Reviewed on: PC
Platform: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC

Release:

Stray is a game about being a cat. You see, explore, and mess with the world in the ways only they can. Because you're doing so in one of the more densely-packed video game worlds in recent memory, there's plenty of room for kitty antics. Luckily, Stray wastes no moment letting you fulfill any feline aspirations you may have.

After being separated from their furry friends, the unnamed cat (we'll call "Stray") finds itself deep in an underground city walled off from the outside by a giant dome. Befriending a small drone named B12, Stray sets out to open the city, the wish of many of its android citizens, who have heard rumors but never once seen the sun, clouds, and the like.

How to Watch Hajime no Ippo in Order

1 year 9 months ago

While the story of Hajime no Ippo is a straightforward sports anime plot about becoming the best, watching it play out is anything but. The series’ anime adaptation has multiple series, movies, and specials with different names, and said names don’t offer much clarity on where they belong in the timeline. That’s why we’re here to break down how to watch Hajime no Ippo in order and make sure you don’t see a moment out of place.

All Hajime no Ippo Seasons & Episodes in Order

Ippo’s Rise to Japanese Champion Group

  1. Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting! (Ep. 1-75)
    • Special Episode 1: Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting! – Boxer’s Fist (Ep. 76)
    • Movie 1: Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting! – Champion Road
    • OVA 1: Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting! – Mashiba vs. Kimura

Title Defenses and Title Matches Group

  1. Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting! – New Challenger (Ep. 77-102)
  2. Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting! – Rising (Ep. 103-127)

It’s best to think of the Hajime no Ippo anime as being split into two specific groups of arcs.

The first is focused on protagonist Makunouchi Ippo’s rise toward becoming the Japanese Featherweight Champion, and is comprised of the bulk of the show’s episodes via its first season. All of these episodes are shown in order with no filler episodes, so you won’t have to do anything special while watching them.

After that, there’s one special episode, one movie, and one OVA, all of which are canon and cover relevant material. The best order to watch these in is the special episode first, followed by the movie and then the OVA.

NZXT are making gaming monitors now, and they’re lookin’ sharp

1 year 9 months ago

NZXT, having previously expanded from PC cases and coolers into motherboards, microphones, mice, and keyboards, have now launched a pair of 1440p gaming monitors as well. Far from being just another PC hardware thing to check off, they look like they might be alright?

Both hit the 2560x1440 resolution with a 165Hz refresh rate, with the Canvas 27QHD being a flat 27in screen and the Canvas 32QHD Curved being 32in and… well, curved. They support AMD FreeSync Premium, meaning they should work with Nvidia G-Sync as well, and come with anti-glare coatings to see off reflections.

God of War: Ragnarök Gets Its First Full Story Synopsis

1 year 9 months ago

Sony has released the first full-length plot synopsis for God of War Ragnarok, giving fans a little bit more information on what to expect in long-awaited sequel.

Revealed on the PlayStation Store (and spotted by The Gamer), the new synopsis replaces a much more bare-bones version we saw previously. It confirms that game will not just take place during Ragnarök - the grand final battle of Norse mythology that traditionally sees Odin, Loki and other gods die - but also during the events immediately preceding it, a Norse saga known as Fimbulwinter.

"From Santa Monica Studio comes the sequel to the critically acclaimed God of War (2018), the synopsis begins. "Fimbulwinter is well underway. Kratos and Atreus must journey to each of the Nine Realms in search of answers as Asgardian forces prepare for a prophesied battle that will end the world.

"Along the way they will explore stunning, mythical landscapes, and face fearsome enemies in the form of Norse gods and monsters. The threat of Ragnarök grows ever closer. Kratos and Atreus must choose between their own safety and the safety of the realms."

Kotobukiya Will Release Renne Bright Figure From the Trails Series

1 year 9 months ago

Trails Into Reverie Renne Bright is getting a figure

Kotobukiya will produce and release a new figure modeled after Renne Bright from Nihon Falcom's The Legend of Heroes series. The company has yet to show a prototype of the character, who debuted in Trails in the Sky SC. However, it used Renne's image from Trails Into Reverie when it made the announcement.

Renne Bright will be the fifth character from Nihon Falcom's Trails series to have a figure made by Kotobukiya. The company has previously released figures of Altina Orion and Rean Schwarzer from the Trails of Cold Steel series. In February 2022, it announced new figures based on Rixia Mao and Crow Armbrust's appearances in Trails Into Reverie.

The announcement page for the Renne Bright figure also shows new images of unpainted prototypes for Rixia's and Crow's figures. One of the images of Crow's figure puts him side-by-side with a finished Rean Schwarzer figure.

DF Direct Weekly on Bayonetta 3, Matrix Awakens delisted and Prime Day pickups

1 year 9 months ago

It's the DF Skeleton Crew! With the three most experienced DF Directers out - Rich on holiday, John on holiday and Alex out sick - it's time for Will, Tom and Oliver to step into the limelight for a Direct.

In this episode we cover the new Skate and Bayonetta 3 announcements, going over our expectations for the games based on the early footage - and our belief that playing leaked builds can sometimes spoil the final game.

We also react to the recent delisting of the Matrix Awakens on consoles, so soon after it debuted, and try to explain why Nvidia is discounting its higher tier graphics cards - and whether they're even worth buying anyway with a new generation of RTX 40-series GPUs thought to be very close.

Hearts Of Iron IV Video Introduces Free Update Coming With By Blood Alone Expansion

1 year 9 months ago

Today Paradox Entertainment released a new video of its World War II strategy game Hearts Of Iron IV, focusing on the upcoming free update titled “Avalanche.”

The update is paired with the paid expansion “By Blood Alone” which is coming soon for the game, but it’ll be free for everyone who has purchased the game.

It’ll include a big rebalance of peace conferences, which were all kinds of exploitable before, on top of sweeping changes to air and naval battles.

This is just a “part one” video so it’s likely that we can expect more big changes in part two.

You can watch it below and hear it all from game director Peter Nicholson, UX designer Peter Johannesson and game developers Robert Dotson and Bradley Faithfull-Wright.

The “By Blood Alone” expansion will bring the much-awaited (and sorely, sorely needed) overhaul to the Italian forces, which have been neglected for the longest time, alongside similar reworks for Ethiopia and Switzerland.

We’re also getting a brand new aircraft designer feature similar to the ones we have for tanks and ships, new unit models, a feature that will let you embargo enemies, and much more.

At the moment, a release date has not been announced just yet, so we’ll have to wait and see.

Anya Proves Her Strength to Saitama Once and for All

1 year 9 months ago

If you’re an anime fan, there’s a good chance you’ve gotten into, or at least seen, a debate regarding who the stronger character is from each respective show in the genre. One name that comes up quite often is Saitama, the star of the show One Punch Man.

As the title of the anime suggests, Saitama is so powerful that he manages to defeat just about every one of his opponents with a single punch. But what would happen if the Caped Baldy went up against arguably the most popular new, and adorable, character in all of anime? Well, that is exactly what this fan-made edit of Anya vs Saitama dives into below.

Yes, that’s right, one of the most powerful characters in anime is done in by Spy x Family’s adorable newcomer, Anya Forger. In the hilarious video above, Anya is able to take down Saitama with a Waku Waku punch, proving once and for all who the stronger character is.

Obviously, the fan-made edit by Youtuber Animeiko is an exaggeration, but that doesn’t make it any less funny. Add in the fact that it uses lines from each show and even sees the two playing video games together at the end, and it is pretty hard not to crack a smile when watching this parody.

SNK Heroines Terry Bogard figure

The female version of Terry Bogard that debuted in SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy will appear as a figure. Kotobukiya has published a new page for the Terry Bogard Bishoujo Statue on its website. The immovable 1/7 scale PVC figure will be available for sale in Spring 2023.

Kotobukiya had previously announced plans to produce a figure of SNK Heroines' Terry Bogard at the December 2021 MegaHobby Expo. Back then, the company only showed Shunya Yamashita's illustration of the character. The new webpage shows a painted prototype of the figure. However, Kotobukiya also noted that the final product may look different. It is still awaiting approval from SNK as the character's licensor.

The female Terry Bogard is the second character to have a figure in Kotobukiya's SNK Bishoujo lineup. The first figure featuring Mai Shiranui will release in August 2022 in Japan. Kotobukiya will also produce at least two more figures based on SNK's female characters. Athena Asamiya will be the next character to have a figure.

Tower defence deckbuilder ORX gets a second faction that ditches castles for arrow-lobbing armies

1 year 9 months ago

Well, this is a pleasant surprise. When I first sampled the tower defence deckbuilding delights of ORX a couple of months ago, I'd assumed that we'd be playing as the demo's medieval castle builders throughout. Today, however, devs Johnbell have announced a brand-new faction for the game, the sand-loving Dune Reavers. Even more intriguing, though, is that the Dune Reavers aren't actually big fans of building, you know, towers, favouring instead the brute force approach of their large armies. Can you still call it tower defence if there aren't any towers involved? Decide for yourself by watching the new gameplay trailer below.

What it takes to be a great game producer

1 year 9 months ago

The value of skilled producers in game development simply cannot be overstated. Without these unsung heroes and heroines overseeing workflows and processing many moving parts, most games would likely churn forever in development hell.

But what makes a good producer great? And who makes for strong (even if unexpected) candidates to step into this role?

Producers in our industry cover a wide range of responsibilities, depending on where you look. In-house producers juggle many needs across a studio's internal teams alongside any outside partners, while those outside of fully integrated studios often manage a tighter scope of products and processes in collaboration across multiple developers at once.

As Dusk Falls: Should You Free the Hostage at the Start of Book 2? Answered

1 year 9 months ago

At the very beginning of As Dusk Falls’ Book 2, Expansion, players will have the choice to let Jay free the hostage from the back of the car while his mother and brother are talking. But should you do it? What are the consequences for doing so? Here’s everything you need to know.

Should You Free Vince or Zoe as Jay in As Dusk Falls?

The short answer is yes, you should let either Vince or Zoe go as Jay at the very beginning of Book 2.

While you may worry that letting them go may have some negative repercussions for Jay, the worst that happens is he gets shouted at for doing so. There’s not major story impact for letting them free, other than you’ll get a nice cutscene where Vince and his family are all reunited together again.

If it’s Vince who is the hostage, he’ll make a run for it and eventually find his way back to his family. Nothing more is really elaborated on outside of this in the narrative about how he returned, though.

We’re still investigating what happens if you choose not to free the hostage and the full implications of it, but if your heart’s telling you to let them go, we’d say go for it. It’s not going to come back to haunt you that badly.

That’s everything you need to know on whether or not you should free the hostage at the start of Book 2 in As Dusk Falls. For more tips and tricks on the game, be sure to search for Twinfinite.

How Long Is As Dusk Falls? All Chapters List

1 year 9 months ago

As Dusk Falls offers up a visual novel-style experience which follows the story of two families crossing paths across a 30-year period. But how long is As Dusk Falls? And how many chapters make up its entirety? Well, it’s actually on the shorter side given how long a time period the game’s narrative intends to cover.

How Long Does As Dusk Falls Take to Beat?

As Dusk Falls takes six hours to beat all six of its chapters. The runtime doesn’t tend to vary from person-to-person too much because of the linear nature of the game. Unlike other titles in the genre like Telltale’s episodic series or Life Is Strange, As Dusk Falls doesn’t give you free reign to explore its environments. Instead, you hover your cursor around different areas of the screen to initiate another cutscene, or complete QTEs or make dialog choices.

There is the possibility your playtime could run a little bit longer if you pause the game to discuss the tough decisions you’ve got to make with a friend or family member, but this won’t add up to more than a couple hours at the absolute max over the entirety of the game.

All Six Chapters in As Dusk Falls

The six chapters of As Dusk Falls are separated into two ‘Books’ within the game called: ‘Collision’ and ‘Expansion.’ The first three chapters below fall into ’Collision’ and the latter three fall into the ‘Expansion’ Book.

  1. Desert Dream
  2. Economics 101
  3. Small Seconds
  4. Shima
  5. Paradise Found
  6. Cascade

How to Save in As Dusk Falls

1 year 9 months ago

As Dusk Falls is a narrative-drive, decision-based experience where you’ll follow the story of various characters over the course of three decades. While the game’s runtime isn’t that long, there may be times where you want to save your game in As Dusk Falls and pick up the action where you left off a little later on.

Saving Your Game in As Dusk Falls

As Dusk Falls uses an auto-save system, which appears to save fairly regularly whenever the scene changes or you make a major decision. You’ll know when the game is saving as an icon appears in the upper right corner of the screen.

When this happens, you can then press the Menu button on your Xbox controller (or Esc on PC), and select the ‘Return to Main Menu,’ option.

Doing this also appears to force a save state, meaning that you can then hop back into the action from where you left off when you’re ready to play again.

If you’re worried about losing any of your progress, you can always wait until the end of the chapter, where you’re shown the decision tree. At this point, your progress is recorded and you’ll have the option to return to the main menu. Each chapter of As Dusk Falls takes around an hour to beat, so it’s not too long to wait.

Is There a Manual Save Option?

Unfortunately, no, there’s no ‘Save Game’ option in the menus that you can use to immediately record your progress. However, we’ve not had any problems returning to the menu once a scene had come to an end within a chapter and returning to the same point when we loaded the game back up.

That’s everything you need to know on how to save in As Dusk Falls. For more tips and tricks on the game, be sure to search for Twinfinite or check out the links below.

As Dusk Falls Review

1 year 9 months ago

At first glance, Two Rock, Arizona is merely a backwater town occupied by little more than tumbleweed and a few rows of houses. But very little is as it first appears, and all it takes to reveal As Dusk Falls’ many layers of storytelling depth is one small, decades-spanning tragedy. And it’s all about the story, since this is a choose-your-own-adventure-style graphic novel that cleverly pulls ideas from games like Telltale’s The Walking Dead series and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Each member of this voice-acting cast of unique and interesting characters has their own, often conflicting emotional stakes that accelerate the story in seemingly hundreds of logical and intelligently connected directions. Through the powerful and often far-reaching consequences of your own actions, this small town is gradually unveiled as a powder keg full of secrets, vices, and familial bonds that run far deeper than any outsider is initially led to expect.

As Dusk Falls review: a gripping adventure that deserves a prime time slot

1 year 9 months ago

I know I've found a new favourite show when it's impossible to stop watching. That feverish ferocity to see just one more episode is the best feeling. As Dusk Falls, an interactive story about a robbery gone wrong in Arizona, managed to evoke that feeling early on and carry it throughout my roughly seven-hour playthrough. Split perfectly into two chunks that cover three chapters each, it's a thrilling adventure that deserves a prime time slot in your evenings over the weekend.

12 Villains We Hope Appear in Gotham Knights

1 year 9 months ago

Gotham Knights is an upcoming game developed by WB Games Montreal that sees players take control of members of the Bat Family as they are forced to navigate a world where Batman is now gone. As for the villains of Gotham Knights, we actually know very little about who will be in the game, with the only ones confirmed thus far being the Court of Owls, their Talons, Penguin, and Mr. Freeze.

When looking at who we hope will appear in Gotham Knights, how the villains would fit in the game as either primary or side villains will be taken into account. There is also the possibility of DLC if WB Games Montreal ever feels like there are villains who should be included this way. Lastly, there will be numerous mentioning of the Batman Arkham series, but the Gotham Knights universe is not the same as the Batman Arkham Universe, so the inclusion of this topic is mainly to illustrate comparisons and how Gotham Knights could feature villains in an even better way.

Before getting into the list, I also wanted to briefly mention two characters not on the list. The first is Joker, a character that has been used to the point of oversaturation, so it would be nice to finally have a game in the Batman Universe that doesn’t involve the Clown Prince of Crime. The second villain that shouldn’t be in the game but is worth a mention is Harley Quinn, who, even though she would be a perfectly fine addition to Gotham Knights, she’ll be a main character in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, so ideally I’d prefer this game to focus on other villains in the meantime.

So, without further ado, here are the 12 villains that we hope will appear in Gotham Knights:

As Dusk Falls Review – Decisions, Decisions

1 year 9 months ago

As Dusk Falls on Xbox Series X

The narrative-driven, decision-based experience has been a fairly popular one ever since Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead series blew players away with its agonizing choices, engaging story, and lovable characters that could be mauled to death by zombies with one poorly-thought-out action. Since then, many have attempted to emulate it, with the Life Is Strange series largely standing as the pinnacle of what the genre has to offer. Enter As Dusk Falls, an interactive drama from developer INTERIOR/LIGHT that explores the lives of two families across a 30-year period that unintentionally cross paths on one fateful day and leave an impact on one another that will last for decades to come.

The two families first cross paths when they very nearly crash into each other on the highway. Vince, a family man recently laid off from his job as an aircraft technician, is driving to St. Louis with his wife Michelle, daughter Zoe, and father Jim, when they’re forced off the road by an oncoming pickup carrying the Holt brothers — Tyler, Dale, and Jay. A fleeting, chance encounter soon gives way to a hostage situation, where the Holt brothers have taken Vince and his family captive in a standoff with the police after holing themselves up at a motel, and its this scenario where one half — called Book 1 in-game — of As Dusk Falls’ duration plays out.

As Dusk Falls review - a bold new future for interactive movie games

1 year 9 months ago

Don't be put off by the unusual art style: As Dusk Falls is good. I'd even go as far as to say it's the best interactive movie game I've played, and in that breath I'm considering all of Supermassive's output (the Dark Pictures games, etc.), Flavourworks' Erica, Quantic Dream's stuff (there's a Quantic Dream link here by the way). And OK granted, this is not a massive sub-genre, but clearly more studios are getting involved and, as far as I'm concerned, that's a very good thing.

Just in case you don't know, interactive movie games are largely how they sound: the action mostly plays without you. Your input comes at major decision points when you're asked to make choices that dramatically change the story. It's no exaggeration to say characters will live and die based on the choices you make. Those are the big moments but there are smaller decisions too, building to them, and there are quick-time events to plug the gaps and keep you engaged along the way.

The magic of this formula is its ability to engage bystanders like movies do. People will shout things like, "No, don't do that!" And, "Run away!" and that kind of thing, unwittingly investing themselves in what's going on. The games are almost as fun to watch as they are to play.

Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse Interview – Creator Kouki Yoshimune Discusses the Visual Novel & More

1 year 9 months ago

The 2012 anime Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse has been for many western Muv-Luv fans the first contact with the franchise. Yet, the 2013 visual novel was never localized, until now.

On July 20, this will finally change with the release on Steam of Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse Remastered, giving English speakers a chance to fully enjoy this relevant part of the Muv-Luv multiverse.

Yet, even so many years after its original release, not many fully know how Total Eclipse was born, and the philosophy behind its creation.

To celebrate the upcoming release, we sat down with Muv-Luv creator Kouki Yoshimune and executive brand producer, Kazutoshi “Tororo” Matsumura to learn more about this elusive visual novel, and perhaps receive a couple of small teases about the future of the franchise.

Giuseppe: The original Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse light novel first debuted in 2007, so it’s one of the first large-scale expansions of the Alternative universe. How was the idea born?

Kouki Yoshimune: Muv-Luv’s Tactical Surface Fighters have a completely different design philosophy from, say, Gundam. Muv-Luv doesn’t make the foreign or mass-produced mechs look deliberately boring in order to make the main characters’ mechs look good by contrast.

For Muv-Luv, I wanted to make sure that every nation had a mech cool enough to be the hero’s own personal TSF.

Both the PS Plus Extra (£10.99/month) and Premium options (£13.49/month) will now also give you the option to try the new service before having to pay anything.

At the time of writing, seemingly only the UK has access to the trial, but this doesn't rule out the possibility of it coming to other regions as well in the future.

The trial is only available for those who are currently not PS Plus members (even on the Essential tier), and there aren't separate trials for Extra and Premium available.

Essentially, you are signing up for PS Plus Extra/ Premium, and can then continue to pay for 1, 3 or 12 months of the service at your discretion, or cancel if you so chose to.

The T&Cs show you can cancel the free trial before you are charged at the end of the seven days. But, if you don't stop the renewal, you will be automatically charged a recurring subscription fee until you cancel.

Netflix's new Resident Evil series is going down badly with fans

1 year 9 months ago

We are not in short supply when it comes to video game to TV adaptations. As well as those already released, there are also numerous titles in the pipeline, from Fallout and The Last of Us to Horizon and God of War. There have even been talks of Life is Strange making its way to the live-action small screen.

But one video game franchise that has already seen numerous adaptations is Resident Evil. We have been gifted with big budget live action films and CG miniseries over the years.

Now there's yet another take on the zombie-filled world of Racoon City, thanks to Netflix. This show follows Jade Wesker (daughter of series regular Albert Wesker) as she fights to survive in a world overrun by blood-thirsty infected creatrures. So, some pretty standard Resident Evil stuff. The being said though, this newest release doesn't seem to be striking a chord with its viewers. In fact, it is one of Netflix's lowest-rated shows ever.

1 year 9 months ago

Starting from the fourth episode of RWBY: Ice Queendom, the show will start to tell its own story. To reflect this, there is a new key visual and trailer. The trailer shows Shion Zaiden, who is a Nightmare Hunter exclusive to the anime version of RWBY. Episode 4 will air on July 24, 2022. [Thanks, Comic Natalie!]

The trailer, which is just over a minute long and is the third for RWBY: Ice Queendom, shows Ruby, Blake, and Yang on a mission to save Weiss from a dream world. She is in the dream world because a Nightmare has trapped her in it, and the only way to get her out is to go inside of her mind to defeat it. After Shion sends them in, there are a few shots of Weiss fighting Blake on the basis of Blake being a Faunus. This seems to be based on a similar conflict between the two characters in the original show.

Hiroyuki Asada also provided the end card for episode 3. Asada is the Japanese manga artist behind Tegami Bachi, or Letter Bee. According to Asada, he felt that Shion is similar to his usual art style, and thus drew her.

An Elden Ring player finished the game without being hit or levelling up in just 2.5 hours

1 year 9 months ago

Elden Ring is challenging, it’s fair to say. That’s why the idea of tackling the game’s die-rise-repeat formula without taking a single hit and never levelling your character’s runes is pretty dang impressive. Well, Elden Ring streamer Ainrun managed to do that, and didn’t skip the Grafted Scion boss like other streamers. Nice.

A Live-Action Zombie Series That Was Despised By Fans Has Shuffled Its Way to the Top of Netflix

1 year 9 months ago

While Resident Evil is best known for its iconic survival horror video games, its success in the gaming sphere has led to a multi-media franchise spanning films, comic books, and even novels. The latest instalment, however, is a TV series exclusively streaming on Netflix right now. Amazingly, despite being torn asunder by fans, this video game-inspired show has shuffled its way to the top of the pile.

That’s right, according to FlixPatrol, the live-action flesh-munching series that debuted just a few days ago has managed to nab the number one spot in the Top 10 TV shows streaming today, which means that it must be the most watched show on the popular streaming service at the moment. Not bad for a TV series that’s been panned by fans around the globe.

Specifically, Resident Evil (2022) has been branded as nigh on unwatchable thanks to a 25 percent Audience Score (from 1184 ratings) over on reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, which is officially the lowest Audience Score for any Resident Evil adaptation to date. Clearly, Resident Evil fans are not very impressed with Netflix’s latest offering. From a critical perspective, however, the show has fared a lot better with a more respectable 51 percent score on the same site.

Of course, attempting to adapt Capcom’s beloved horror series to both film and TV has proven a challenging task for many production companies. Put simply, even the Resident Evil movies are hardly remembered as “classics” so it was always going to be an uphill struggle trying to nail a TV show set in the world of Raccoon City and the nefarious Umbrella Corporation.
