Resident Evil Village Trailer Reveals More Plot Details, Locations, & Monsters

3 years 3 months ago

Resident Evil Village looks to chill its player base to the bone with macabre environmental art, blood-curdling combat encounters, and eerie narrative suspense. In the new trailer released today (see above) during the Resident Evil Village Showcase and 25th Anniversary celebration, Biohazard’s Ethan Winters is once again at the mercy of ghouls, monsters, and a vampire lady(?). You can see the trailer above.

During the opening moments of the trailer, a simple phone conversation between the infamous white-gowned woman and the mysterious Sister Miranda give vague hints about Resident Evil Village’s plot. Ethan Winters has escaped the evil clutches of someone named Heisenberg and has infiltrated the castle for some reason. Ethan’s wife, once again, is missing and an important ceremony is about to take place - it’s no surprise that occult practices will play a pivotal role in the story. We also get a brief glimpse of Chris Redfield and a creepy guy donning shades and a trench coat with what appears to be telekinetic powers and a bone-crushing club.

WandaVision's Kathryn Hahn Says Gossip and Secrets Are a Part of Agnes

3 years 3 months ago

Whenever Kathryn Hahn’s Agnes bursts into the camera’s focus on Disney+’s WandaVision, the show’s laugh track usually kicks in as the archetypical sitcom neighbor interrupts whatever odd thing Wanda and Vision happen to be doing. But the more time WandaVision spends following Agnes around, the more you see that, out…

Warframe's limited-time all-mech mode comes to consoles

3 years 3 months ago

I don't need a reason to return to Warframe as I still think it's the best game to wake up to on the weekends, but if I had been shying away from it, a new event kicking off today would absolutely draw me back in. "Operation: Orphix Venom" is the first all-mech event in Warframe, challenging players to beat back a massive onslaught of Sentient forces using mechs rather than their 'Frames. Last month, PC players got their shot at it, and today, console players will get to see how well they can fight against these foes.

Up to four players can team up to tackle the mission, even if they haven't played far enough into Warframe to earn their mechs. Anyone who joins in the first three weeks will also receive double affinity. Complete the operation, and you'll walk away with the 45th Warframe known as Lavos.

Roguelite action-platformer Skul made it through Early Access

3 years 3 months ago

We haven't covered Skul: The Hero Slayer much before, but I've been keeping tabs on the head-swapping action-platformer for a while now. Today's the day to check in: it's out of Steam Early Access.

While I wouldn't directly compare the two games beat-for-beat, Skul is drawing my attention as someone who adores Risk of Rain's cyclical power fantasy. Skul has a side-scrolling ability-cooldown-based premise wrapped around a roguelite shell, albeit with a central character who can swap styles with new heads. I've also been playing Rogue Legacy 2 again lately, so I'm deep in this sorta mood.

Here are the highlights for what's new in the 1.0 version of Skul:

Every Announcement From Today's Resident Evil Showcase

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/21/resident-evil-village-story-trailer"] One of the biggest announcements of the showcase, Capcom confirmed Resident Evil Village will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 7, 2021. New Resident Evil Village Gameplay Details Revealed

3 years 3 months ago
We got our best look at Resident Evil Village — or Resident Evil 8 if you prefer — today during Capcom’s livestream reveal event. Here is a breakdown of all the new features, gameplay, and story elements we learned from the nearly 30-minute event. When the rumors began to go around that Resident Evil Village would be more supernatural, featuring enemies like werewolves, vampires (including a popular tall woman we now know is named Lady Dimitrescu), and witches, the internet became abuzz. Those rumors were confirmed during the official Resident Evil Village reveal last year, but that was only scratched the surface.

It’s still first-person, but combat has evolved.

Resident Evil Village is a sequel to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Ethan Winters once again steps up to the main character role and he’s searching for a loved one, again. But this time it’s not his wife, but rather his kidnapped daughter. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/21/resident-evil-village-5-minute-gameplay-reveal"] As with Resident Evil 7, Village takes the first-person perspective once again, but Capcom producer Pete Fabiano says there are some new melee elements this time around. A big focus appears to be blocking and counters. During a fight against vampiric goons in a dungeon, Ethan can be seen blocking their attacks before kicking one in the chest. Ethan appears to have learned a few moves since the events of Resident Evil 7. Resident Evil games now firmly seesaw between more action-heavy games and survival-heavy games, and Resident Evil Village is seemingly going for something more bombastic than in Resident Evil 7. Melee attacks aside, enemies seem to attack in hordes now which should hopefully mean Ethan is loaded up with some extra firepower to take on the bigger numbers. So perhaps that’s an indication this entry will be a little more combat-heavy.

Resident Evil Village RE:Verse Multiplayer Announced

3 years 3 months ago
As part of Capcom’s Resident Evil Village reveal, Capcom producer Tsuyoshi Kanda revealed that as part of Resident Evil’s 25th Anniversary, a special multiplayer game called Resident Evil RE:Verse that will be free for anybody who purchases Resident Evil Village. RE:Verse is a competitive multiplayer mode where up to four players will play as one of several iconic Resident Evil characters. While the full roster hasn’t been revealed, the trailer shows protagonists like Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon Kennedy, and Claire Valentine; as well as enemies like Nemesis and even Jack Baker from Resident Evil 7. Other characters shown include HUNK and Ada Wong, though who knows how many more characters will be available when RE: Verse is released. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/21/re-verse-resident-evil-village-multiplayer-reveal"] Beta tests for select Resident Evil Ambassadors are set to begin soon, so if you’re part of the program and have been chosen to test the beta expect invites in the future. Capcom has dabbled with Resident Evil multiplayer in the past. Most recently with the release of Resident Evil 3 Remake, when Capcom released a special game called Resident Evil Resistance. While Resistance is an asymmetrical multiplayer game that pit four players against a mastermind, RE:Verse on the surface appears more straightforward and combat-based.

Resident Evil Village Release Date, Exclusive PS5 Demo Revealed

3 years 3 months ago
During Capcom’s official Resident Evil Village showcase, the developer made a series of announcements, including an official release date, a new PlayStation-exclusive demo, and expanding the line of launch consoles to include the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Resident Evil Village will officially be released on May 7, with pre-orders starting today. When Capcom first announced Resident Evil Village, previously referred to as Resident Evil 8, the company only announced that it will be released on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Now, Capcom has announced that alongside next-gen systems, Resident Evil Village will be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on the same day as PS5 and Series X. Something Capcom previously said it was looking into, but could not confirm. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/21/resident-evil-village-story-trailer"] Furthermore, the PS4 owners will receive a free digital upgrade to the PS5 version, and Xbox Smart Delivery will automatically upgrade the Xbox One version for the Series X. These Resident Evil Village pre-order details leaked earlier, but are now official. Current PS5 owners will also be able to try out an exclusive Resident Evil Village demo today.

Feast Your Eyes On The Latest Pop Figures Coming From Funko Fair 2021

3 years 3 months ago

If you’re reading this, chances are you already own way too many Pop figures and are peeping this article for an excuse to add just one more figure to your already crowded shelf or cabinet. That’s totally okay, of course; collecting things is fun! Funko Fair 2021 is kicking off with a new line of figures ripe for pre-ordering. As such, we’ve gathered some of the coolest Pops based on gaming and pop (ah) culture as a whole. Your wallet can thank us later.

First up is Eivor from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Unfortunately, only the male variant is available, but he should look good sitting next to you as you upgrade your homestead or help a weird lady fart better.

Next up is Wolf, the hero of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. That game is really hard, so hopefully getting your hands on one of these bad boys is a bit easier.

Hitman 3 Carry Over Guide: How To Transfer Your Hitman 2 Progress

3 years 3 months ago

One of the most exciting perks of Hitman 3 is that you can access all content from its direct predecessors. But this time, you'll also be able to transfer your progression and resume exactly where you left off. The progression transfer process itself is a bit involved, as it requires steps that you must take that are not directly performed in-game, but rather, the official Hitman website. Below we detail everything you need to know to transfer your Hitman 2 progression into Hitman 3.

For more tips and secrets, be sure to read our Hitman 3 walkthrough and guide hub. Otherwise, read on for everything you need to know about transferring your Hitman 2 progress.

How Do I Transfer My Progress?

Transferring your progress is pretty simple. Access the Hitman 3 Progression Carryover website to start the process. There, you'll be asked to log in to your IOI account, where you'll confirm the account you're transferring from and which one you're transferring to. Once that's squared away, all you need to do is wait for IO Interactive to confirm the process on their end. If you're getting impatient, there's a status page you can constantly refresh to check the transfer's progress, which might happen to you since the process speed has been experiencing some slowdown for users due to server issues. Regardless, the status page will confirm when everything's finished.

When Will PS5 & Xbox Series X|S Be Considered "Current Gen" Consoles?

3 years 3 months ago

A whole host of information about Resident Evil Village dropped during a recent livestream--a May release date, the reveal of a PS5 demo, and more details about the very tall, very hot vampire lady. But beyond that, one thing about the livestream that really stuck out to me was the description of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game as "next gen" and the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions as "current gen."

It got me thinking about when we should stop referring to the PS5 and the Xbox Series X|S as "next gen." Both consoles have been out for over two months now. They aren't something that's on the way anymore, they're actually here in quite a few peoples' homes. But folks--even me, sometimes--seemingly still think that the console generation hasn't actually switched yet.

To be honest, I'm not sure when I'm going to start naturally referring to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 as the "current gen," despite the fact that I have both a Series X and PS5 and have been using them since November. At the very least, I've come to start referring to them as "new gen" instead of "next gen" whenever I've had to write about them, but my brain hasn't made the subconscious switch to refer to Xbox One and PS4 as the old hardware. I still need to stop and remind myself of that.

Destiny 2 Will Let You Pick Your Loot Rewards Next Season With Umbral Engrams

3 years 3 months ago

More changes to loot and rewards are coming to Destiny 2 with the start of its next content season on February 9. Bungie just announced that in addition to changes to certain activities and refreshed rewards on the Moon and in the Dreaming City, Season 13 will see the return of Umbral Engrams to the game, along with the ability to choose what kind of weapons and armors you can claim from them.

Bungie ran down the changes in its This Week at Bungie blog post, outlining some changes happening with the start of Destiny 2's next content season. We last saw Umbral Engrams in the Season of Arrivals, where they were a major part of seasonal activities. Using a new item in the Tower called the Prismatic Recaster, players were able to determine which weapons and armor would drop from Umbral Engrams. The system also allowed you to choose which stats your loot would favor--essentially allowing you to more easily get guns and armor with the stats and perks you prefer for your loadout, rather than relying on random drops.

In Season 13, Umbral Engrams will return, as will the Prismatic Recaster. You'll get Umbral Engrams most often from seasonal activities, Bungie writes, but they'll also drop from random enemy kills and from other game activities. Here's the complete list:

Resident Evil Village's Vampire Lady Is Tall, Hot, And Terrifying, But Who Is She?

3 years 3 months ago

Ever since Capcom teased its Resident Evil Village Showcase, people have been obsessed with the very tall vampire lady briefly shown in the video, expressing their undying love for her. Fanart is plentiful, tweets pledging eternal love have been rolling in, and more than a few people who are comfortable with being horny on main have expressed other desires we'll avoid repeating here. Needless to say, she's already the star of the survival horror show. But who is she? Is she the primary antagonist of Ethan's journey, along with her similarly sinister sisters? Who is Mother Miranda? Many of the answers to these questions remain a mystery, even after Capcom gave us a closer look at the game in its new trailer and gameplay reveal--but we've got just enough new information to fuel the thirst.

First things first: If it wasn't clear, she is extremely tall. In the video footage of Resident Evil Village, she's shown ducking really low to get through a doorway and, in other scenes, towering over literally everyone else in the room, including you. She is the latest in a long line of tall villains, following Resident Evil 7's Jack Baker (reasonably tall), Resident Evil 2 and Remake's Mr. X (intimidatingly tall), and Resident Evil 3 Remake's Nemesis (a towering pile of mincemeat).

Re:Verse Is A New Resident Evil Multiplayer Game

3 years 3 months ago

Capcom has announced Re:Verse, a new multiplayer experience set in the Resident Evil universe. The game features multiple heroes and villains from across the survival horror series coming together in a deathmatch scenario. Naturally, there's the added threat of zombies wandering around and also felled players returning from the dead. You can check out the debut trailer below.

Producer Tsuyoshi Kanda appeared during the Resident Evil Showcase to explain that Re:Verse is one of the ways that Capcom is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Resident Evil this year as the game is "showcasing so many of the characters that fans love."

The Re:Verse showcase began with Leon and Claire facing off in a standoff situation, but other recognizable figures from the series are quickly introduced. Jill appears, engaging in combat with Leon and Claire, and someone is shown dying but then returning as a zombie.

Resident Evil Village Demo Out Now On PS5, Another One Coming This Spring

3 years 3 months ago

The first demo of Resident Evil Village is now available, but you'll need a PlayStation 5 in order to try it out. PS5 owners can now head to the PlayStation Store--provided they can get it to load, as PSN has been experiencing issues in the wake of the demo's announcement--and snag the "Maiden" demo, which is not a piece of the main game, nor does it feature its star, Ethan Winters. Instead, this will give you a taste of what to expect from the full experience without actually spoiling any of it.

As detailed by producer Pete Fabiano in the Resident Evil Showcase, the protagonist in the demo is referred to as the "Maiden" and, as such, the demo is standalone from the main game. In fact, the demo doesn't feature any combat or the new blocking system detailed in the showcase's Village gameplay demo, and it's unclear if the Tall Vampire Lady will make an appearance. But you can expect ray tracing and 3D Audio support, the latter of which requires the use of headphones. Players will be challenged to "rely solely on their wits to make their escape" in lieu of the combat you can expect in the full game.

According to Fabiano, the Resident Evil Village Maiden demo is a bit of a mood piece that gives players a taste of the presentation. "We're hoping to have players get a real feel for the visuals and audio as they take the Maiden on her journey to find a way out of the castle," he explained.

Resident Evil Village Gameplay Details: Combat, Merchant, Puzzles, And More

3 years 3 months ago

Capcom showed Resident Evil Village gameplay during a digital showcase event and, as expected, it looks a lot like Resident Evil 7. However, as producer Pete Fabiano details, a number of changes and new features have been added to mix up how the game plays.

The gameplay trailer, which you can watch below, begins in a part of the titular village. This area looks to be a snow-covered graveyard and, as expected, it's rather ominous, with a dreary, overcast atmosphere and spindly trees looming overhead. In the distance is the castle, which players will need to venture into as returning protagonist Ethan Winters, who is there to rescue his kidnapped daughter.

Capcom has opted to keep the first-person perspective for Resident Evil Village, which was introduced in Resident Evil 7 and praised for bringing a new, more immersive quality to the franchise. "We think it really draws players into the detailed world we've created," Fabiano explained. "The team put a ton of effort into creating a truly authentic feel. From art design to technology, everything ties in great, and creates some beautiful visuals."

Riders Republic's Races On PS5 Will Be Bigger Than On PS4

3 years 3 months ago

In the new February 2021 issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine, the number of Riders Republic players people can see in competitive online races on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 have been revealed. As expected, the PlayStation 5 supports more, sitting at 50 players total.

Conversely, the PlayStation 4 version of Ubisoft's upcoming extreme sports title can only support a maximum of 20 players in competitive online races. Other notable but expected differences between the two consoles are graphics and frame rate, with Riders Republic targeting 60 fps and 4K on PlayStation 5. Neither specs have been revealed for PlayStation 4.

It's worth noting these player-count limitations are specific to competitive online races, meaning players could see far more people online in the open-world and far less while participating in 6v6 game modes. Additionally, it's unclear if these player-count limitations apply to other console generations and platforms, such as Xbox One versus Xbox Series X|S.

Short-Lived Newegg Raffle Prize Was The Chance To Buy Full-Price PC Parts

3 years 3 months ago

Yesterday, online tech storefront Newegg held a brief raffle for their customers where the prize was a slim chance to purchase the latest PC tech, including AMD Ryzen 5000 CPUs and Nvidia RTX 3080 graphics cards.

The event only lasted for a moment and was called the Newegg Shuffle. Luckily, Reddit user LordNazo was able to snag a shot of the contest information before it closed. Newegg had customers go through a process of selecting the items they wished to reserve for purchase on a sort of wishlist. If they were selected as winners, they would have the opportunity to purchase those parts within a reserved window.

The catch on top of this already less-than-ideal situation is that the expensive and more sought after parts that could be selected in this process were only made available as part of bundles with other parts that customers might not even want or need. The bundles featured either a Ryzen 5 5600 CPU, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X CPU, or ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 3080 graphics card paired with a motherboard. The CPUs were bundled with a compatible AM4 board while the graphics card was paired with an Intel Z490.

Deathloop Will Occasionally Trip You Up With Inconsistent Time Loops

3 years 3 months ago

As it turns out, Deathloop won't feature a time loop that acts as a perfect clockwork system--even your best laid plans may become unraveled because of a little déjà vu. In an interview, game director Dinga Bakaba reveals as much, adding that this will result in inconsistencies in the time loop based on your actions.

"This time loop is a dirty process," Bakaba said in an interview published in PlayStation Official Magazine's February 2021 issue. "There is a limit to this, so an experienced player will know about all of the computations. These are rare, and most targets have a predictability."

As an example, the game director talks about how a Visionary--one of the main targets you must kill to end the loop--may go for a gun after you mess with them, only for you to gun them down. In the next loop, this may cause the same enemy to suffer a case of déjà vu and get the funny feeling that hunting you down won't work out for them. As a result, they may try something else even if you interact with them in the same way, forcing you to enact a contingency plan.
