NES launch title Tennis is this week's Arcade Archives release

3 years 4 months ago

Publisher Hamster is heading back to the dawning days of the Nintendo Entertainment System for this week's Arcade Archives release, as the Vs. System edition of Tennis is now available to download on Nintendo Switch.

Originally released as a launch title for the North American and European edition of the NES in 1985, Tennis features incredibly (and understandably) simplistic over-the-net action, as one or two players rally back and forth in singles or doubles action. Tennis was added to Nintendo's "Vs." arcade range, appearing mostly unchanged in its coin-op form.

Vs. Tennis is available to download now on Nintendo Switch, priced at around $8. Here's FORTY-FIVE MINUTES of action, courtesy of YouTuber Old Classic Retro Gaming.

Cyberpunk 2077 patch addresses quest bugs, crashes and more

3 years 4 months ago

CD Projekt has issued a patch for Cyberpunk 2077 that addresses a raft of quest bugs as well as crashes.

Hotfix 1.05, which weighed in at 17.358GB for me playing on PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility, is now live on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, with PC to follow soon.

There's a long list of quest fixes. On the gameplay side of things, NPCs taking cover have improved reaction time. There are some visual fixes, including this curious tweak: "V appears more modest in the inventory preview after the half year montage ;)"

The Final Demo for Bravely Default II gives you just five hours to see as much as you can

3 years 4 months ago

Earlier this year, Nintendo and Square Enix dropped the first demo for their highly anticipated RPG Bravely Default II, the follow-up to two beloved games from the 3DS. It was our first chance to see how development was progressing since the game was first announced a little over a year ago. The demo was challenging, with the difficulty kicked up a notch and more-or-less forcing players to grind it out.

Following the demo, Square Enix opened up a survey allowing players to offer feedback that could directly affect the final product. Earlier this year, we found out just how many changes that feedback would bring, and with the new Final Demo released late last night, we can now see those changes in action.

The Final Demo takes place in the same region as the demo from this past summer. The desert kingdom of Savalon is slowly drowning as waters continue to rise, with no answers as to how. All of this takes place in the first chapter of Bravely Default II, which the demo will allow you to explore for as much as five hours. You'll receive hourly reminders that the clock is ticking down, and once you hit the five-hour mark, that playthrough will end. You can start a new file if you want to try and get further than you did on your first try.

Bleach's Yoruichi Shihouin teased in new Jump Force trailer

3 years 4 months ago

In a somewhat awkward bit of marketing, Bandai Namco has released the teaser trailer for Bleach star Yoruichi Shihouin, who will be joining the roster of anime crossover fighter Jump Force in early 2021.

I say "awkward" as Yoruichi has already joined the roster, albeit very briefly. Back in November, the seductive semi-cat gal accidentally went live in-game due to a technical mishap, before her inclusion had even been announced by the publisher. Removed from the roster in double-quick time, many fans had the opportunity to check Yoruichi out, months before her development had even completed! Still, for those of you who missed her, here's the mighty moggy in action.

Yoruichi Shihoin is the third fighter making up Jump Force's second character pass, alongside previous DLC characters Hiei from YuYu Hakusho, Shoto Todoroki from My Hero Academia, and Mereum from Hunter x Hunter. The final DLC fighter - also revealed thanks to the aforementioned glitch, will be Giorno Giovanna from the legendary anime JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

What are we all playing this weekend?

3 years 4 months ago

A dog sits in a sled pulled by a child in an illustration from 'The Children's Fairy Geography'.

This week we bid a fond farewell to freelance news rascal Nat Clayton, who’s leaving us for exciting pastures new. After a year and a half on evenings and weekends, she finished her final shift in the news mine on Thursday. Say thank you, goodbye, and good luck to Nat, gang.

And while RPS will officially be active all the way through Christmas Eve, half the staff are sacking it off early so this is a week of smaller Christmas goodbyes too. A few of us will still be around, mind. And I’ve heard the sound of cracker snaps in the treehouse so, god help us, I think Nate has been creating his own Christmas crackers with his own jokes.

What are you playing this weekend? Here’s what we’re clicking on!

Whatcha been playing this week, Destructoid?

3 years 4 months ago

I came to the realization just yesterday that we were exactly one week away from Christmas, (or at least for those of us who celebrate it). Time had completely gotten away from me, given recent events including the U.S. election, my birthday, the next-gen launch, a huge review season, and multiple IRL events. And just like that, 'tis the season, and I couldn't be less prepared.

But that's fine. The Holiday season for many of us is going to be a little different this year. A little more low-key, a little quieter and, hopefully, a little safer for everyone. And that's fine, this year is not normal and these times are not normal. There were Holidays last year and there will be Holidays next year. This year, it's up to us all to try and be a little more responsible in taking care of ourselves, our loved ones, and others. Y'all know this, but it bears repeating. I hope your preparations are going well, and that you have a lovely week.

Oh yes, video games. I've been hitting a selection of standbys this week, such as Black Ops Cold War, Fire Emblem Heroes, and Street Fighter V. We also recorded the final episode of Podtoid, which was a happy (if a tad melancholic) experience. Please check it out. Before you do that though, don't forget to jump into the comments below and fill us in on the games that are filling your time this week/weekend. Better get cramming for your end-of-the-year lists, right?

Have a safe and pleasant weekend, from all of us at Destructoid.

Tour Super Nintendo World With Shigeru Miyamoto

3 years 4 months ago

We've been waiting a long time to see what Nintendo and Universal Studios Japan has in store for fans when Super Nintendo World opens its doors in 2021, and during a special Nintendo Direct video, we got a glimpse at the soon-to-open theme park area. In the video below, you can join legendary game designer and creator of Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, and more, Shigeru Miyamoto, for a special tour of the park.

You enter Super Nintendo World, appropriately, through a giant green pipe, but the nostalgic magic doesn't stop there. When you emerge on the other side, you find yourself in the lobby of Peach's castle, as it appeared in Super Mario 64, complete with Bob-omb Battlefield painting and the Peach's Castle theme music. Miyamoto says that visitors can expect to hear a lot of tunes from the Super Mario series as they explore the park.

Super Nintendo Land in Japan Looks Fun in Nintendo Direct; Planned to Open in US & Singapore as Well

3 years 4 months ago

Today the house of Mario and Zelda aired a special Nintendo Direct broadcast featuring the upcoming theme park attraction Super Nintendo World.

The attraction is introduced directly by Shigeru Miyamoto, who provides a good look at what we can expect. It looks pretty neat.

It even comes with interactive features that link up with your smartphone.

Of course, we also see a gift shop with plenty of merch to syphon every yen out of your wallet.

There are the inevitable cafeteria and pop-corn available in Caramel Peach and Mushroom flavors. Interestingly, Miyamoto-san says that walking around while eating may seem rude. This is actually a little-known fact about Japan, where you really shouldn’t do that as it may bother others around you. Theme parks are indeed the exception to this unwritten rule.

Lastly, we hear that plans are in place to open Super Nintendo World at the Universal Studios parks in Orlando, Hollywood, and Singapore.

You can watch it below.

Call of Duty: Warzone's Stim Glitch Is Back

3 years 4 months ago

One of Call of Duty: Warzone's most infamous glitches has returned, according to a number of players. There have been reports that some players have used the glitch to hide in the storm, healing themselves over and over again, until they are the last person standing.

The glitch takes advantage of Warzone's stim, a piece of tactical equipment that quickly brings you to full health. Players have found a way to break the game and use the stim infinitely, allowing them to survive the gas. Other players are usually left alone in the final circle, doing whatever they can to survive until the storm kills them.

"I posted about the stim glitch returning last night and this is the clip from the game," said Redditor Konspiracy in a thread with another example of someone using the glitch. "Looking at the game stats, the cheater got their win with 0 kills, 11011 damage and 10971 damage taken...I’m not sure how they got so much damage without any kills."

Sony pulls Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store, offers refunds

3 years 4 months ago

UPDATE 9:30PM GMT: After Sony delisted Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store, all eyes turned to Microsoft to see whether the game would also be removed from the Xbox/Microsoft Store. Yet it seems Microsoft has taken a different approach, announcing it will expand its refund policy to all who bought Cyberpunk 2077 on its digital store.

In response to Eurogamer's request for comment, a Microsoft spokesperson gave the following statement:

"We know the developers at CD Projekt Red have worked hard to ship Cyberpunk in extremely challenging circumstances. However, we also realise that some players have been unhappy with the current experience on older consoles. To date, we have granted refunds to the vast majority of customers who have requested one.

Fortnite Parking Tickets Are Getting Ridiculous

3 years 4 months ago

Fortnite's Joy Ride update was one of the battle royale's best batches of new content in recent memory. It added semi-realistic sports cars, trucks, and sedans that are more fun to mess around with compared to Fortnite's previous set of vehicles. So it's a shame that you can't actually drive them all.

A good number of cars spread across the map are locked with a yellow boot. It's almost as if there is some sort of secret parking enforcement agency working extra hard to prevent players from having fun. Nothing ruins a plan to escape the storm faster than finding a car parked in the middle of nowhere with a boot on its tire. Some players have gotten so annoyed that they've asked Epic to add bolt cutters, an item that could break the boots, to the battle royale.

What's even worse is that Epic Games removed helicopters from the game at the beginning of Season 5. Mudflaps, the big semi-trucks, had also been removed due to a bug that made players invisible. Mudflaps have now been re-added to the game, but it seems like there are fewer ways to get around the map with every update. At least the Operation Snowdown Winter added the X-4 Stormwing planes back to the game.

What Is Even The Point Of Giving Awards To Video Games

Microsoft Flight Simulator Zenith CH701 STOL Add-On Aircraft Gets New Trailer Ahead of Release

3 years 4 months ago

Today third-party add-on developer SimWorksStudios released a new trailer of its upcoming add-on aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The Zenith CH701 STOL won’t likely fulfill your airline captain dreams, but it’s certainly well-suited for explorers.

As the name suggests (“STOL” stands for “Short Take-Off and Landing”) it’s capable to take-off in 20 meters and land in 30. That’s basically a postal stamp.

You can check out the trailer below, made by the cinematic wizards at
AviationLads.

The add-on releases on Dec. 24 and it’ll be available at the developer’s own store and Orbx.

It’ll even come with its own airfields and bush trip.
