Jet Set Radio returns in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania

2 years 8 months ago

UPDATE 11/8/21: Sega has finally confirmed the appearance of Sonic and Tails in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania, after a previous leak tipped their inclusion.

But while we knew they were coming, today brings word that the pair thankfully won't be DLC - unlike other in-game characters. Both Sonic and Tails will be free and unlockable via normal gameplay. Selecting them also switches the game's bananas to rings, with the Sonic series' classic sound effects included.

The duo's announcement comes a week after Sega revealed Beat from Jet Set Radio would also be included - more on that below. Who's next - Idris Elba?

Valorant Now Has its First Mobile Clone, & It’s Called Project M

2 years 8 months ago

You know a game is successful when huge mobile game companies like NetEase have entire teams dedicated to cloning it, and that’s exactly what Project M is to Valorant. Revealed earlier this week as its first beta goes underway, Project M, whose name is presumably a nod of the cap to Valorant’s original designation of Project A, is a tactical 5v5 shooter with hero abilities.

But it really is a Valorant knock-off in every sense, with an identical bomb plant/defuse gameplay loop, similar-looking Agents, all with very samey abilities — from the Sova-like arrows to the Sage-like ice wall. Even the maps look the same, and the sound effects for each frag are an equally obvious imitation. It’s all pretty shameless stuff, honestly.

Of course, Valorant borrows more than a little from popular shooters like Counter-Strike and Overwatch, but at least there was some originality in its implementation. Here it’s quite literally budget Valorant on mobile.

Update: Official trailer added below. Beta test period, which runs from Aug. 4, 10:00 a.m. (GMT+8) -Aug. 6, has now apparently closed after having already reached its 1000 player cap. The game is only available on Android.

In order to truly put into scope just how cool these machines look, one fan has been going out of their way to bring them to life via 3D printing.

Which K-On Light Music Club Member Are You? Take the Quiz to Find Out

2 years 8 months ago

K-On! still stands out as one of the best slice-of-life anime series out there, thanks in no small part to its extremely lovable cast of characters and its general wholesome vibe. The series follows five high school girls who are part of the Light Music Club, where they play at various shows and events as a band that writes their own songs.

Each girl has her own unique personality that makes her special, and all of them are endearing and charming in their own way. Yui is often seen as a little absentminded, while Mio is commonly regarded as the mature and most disciplined one of the group. The characters are fairly diverse, and you’re bound to find one that you’re particularly drawn to just from watching the show.

If you’ve always wondered which K-On character you were most aligned with, personality-wise, we’ve prepared a short quiz below to help you find that out!

Halo Voice Man Jeff Steitzer Performs Destiny 2 Voice Lines As Shaxx And Lord Salad Fingers (Saladin)

2 years 8 months ago

Click to watch embedded media

Jeff Steitzer is every part of the Halo experience as the music and Master Chief himself, so when he lent his voice talents to  Destiny 2, minds were blown. Known simply as "Halo Man," Steitzer brings the Halo multiplayer experience to life in a way that most fans of the franchise treasure. For those that may not remember, Bungie was the original studio behind Halo before it was passed off to 343 Industries, and it is also the studio behind the current online game Destiny 2. So the crossover into the realm of Guardians? Not as unexpected as one might think, but every bit as cool.

Shared in my Destiny 2 clan, the video uploaded onto the Baguette, Eiffel's Blade YouTube channel (what a name) shows Steitzer harnessing his inner Lord Shaxx and Saladin. Shaxx is easily one of the most motivating characters in gaming, I'd dare say. Nothing quite lights a fire within me than hearing his loud "YESSSSSSSSSS" proclamation that oozes pride over a particularly notable move in PvP. Lord Saladin is also tied to PvP with Iron Banner, though I always jokingly call him Lord Salad Fingers of the Iron Banana because maturity is vastly overrated.

Activision Blizzard are being sued by their investors now

2 years 8 months ago

Activision Blizzard's hurricane of shit continues to spin, as it emerges that the company's investors have now filed a class action complaint against them. This new lawsuit claims that Activision Blizzard neglected to tell shareholders about the investigation into their alleged toxic work environment, leading them to be "economically damaged." The investigation, which was carried out by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH), led to them suing Activision Blizzard in July over an alleged culture of sexual harassment and discrimination.

World War Z's Aftermath expansion has you taking back the Vatican

2 years 8 months ago

World War Z was surprising in a number of ways. It was good, when I’d lazily written it off (not here or in any public forum, but privately to my cat). It was hugely popular for a time, too. It did well enough for Saber Interactive to keep at it, adding new cities and creating a GOTY edition. And now they’re updating it all again. World War Z: Aftermath is both an expansion to the original game, or a standalone that includes every update so far. It also has two new cities, survivors, a first-person mode, and lots of melee attacks.

Back on track and looking great: Halo Infinite's technical preview tested on all systems

2 years 8 months ago

The Halo Infinite technical preview debuted to Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC owners last weekend, giving us our first look at how the game has evolved since its controversial real-time debut last year. The reaction has been broadly positive - and rightfully so - while our sampling of the game has been limited to a trio of multiplayer maps, the game plays well and it seems that many of the technical issues seen in last year's gameplay debut have been comprehensively addressed. With some hands-on time under our belts, we're excited about the release of the game - but to what extent can this experience scale across the generations?

That's one of the key questions myself, John Linneman and Alex Battaglia tackle in a new DF Direct, but the story is fairly straightforward here. While the technical preview is exactly that - in no way representative of the final experience - we can see the broad strokes in how this game is designed to scale across the generations. Looking at Xbox Series consoles first, Series X targets 4K resolution in 60Hz mode, using image reconstruction techniques and dynamic resolution scaling to get there. It's almost as if there's a continuous horizontal scale in effect (in the region of 75 per cent native resolution), but it will kick in vertical scaling too in order to maintain frame-rate. Xbox Series S? It seems to use the same techniques, but targets 1080p rendering instead. Both versions run very smoothly indeed with only the most minor deviations from the 60fps target performance level.

Cyberpunk 2077 mod "StreetStyle" makes clothing choices more meaningful

2 years 8 months ago

In the vanilla version of Cyberpunk 2077, you may find yourself wearing some absurd clothing combinations just for the sake of your armour stat. Bucket hats and high heels, biking boots and pencil skirts - it all goes on just to increase that number. What you wear in Night City doesn't have much of an impact on your interactions with others, but one modder has introduced a system to make clothes more meaningful.

StreetStyle - Immersive Fashion System adds more depth to Cyberpunk's existing clothing system by tying your outfits to the game's skill checks. The PC mod gives each item of clothing specific skill bonuses in Strength, Reflexes, Technical, Intelligence and Cool (with a value between one and five for each category). These combine with your base stats to give you skill boosts that comes in handy for skill checks - such as those found in dialogue and device interactions. Items have been assigned stats according to their actual purpose: wearing Netrunning equipment, for instance, will boost your Intelligence stat - but it won't provide much help with Strength and Reflexes, as the suits are not designed for combat.

You can't simply boost your stats into the stratosphere, too: StreetStyle also adjusts the difficulty of skill checks to prevent them from being too easy with the buffs. The mod calculates your clothing bonus by adding up the total of all your clothing items for a single attribute, then dividing that number by seven, and adding it to your base stat.

These Jujutsu Kaisen X Haikyuu Nendoroid Crossovers Are Perfect

2 years 8 months ago

For anime fans, Nendoroids are great collectible items, as they not only have a lot of cute variations of their favorite anime, manga, or video game characters, but they also come with multiple parts and expressions that can be swapped out. Swapping those pieces out doesn’t just have to adhere to each figure, though, as their designs allow for many cool crossover looks.

As a result of the ability to combine Nendoroid pieces, Reddit user Yoffayr just created an amazing crossover between two of the most beloved, yet completely different, animes currently: Jujutsu Kaisen and Haikyuu. As you can see in the image below, the results are both hilarious and adorable.

Jet Set Radio’s Beat Joins Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania’s Roster

2 years 8 months ago

SEGA and the official Super Monkey Ball Twitter account shared that Jet Set Radio’s Beat will join Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania’s roster.

Beat will be available to unlock as a playable character through normal gameplay on every platform. In addition to that, when players select Beat to play as, instead of collecting bananas in Banana Mania’s stages, he will fittingly be able to collect colorful spray cans, a nice touch, an ode to the classic SEGA Dreamcast game.

Alongside SEGA’s Twitter announcement of Beat’s addition to the Banana Mania roster comes a new trailer focusing on the new playable character. You can view this trailer below.

The original Jet Set Radio launched on the Sega Dreamcast back in 2000, and this inline skating game focusing on grinding and graffitiing has since become a classic on the system. The game would spawn an Xbox sequel in 2002 called Jet Set Radio Future. Jet Set Radio eventually saw a high-definition remaster on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and iOS-compatible devices.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Releasing as a Standalone Later This Month; Update Adds New ‘Rivals’ Mode

2 years 8 months ago

Ghost of Tsushima’s excellent multiplayer mode, Legends, which was unexpectedly added to the game this time last year, is to be released as a standalone package later this month, coinciding with the launch of Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut. When it does, it will feature a brand new game mode called Rivals in which two teams of two will compete to defeat waves of enemies.

The standalone version of the game will be available to download on the PlayStation Store for $19.99, while owners of Ghost of Tsushima will receive the new update free of charge. Cross-generation play is supported.

An article over on the PS Blog details Rivals gameplay loop, which features a progression system throughout each session that allows you to upgrade your character to battle each wave. Using a currency called Magatama, which you harvest from defeating enemies, you can, for example, buy “Shades to block your opponents’ purchases, Curses (health drain, exploding bodies, etc), Hwacha fire, and more. Once you’ve spent enough Magatama, you’ll unlock Final Stand waves.”

The launch of Director’s Cut will also coincide with a fresh update for Legends, whichs adds new features, including “some changes based on feedback from the community.” Survival mode has been shortened, for example, and new weekly Survival Nightmare challenge variants are being incorporated. There are also new cosmetics in Legends for players who’ve earned them in Jin’s story and New Game+.
