Call of Duty Season One Brings Much-Needed Maps To Cold War, But Warzone's 'New' Map Doesn't Quite Work

3 years 4 months ago

Call of Duty’s Season One arrived earlier this week, bringing an ambitious number of new maps and modes to Black Ops Cold War and Warzone, as well as integrating the new level progression system into last year’s Modern Warfare. New maps were sorely needed and are appreciated, but the large rollout came with some…

iPlayer now works on Xbox Series S/X

3 years 4 months ago

Hurrah, iPlayer now works on Xbox Series S and X. Previously, the app was downloadable but unusable. Now, it works.

I single handedly tested this on my Xbox Series S mere moments ago, and can confirm, without a shadow of a doubt, it works. I can now watch a rerun of Sunday's episode of His Dark Materials if I like, or perhaps I can try the John le Carré adaptation, The Night Manager, which has been repromoted to mark his sad passing a few days ago. It's got a great cast.

Can you tell I am playing for time? I'm sorry. I would normally have padded this section out with a screenshot of iPlayer on Xbox Series S, but the system wouldn't let me take one!

Control Next-Gen Ultimate Edition Set For Early 2021 Launch; Performance Modes Showcased

3 years 4 months ago

Remedy Entertainment has today revealed that its upcoming next-gen version of Control Ultimate Edition is set for an early 2021 launch in a new teaser trailer showcasing its new graphical enhancements. The new version was originally slated for a launch this year before being delayed last month.

Control Ultimate Edition’s digital version will launch on Feb. 2, 2021, while a physical release is locked in for a month later on March 2, 2021. The new and improved version costs $39.99 on all platforms.

Unfortunately, those who purchased the game for previous generation hardware will not enjoy a free upgrade as has more or less become the industry norm.

What they can look forward to, though, are two different performance modes featured in the new Ultimate Edition, and today’s teaser showcases how they both work.

There’s both a performance mode and graphics mode, with the former offering 60 FPS gameplay, while the latter ups the resolution to 4k and adds ray-tracing at 30 FPS.

For more on control, you can read Twinfinite’s review of the original release here.

Control Ultimate Edition On PS5 And Series X/S Will Offer 60 FPS Performance Mode And Ray-Tracing

3 years 4 months ago
Remedy Entertainment has announced that Control Ultimate Edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S will arrive digitally on February 2, and launch as a physical version on March 2. Revealed via a tweet from the official Control Twitter account, Remedy also noted that the team is currently working on the full trailer for the next-gen version of Control Ultimate Edition, and will offer a 60 FPS Performance Mode and a 30 FPS Graphics Mode with Ray-Tracing. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/18/control-ultimate-edition-next-gen-teaser-trailer"] The teaser above offers a sneak peek at both modes in action, showing off the fluidity of performance mode and the impressive ray-tracing detail of Graphics Mode. The player can flick the setting on in the 'Display' menu and instantly see results, as protagonist Jesse is reflected in the glass panes that were previously flat. It's a nice touch that may well usher some players back to The Oldest House on their next-gen consoles, if they've been missing the spooky atmosphere of the Hiss-infested bureau. Control was our Game of the Year in 2019, and we scored it 8.8 in our launch review, noting its "captivating, oddball world." Control recently came to Xbox Game Pass in December, alongside other games like Doom Eternal and Rage 2, all of which you can check out here. Stardew Valley Update 1.5 May Still Release In 2020

3 years 4 months ago

Indie developer Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has been aiming the ambitious Stardew Valley 1.5 update for this year, but if you've looked at a calendar lately you know there's not much of this year left. But fret not, fellow farmers: Barone says he may still be able to release the update this year on PC.

In answering a fan on Twitter, Barone said it might come out on PC this year, though console players will still have to wait for early 2021. This was only a "might," so it seems he may still be working through some last remaining bugs and polish, as he said in November.

Previously, Barone has said that most of the new content is aimed at endgame players who have developed their farms, though there will be new features that players will be able to enjoy if they start from the beginning too. At least one new feature is split-screen cooperative play, which may support up to four players depending on the platform. Barone also teased a new door in the back of Willie's shop, but where it goes or what it does is unknown.

Cyberpunk 2077 crafting guide

Our Cyberpunk 2077 crafting guide will walk you through how crafting works, how to get infinite crafting components and money, how to farm Legendary crafting components, and more.

CD Projekt Red has started paying for Cyberpunk refunds out of its own pocket

3 years 4 months ago

Already in unprecedented territory, we're moving further and further into the uncharted. Hell, we're moving further and further into The Twilight Zone. Shit is downright bizarre right now.

On the heels of Sony and Microsoft both offering full refunds for people who bought Cyberpunk 2077 digitally, there have been two new developments. First, Best Buy announced that is would process refunds for people who have physical copies of the game, even if they're opened. It's a special exception that Best Buy is making considering the state of everything. That offer is good through December 21, so it's something you need to take care of this weekend.

More shocking, CD Projekt has committed to helping expedite retail refunds by reimbursing people out of its own pocket:

The Mandalorian: The History of the Darksaber Explained

3 years 4 months ago
Warning: this article contains major spoilers for The Mandalorian's story so far, through the Season 2 finale.  [poilib element="accentDivider"] The Mandalorian Season 1 introduced a weapon with a major legacy in the Star Wars universe. The Darksaber returned in the hands of Moff Gideon in the Season 1 finale, with Season 2 subsequently introducing one of the Darksaber's previous owners in the form of Katee Sackhoff's Bo-Katan Kryze. And with the darksaber now in the hands of Mando himself following the Mandalorian Season 2 finale, it's safe to say this blade will continue to play a big part in the series. If you're confused as to why everyone seems so fixated on a black lightsaber, fear not. Here's everything you need to know about the Darksaber and how it ties the series back to the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

What is the Darksaber in The Mandalorian?

The Darksaber is unique among all the lightsabers in the Star Wars universe. It has a flat, katana-like blade rather than the traditional saber shape. It emits a peculiar, low hum. Even its color is unlike any other - deep black with a bright white halo. The Darksaber is one of the most important artifacts in Mandalorian culture. It was created by an ancient warrior named Tarre Vizsla, the first (and as far as we currently know, only) Mandalorian to be inducted into the Jedi Order.

An image of Horace the endless bear wrapped around a Christmas tree, for the RPS advent calendar 2020.

It’s taken a long time to get this far in the RPS Advent Calendar. We’ve conquered mountains, waded across rivers, we’ve even built some roads along the way. It’s been a journey, but at least we didn’t have to do it alone. So please get your holographic signature at the ready. It’s time to take delivery of door number 18.

You can't miss the Bloodborne and Shadow of the Colossus special outfits in Ghost of Tsushima

3 years 4 months ago

You already look stylish when you're slicing and dicing in Ghost of Tsushima, doubly so when you're hacking away in black-and-white mode. Add to the aesthetic by infusing your samurai warrior with Kratos, just as Kurosawa intended.

Sucker Punch has brought some of PlayStation's all-time great games to Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, the co-op focused multiplayer mode (that's surprisingly really good). Until January 15, you can unlock outfits from Bloodborne, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Shadow of the Colossus. Images of all four are in the gallery below.

Each costume is tied to a different class; complete a single story or survival mission to unlock the costume of whichever class you played as. For example, clear a mission as the Hunter to earn Aloy's outfit. Kratos is the Samurai, Aloy is the Hunter, Shadow of the Colossus is the Assassin, and Bloodborne is the Ronin.

New looks from some of PlayStation's heaviest hitters. It won't be long until future games get Ghost of Tsushima skins. It's that good. It's just a shame that Sucker Punch couldn't find a way to shoehorn an inFamous outfit in. I'd play as Delsin, the beanie-wearing samurai.

Sony removed Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store

3 years 4 months ago

Johnny Silverhand in a Cyberpunk 2077 screenshot.

While Cyberpunk 2077 is a mess, especially on consoles, I was not expecting Sony to straight-up remove the game from their download store. While folks who bought it there can still play it, Sony have pulled Cyberpunk from sale on the PlayStation Store as they introduced an open refund policy. Others can still buy the game on the vintage tech known as ‘a disc’. But while the situation was certainly sparked by the state of the game, this particular move seems ultimately to be about refunds.

The Epic Games Store has launched its Holiday Sale - and also brought back its limitless £10 coupon promotion that'll save you even more money on a whole host of digital PC games.

All you need to do is log in to the EGS and claim your voucher from the store page. From there, it'll be automatically applied on any purchase of £13.99 or over (except pre-orders). Riot Is Making a League of Legends MMO, According to a Studio Executive

3 years 4 months ago

Developer Riot Games is set to expand its popular League of Legends universe with its first MMO. The news comes by of a Tweet from Greg Street, vice president of intellectual property and entertainment, who candidly replied to one fan’s question asking about the nature of his new role with the studio.

Street had earlier made an announcement that he was heading up development efforts on a new project that fans were eagerly awaiting.

Soon after, one fan wishlisted an MMO in exuberant fashion, and Street simply responded:

It was a rather nonchalant way of revealing a game that League of Legends fans have, indeed, long been hankering for. Although, the confirmation is perhaps not all that unexpected given Riot Games’ string of announcements last year revealing several new projects, as well as a general shift in strategy to branch out and expand the IP.

Walking Dead's Daryl, once again without Merle, appears in another video game crossover

3 years 4 months ago

There was a time when Merle and Daryl (otherwise known as Merlin Derle) were a united front.

They appeared in games together! But now that truce is broken. Norman Reedus is just too popular and it's been a long time since Michael Rooker exited the show (ain't got time to bleed when you're in the MCU!). It's still very much Daryl's time. The newest crossover? Fornite.

As the newest pair of skins, Daryl is joined by another fan-favorite: Michonne. This is sort of incorporated into the story, which is currently dealing with the aftermath of Galactus' destruction of the Fornite world, as the main powers-that-be search for "hunters" to aid them. So far, the Mandolorian has entered the fray, along with Kratos and Master Chief.

That hunter theme, and the partnership between both Sony and Microsoft respectively, has folks highly anticipating a Nintendo crossover. The most obvious choice is Samus (otherwise known as the crawling "Metroid"), but Nintendo could also just not participate at all. We'll see!

For now you can get Daryl, Michonne, and various bits and bobs of realistic looking weaponry for V-Bucks.

Riot announce League Of Legends MMO… in a tweet to a fan

3 years 4 months ago

Last night, my Twitter feed was all abuzz about Riot Games announcing a League Of Legends MMO. However, this excitement didn’t come from the reveal itself, but more the way it was it was revealed. There was no big marketing ploy or tantalising teaser trailer, nope – a Riot executive just casually tweeted it out.

I bet their PR department are having a field day.

Monster Hunter Rise continues its celebration of head-mashers with the Gunlance and the Insect Glaive

3 years 4 months ago

If there's one thing to be said for Capcom's upcoming Switch release Monster Hunter Rise, it's certainly not sending you into battle without a decent loadout. Following on from previous videos looking at the Hammer, the Lance, the Dual-Blade, and the Bowgun, the publisher has dropped two more trailers focusing on further weapons in the Hunter's arsenal, namely the Gunlance and the Insect Glaive.

Combining the best of both mid and long-range capabilities, the Gunlance is a deliberate but powerful weapon, capable of letting loose with explosive firepower, while doubling up as a heavy-hitting melee tool. While not the most agile of weapons on offer, the Gunlance allows hunters to pick at their prey from a distance, before moving in for the kill when the tide of the battle swings their way.
