The Witcher and Geralt of Rivia Joining Destiny 2

5 months 2 weeks ago

Destiny 2

Bungie and CD Projekt Red are collaborating to bring armor inspired by The Witcher series and Geralt of Rivia to Destiny 2. The armor sets are scheduled to arrive alongside the Season of the Wish on November 28, 2023.

The collaboration will bring 3 new armor sets, one each for the Titan, Hunter, and Warlock. The armor will be usable with the game's transmog system so players won't have to sacrifice stats for style. As well as armor, there will also be skins for players' Ghosts and Ships, a new Sparrow hoverbike, as well as a new finisher. Going by previous collaborations with games like Fortnite and Assassin's Creed, the items will likely be available as part of a pack, as well as individually.

The Bungie store will also be having a sale starting November 24, 2023, including fixed rates on shipping and previously retired Bungie rewards.

You can get a look at the armor sets, Ghost shell and Ship in the image below:

Starfield Patch 1.8.86

Bethesda released the 1.8.86 patch notes for the latest Starfield update, which is available now. This brings with it the option to immediately consume food found in the environment in Starfield, as well as support for Nvidia DLSS.

The ability to eat items in the game world was apparantly added by popular request. Prior to this patch, players would need to pick up the food, then navigate to the Starfield inventory screen to eat it.

It also adds support for Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) tech for PC players with compatible Nvidia graphics cards, including options for DLSS super resolution, Nvidia Reflex low latency, and Deep Learning anti-aliasing. Other updates include general perfomance and stability improvements and fixes to bugs that could occur when starting New Game+.

Here are the full patch notes from the Bethesda website, which starts with the Starfield food and DLSS additions:

The wired G Pro X is RPS' official pick for the best premium gaming headset, and right now you can grab the wireless version for a much more attainable price.

Vote Opens to Determine Best Monster Hunter Monster

5 months 2 weeks ago

Monster Hunter 20th Vote

Capcom is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Monster Hunter by holding a vote to decide which of the series' 229 monsters is "best" and most popular. Voting will end on December 20, 2023, with the top three monsters appearing in an original illustration by the Monster Hunter development team.

Voting will require a Capcom ID, and the poll is limited to one vote per account. If you don't already have an account, you can create a Capcom ID for free here. Once logged in, you can browse the list of monsters, search by name, or even filter based on type (bird wyvern, fanged beast, elder dragon etc.) The list is pretty comprehensive, but does not seem to include monsters unique to the Monster Hunter MMO's like Frontier and Online. By voting, you will also receive access to an anniversary wallpaper, available in 1080 x 1920 or 2160 x 3840 dimensions.

You can find the announcement tweet with a link to the survey below:

One Piece Live-Action Actors Pose Alongside Manga Characters in New Art

The official One Piece social media account shared an array of art featuring the live-action actors alongside their manga counterpart characters. There are five images in the MANGAxLIVE-ACTION GRAND LINE, HERE WE COME line.

Many of the images are designed in such a way that the art of the One Piece characters from the outset of the manga overlap with the person. So in the case of the Roronoa Zoro piece, his right arm and sword hilt are in the forefront over Mackenyu. In the Usopp image, the character art features his slingshot and left arm over Jacob Romero Gibson’s left shoulder.

Get almost half price off the Logitech G915 Lightspeed Wireless keyboard for Black Friday

5 months 2 weeks ago

Let's face it, wires are a necessary evil at best, and we should strive to avoid them as much as possible. They get tangled, they trip you up, and they're generally a nuisance. No wonder Darth Vader was grumpy all the time. He was full of wires.

Few manufacturers understand this better than Logitech, whose G915 Lightspeed Wireless keyboard has been the ideal way to type without tethers for years. It combines a slim yet robust build quality with wonderfully tactile keys, incredibly fast response times, respectable battery life, and a truly standout volume wheel. Perhaps for that reason, the G915 Lightspeed has also maintained its lofty price point, with an RRP of around £220. But as part of Amazon's Black Friday sale, you can currently grab the best wireless keyboard for almost half price. It's currently available for £125 in the UK, and $160 in the US, which is 46% and 36% off respectively.

Earn a Free Freminet in Genshin Impact with Thelxie’s Fantastic Adventures

Earn a Free Freminet in Genshin Impact with Thelxie's Fantastic Adventures

HoYoVerse offered an update on when people can earn a free Freminet in Genshin Impact via the Thelxie's Fantastic Adventures event. Everything begins on November 23, 2023.

Things start with both the first act of a quest and one minigame in the event. On November 23, 2023 is when Act 1, Motherboard Troubleshooting, Record of the Search for Glory will be available. If you are at Adventure Rank 20 and completed the Archon Quest Prologue: Act 3 "Song of the Dragon and Freedom,” you can jump into it. However, HoYoVerse did recommend that people finish the Fontaine Archon Quest storyline by going through the Chapter 4 Act 5 mission “Masquerade of the Guilty,” due to this being a Fontaine event and involving characters from there.

There are three types of minigames during the event, as well as three Acts for its quests. The first minigame is Motherboard Troubleshooting and involves arranging circuits to conduct a current to a certain place. In Record of the Search for Glory, you use an Echoing Conch to find where Iridescent Glories are that you need to get. The third minigame is Purgation Counterstrike, which opens up on November 25, 2023 alongside Act 2 of the event story. That’s the combat challenge portion of the event.

Teardown is a visual, physical showcase on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles

5 months 2 weeks ago

Looking for something different, original and distinctive? After years available on PC, Teardown has finally appeared on the current generation consoles - and by and large, it's terrific. As an extra bonus, it's currently one of the free games on the PlayStation Plus subscription package - and I encourage you to check it out.

Teardown is a fascinating game from the Digital Foundry perspective as its rendering and simulation systems are quite different from the vast majority of titles out there. Like many of the most iconic games of the last 30 years, the core tech behind Teardown is the main enabler of its gameplay systems. At the core of the game are the voxels which make up the game world. It gives the game its low-fi/hi-fi aesthetic, where each and every object in the game you see has a deformed Lego-esque look to it, with all detailed comprised of blocky bits arranged into recognisable shapes we all intuitively understand, Minecraft-style.

Those voxels are not just show, however, as they drive and enable how the game is rendered and how it is played. When combined together into the shapes and objects of the game, each voxel has weighted constraints to it and distinct material properties. So, different objects react differently to different physical forces: some, like wood, come apart into tiny pieces easily with the swing of your hammer, while others like certain metals are more robust and require more violent or explosive treatment to break apart.

New Cardcaptor Sakura and Sanrio Figures Coming Out Soon

5 months 2 weeks ago

cardcaptor sakura sanrio figures

Gashapon Online will start selling a new series of Cardcaptor Sakura and Sanrio mascot figures from November 21, 2023. In total, there are ten to collect. [Thanks, Dengeki Hobby!]

There are two collections that are part of this collaboration. They are the Kirakira Perfume Versions and the Sakura Collection. The Sakura Collection features four miniature Sakura figures wearing outfits that look like a combination of clothing she wore from the Cardcaptor Sakura show, but with a Sanrio twist. For example, one of the outfits looks like the black-and-pink cat-themed costume she wore while fighting The Thunder. However, the ears look like Kuromi’s. Other outfits take inspiration from My Melody, Pompompurin, and Cinnamoroll.

The Kirakira Perfume collection has five figures of Sanrio mascots—Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi, Pompompurin, and Cinnamoroll—wearing the outfits that Sakura wore in the Sakura Collection. Again, for example, Kuromi is wearing the black-and-pink outfit Sakura wore. The outfit that Sakura and Hello Kitty share has a more regal design. It has a long red dress and a crown (in Hello Kitty’s case).

Flashback 2 review: a broken travesty of a retro revival

5 months 2 weeks ago

As a piece of nostalgia, Flashback 2 didn’t remind me of Delphine’s 1992 Amiga puzzle platforming classic so much as some more infamous fragments of gaming’s past. Like the Attic bug in Jet Set Willy, for example, which made the game impossible to complete, or the unfeasibly strict time limit in a level of Robocop on the Commodore 64, which legend has it was reduced intentionally to hide glitches on the subsequent stage. Indeed, the chances of seeing the final parts of Flashback 2 in its current state seem so remote, you have to wonder what state they’d be in when you got there.

Court documents reveal Google considered partnering with Tencent to take over Epic

5 months 2 weeks ago

Court documents from the ongoing Epic Games vs Google antitrust case reveal the internet giant wanted to take over the Fortnite and Unreal Engine developer, and was willing to work with shareholder Tencent to complete a buyout.

A quick reminder of how we got here: in August 2020, Epic implemented a method to circumvent Apple and Google fees on in-game payments in the iOS and Android versions of Fortnite. The two platform-holders swiftly retaliated by pulling the game from their storefronts. Epic subsequently filed lawsuits against both Apple and Google, and the case against Apple was settled in September 2021 in favour of Apple on nine of 10 counts. Earlier this year, the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the rulings after appeals from both parties.

Now Epic is back in court to wage its case against Google. While the court battle between Epic and Apple brought us the bizarre moment in which banana mascot Peely's decency was questioned in (apologies, in the tuxedo he's known as Agent Peely), so far the proceedings with Google have been revealing in a slightly different way.

Epic Games Reveals Fortnite's Next Live Event, The Big Bang

Fortnite Chapter 4: Season OG 5 The Big Bang Live Event

After four seasons of brand new content, Epic Games injected a healthy dose of nostalgia into Fornite Chapter 4's fifth season, officially called Season OG, by bringing back the Chapter 1 map for players to experience once more. Season OG has included weekly updates to add items from Chapter 1's various seasons, too, making it a fun romp through what Fortnite was like years ago. However, Season OG ends on December 2, which is also when Fortnite's next live event, The Big Bang, goes live.

The Big Bang begins on Saturday, December 2, at 11 a.m. PT/2 p.m. ET, and Epic says, "This event marks a new beginning for Fortnite."

Before the event begins, Epic says players will see The Big Bang in the Battle Royale tile in the Discover section of Fortnite 30 minutes prior to its start; that way, you can jump in before the event starts to link up with friends and get your cosmetics in order. And speaking of friends, The Big Bang will support parties of up to four players.
