5 Games Like Minecraft Dungeons If You’re Looking for Something Similar

3 years 10 months ago

Minecraft Dungeons was released late last month and, although we found it to be a middling adventure, it has gotten some fanfare for its ability to capture the source material while embarking into a new genre. Even though you’d be hard-pressed to find something that matches it perfectly, there are plenty of games that closely resemble the gameplay and genre. Here are five games like Minecraft Dungeons if you’re looking for something similar.

Clearly, Minecraft Dungeons was inspired by the gameplay and dungeon-crawling of this set of hack-and-slash titles, all the way down to the way the mini-map overlays on the screen.

Gwent’s The Master Mirror Expansion Features a Familiar Face From The Witcher 3

3 years 10 months ago

CD Project Red has today announced the latest expansion for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, the spin-off TCG based on the brilliant The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt mini-game. Called The Master Mirror, it’s set to launch later this month, June 30.

The expansion brings over 70 new cards to the game, all themed around its main antagonist: the cunning Gaunter O’Dimm, a shadowy character who will be familiar to anybody who has played The Witcher 3’s Hearts of Stone DLC.

Among the 70 new cards are faction-specific ones, including a brand new Legendary card type which evolves in both appearance and power as the battle progresses. 11 neutral cards are also included, which can be used across all Gwent factions.

Additionally, new statuses and abilities will also be introduced, bringing with them a fresh set of tricks and strategies to take advantage of in the heat of combat.

Check out the new trailer:

In anticipation of the upcoming release, a number of Master Mirror pre-order offers have been added to the Gwent in-game store. These packs grant players access to new cards from the expansion upon its release, with a unique Gaunter O’Dimm leader skin, as well as a Master Mirror-inspired card back and title also available in specific packs.

Sea Of Thieves has dropped anchor on Steam

3 years 10 months ago

Oh I’m so jealous of all the new players who’re going to get to experience Sea Of Thieves for the first time. Today, Rare’s excellent loot huntin’, ship shootin’ pirate sandbox opened its doors to Steam players. So, Sea Of Thieves is no longer exclusive to the Windows Store, after two years, and what’s more, it has cross-platform play and progression between Steam, Windows and Xbox.

Sega Game Gear Micro includes four games, each color variant has different titles

3 years 10 months ago

As teased yesterday, Sega has officially revealed the Game Gear Micro, a teeny-tiny version of its famous handheld console, which hit the market way back in 1990. Pre-orders are open now in Japan, where the unit retails for ¥4.980, or roughly $45 USD.

The portable measures just over three inches in length and a little over 1.5 inches in width, with a 1.15-inch display. Powered by USB charge or two AAA batteries, the Game Gear Micro will launch in black, blue, red, and yellow variations. Each variant features four built-in games, with different titles attached to each colour model. Yeah, this is very much "for collectors".

The black model includes Sonic the Hedgehog, Royal Stone, Out Run, and Puyo Puyo II. The blue model gets Sonic & Tails, Baku Baku Animal, Gunstar Heroes, and Sylvan Tale. The yellow edition features Nazo Puyo, Shining Force, Shining Force II, and Shining Force: Final Conflict, while the red edition gets Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible, Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special, G.G. Shinobi, and Columns.

PS4 Back Button Attachment Back In Stock At Best Buy, Walmart, And PlayStation Right Now

3 years 10 months ago

The best PS4 controllers out there feature programmable back paddles, and earlier this year, Sony released an attachment that equipped its DualShock 4 with them. That move proved popular, as the back button attachment sold out quite quickly. Sony announced last week that more would be back in stock in the US this week, and that looks to be have held true. The DualShock 4 back button attachment costs $30 and is currently available at some major retailers. Some have it in stock, while others are offering backorders that let you order ahead of time and receive it when more stock becomes available.

Right now, you can get one shipped to you from Best Buy and Walmart for its standard $30 price tag. You can also order one from GameStop via backorder. The peripheral has proven to be quite popular, however, so this current round of stock will likely sell out soon. You can also get it from PlayStation Direct.

EA Announces Donations, Volunteer Programs For Racial Justice

3 years 10 months ago

In light of ongoing protests for racial justice across America, several game companies have issued statements of support or announced donations. EA has now announced some broad steps of its own, including both monetary donations and several internal initiatives.

In a message from CEO Andrew Wilson, the company announced a $1 million donation to organizations including the Equal Justice Initiative and the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, along with others to be announced. On top of that, the company is double-matching employee contributions to those organizations and any local charities through the end of June.

The company is also launching a set of volunteering initiatives to get employees involved in community action. Each employee will get a paid day of volunteer work, which Wilson says will total 75,000 hours across all of its employees around the world. It will be encouraging employees to use that paid time for racial justice work by sharing a list of appropriate volunteer activities that can be performed from home to abide by social distancing guidelines due to the coronavirus.

Poly Bridge 2 review

3 years 10 months ago

Screenshot for Poly Bridge 2 review.

I’m so interested in how expectation affects our experience of games. Whether it’s from over-ambitious promotional materials, peculiarly unhelpful reviews, or completely misreading the game’s description before buying it, what we’re hoping for before we start really colours how we receive the game. I was convinced that Poly Bridge 2 was a goofy physics puzzler, something somewhere between Totally Accurate Battle Simulator and Crayon Physics Deluxe. Poly Bridge 2 is nothing like that. It is – despite the apparent levity in the screenshots you see either side of these words – a proper grown up game for proper serious bridge building enthusiasts.

I am enchanted by magical life sim Little Witch In The Woods

3 years 10 months ago

I know I say this a lot, but I am always on the lookout for things that are a bit like Stardew Valley, but not. (Incidentally, for those interested in my battery chicken farm efforts, I have increased the size of my coop whilst giving the hens three squares of space to roam outdoors during the day.) Last week at the Wholesome Direct I learned of the existence of Little Witch In The Woods, and I am agog, reader, pure agog at the state of this game.

Path Of Exile's next expansion takes a leaf from Stardew Valley and makes loot-farming literal

3 years 10 months ago

Gardening seems a lot more dangerous than Alan Titchmarsh let on.

On June 19th, the next quarterly update for Path Of Exile – the free-to-play action RPG – will give players the chance to trade blood-soaked knives for green fingers. It’s called Harvest, and it tasks you with managing a garden. Of course, your glowing nocturnal plants will blossom into monsters needing slaying, but this should provide some downtime between dungeon crawls in a game that has grown faster and more aggressive with every update. How does your garden grow? See my thoughts after a chat with Grinding Gear head Chris Wilson, plus the trailer below.

Next WWE title to have 'new philosophical foundation', devs looking at classic games for inspiration

3 years 10 months ago

WWE video games have been super stagnant for a long, long time. This came to a head last year with the abominable mess that was WWE 2K20. In an effort to take a step back from the long chain of dull releases, 2K Games recently announced that there would be no WWE 2K title this year, giving the series' developer Visual Concepts a grand opportunity to re-design the digi-graps experience.

Patrick Gilmore, who is behind the masterful 2013 Killer Instinct reboot and has been brought in to oversee the new WWE game, took to Reddit over the weekend for an AMA. The session allowed the gaming community to ask Gilmore about some of the thoughts and ideas that he would be bringing to the next entry. Overall, the response was very positive indeed.

According to Gilmore, the intention is for the WWE series to have "an all-new philosophical foundation," with the producer invoking the names of deities such as WWF: No Mercy and WWF SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain as sources of inspiration. Gilmore was quick to note that the team would not simply be re-creating these beloved titles, but would instead be looking at the key elements that made them such all-time classics of the genre.

Platinum president says that Wonderful 101 Remastered went well and plans to keep self-publishing games

3 years 10 months ago

Although there were some hiccups; now that the dust has settled, Platinum says that their plan to self-publish Wonderful 101 went well.

Taking to the company's official blog, president and CEO of the company Kenichi Sato explained that this was a "major step" for Platinum, given that they handled "sales, publicity, and everything else that goes along with publishing a game." But while all that added work might scare off some, Platinum is going to continue to double down on it.

Sato further explains that "publishing our games ourselves deepens our connection to our players," and that they are able to go directly to the studio for support. He goes on to say that Platinum has "been building [their] self-publishing foundations up, little by little, and the time has finally come."

That said, he naturally isn't excluding other publishers, saying the practice will continue as it always has. However you slice it, it seems like Platinum is in a good spot and can have their cake and eat it too, working on popular franchises for Square Enix and Nintendo while controlling their own destiny.

Get the 55-inch LG B9 OLED for £924 - the lowest price we've ever seen

3 years 10 months ago

Update (June 4th): The original 55-inch B9 listing has sold out, so the next best price is £998 at Richer Sounds with code TV50. If you want the 65-inch model, you can use code BLC6 at Hughes to get the 65-inch LG B9 for £1503. Original article continues.

The best value OLED on the market is LG's B9, and today the 55-inch model has hit its lowest ever price: £924 on Ebay with code PICK20OFF. That's an incredible price for a great 4K TV, whether you're watching films or gaming, especially given that it includes a five year warranty.

We love the B9 because it's built around the same great panel as this year's BX and CX OLEDs, but it costs hundreds of pounds less. That value makes it our recommendation for the best 4K TV for HDR gaming, alongside its bigger brother the C9.
