Publisher: 505 Games
Developer: Infinity Plus Two

It's hard to believe it, but 11 years have passed since the last numbered entry in the Puzzle Quest series. The hybrid match-three/RPG adventure gimmick was an odd pairing, but the series amassed more than 30 million users since its 2007 debut. Today, publisher 505 Games has revealed that the next installment in the series is coming this year, in the form of – you guessed it – Puzzle Quest 3.

Steve Fawkner, creator of the series and CEO and creative lead at Infinity Plus Two, says he's excited to reveal more about what's ahead. "The vision for this latest project has been years in the making, and like any good Puzzle Quest game, it's a delicate balance of gameplay, story, and strategic puzzle-solving while introducing something unexpected that will appeal to both old and new fans. We can’t wait to share PQ3."

3 years 2 months ago

You’ve probably heard this one before. A buzzy game hits the market. It demands some degree of internet connection. Everyone flocks to play on day one, only to hit a series of frustrating roadblocks. Online connectivity is shaky, if functional at all. There are issues with save data and character progression. Some…

Breath Of The Wild Mod Makes Link's House Suck Less

3 years 2 months ago

Much like his fellow millennials (who may or may not also technically be over 100 years old due to Calamity-induced death sleeps), Breath of the Wild’s Link dreams of home ownership. Unlike the rest of us, he can actually achieve that goal. There’s just one problem: The house is bad. Between the initial purchase and…

First 4 Figures' Gravelord Nito statue has a cloak made of a hair and that just seems right

3 years 2 months ago

As far as expensive-as-hell gaming statues go, First 4 Figures' take on Gravelord Nito from Dark Souls speaks to me strictly on a window-shopping level. But I love him. I love him and his "faux hair cloak."

Folks, this 27" tall statue costs $700 – and that's the early bird price, without shipping.

If you can swing it, good for you. Discounted pre-orders are open until February 3 with an expected ship date of Q1 2022. Your Dark Souls collection – which I assume you have, because who would start collecting merch with such a high-effort statue – will be all the more imposing with Nito standing tall.

For the rest of us, hey, at least he's fun to look at. It's tough to appreciate the big lug when skeletons are nipping at your heels and you really don't want to make the trek through the Tomb of Giants again.

I'll continue to appreciate First 4 Figures from a distance... with my credit card locked up tight.

Resident Evil Village is out May 7 and that includes PS4 and Xbox One

3 years 2 months ago

During this afternoon's Resident Evil showcase event, Capcom announced a May 7, 2021 worldwide release for Resident Evil Village. That includes not just PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but also the getting-on-in-years PS4 and Xbox One. Capcom "worked hard" to pull off the simultaneous launch.

If you're picking up the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 versions, you'll be able to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S equivalent at no extra cost. A PS5-exclusive demo, Maiden, is live on the PlayStation Store today (it's about 4GB). Later this spring, a new, "separate" demo will release on "all platforms."

"Maiden was originally designed as a visual demo that would allow you to explore the inside of Dimitrescu Castle, but it evolved to include a short story and puzzle solving," said producer Peter Fabiano. "Maiden is not the name of any person, but instead it symbolizes the protagonist, a girl who's trapped in Dimitrescu Castle." Standalone but related demos are one of my favorite parts of this series.

I'm stoked to pick up where the insanity of Resident Evil 7 left off, but with even more strangeness.

Ninjala celebrates six million global downloads

3 years 2 months ago

It has to be said that GungHo Online's arena shooter Ninjala didn't quite take the world by storm as the developer had perhaps hoped, but that doesn't mean that the vibrant multiplayer title hasn't won over its fair share of fans. In fact, GungHo just announced a milestone of six million total downloads, garnered over the seven months since the game's release.

Available as a free-to-play title for Nintendo Switch, Ninjala combines chaotic melee combat with acrobatic parlour-style stage traversal, as players battle it out in a number of modes to take their team to victory. Inevitably drawing comparisons with Nintendo's own multiplayer battler, Splatoon, Ninjala has not seen quite the same level of success, but has found favor with some fans due to its lighthearted action and emphasis on customization.

The five million download milestone was achieved back in October 2020, so another million players have jumped into Ninjala's sticky world over the winter period. GungHo Online has more updates planned for the title throughout 2021, so it would appear that – for now at least – Ninjala's bubble hasn't burst.

Sea of Thieves' inaugural battle pass season launches next week

3 years 2 months ago

Sea of Thieves' previously revealed battle pass will launch its first season of player progression and rewards next Thursday, 28th January.

The battle pass - intended to offer a "tangible sense of progress", even when engaging in shorter sessions according to Rare - will feature 100 progress levels (with associated seasonal rewards) that can be unlocked through exploration, adventuring, and combat. There's also talk of pirate trials "that celebrate...existing content and encourage you to play in new ways".

Notably, this new seasonal model also marks a shift in development strategy for the multiplayer pirate game. Instead of delivering new content on a monthly basis, as it did previously, Rare will now release new features every three months, at the start of each new season.

Star Citizen Video Is All About Rivers & Space Combat as Crowdfunding Passes $342 Million

3 years 2 months ago

Today Cloud Imperium Games released a new video of its upcoming space simulator Star Citizen, which continues to grow.

The video features a rather interesting look at new tools that the developers will be able to create rivers in Star Citizen’s planets.

On top of that, we also get to hear about the Space Combat Summit, which is basically an inter-discipline meeting between developers of different teams that work together to draw the path to make combat even more fun with future development.

There’s even a fun little surprise at the end, even if there are no promises about its actual implementation in the game.

You can watch it below.

In other Star Citizen news, the crowdfunding total just passed $342 million, and it’s currently at $342,469,194

The number of registered accounts is also approaching three million, and it’s currently at 2,947,188.

As usual, you should keep in mind that it’s known that not all of them are paying players. The number includes free accounts created for a variety of reasons, including Free Fly events and more.

Resident Evil Village Gets New Trailer, Gameplay Details, Release Date & More

3 years 2 months ago

Resident Evil Village has received a slew of new info, ranging from new details about the gameplay to a firm release date for most every platform.

During the Resident Evil Showcase held on Jan. 21, information on a variety of elements related to Resident Evil Village was revealed. These included a firm release dat of May 7, 2021; an expanded availability to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One; a new trailer hinting at more of the game’s story and characters; and a gameplay demo showing off how the game’s combat, exploration and puzzle solving will work.

In terms of the trailer, it’s more of what fans of the series have become accustomed to. Starting with a cryptic conversation between Ethan and Mia, it quickly cuts to scenes of some of the game’s villains and monsters. These range from sword-wielding wretches in sewer-ways to a long and tall vampire; who, during her time on screen, speaks with an unseen adversary known as Mother Miranda.

It all culminates in Ethan encountering a mysterious man wielding a giant hammer. He says he wants to see what Ethan is made of, and as he does, rocks start to float around him.

New Gameplay Today – Resident Evil Village PS5 Demo

3 years 2 months ago

Click to watch embedded media

Today has been like Christmas for fans of one of Capcom's most revered franchises. During the Resident Evil Showcase, we learned when we'd be playing the new horror game, what the game's collector's edition would look like, and got our first look at gameplay. Most notably though, for fans looking to get their hands on the game sooner rather than later, an exclusive demo for PlayStation 5 users is available now.

The demo, titled Maiden, features our titular character attempting to flee the mansion seen in the trailer footage. But there's a catch. Instead of wielding the weaponry and blocking abilities of Ethan Winters, you can only flee from the horrors within the spooky fortress. The demo does not feature the protagonist of the full game and it's still a mystery as to who The Maiden actually is, but here's hoping we see more from Lady Dimitrescu, the towering antagonist from the most recent trailers.

New Video Offers New Look At Netflix's Animated Resident Evil Film, Infinite Darkness

3 years 2 months ago

Netflix is continuing on its gaming adaptations streak with a new animated CGI series called Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. While we've known about the upcoming show for a while now, we have yet to learn more about what it will be like beyond a few stills and the initial teaser trailer. In a world set a few years after the events of Resident Evil 4, Capcom shared another new look at the upcoming Resident Evil show with a second video.

Netflix has previously teased the new series, saying "When biohazards run wild, only a pair of veteran zombie slayers can get the job done," reads the social media caption alongside the still reveal. Netflix also states that this will be set within the canon of Capcom's universe and that it will be arriving sometime next year."

The latest teaser trailer can be seen below, showing off more of Leon and Claire, at the end of the showcase:

The upcoming animated series will take place a few years after the events of Resident Evil 4, seeing both Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield together once more to face off against a brand new outbreak. While Capcom did not confirm when the new series will air, we do at least have a small trailer to tide us over until more is revealed in the coming months.

PvP As Your Favorite Resident Evil Characters With RE: Verse

3 years 2 months ago

Earlier this month, Capcom invited a select number of players to join in on a closed beta test for a PvP experience meant to celebrate 25 years of the iconic Resident Evil franchise. That testing period is set to go live next week, but we do have our first look at what those players will enjoy with Capcom's reveal of RE: Verse.

While many players enjoyed Project Resistance, a spin-off multiplayer experience set within the Resident Evil universe, RE: Verse is an all-out PvP journey that pits iconic characters against one another. In the video below, Capcom's Tsuyoshi Kanda revealed our first look at RE: Reverse, including a shootout between Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield.

Click here to watch embedded media

The above trailer starts off with a Leon Kennedy running through a seemingly abandoned station, donning that familiar RPD gear. As he prepares to go through an open doorway, he's confronted by none other than Claire Redfield. In this world, however, they aren't allies, they're enemies, and that PvP flare kicks off with a comedic Western-style shootout closeup before the two fire rounds into one another.

In our first look at the multiplayer spin-off, we see staples throughout the franchise like Mr. X, Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, and more. With special attacks modeled after real moves in-game, RE: Verse is a kill or be killed online adventure that allows fans to harness their inner...well, whoever!

Don't have a PS5? No worries! A different demo will be going live for all other platforms at a later date, but first, let's take a look at what the new-gen experience has in store.

In the PS5 demo, players won't be assuming the role of Ethan Winters, instead, we will be filling the shoes of a character that goes by The Maiden. Check out our first look at the demo below.

The demo for the new generation of PlayStation systems is unique to the PS5, meaning the demo that other platform players play will be different. For this particular early access period, however, players will encounter a different kind of experience: No combat, no wares, just the one objective of escaping a deadly castle before it's too late.
