Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is getting an expansion pass on Switch

3 years 3 months ago

As if Story of Seasons' feverishly compulsive farm-life vortex wasn't enough of a time sink on its own, the latest entry in the long-running series - Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town on Switch - is getting an expansion pass, adding even more distractions post-launch.

The expansion pass will deliver five monthly updates following Pioneers of Olive Town's launch on 26th March in the UK, many drawing inspiration from previous games in the Bokujo Monogatari series, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

April's update include Animal Attire costumes for the game's protagonists and marriage candidates, alongside a special sub-scenarios known as Olive Town Mystery Files. May brings the Windswept Falls Expansion Pack, which adds a new area featuring four characters from a currently unspecified 3DS series entry, including two additional marriage candidates.

Star Wars Shows on Disney Plus

If you're hungry for new Star Wars content (and after the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, who isn't?), you'll want to keep a close eye on Disney+ throughout 2021. We can look forward to three new Star Wars shows to debut on the streamer this year, two of them animated and one live-action.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/10/star-wars-the-bad-batch-official-sizzle-reel-trailer"] Most likely, Star Wars: The Bad Batch will be the first of these to materialize. This animated follow-up to Star Wars: The Clone Wars is set shortly after the events of Episode III and follows the titular team of elite Clonetroopers as they seek out a new destiny following the end of the war and the rise of the Empire. We don't know much else about the plot yet, though the first teaser trailer confirms the team will run into future Grand Moff Tarkin during the course of the series.

Puzzle Quest 3 Coming to PC and Mobile as Free-To-Play Title

3 years 3 months ago

Publisher 505 Games announced Puzzle Quest 3 following the acquisition of Puzzle Quest and Gems of War developer Infinity Plus Two last week.

The sequel in the match-three puzzle series will feature one-versus-one battles “realized in a 3D game world” with its story taking place 500 years after the original game.

The publisher said in a press release that Puzzle Quest 3 will be a free-to-play title coming to PC and mobile device later this year with “additional platforms to be announced.”

“Puzzle Quest defined the puzzle-RPG genre, creating a beloved franchise with a rich heritage that continues to resonate with a player base of millions globally today,” said Clive Robert, Head of Free-to-Play at 505 Games. “The work that Steve [Fawkner] and his team have done to reintroduce the franchise as a F2P experience across multiple platforms will undoubtedly reinvent the puzzle genre once again. As a unified publishing and dev team, we’ve created a path for the franchise that puts the player first so we can best serve our growing community.”

The original Puzzle Quest released in 2007 with a sequel in 2010, and several spin-offs released for mobile after including Marvel Puzzle Quest and Adventure Time Puzzle Quest.

Fortnite has added Terminator-themed skins and other cosmetic items to its in-game item shop on Thursday night.

Players can purchase a Sarah Connor skin that comes with a T-800 Endoskeleton Arm Back Bling and Combat Knife Harvesting Tool for 1,800 V-Bucks, or the T-800 Terminator skin itself with the HK Sky Net Uplink Back Bling for 1,500 V-Bucks.

Fortnite Adds Sarah Connor and T-800 Terminator Skins

3 years 3 months ago
The newest skins joining Fortnite’s growing roster of pop culture hunters now include Sarah Connor and the T-800 from the Terminator franchise. The accompanying skin, back bling, and pickaxe are available now in the Fortnite Item Shop. Sarah Connor was teased earlier on in the season, but now it's official. As with other special skins from this season, Sarah Connor’s outfit will come with two variants, a T-800 Endoskeleton Arm Back Bling and Combat Knife. The T-800 skin comes with a built-in Emote, HK Sky Net Uplink Back Bling, and Techno-Grip Axe. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/21/fortnite-teases-terminator-skins-for-season-5"] The theme for the current season of Fortnite revolves around the multiverse’s greatest hunters. It's a bit nebulous, but it’s a theme that has allowed Fortnite to add skins from God of War, Predator, Halo, The Mandalorian, and now The Terminator. Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5, named “Zero Point” includes a new map, a quest and bounty system, and the aforementioned bevy of pop culture skins.

Breath of the Wild Mod Makes Link’s House Look Even Comfier

3 years 3 months ago

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild features a massive open-world for players to explore. With such a huge world to play around in, it can be a little intimidating. The good news is, there’s actually a house you can buy in the game, and there’s a mod that makes it look even comfier and more welcoming.

Created by Waikuteru, not only does the house look nicer, it also offers quite a few extra conveniences and quality-of-life improvements. For instance, you’d be able to fast travel straight to the house instead of having to warp to the village shrine. There’s also a fire in the house itself where you can cook and prepare meals before venturing out again.

You can check out the house tour video down below:

Aesthetically, the mod adds a few new lamps and light sources to make the house look warmer. Link will also get a new pet chicken that will drop you eggs if you keep poking it. But of course, you’ll need to be careful of antagonizing the chicken and get ready to make a run for it if you anger it too much.

Microsoft Flight Simulator UK World Update Delayed by a Week; First Screenshots Released

3 years 3 months ago

Today Asobo, developer of Microsoft Flight Simulator, announced that the upcoming world update focusing on the United Kingdom will be delayed.

Luckily, it’s not a large delay, and the developer expects to release it only one week after its original target date on January 26.

We also learn that it’ll include 70 points of interest on top of the previously announced digital elevation map and five airports (Manchester Barton (EGCB), Liverpool John Lennon (EGGP), Land’s End (EGHC), Barra (EGPR), and Out Skerries (EG78). We’ll also get five new cities enhanced by photogrammetry including London, and those are the cause of the delay.

Below you can see the first three screenshots from England, Scotland, and Ireland, alongside a video featuring the aerodynamic improvements made since launch.

Team17 Purchases Golf With Your Friends; More DLC & Content Planned

3 years 3 months ago

Originally released in early access a few years back, Golf With Your Friends has become one of the best go-to games for players looking for something a bit more casual and charming. Players could design their own courses and share them, creating a community that constantly challenges each other with tricky obstacles.

The game was fully released last year, and Gamesindustry.biz has just reported that the IP has been purchased by Team17, best known for releasing popular co-op games like Moving Out and Overcooked.

‘CEO Debbie Bestwick commented: “We are delighted to start 2021 with the announcement that we have acquired GWYF and see great potential in this IP. Over the last two years, GWYF has shown strong consumer demand and mass market appeal, doubling its owner base and achieving success on multiple gaming platforms.
“GWYF is the type of IP we believe is right for ownership, it is successful and proven but still at the start of its journey. The team at Blacklight Interactive can be assured that we will take great care of this amazing IP.”‘

With this purchase, Team17 has also stated that they plan on continuing to work on and support the game, with plenty of DLC and other content updates in the works.

Have you played… Planet Zoo?

3 years 3 months ago

It was a real surprise to me when Planet Zoo started to truly click. It doesn’t happen often, with games this high on the complexity ladder. There’s such an incredible amount of stuff to learn about Planet Zoo, not just about the running of the zoo itself and the needs and desires of every animal, but also the remarkably powerful building tools available to the player. I genuinely didn’t think the moment would come when I could get through a session without having to look up a dozen different things about the game.

But after many hours, that point did arrive, and it probably wouldn’t have happened if the game weren’t so enjoyable even when you have no idea what you’re doing.

Cyberpunk 2077 mods let V use NPCs' cool cyberware

3 years 3 months ago

One of the things I was most disappointed with when I first started Cyberpunk 2077 was the lack of cool cybernetic implants and body modifications to choose from in the character creator. I’m not knocking the few shiny wires and lines we could choose to embed in V’s face, I think those are very good actually, there just aren’t enough of them. Thankfully, modders exist, and they’ve made a bunch of good’uns that let you properly cyberify your V – including a full-body chrome mod.

How hard is it to make your video game dog pettable?

3 years 3 months ago

Dogs. We all love to pet them. And in the game. And thanks to the Twitter account Can You Pet The Dog?, we know where to find them. Pettable dogs where they weren’t before can make gaming news.

But of course, “can you pet the dog?” is only one question. “Why can you pet the dog?” is quite another. I spoke to some indie developers about their experiences creating the pettable dogs in question, alongside Tristan Cooper, the curator of the Can You Pet The Dog? account, which is now at nearly half million followers.

Playdead's Next Game Is A Multi-Platform '3rd-Person Science Fiction Adventure'

3 years 3 months ago
Some details have been revealed about the new project coming from the creators of Limbo and Inside. Playdead's currently untitled project will be a "3rd-person science fiction adventure set in a remote corner of the universe," according to the job listings page on the studio's website. Within the Technical Director listing the 'Who We Are' section is slightly altered, adding that the game is being "built for multiple platforms on Unreal Engine." The openings also mention Playdead's company culture, noting that the studio's approach to development "does not include crunching towards arbitrary deadlines." Some new art from the game has also been found in the listings, which you can see in the gallery below. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=playdeads-next-game-9-pieces-of-art&captions=true"] It also notes that the game will be published by Epic Games, which we've known since March of 2020, when it was revealed that the publisher would be responsible for publishing the next games from gen Design (The Last Guardian), Playdead and Remedy Entertainment via its Epic Games Publishing division. The game was first teased back in March 2018, via postcards given out at the Game Developer's Conference. We still don't have a name or a release window for the game, but as the studio gears up for development, we'll be sure to let you know if we hear anything more. Switch Joy-Con Drift: Nintendo Now Facing Potential Legal Trouble in Canada, US, and Across Europe

3 years 3 months ago
Nintendo is the subject of yet another class-action lawsuit over its Switch console's ongoing Joy-Con drift issues, this time in Canada. It means Nintendo is now facing down potential legal trouble in Canada, the US, and across Europe. Québec-based law firm Lambert Avocat filed an application to bring a class action suit against Nintendo on January 15, seeking to "obtain a compensation for all Québec consumers who bought the Nintendo Switch™ and Nintendo Switch™ Lite gaming systems, as well as Joy-Con™ and Nintendo Switch Pro controllers." The firm says that drift - which sees Joy-Cons registering analog stick movement, even if they're not being touched - represents "an important, serious and hidden defect" that was not properly revealed by Nintendo. Lambert Avocat is now asking Québec residents to register as part of the suit on its website. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/11/joy-con-drift-is-still-a-huge-problem-3-years-later"] The issue of Joy-Con drift has been rearing its head since the Switch's release in 2017 – last year, we called it a disaster for the Nintendo. It's become a widespread enough issue that Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa formally apologised for the problem. This latest class action suit is just one of a slew of potential issues for the company surrounding the defect.

NGPC classic SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium rated for Nintendo Switch

3 years 3 months ago

Some excellent news for fans of SNK's Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection, as one of the coolest handheld fighters of all-time, SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium, has been rated for Nintendo Switch by The Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea.

Originally released in the winter of 1999, Match of the Millennium was SNK's ambitious effort to shrink down the bumper-sized action of titles such as Capcom vs. SNK for its humble handheld device, the Neo Geo Pocket Color. Amazingly, the experiment was a success, leading to a cute pint-sized fighter that sees legends from both brands square off for a round of fisticuffs.

Street Fighter's Ryu, Ken, Sakura, and Chun-Li; King of Fighters' Iori, Terry Bogard, and Mai; Samurai Shodown's Nakoruru and Haohmaru; even Darkstalkers' Morrigan, Felicia, and B.B. Hood all turn up for the ruck, with Match of the Millennium offering SNK's traditional tag-team options, as well as boss characters, unlockable fighters, and secret stages. If all that wasn't enough, there are also some fun score-attack mini-games, based on titles such as Metal Slug and Ghouls n' Ghosts.

While obviously not quite as deep as your average console fighter, SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium is, in many ways, one of SNK's greatest releases - a title that truly makes the most out of the least, going above and beyond to squeeze every drop of power available from its home platform. Concerns had been raised that licensing might prevent this title from re-release, and as such it's marvelous news that this long-lost fighter will be given the opportunity to shine once again.

Why we're so excited for Resident Evil: Village and its very tall lady - it's the Eurogamer next-gen news cast!

3 years 3 months ago

It's Friday, and that means it's time for another Eurogamer next-gen news cast! In the video below, Eurogamer news editor Tom Phillips, reporter Emma Kent and me discuss the week's news, including the gameplay reveal of the promising Resident Evil: Village. Is its very tall lady a vampire? This is actually something we have thoughts about.

We're excited for Village, but we're not so pumped for multiplayer spin-off Re:Verse. Capcom's multiplayer Resident Evil offerings have been mixed at best, and we're not sure why Re:Verse, with its off-putting art style, even exists.

Elsewhere in next-gen news, PlayStation 5 scalpers are at it again - although GAME has played down the claims from some on social media who posted screenshots of scores of secured orders alongside a boast about making loads of money from them.

Dicebreaker Recommends: Forbidden Desert, a family-friendly board game that builds rock-hard bonds between players

3 years 3 months ago

Dicebreaker Recommends is a series of monthly board game, RPG and other tabletop recommendations from our friends at our sibling site, Dicebreaker.

Forbidden Desert is a board game about working together to escape a disastrous situation, which certainly doesn't echo with anything we're currently seeing in real life.

Good co-op games have a way of uniting players in order to achieve a shared goal. Forbidden Desert may chuck its players into a tense scenario, where failure lurks around every possible sand dune. But it also pushes players to support one another, hear each other out and use their unique abilities to overcome obstacles as a team.
