Bandai Namco Expects Scarlet Nexus to Sell 1 Million Copies by March 2022; Financial Results Announced

2 years 9 months ago

Today Bandai Namco announced its financial results for the first quarter of the fiscal year, which ended on June 30, 2021.

Net sales were 178,049 million yen (+22.8% year-on-year) while operating profit was 27.021 yen (+35.7% year-on-year)

The company also revised its forecasts for both figures for the full fiscal year.

In the digital business, that includes video games, in addition to sales due to the launch of Scarlet Nexus repeat sales of older titles have been doing well due to marketing initiatives.

That being said, the business did not match last year’s performance. Sales were 66,834 million yen (-12.6% year-on-year) and segment income was  11,827 million yen (-39.0% year-on-year).

During the presentation for investors, Scarlet Nexus was mentioned as having made a good start and Bandai Namco expects it to pass 1 million shipments by the end of the fiscal year in March 2022.

Star-Lord speaks for everyone in this new Guardians Of The Galaxy footage

2 years 9 months ago

There’s some new Guardians Of The Galaxy footage for us to have mixed feelings about. We liked the action of the previous trailer, but felt it was trying a bit too hard to reflect the effortless silly coolness of the movies.

The new trailer has no action. Instead, it shows a meeting between the team and the very buff Lady Hellbender. Like a lot of people standing off in the side-quest spiral of the Marvel universe, she collects things. Monsters, in fact (someone should invent a CCG for the Marvel characters to focus on, it would save a lot of kidnappings). The GotGs need money to keep their ship and plan to con Lady Hellbender by "selling" Groot or Rocket to her. It won't work, and it doesn't look like the player had much say in the matter.

Evil Dead: The Game has been delayed to 2022

2 years 9 months ago

It seems we'll be waiting a little longer to slay zombies as Ash Williams and pals, as developers Saber Interactive have announced they're delaying Evil Dead: The Game. The co-op and PvP third-person shooter is now set to release in February 2022, so the devs have more time to polish those zombos up. On top of that, they say they're also adding a single-player mode during this extra development time, so you'll be able to go it alone, rather than having to carry your friends through it.

The Last of Us Part 2's Shamblers used to have big bums that exploded

2 years 9 months ago

The Shamblers from The Last of Us Part 2 had big explosive bums in an early build of the game.

As spotted by TechnClub, Matthew Gallant, lead systems designer at Naughty Dog, shared a clip of what appears to be a test environment with Ellie in combat with a few Shamblers that have a very different appearance to their look in the final game.

As you can see in the video below, the Shamblers' bums were bright and appeared to explode and exert a gaseous acid.

PUBG is called PUBG: Battlegrounds now, I guess

2 years 9 months ago

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is a bit of a mouthful, but at least the game has a handy acronym of PUBG to make things a bit simpler. What's that, they've tacked an extra bit onto the end? Oh.

It appears that Krafton has re-branded PUBG to PUBG: Battlegrounds - with the new name now appearing on the game's social media feeds and Steam (via PC Gamer). That's right, it's now PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds: Battlegrounds.

This apparently happened sometime in July, and appears to have something to do with Krafton's plans to create a PUBG universe.

Coca-Cola temporarily cans Overwatch League support amid discrimination lawsuit

2 years 9 months ago

Coca-Cola is stepping back from its partnership with Activision Blizzard's Overwatch League, amid a lawsuit by the state of California over a "frat boy" culture inside the company.

In a statement to The Washington Post, Coca-Cola said it was "aware of the allegations surrounding Activision Blizzard" and is "working with our partners at Blizzard as we take a step back for a moment to revisit future plans and programs".

State Farm, one of the largest insurance providers in the United States, is also pulling back, stating it was "reevaluating our limited marketing relationship with the Overwatch League". It has asked that "no advertisements run during the matches this weekend".

Rustler's "medieval GTA 2" formula could have been a real dark horse

2 years 9 months ago

Rustler has such a great, great concept behind it. It’s Medieval Grand Theft Auto 2. That’s it. That’s the game. I wish I could finish this post there. I wish there was no more for you to read than that. Because the theoretical Rustler which exists inside your head, after reading the phrase "medieval GTA 2", is probably a complete riot of delight. Alas, however. After six months in early access, Rustler is getting its full release on August 31st. And unless it is entirely transformed from the iteration of the game currently available on Steam, you are probably better off playing the version inside your mind.

Portal shooter Splitgate’s servers problems have been solved for now

2 years 9 months ago

Splitgate’s twist on the arena shooter, where players can cast portals around the levels and pull off impossible shots, saw a spike in the free FPS’ popularity when it released into beta on consoles (PC has had it since 2019). It was so popular that it basically killed the game for a few weeks because the servers were overwhelmed. With an hour-long queue reported to get into a short game of shoot-the-mans, I haven’t had the chance to try.

Thankfully, that seems to have been fixed with an update yesterday. With new funding, the game’s server capacity and support has been upgraded. The current player count on Steam is about 61,000, and I experienced no queue when I just tried to get in.

I played RimWorld's Ideologies DLC and forced drifters to smoke crack and knife-fight a unicorn

2 years 9 months ago

I had planned, today, to write a conventional review of space-western colony sim RimWorld's new DLC expansion, Ideologies. But I'm going to do something else. Because while RimWorld looks like it's about managing a settlement, it's not. You're more of a reality TV director than anything, watching a community of simulated chumps flail their way through a world of chaotic, intersecting variables, and nudging things towards the most interesting - or chaotic - outcomes. RimWorld is, as the game itself says, a story generator. As such, let me commend this new DLC to you, by telling you a story.

It’s a story about betrayal, foresight, and knife fights. Also, the industrial production of crack.

Seer players bullied me in Apex Legends and I'm not best pleased

2 years 9 months ago

This week, Apex Legends' latest season Emergence landed, bringing with it the fashionable new tracker, Seer. He's a really cool character too! His kit revolves around firing out microdrones to figure out where enemies are, which, obviously, is very useful when he's on your team. However, given that he's very new and exciting and everyone wants to play him, he's on every team. There is no hiding in Apex anymore. There's not a single place you can go where Seer can't whoosh his lil' nanobots at you. No escape.

Last night, I learned this the hard way when multiple enemy Seers trapped me and pals in a building for what felt like years.

Star Hunter DX is a colourful old school shoot 'em up, out now

Space pirates, bounty hunters, a badass woman named Luna Starr and more colours that I think I'm capable of seeing - that's what to expect from Star Hunter DX, a neo-retro sci-fi bullet hell game that's out right now. I had a go of the free demo on Steam, and it's, well, it's a bit of a trip. While the artwork and 80s vibes are brilliant, the bullets sure did give me hell. I wouldn't have had it any other way.
