter's Arena: Legends, Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, and Tennis World Tour 2 - are available until 6th September.

Stop! Go! Die! Traffic Jams VR is kind of fun but only if you play it like a jerk

2 years 7 months ago

Slapstick VR game Traffic Jams finally released on PSVR this week after being available on PC and Oculus since September last year.

Traffic Jams puts players in the crisp white gloves of a trainee traffic controller who must guide pedestrians and motor vehicles safely through a variety of busy intersections from around the world.

It's a bright, cartoony and quite comical take on the simulator genre but it's safe to say that I grew tyre-d of its one note gameplay pretty quickly.

Japan Has The Perfect Gadget For Those Who Love Snacking While Gaming

2 years 7 months ago

Japan is famous for many things including its rich culture, video games, anime, delicious food, and gadgets.

Another relevant Japanese tradition is cleanliness, and that’s why many in the country often use traditional chopsticks when they eat snacks like potato chips, popcorn, or similar foodstuff.

This is actually very common while gaming, as it helps people keep the oil and crumbs away from their controllers.

A local company named B´full released a “Gaming Chpisticks Holder.”

According to the company’s advertisement, the gadget can be held between your fingers while you game both on consoles and smartphones, and doesn’t get in your way.

It’s made in acrylic resin and it’s very light, weighing only 6 grams. It’s designed to let you attach chopsticks to it, including the common disposable ones, so you can pick up your chips while grinding on your favorite JRPG and keep your fingers and controller clean at the same time.

The Gaming Chopsticks Holder is already available in Japan and it costs 1,210 yen including taxes, which translates to approximately $11.

Below you can check out a few promotional images, directly from the press release.

Incidentally, I use chopsticks all the time when snacking and gaming at the same time. While I can’t vouch for this product in particular, chopsticks are indeed great for the purpose.

This Devil May Cry Dante statue costs over £3000

2 years 7 months ago

Love Devil May Cry? Got a spare £3000 kicking about? Treat yourself to this half-scale statue of Dante.

As spotted by Siliconera, the statue - released to honour the franchise's 20th anniversary - is a three-dimensional, "real-life quality" vision of Dante. It's expected to ship between November 2022 and February 2023, and the hefty cover price does not include shipping or customs/import tax fees.

Created by Prime1 studio, the 43-inch tall, pint-sized Dante boasts artificial hair - which includes an alternate silicon head - a silicon body for that, uh, "lifelike" skin, and a full outfit, including his iconic red leather coat. Each one will be hand-finished, so prospective buyers are told to expect some "individual differences" between models.

Fall Guys introduces a "No Teams" playlist

2 years 7 months ago

Fall Guys, Mediatonic's knockabout battle royale game, has reintroduced its "No Teams" playlist for players who prefer to go solo than duke it out as a team.

The change comes because of "unprecedented" complaints from players who are frustrated by rounds that require teamwork, presumably because - and I know this from personal experience - there's a small but pervasive underclass of players that thinks it's funny to mess about and throw the round.

"There has been unprecedented complaints regarding levels in which you compete as part of a unit," reports Beanbot on the game's hugely popular Twitter account. "Duly, we have reinstated a playlist called 'No Teams'.

Bungie disables Destiny 2 armour after Titans and Hunters get "unintentional" competitive advantages

2 years 7 months ago

Bungie has "temporarily disabled" the Destiny 2's Radiant Dance Machines leg armour in all PvP and Gambit activities.

Confirmation came way of a tweet from the Destiny 2 studio, which acknowledged the armour permitted Hunters to dodge "an unintended amount of times", including during competitive matches in its Gambit and Crucible playlists.

"Due to an issue that allows Hunters to dodge an unintended amount of times in a row, we have temporarily disabled the Radiant Dance Machines Exotic Hunter leg armor in Gambit and all PvP activities," the studio said.

Death Stranding sequel is reportedly "in negotiations"

2 years 7 months ago

Death Stranding and The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus has reportedly confirmed that a Death Stranding sequel is "in negotiations".

Though Reedus didn't give away too much in the Portuguese interview - and auto-translations can sometimes be inaccurate, meaning we can only take this as a rumour for now - IGN Brasil reports he said he "thinks" a second Death Stranding is on the way.

"I think we're doing a second Death Stranding," Reedus told AdoroCinema, which is a partner site of IGN Brasil. "[Death Stranding 2] is in negotiations right now. So... yay!" Reedus reportedly said to journalists at a recent The Walking Dead roundtable.

Wow, I Still Haven't Bought A Physical PS5 Game

2 years 7 months ago

So here’s something strange: It’s been nearly 10 months since the PS5 launched and I have yet to buy or even hold a physical PS5 game. I have plenty of PS5 games, sure, but they are all digital. Compared to every previous console I’ve owned, this feels so weird. But it’s not too surprising, either.
