Idol Manager Gets Gameplay and Story-Focused New Trailer

3 years 10 months ago

The visual novel/simulation hybrid Idol Manager has received a new trailer chock-full of gameplay, details on the story and more.

During the New Game + digital showcase event, a new trailer for the upcoming idol industry simulator was unveiled. in it, characters from the game provide some background on who they are, how they ended up working for the game’s idol agency and what may be in store for them.

This isn’t as cheery as it sounds though. Each character has their own ambitions and motivations, and many are clear about how they feel regarding their rising or falling stardom within the industry. Some blame others for their decline, while others see new opportunities through those they now find themselves surrounded with.

This is to say nothing of the actual gameplay shown during these monologues. As the characters sound off, different aspects of the simulation gameplay whiz by, giving a glimpse at elements like maintaining agency members’ health, instructing them in dancing and other performative arts, and interactions they can have which play out like a visual novel.

It’s something simulation and visual novel fans alike will want to check out, and the full trailer can be viewed down below.

It's silly, but I'm actually in love with the two little trolley wheels on Acer's Orion 9000 mega rig

3 years 10 months ago

It’s the little details that really make a gaming PC special. Sure, the newly-unveiled 2020 refresh of Acer’s Predator Orion 9000 mega desktop might have one of Intel’s Core i9 Extreme Edition CPUS and two Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti graphics cards SLI-ed together for maximum gaming frames, but it’s those dinky little trolley wheels on the back of its chassis that really caught my eye in their Acer Next livestream this afternoon, so much so that I think every PC case from here on out should come with wheels as standard. Who’s with me?

Trails of Cold Steel IV gets concrete western PS4 release date

3 years 10 months ago

After a tease of a fall release date alongside the announcement of the collector's edition earlier this year, Trail of Cold Steel IV now has a finalized date for the western PlayStation 4 release.

Fans of the JRPG series now only have to wait until October 27 for the conclusion of the spin-off's storyline. The October date puts it directly one month past the Japanese release. Unfortunately for those of you who were looking forward to playing on Nintendo Switch or PC, you are still stuck in limbo with a vague 2021 date.

To celebrate the announcement, NIS released a short trailer complete with western voices and some looks at the gameplay.

Traveller's Tales spent $1m making a demo for a non-Lego Hobbit game that never came out

3 years 10 months ago

Traveller's Tales spent $1m making a demo for a non-Lego Hobbit game that never saw the light of day.

In a video from Jon Burton, founder of Lego game developer Traveller's Tales, footage of various The Lord of the Rings-themed demos reveals the effort the studio put into its bid to make a The Hobbit movie tie-in game over a decade ago.

Burton, as part of his superb GameHut video series, discusses the $1m the studio spent making an Xbox 360 demo in just six months back in 2008. This demo was designed to convince The Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, and Guillermo del Toro, who at the time was attached to The Hobbit movie, that Traveller's Tales was capable of making a non-Lego game based on the upcoming film.

Fallen Legion Revenants Announced for PS4, Switch at New Game+ Expo

3 years 10 months ago

Earlier this morning we got our first look at the next entry in YummyYummyTummy’s RPG franchise. The first Indonesian game studio to release a console video game is now about to become the first one to launch their own trilogy with Fallen Legion Revenants.

This new title in the Fallen Legion franchise takes place after Sins of an Empire and Flames of Rebellion. This time around we follow Lucien on his journey to overthrow a corrupt ruler that resides in Welkin Castle.

Lucien likes to get up close and personal with enemies but can also sneak around and pickpocket foes. We also got a look at another playable character, Rowena. She’s a magical spirit that faces her enemies from a distance with spells.

Fallen Legion Revenants looks to carry over their trademark side-scrolling look and battle system that has shades of Dragon’s Crown. You can jump into the struggle to end the rule of a tyrant when this game releases on PS4 and Nintendo Switch in 2021. Also, those who pre-order the game will receive a mini art book and a digital soundtrack.

Don’t forget to check out the full trailer for Fallen Legion Revenants below.

Bloodstained: Curse Of The Moon 2 Announced

3 years 10 months ago

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon was a surprise treat that laid some narrative groundwork for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. During the New Game Plus Expo, Inti Creates announced a follow-up, Curse of the Moon 2, which will continue the 8-bit aesthetic.

The new story was overseen by series creator Koji Igarashi, and will focus on the swordsman Zangetsu. Like the first game you can pick up playable allies to add to your character roster. Those include the exorcist Dominique you may recognize from Ritual of the Night, along with the marksman Robert and the enchanted armor Hachi.

Also like the first game, your allies will each have their own health bars, unique skills, and abilities. Robert, for example, is a great distance fighter, but he's physically vulnerable and has no access to magic. Some paths will only be accessible by certain characters, so unlocking them all will create opportunities for shortcuts and alternate ways through the world.

Tin & Kuna Gets Brief but Charming New Trailer

3 years 10 months ago

The colorful platformer Tin & Kuna has received a new trailer which, while short, puts the game’s charm and aesthetic on full display.

During the New Game + digital Showcase held on June 23, a brief new trailer was unveiled for the game which shows off the title’s colorful and imaginative spin on platformers. As Kuna, players can morph into a ball and bounce their way up, along and past obstacles in search of the Prime Orb; a priceless artifact which is sacred to his home.

This sounds simple enough, but in practice it’s pretty inventive. Players must keep Kuni balanced on platforms, roll along narrow paths and use special abilities to destroy obstacles and keep their momentum going.

All the while, Kuni is letting out cute grunts and the game’s soundtrack pumps out happy, mellow beats.

And that’s all just the first portion of the game. Upon discovering the Prime Orb, Kuni discovers a new friend; the titular Tin. Alongside him, he’ll have access to new abilities which will help him undo chaos and discord which is intent on throwing his world out of whack.

It’s a charming and uplifting display with some interesting implications, and its worth checking out the full trailer in its entirety down below.

First Look at Harvest Moon: One World Shown at New Game+ Expo

3 years 10 months ago

Today during the New Game+ Expo, we got our very first look at Harvest Moon: One World, which was first announced in May.

Harvest Moon: One World, which is being published by Natsume, is the latest game in the Harvest Moon farming simulator series. In addition to managing your own farm, you can befriend new and familiar characters and take on a number of challenges.

What makes this game in the franchise different than previous entries is that it spans a greater area than just a small, rural town: instead, you can explore the world, from snowy mountains to tropical beaches.

Harvest Moon: One World features graphics from a brand new engine. Natsume has stated that while Harvest Moon has evolved over the decades, it has also retained a traditional farming setting that the series has been known for.

In the first look trailer, we got a glimpse of the graphics and gameplay we can look forward to experiencing. We see many familiar elements of the Harvest Moon series, such as farming and ranching, and a wide variety of environments to explore.

It is worth mentioning that in 2012, the original creators of Harvest Moon discontinued the licensing of the series to Natsume and continued the franchise under the name Story of Seasons. Natsume continued to create games under the Harvest Moon name in North America and Europe, beginning with The Lost Valley.

Harvest Moon: One World will be making its way to PS4 and Nintendo Switch in Fall 2020. You can watch the first look trailer below.

Rogue Legacy 2's family tree sprouts soon, coming to Early Access next month

3 years 10 months ago

Loving parents just want their children to have a better life than they had. The parents in Rogue Legacy 2 are good parents because they find ways to make life easier for their kids. They're also bad parents for leaving the kids a castle full of monsters who will inevitably kill them. Life's tough.

Rogue Legacy 2 developer Cellar Door opened up about some of the changes to the sequel. One of the major new features adds more metroidvania to the roguelike. Heirlooms are permanent unlocks that grant new abilities, and they "fundamentally change how you play." Cellar Door also notes, however, that heirlooms are tough to find and to unlock.

There's more new stuff with Rogue Legacy 2 including: Animations that use stepping techniques a la Dragon Ball FighterZ; a trait system that rewards more gold for more difficult modifiers; biomes that feel like completely unique regions rather than just more castle; at least 12 different class types; and more options for struggling players to make the game less punitive.

It's all very much a work-in-progress which you can experience first-hand very soon. Rogue Legacy 2 is coming to Early Access on Steam and the Epic Game Store on July 23. Those who are conscious about their gold-spending habits may want to pay attention to the pricing. The Early Access release will cost $20. Half-way through Early Access (which is expected to run a full year but may go longer), the price ups to $25. When the final game launches, it'll be $30. Also, it's only on PC for now but new platforms will eventually be added.

Minecraft's Nether Update finally makes its hell dimension more habitable

3 years 10 months ago

Minecraft now has a tradition of producing big annual updates, and the latest is no exception. Releasing today, The Nether Update is a massive overhaul of Minecraft's hellish underbelly, seeking to convince players to stay a little longer in the dangerous lava-filled caverns. Players can expect to find new biomes, a material stronger than diamond, and communities of Piglins who are open to bartering.

Oh, and it sounds like Minecraft's mountains are likely to get a refresh of their own soon - although details currently remain rather light.

The Nether is an area that's remained largely unchanged since the game's launch, which is why Mojang now feels it's finally time to flesh it out. Ahead of the update's release, some players worried the addition of less-hostile biomes would make the Nether less foreboding. Yet as senior game developer Agnes Larsson told me, the Nether will remain both dangerous and unique.

New World Developer Diary Explains The Different Ways To Advance In The MMO

3 years 10 months ago

Following the launch of the team-based shooter Crucible, Amazon Games is already prepping the release of its next game, the MMO New World. As a high-fantasy take on the early colonial era in North America, the MMO is Amazon's most substantial release. After facing delays from the COVID-19 pandemic, the online game is approaching its launch on August 25, and the developers are opening up more about what players can expect to experience in-game.

In this exclusive for GameSpot's Play For All charity event, we're showing off the latest developer diary for New World, detailing the game's five key progression systems for players to dive into. While the game has been in closed alpha for some time, this is the most in-depth look at the game's mechanics coming straight from the development team. In previous episodes, the developer diaries highlighted faction and invasion gameplay, exploration, and the lore within the world of Aeternum.

For MMO games, it's often the case that you start by selecting a character class and then following through with a series of quests that eventually open up the game's different side-activities and large-scale events. However, New World has a more flexible system in how you make your way through the world, which sets it apart from other online games. Before the reveal of this new developer diary, we spoke with New World's head of player experience Dave Verfaillie and lead UX designer Daniel Henuber about the MMO's approach to progression, along with what they learned from the closed alpha period.

Epic Game Store’s Vault Campaign Sets New Active User Records For the Client

3 years 10 months ago

The Epic Game Store’s Vault campaign, which ran for roughly a month between May 13 to June 18, has been a raving success for the publisher. The platform shattered several previous user records, including average Peak Concurrent Users (PCCU) on PC of 13 million and Monthly Active Users (MAU) on PC of over 61 million.

The Vault Campaign centered around a giveaway promotion; it featured a major, top-secret free game giveaway each week that players could acquire and keep forever. Media focused on digital and got placed across 21 markets, including the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, and Russia, to name a few.

In a press release sent to Twinfinte earlier today, Steve Allison, GM Epic Games Store said of the campaign:

“Since launching the Epic Games Store, we’ve always wanted to create a huge event around our very successful Free Games weekly program to give something awesome to players worldwide, and we decided to go big. We invested in acquiring the rights to give four of the biggest games in the world away free.

We needed an agency partner who could execute big for us globally. Battery’s deep experience in gaming plus Havas Group’s media capabilities fit the bill. The results have exceeded our expectations. In 2020, we’ve been growing at a historic rate. Epic Games Store partners have a huge audience of players to sell their games to and receive 88% of the revenue, instead of only 70% as on other platforms.”

Lisa Evia, President, Havas Media overseeing Chicago and Canada also weighed in:

Pokemon Sword & Shield: The Isle of Armor Review – Kub Fu Fighting

3 years 10 months ago

When I first arrived at the Isle of Armor, my eyes were immediately drawn to the massive seemingly to-scale Wailord that had parked itself deep out in the ocean. It was perhaps the most awe-inspiring thing I’ve seen in a Pokemon game. I swam out to it to see if it was real and not just decoration. It was real all right. I wasn’t mentally prepared for it to be level 80 (!) so I panicked and ran away. I haven’t seen the Wailord again since.

That Wailord encounter was the high point of Pokemon Sword & Shield’s first expansion. It was one of the very few memorable moments I experienced during my play time with Isle of Armor.

That moment set the stage for an expansion that I thought was going to be rife with challenge and excitement. Unfortunately, most of what followed was a lot more of the same that I already experienced too much of in Sword & Shield.

Isle of Armor is another light-hearted story with little depth with a heaping of Wild Areas thrown on top. The last thing that Pokemon Sword and Shield needed was more Wild Areas, but before I go off on that, let me first talk about the story.

The story of Isle of Armor sees the main character joining a martial arts dojo and completing a series of trials that will eventually reward the player with the honor of adopting Kubfu, a new Fighting Pokemon unique to the expansion.

Acer's new Predator Helios 700 laptop has a real funky keyboard

3 years 10 months ago

Acer are taking the phrase “desktop replacement” to a whole new level with the latest version of their Predator Helios 700 gaming laptop, as today they announced that the newest model of their flagship gaming machine will now come with one of their special, sliding HyperDrift keyboards to mimic the look and feel of a regular desktop keyboard. That’s not all Acer are looking to replace, either. Thanks to the laptop’s mechanical MagForce switches on the WASD keys, they’re also hoping you’ll be able to ditch your controller, too, as these pressure-sensing keys will supposedly be able replicate the fine motor control you get from a traditional analogue stick with the help of its optical laser technology.

Earth Defense Force 6 Announced, Check Out These Giant Bees And Spiders

3 years 10 months ago

The bug-squishing action series is coming back, as D3 Publisher has just announced Earth Defense Force 6. Not much has been detailed for the upcoming game aside from a handful of screenshots and a wide release target of 2021. Platforms have not been announced.

The screenshots on the official Japanese site focus mostly on the bugs themselves: ants that are several stories tall, spiders crawling over wrecked buses, and bees that appear to be at least the size of a sensible family-sized SUV. There's even some kind of bug-like monstrosity that's standing upright and holding a weapon of its own. A single screenshot shows the apparent player character, who looks pretty insignificant next to these enormous insects.

Earth Defense Force has gained a cult icon status for its notoriously terrible B-movie dialogue and wild bullet-hell action as you defend earth against an onslaught of alien insectoids.
