Today in Big Numbers news: HP have launched a Black Friday sale in their own store, with a particularly mahoosive cut to the RTX 4080 version of their Omen 17 gaming laptop. It’s been struck down from £3800 to £2100 in the UK, a saving to the tune one £1700 – one very Big Number indeed.

Another Omen 17 variant, still with an RTX 4080 GPU (but trading an even more powerful Intel chip for less RAM and storage), is also getting the Black Friday treatment in the US. Albeit with a $500 saving, which I understand is not as Big a Number, and is thus less deserving of going in the headline.

Bandai Namco revealed a character trailer for Leo Kliesen for Tekken 8. This trailer is one of several showing off the remaining cast of returning characters ahead of the game’s release on January 26, 2024.

In the new trailer, Leo can be seen facing off against Jin Kazama and Azucena, with their Rage Art featuring them swinging on a grappling hook. Leo first appeared in Tekken 6 as an explorer seeking answers for his mother’s death. He seemingly has a connection to Azucena, as the trailer features the two engaging in a special intro.

While the full roster for Tekken 8 has been revealed, multiple characters have yet to receive individual character trailers. Leo had previously been confirmed for Tekken 8 in the Gamescom 2023 trailer, alongside Dragunov, Shaheen, Steve and Yoshimitsu. More trailers are set to be revealed for these characters ahead of the game’s release.

Sony must face a £5bn lawsuit that alleges gamers have been repeatedly overcharged for PlayStation products, following a decision this week by the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal.

The lawsuit was originally filed in August 2022 by ex-managing director of Which? UK Alex Neill, on behalf of UK PlayStation users.

Neill's application for a collective proceedings order against Sony accuses the PlayStation maker of anti-competitive practices such as imposing unfair terms on developers and forcing prices up for consumers.

Bandai Namco announced that Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown surpassed 5 million units sold worldwide. To celebrate the milestone, the company shared new desktop wallpapers on the game's website. It also released a remix soundtrack and a recorded album from the 2021 orchestra concert on digital platforms like Spotify and YouTube Music.

Ace Combat 7 is the newest entry in the flight shooting game series that takes place in an alternate version of Earth known as Strangereal. The game is known for pitting modern fighter aircraft from the real world against gigantic superweapons like the Arsenal Bird and fictional cutting-edge aircraft, such as the X-02S Strike Wyvern. Bandai Namco had finished adding content to the game with crossover content from Top Gun: Maverick and The Idolm@ster in 2022.

If you are in the mood for a game about dancing around screens full of energy beams and projectiles, searching for that fleeting window of space in which you can stop and perform an attack, I recommend trying the demo for Ninja Issen. If you miss 8 or 16-bit platformers like Shinobi or the original Ninja Gaiden, I also recommend trying the demo for Ninja Issen. If you liked The Messenger - classique Ninja Gaiden's greatest heir - but wished it was More Cyberpunk with cheesy PG-rated holographic dancing girls and Comix Zone-style story panels, I also also recommend trying the demo for Ninja Issen.

Out today, it's the work of solo Korean dev Asteroid-J, and based on the first level, is pretty decent. It does have quite a lot of dialogue for a ninja platformer, but the dialogue is tongue-in-cheek, and hopefully it'll fall by the wayside as you push beyond the tutorial sections.

There's some bad news if you were hoping to get your Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 fix anytime soon; publisher Focus Entertainment has announced a substantial delay for the third-person sci-fi shooter, which is now expected to arrive in the second half of next year.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 - which follows the continuing adventures of original series protagonist Ultramarines Space Marine Lieutenant Titus (this time voiced by Clive Standen) - was originally due to launch in "winter" this year, but Focus has now announced a delay as part of an "update on execution of the line-up and partnerships".

As per Focus' revised release schedule, Space Marine 2 - which is being developed by Saber Interactive - will now launch for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC in the "second half of 2024", with Focus saying the delay will "provide the time needed to properly polish the game and to ensure the best possible experience".

It is now possible to check and your Zenless Zone Zero Equalizing Test qualification status for the November 2023 closed beta. Emails went out and the official site updated. 

As a reminder, this beta test begins on November 24, 2023. People will be able to try it on both PCs and mobile devices. HoYoVerse didn’t note exactly how many people would be able to take part. However, it did say they’d need 15-17GB free on mobile devices and 40GB free on PCs.

The first way to check your Zenless Zone Zero Equalizing Test qualification status is to check your inbox for a closed beta test email from notifications@official.hoyoverse.com. HoYoVerse noted that this could have ended up accidentally going to spam. If someone entered via some sort of contest, they should check social media for a direct message or look to see if they are on the list of winners on social media.

In the death throes of last December, I wrote about all the games I wanted to review in 2022 but eventually ran out of time for when we finally packed up the Treehouse for Christmas and took our annual turkey nap. It was quite a long list, all things considered, I will probably still end up making another one by the time this year's annual meat snooze rolls around, too. 2023 has arguably been stuffed with even more good games than we had last year, and I will be the first to admit that my eyes are, indeed, frequently too big for what I can feasibly hope to play in any given month.

But I also thought it would also be fun to get ahead of the game slightly by turning some of my remaining supporter posts for the year into a kind of extended I'M SORRY: 2023 Edition series, talking about games I have actually liked and played, but which a) didn't end up making it onto my personal GOTY list (just to keep you Advent Calender guessing gamers on your toes), and b) we also weren't able to review on the site, either due to lack of time, code or, well, no, it's really just time. Time is our eternal enemy. And the first game I'd like to talk about is Tron: Identity.

Subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online's highest tier, the expansion pack, have access to an ever-growing catalog of modern and classic games, including a small library of N64 games. In December, that expansion pack is expanding a little more, as Jet Force Gemini is coming to the service.

First released in 1999, Jet Force Gemini is a third-person shooter developed by Rare, the studio originally known for the Banjo-Kazooie games, but most recently known for Sea of Thieves. It's set on a sci-fi alien world, where players blast through hordes of insect-like creatures.

The most recent way players could experience the game on modern consoles was through Rare Replay, a compilation of classic Rare games released on the Xbox One in 2015.  For a refresher on the game, check out this 60-second rundown Rare put out a few years back.

The Switch Online currently includes 26 other N64 games, including the recently added Excitebike 64. It also includes Game Boy Advance games, Sega Genesis games, and DLC content for popular Switch titles, like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing. For the full list, check out our rundown here.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, one fan has released an animated short of Castle Town reimagined as a setting in a Studio Ghibli film.

YouTuber RwanLink said the environment and characters took four months to make in Unreal Engine 5, and totals to over 600 hours of work whilst also in a full-time job.

The short video follows Link as he leaves Kokiri Forest for Hyrule Castle, and we bump into some familiar faces such as Malon, the Happy Mask Shop Owner, and even Skyward Sword's Fi skating around the Master Sword.

“Just for your information, the Deluxe Edition is not a limited edition and stock is holding steady, with more waves being prepared within the first quarter of 2024 shipping window, so if you see them online being resold based on confirmed preorders at higher prices, skip it,” Michael Douse, Larien's director of publishing, said on X/Twitter. “There won’t be stock scarcity.”

He added: “We confirmed a minimum order but we already blitzed past that in the first day, and the first quarter shipping date allows us to simply increase wave sizes without jeapordizing the shipping date so we [don’t] expect any issues within that four-month buffer window. Weirdly organise, considering it’s us.”

Nvidia don’t really make budget graphics cards anymore, so it’s up to the Black Friday sales to provide the next best thing: price-slashed mid-rangers. This RTX 4060 deal is just the ticket, with Amazon UK trimming down the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4060 Windforce OC to £274. That’s less, by the way, than most last-gen RTX 3060 cards are currently going for, even those partaking in Black Friday themselves.

One of the first ways Fortnite was able to prove its mainstream success was by introducing popular real-world people into the game. Whether it's Travis Scott, Lebron James, or Patrick Mahomes, it's become a sort of Hollywood Star of Fame to be featured in Epic Games' hit shooter. Today. Marshall Mathers joins the club – Eminem is coming to Fortnite. 

The Grammy winner will be added to the game's item shop on November 29. The image above shows the three versions of the rapper that will be available for purchase. From left to right, they're called Rap Boy, Slim Shady, and Marshall Never More. This release comes a few days ahead of Fortnite's Big Bang event, which is set to happen on December 2 at 2 PM Eastern. Alongside whatever world-altering event phenomena Epic plans to introduce, Eminem will be performing a live concert. Attendees will receive the Big Bang loading screen, featured at the head of this article.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has claimed Google offered him what "seemed like a crooked arrangement" in order to persuade the company to release Fortnite in the Google Play Store rather than through its own website.

Sweeney made the statement when he took to the witness stand yesterday in the ongoing trial between Epic and Google.

As reported by AP, Sweeney described a meeting between himself and Google at the latter's headquarters to discuss an agreement which would see Epic release Fortnite on the Play Store. "It seemed like a crooked arrangement," Sweeney said. "Google was proposing a series of side deals which seemed designed to convince Epic not to compete against them," he continued.

Kodansha has revealed a new merchandise set featuring a crossover between The Quintessential Quintuplets and Sanrio characters. The set is immediately available for purchase in Japanese stores at 1,980 yen (~$13.32). It contains five clear files and five wedding forms; each decorated with a member of the Nakano quintuplets being paired with Hello Kitty and other Sanrio characters.

Best Switch Black Friday 2023 Deals on Consoles

With the Switch, there really aren’t any special deals this year. Rather, there’s a Black Friday bundle. It’s an OLED model with a custom Super Smash Bros Ultimate design and a digital copy of the fighting game. It’s $349.99 at pretty much every retailer. So if you go to stores like Amazon, Best Buy, and Target, it will be there.

There’s also the standard $199.99 Switch Lite. Target is advertising an Isabelle’s Aloha Edition, which is pink and doesn’t come with any game.

As the 20th mainline instalment in the Call of Duty series, Modern Warfare 3 defies the odds this year in the wake of rumours suggesting its accelerated development. Despite reports suggesting Modern Warfare 3 was originally meant as an expansion to 2022's Modern Warfare 2 and despite reports that the game's been in development for less than 18 months, it has in fact materialised as a fully-fledged release. In terms of what you'd expect from Call of Duty, the core components are all there, albeit with a diminished campaign and a lack of brand-new 6v6 multiplayer levels - but our focus here is more on the technical aspects of the game. The IW9 engine continues to impress, but there are signs that the signature polish on the experience isn't quite up to snuff for all users. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X fare well, but Series S seems to take a hit compared to previous franchise entries.

MW3 doesn't skimp on the options, though it does use the same front-end menu as last year's game - now called the COD HQ. Here everything Modern Warfare 3 is laid out on its own row: multiplayer, ground war, and the zombies mode. We get a new campaign mode too of course - 14 story missions, many of which boast the linear, often bombastic, set-piece heavy design we expect of the series. Except, these are now mixed in with new, open world style missions letting us loose on large sandbox areas. Between planting GPS trackers across a fortified dock, or blowing up helicopters around a military compound, these open areas are the biggest departure from the Call of Duty formula.

A very recent addition to the RPS best gaming monitor list has shed some cash in the Black Friday – and happily, it was already pretty good value to begin with. MSI’s MAG 274UPF doesn’t skimp on picture quality, despite having one of the lower RRPs for a 4K monitor, and now that it’s dropped to £449 / $380, it’s an even better proposal to PC owners who are as sensitive to expenditure as they are hungry for pixels.
