Evil Dead: The Game Delayed To 2022, Single-Player Mode Announced

2 years 8 months ago

In a year rife with delays, Evil Dead: The Game has hopped atop the growing pile. Although the adaptation of the popular film and TV franchise never had a concrete release date, it was projected to launch sometime later this year. That’s no longer the case, as developer Saber Interactive announced on Twitter that it will now launch the game in February 2022.

As reported by GameSpot, the announcement states that the team needs extra time to give Evil Dead the polish it deserves. Saber also states that they’ll use the time to work on a newly revealed single-player mode. Up to this point, Evil Dead has been presented as an asynchronous multiplayer horror game in the vein of Dead by Daylight. Players take control of iconic characters such as Ash to work together to take on player-possessed monsters. Single-player will allow players to enjoy the game without buddies in tow, but Saber didn’t divulge further details. However, the studio did tell fans to expect new character updates, a new gameplay video featuring Cambell, and pre-order information in the near future.

That Time Konami Made A Game About Fat-Shaming A Penguin

2 years 8 months ago

On its surface, Yume Penguin Monogatari seems like a standard, early ‘90s NES platformer. It features a lovable hero, colorful environments, and a catchy, chiptune soundtrack from the old masters at Konami. But beneath all that, this classic side-scroller is also so bluntly, nakedly fatphobic that I couldn’t help but…

Ubisoft's extreme sports game Riders Republic starts beta later this month

2 years 8 months ago

Ubisoft's "mass multiplayer outdoor extreme sports game" Riders Republic will begin its previously announced beta later this month on 23rd August.

Riders Republic is something of a spiritual successor to Ubisoft's under-appreciated winter sports effort Steep, but while that game focussed exclusively on snowy pursuits, Riders Republic encompasses a broader range of activities, including biking and wing suit action (both vanilla and jet-powered) alongside skiing and snowboarding.

Players can experience Riders Republic's world - which is stitched together from seven iconic US national parks: Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Grand Teton, Mammoth Mountain, Sequoia Park, Yosemite Valley, and Zion - both solo and co-operatively. However, Ubisoft is heavily pushing the game's large-scale competitions, which include races with upward of 50 players.

Hands on with Back 4 Blood's open beta campaign

2 years 8 months ago

Back in 2020 Turtle Rock, developers of the original Left 4 Dead and more lately the asymmetrical multiplayer game Evolve, revealed the existence of Back 4 Blood. It's a game where four players can engage in co-op PvE against zombies or PvP against other players. It is not Left 4 Dead 3, but because my ideas aren't owned by Valve, I think I can safely say after an early peek at its open beta campaign that it is, to all intents and purposes, Left 4 Dead 3. But more.

The Rally Point: we need to talk about overwatch

2 years 8 months ago

Ordinarily with games, something grabs me, I become dangerously obsessed with it to the exclusion of all else, and then suddenly abandon it for no reason a fortnight later.

That hasn't happened lately. I have, however, been playing Stirring Abyss, and in the interests of being fair, I must make it clear upfront that I've enjoyed it, and my choosing not to go into detail about it shouldn't be taken as a mark against the game itself. With that said, I want to thank it for prompting me to raise a longstanding grievance I have with turn-based tactical games: We have a problem, friends, and that problem is overwatch.

Newest Sonic Colors: Ultimate Trailer Shines Light on Colorful Wisps

2 years 8 months ago

Following the first spotlight trailer focusing on Sonic Colors: Ultimate’s sizable graphical upgrades, SEGA has revealed its second Sonic Colors: Ultimate spotlight trailer.

This time around the trailer focuses on the Wisps — mysterious alien beings which grant Sonic various abilities. Each of the nine Wisp varieties has a different use. Utilizing them is important, as they enable Sonic to access new areas of levels, defeat enemies more easily, and find those elusive Red Rings hidden in each level.

Such Wisps featured in the trailer include the White Wisp, which is one that grants Sonic the ability to boost into foes and potential roadblocks at an incredible speed, utterly destroying them in the process.

There is also the Cyan Wisp, which turns Sonic into a penetrating laser that can be used not only to bounce off walls and crystalline objects, but also simultaneously shock enemies.

Particularly of note and new to the Ultimate version of Sonic Colors is the Jade Wisp, which transforms Sonic into a floating Jade Ghost, capable of hovering through the air and passing through solid walls.

To catch these Wisps — as well as the other seven — in action, you can watch this all-new Sonic Colors: Ultimate Wisp spotlight trailer.

Breath of the Wild Player Shows off Amazing Zeus-Like Fight Compilation

2 years 8 months ago

In Breath of the Wild, there are many different ways to defeat your enemies. Link can get up close and personal with melee weapons, pepper them from afar with bows or even use tactics to try and put them in scenarios that could kill them without you having to lift a finger.

None of those combat approaches can compare to the style and flash that one Breath of the Wild player was able to pull off, as you can see below.

In their post to the Breath of the Wild Subreddit, user DuplexLink showed off all of the amazing fight scenes they were able to have in the game while also getting struck by lightning. Now, you can see that the strikes don’t really do all too much to add to the overall damage, especially when fighting tanks like Lynel, but there is no denying how awesome it looks.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Venice Marco Polo Airport Announced; Alicante Gets New Screenshots

2 years 8 months ago

Third-party developers had a couple of interesting reveals to make about new airports for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Beautiful Model of the World announced Venice Marco Polo Airport (LIPZ) in Italy.

It’s the main airport serving the super-popular Italian city and tourist destination, so it’s definitely a relevant addition to the simulator, especially considering the beautiful photogrammetry that is already included for the city itself.

This airport won’t be sold separately but will be included in the one-time payment required to access all of the developer’s airports, including Genoa and many more. Considering that it’s €24 for a rather sizable and growing number of scenery add-ons, I’d say that’s at the very least an interesting proposition.

You can see a few screenshots below. At the moment there is no release date besides a “coming soon.”

Evil Dead: The Game Gets Delayed to February 2022

2 years 8 months ago

Those looking to stepping into the world of Evil Dead will have to wait a bit longer, as Evil Dead: The Game has been delayed. Developer Saber Interactive and publisher Boss Team Games announced that the upcoming survival horror game is getting pushed to February 2022.

In the post above, the team details that the reason for the delay is so that they can have extra time to create the “ultimate Evil Dead experience you’re all waiting for.” What exactly that means outside of polishing the game up has yet to be determined.

New Guardians Of The Galaxy Trailer Shows Drax Flirting With Lady Hellbender

2 years 8 months ago

Click to watch embedded media

Eidos-Montréal’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was Game Informer’s June cover story. We spent weeks talking to developers about the RPG mechanics, branching dialogue, and comic book action. More exciting footage was shown worldwide during E3 this summer, as well as a gameplay demo chock-full of third-person exploration and explosive combat. A new trailer dropped today, introducing Lady Hellbender. What’s more, the hulking warrioress spends a good portion of the cinematic flirting with the incredibly dry-humored Drax.

Lady Hellbender is the queen of Seknarf Nine and a monster collector. At the start of the cutscene, which you can watch above, she’s talking to a potential seller. Her next clients, the titular Guardians, arrive to talk but, instead, watch as the seller is torn apart by his own auctioned creature, the dreaded Tara-tara. When Hellbender comes face-to-face with Drax, it becomes apparent to everyone in the arena that his legendary reputation precedes him. Needless to say, the flirtatious conversation between Drax and Hellbender isn’t the crudest out there, but it’s definitely cringey (and humorous!).

Brand New Destiny 2 PvP Maps And Modes Are On The Way, Including A Remastered Destiny 1 Map

2 years 8 months ago

Destiny 2 players have been begging for any news about new PvP content, especially with the recent overhaul to balancing within modes like Crucible and Trials of Osiris. With the Witch Queen expansion on the horizon and Season of the Splicer coming to a close, Destiny 2 assistant game director Joe Blackburn just gave Guardians everywhere a little Light (puns) at the end of the tunnel regarding new PvP maps and new modes.

Blackburn took to Twitter with a lengthy thread ahead of a showcase detailing season 15 and the Witch Queen expansion later this month. In the thread, he provided some insight into what Bungie has currently planned for Destiny 2 PvP, including the return of vaulted maps and the return of a Destiny 1 favorite.

Golf Club Wasteland landed on our radar for its intriguing blend of arcade-style golf set amid the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic Earth. If you’ve been waiting until the end of August to hit drives over the vestiges of the human race, you can now circle September 3 on your calendar.

The game comes from Demagog Studio and imagines a not-too-farfetched future where corporations have depleted Earth of its resources and the wealthy elite have fled to Mars. Occasionally, however, the survivors grow nostalgic and revisit the remains of their home planet. You control one such person, who chooses to relive his Earthly years by playing a few rounds of golf. With every hole you play, you’ll uncover the causes of humanity’s near-extinction while also jamming out to the laid-back tunes and talk shows of a Mars radio broadcast. The big Back 4 Blood interview: environmental storytelling, always online, and the new card system

2 years 8 months ago

Perhaps one of the most anticipated games since its unveiling at The Game Awards last year, Back 4 Blood, developed by the makers of Left 4 Dead, marks a return to a lost era. Turtle Rock Studios has been explicit in saying that it has been disappointed by releases in the zombie shooter genre in the past decade, so it has come back to the genre do it itself. And while it has also been explicit about the fact that this is a new IP, the studio has not shied away from the game's familiarity with its spiritual predecessor and its formula.

The game was delayed in March, from 22nd June to 12th October, giving the team more time to finish it off. It was also revealed Back 4 Blood will be on Xbox Game Pass on day one and will be always online. An open beta is also set to be launched on 12th August, with early access available right now for those who pre-ordered.

I had the opportunity to try out the beta with Eurogamer's video team and have a chat with Chris Ashton, co-founder and design director at Turtle Rock Studios. I asked him about storytelling, Xbox Game Pass, the new card system, Left 4 Dead's legacy, and more.

Here's everything revealed as part of Sony's PlayStation Indie Spotlight event

2 years 8 months ago

Sony's been having a bit of an indie shindig over on the PlayStation Blog, ushering in seven announcements and reveals that might just leave PS4 and PS5 owners slightly aquiver. And if you missed them, you'll find everything gathered up into one convenient digest below.

Adam Robinson-Yu's much-loved open-world exploration game A Short Hike, in which a small bird goes on a brief but thoroughly delightful mountain-climbing adventure, is coming to PlayStation consoles some time this autumn. We liked this one a lot when it released for PC back in 2019 - Christian Donlan called it "dreamy brilliance" in his Essential review - so it's definitely one to keep an eye out for.

Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals, the sequel to developer Night School Studio's deliciously eerie 2016 narrative adventure, is also confirmed to be coming to PlayStation consoles. It's set to feature an "entirely new" cast of characters - players control Riley Poverly as she investigates strange electromagnetic signals in her home town of Camena - while retaining, as Night School puts it, "the weird, heartfelt, and personalised experience of the original". Previous word suggested Oxenfree 2 will launch later this year.

Move over Back 4 Blood, here comes Bubble Bobble 4 Friends

2 years 8 months ago

Does Back 4 Blood let you blow a giant bubble around a zombie and then pop it to defeat it? I doubt it. Bubble Bobble 4 Friends would seem, therefore, to be the superior game.

Taito's 2019 revival of the classic arcade series is now making the leap to PC. It's been retitled Bubble Bobble 4 Friends: The Baron's Workshop and includes a level editor, and it'll launch on Steam sometime this summer.

This 165Hz 1440p MSI gaming monitor is down to £298

2 years 8 months ago

The MAG272CQR is one of MSI's best monitors, hitting the current spec sweet spot - 27-in, 1440p, 165Hz. It debuted at £400 last year, but now it's down to £100 less than that on Amazon UK - just £298.97, if you want to be exact. The price on this monitor has changed a fair bit over the last few months, ranging from £329 to £379, but it's a low price we haven't seen the likes of for some time.

WD's great value SN550 NVMe SSD is down to £175 for 2TB

2 years 8 months ago

The WD Blue SN550 is one of our favourite SSDs, and holds our current slot for the 'best budget NVMe SSD'. That's an important category too, as it offers a taste of the incredible speed offered by NVMe SSDs while costly just a fraction more than substantially slower SATA SSDs. Today, the largest capacity SN550 WD make, the 2TB model, is down to £175, around £50 cheaper than it's been for the last month and only a few pounds over an all-time low price.

An expert guide to Back 4 Blood's new zombie classes, which I have definitely not made up on the spot

2 years 8 months ago

Ten years ago, I went through a brief but intense stint of being well into Left 4 Dead. I was absolutely appalling at it, and I don't think I ever truly grasped what was going on in a single match I played. Nevertheless, I was at least so enthusiastic in my bewilderment that I was eventually taken on by a clan, grudgingly, as a sort of court jester. Everyone knew that playing with me was basically a death sentence. But my towering overconfidence whenever I got to play as the Charger - and then the barks of hapless sorrow which inevitably followed, as I sent them hooning straight out of a skyscraper window - were apparently just amusing enough to make me worth carrying.

In the spirit of my barnstorming PvP days, then, I am going to give you some weapons-grade tactical insight into the new mega zombos, or "Riddens", appearing in Left 4 Dead's upcoming spiritual successor, Back 4 Blood. Admittedly, I've not played the game yet. I've not even watched the footage from my colleagues who have played (and you can find their full Back 4 Blood open beta report right here). But that's not going to stop me telling you exactly what these exciting new deadoes are about, or how you can leverage their abilities to win every single time you play its humans vs zombies PvP mode. I am going to offer my analysis based purely on a cursory glance at each monster's concept art, my staggering powers of intuition, and nothing else. Hope you're ready to learn.

Back 4 Blood's PvP Versus mode has too many hiding places for humans

2 years 8 months ago

I had a grand old time blasting through the open beta of Back 4 Blood's campaign mode earlier this week, and I'm pretty sure everyone from Left 4 Dead diehards to complete newbies like myself will have an equally fun romp with it when the open beta starts for real on August 12th. What I'm less confident about, though, is whether people will be saying the same thing about the game's PvP Versus mode, which will also be available to try in the open beta when it comes out next week.

Due to some technical difficulties during our hands-on preview session, I was the only RPS squad member who actually made it into a PvP match, so most of my experience is based on playing with strangers, which we all know is never as good as playing with a proper group of mates. However, even if you do end up playing Back 4 Blood Versus with friends, the 4v4 maps I got to play definitely felt like they gave the human team a much bigger advantage than the side playing as part of the game's zombie horde. With games spread over three rounds, effectively consisting of six runs at the same objective - stay alive longer than the other team - I wonder whether it will have enough staying power to keep players coming back for more once the campaign's done and dusted.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War to Add Among Us-Like Double Agent Mode

2 years 8 months ago

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is getting a new mode for free called Double Agent in its fifth season, starting Aug. 12, that seems inspired by Among Us. In it, a group of 10 players will receive different roles and one of them will be an impostor, a double agent, trying to sabotage the mission.

Among the players, one of them will be an Investigator, which will have clues to follow and determine who’s the Double Agent. Once he does, a Wanted Order can be placed on the person and the other Operatives can try to eliminate the Double Agent. The Investigator will have access to footprints, like in the usual “Tracker” perk, along with gear like Trophy Systems, Stimshots, and Hand Cannons, familiar to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players.

As the Double Agent, the user will have to eliminate other operatives with stealth takedowns or sabotage the whole mission by placing explosive charges around the map. You also get Gas Mines, Counter Spy Planes, Combat Bows, Attack Helicopters, and a special protection from the radiation from the explosives.

Back 4 Blood Could Be Just What Left 4 Dead Fans Need (Hands-On Preview)

2 years 8 months ago

Back 4 Blood is an upcoming first-person multiplayer shooter that has been coined the spiritual successor to the Left 4 Dead series, and it’s easy to see why: the similarity of the titles’ names, the story about four survivors trying to escape while fighting against endless waves of zombies, and most importantly, the fact that it is being developed by the original creators of Valve’s franchise, Turtle Rock Studios.

Twinfinite was recently granted access to play the beta before the early access beta starting today, Aug. 5. Our demo consisted of two Swarm matches and the first act of the campaign.

The War of Attrition That Is Swarm Mode

The game’s player versus player (PvP) mode, Swarm, pits four humans, called the “Cleaners,” against four creatures, called the “Ridden,” in an enclosed area to see how long the humans can survive against waves of enemies. It is a round-based mode switching between the two sides, and the team that survives the longest as the humans takes the round before moving to a different map for a best out of three.

Playing Swarm for the first time without playing the campaign was incredibly daunting as there was a lot of information to take in as the round began. My team started as the Ridden and started off by picking one of three classes with three creatures to choose from. Each class has three creatures which can all be upgraded in various ways with mutation points earned by doing damage and incapacitating Cleaners. There is also a fourth class that simply upgrades the common AI zombies with perks such as adding armored enemies or increasing their strength.

Axiom Verge 2 Gets Epic Trailer Showcasing New Mechanics & More

2 years 8 months ago

If you’ve been hankering for a new retro-styled Metroidvania to tide you over this winter, then Thomas Happ’s Axiom Verge 2 may fit the bill nicely. And we now have a brand new trailer for the game courtesy of a new post on the PlayStation Blog that went live earlier today.

Specifically, the new trailer showcases a plethora of new sci-fi weapons, dimension-hopping mechanics, monstrous beasties and a pretty cool drone gadget that can help you explore every nook and cranny of Axiom Verge 2’s futuristic 2D landscapes. Feel free to check out said trailer down below:

As you can see, the core of Axiom Verge’s moment-to-moment 2D Metroidvania gameplay remains unchanged, but there’s a lot of neat new additions to keep fans of the 8-bit retro platformer happy.

In fact, Thomas Happ — the sole creator who wrote, coded and composed the music for Axiom Verge and its sequel — said in today’s blog post that he’s had to “push the boundaries” of what he’s creating to really maintain his passion for his follow-up. In other words, just throwing together a new map layout and creating some new weapons, and calling it a sequel wouldn’t be enough for him creatively.

Platinum Games Resurrects An Over 30-Year-Old Series With Sol Cresta

2 years 8 months ago

Platinum Games' chief game designer, Hideki Kamiya, penned a PlayStation blog post today unveiling an unexpected sequel to Moon Cresta and Terra Cresta, called Sol Cresta. Kamiya, known for his work on Devil May Cry, Okami, Resident Evil 2, and more, will helm the project as creative director. You read that correctly; Platnium Games is carrying on the series left dormant since the eighties. There is even an announcement trailer to prove it.

Initially developed by Nichibutsu, Moon Cresta and Terra Cresta were vertical-scrolling arcade games where the player takes the captain's seat aboard a starship. In shoot 'em up fashion, players flew through the galaxy defending humanity from destruction. It seems like the upcoming successor has taken several elements from the original titles. Kamiya emphasizes that the game will let players dock with allies, just like the titles did 36 years ago.

Wytchwood Tells A Fairy Tale This Fall

2 years 8 months ago

Alientrap has already proven its flexibility in genres through games like Apotheon and Cryptark, both of which offered stylistically novel takes on platforming and shooting, respectively. The studio is now turning its attention to a new crafting and adventure game called Wytchwood, and players can expect to see the results when it releases later this fall.

Detailed in a post on PlayStation Blog, Wytchwood puts you in the weathered old shoes of a swamp witch, whose potions and spells may be deployed to solve any number of problems. The witch in question has made what seems like an ill-advised dark pact, and she has no memory of how and why. As you journey out to find the answer, you interact with various fairytale-inspired characters and creatures.

Based on early descriptions, a big part of gameplay revolves around collecting and combining various spell ingredients gathered from different animals, plants, and monsters in the world.
