Spider-Man Developer, Insomniac Games, Shares a Tour of Its Newly Redesigned Studio

4 years 2 months ago

Today, Insomniac Games has uploaded a new video to its YouTube channel that takes viewers on a tour of the studio’s newly redesigned office.

The Spider-Man and Resistance developers have seemingly just moved back into the studio not too long ago and if you watch the video down below, you can see just how much the team’s space has improved. I mean, just look at their kitchen –can I have that in my apartment, please?

Back in 2019, it was announced by Sony Interactive Entertainment that Insomniac Games would be joining the line-up of first-party developers that fall under the house of PlayStation.

Of course, Insomniac Games has been known to develop franchises for PlayStation such as Ratchet and Clank and Resistance but now the team is finally considered to be part of the PlayStation family for good.

We don’t know what the team is currently working on at the moment as a first-party developer but considering how successful Spider-Man PS4 was, seeing a sequel wouldn’t be surprising.

There Will Be at Least 383 Villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

4 years 2 months ago

Ever since the big Animal Crossing-focused Nintendo Direct that aired yesterday, our savior Tom Nook has taken over some of the Animal Crossing Twitter accounts and will be bust posting messages about the upcoming life sim.

Affirmed in a tweet today from Tom Nook, he stated that they are currently sending 383 letters to current Nook’s Homes customers, confirmed that there will be (at least) 383 returning villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

We say ‘at least’ because the tweet mentions that Nook is sending letters to previous Nook’s Homes customers, which means that we’ll be seeing that number go up as more of the new islanders are revealed for the game.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Needs a Better Save Data Solution ASAP

4 years 2 months ago

The recent Animal Crossing: New Horizons Direct showed off tons of new info on the game and fans are losing their minds all across the internet. New Horizons looks like it’s going to be a fantastic game, but Nintendo’s new save data solution for the title is still massively concerning.

We learned a few months ago that the latest installment in the Animal Crossing franchise is not compatible with the Switch Online Cloud Saves feature. I get Nintendo is trying to combat time manipulation exploits, but this decision negatively impacts everyone who purchases the game.

Initially, we thought this signaled certain doom if your console was lost or damaged. However, the recent Animal Crossing: New Horizons Direct tried to alleviate concerns over this issue by revealing a special data recovery service if your console becomes lost or damaged.

This is an odd workaround since the company clearly already has the infrastructure in place to make cloud saves work. As expected, you still will need to have an active Switch Online membership for it to work.

It’s better than nothing, yet Nintendo’s solution still won’t be enough to put my mind at ease. I appreciate that it took the time to find an alternative option to not offering backups in any form, but there’s still one discouraging catch.

The Gravestone in Animal Crossing: New Horizons Is a Cause for Concern

4 years 2 months ago

Hey Animal Crossing fans, we’ve run into a tiny little problem. I know that all of you are excited due to the slew of new features that were revealed during the big Nintendo Direct on Thursday but there has been a… murder.

Well, we’re not entirely sure if someone has died or if it’s merely a decorative Halloween item, but during the presentation yesterday, fans managed to spot a gravestone around the 22-minute mark. The grave is surrounded by flowers and there seems to be some sort of old item on top of it –could it be a turnip, perhaps?

You can see it for yourself in the video below, we put the correct time for you so you should be able to see it immediately once you press play:

See, it’s a grave, right? Well, the Animal Crossing community has been worried about the burial ground, speculating on who could exactly be buried down there. Could it be the old mayor, Tortimer? Could it be the old turnip saleswoman, Joan? Could it be our social lives once New Horizons comes out in March? Let’s see what the community has to say about this:

Brand New FIFA 20 Promo, Shapeshifters, Begins Today

4 years 2 months ago

Coming hot on the heels of Winter Refresh, EA Sports has revealed a brand new FIFA 20 promo via the loading screen in the game and it is called Shapeshifters.

This time last year we were looking forward to Carniball, and some people thought that today’s promo would be Copa Liberdatores based, but a new event is being squeezed into the quiet week.

It’s not exactly clear what shapeshifters will entail. If you look at the loading screen in FIFA 20 though, you can have a good guess.

You can see the positions of the three players, as well as their ratings, and in the sort of hole in the middle, there’s another position.

shapeshifters, fifa 20

The Shapeshifters theory is that the player has moved from the position in the middle of the card to the one in the correct place, hence the shapeshifting. Therefore, we have a RW who used to be a CF, a Brazilian CAM who was a LB, and French RW who was a ST.

Dreams Review – If You Build It, They Will Come

4 years 2 months ago

Dreams on PS4

Dreams, from developer Media Molecule, is a strange beast indeed. It’s a powerful tool in the hands of a creative individual, and intuitive enough for those less artistically inclined to try their hand. It’s an endless stream of conscious thought and artistry that is simultaneously overwhelming and exciting.

Let’s take a moment to focus on just what exactly Dreams is, and how it introduces itself. After a brief series of tutorials that will familiarize you with some basic controls, and after choosing an Imp (a cute little critter that functions as a mouse cursor), you will be given a choice between the games two symbiotic game modes: Dream Surfing or Dream Shaping.

Dream Surfing is the portal through which you can explore and experience projects that members of the community or Media Molecule themselves have created. It is a collection of games, art galleries, and movies that you can either play through or explore for leisure or inspiration.

Dream Shaping will grant you access to a powerful creation engine for everything from games, music, animations, assets, and quite a lot more. It’s also a platform on which creators can share their efforts, and actually creating something in Dreams is more intuitive than it has any right to be, considering the enormity of what is possible.

Azur Lane Reveals New Russian Shipgirls and Skin

4 years 2 months ago

Yostar is continuing to showcase new content for its popular mobile game Azur Lane, offering the first glimpse at what appears to be the next major event.

Matching with the “Northern Front” pre-event that will start tomorrow and end on February 27 (followed by phase 2 until March 18) we get to take a look at content from the Northern Parliament faction, which is basically Russia.

We get to see a new skin for Avrora, the only shipgirl from the Northern Parliament currently existing in the game.

On top of that, we also get the reveal of two more shipgirs. The first is Pamiat Merkuria, a light cruiser from the same faction.

The choice of name is interesting, as it was used when the real ship was in service with the Russian Empire before she was renamed Komintern in 1922 by the Soviet Union.

The second shipgirl is Soviet destroyer Tashkent. You can see them all below.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Gets Impressive Video & Screenshots Showing Ultra-Detailed Airports & More

4 years 2 months ago

Today Asobo released a brand new video of its upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator on top of new screenshots from the current alpha test.

The video included in an account-protected insider feature focuses on airports. The game includes every single airport on Earth, and 37,000 are manually edited by the development team.

Among those, 80 airports received additional details, and a further selection received even more detail, reaching “a new level in flight simulation.”

That’s certainly a bold claim, considering that some third-party add-on airports in previous entries of the series were mindbogglingly detailed.

Perhaps even more satisfying is the simulation of ground traffic and airport life, with things like pushback trucks, baggage handlers, refueling, staircases, and even animated catering services.

You can check it out below.

A further development update included screenshots from alpha participants and an updated development roadmap.

Below you can see screenshots by Lash123456, Bonham Five, redl0l, TangoAlpha3d, JonasAlexander2, and Acktunasrabi.

4 years 2 months ago

If you’re eagerly awaiting for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX to land on the Nintendo Switch, you have come to the right place.

Today, the Japanese branch of Nintendo released an extensive trailer and two TV commercial for the upcoming game.

Of course, if you know anything about Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team, you’ll likely expect the new videos to be absolutely adorable. And in fact, they are.

The trailer is particularly extensive, clocking at approximately five minutes. It’s one of those “introduction” trailers that do exactly what they say on the tin, providing an overview of what you can expect to find on the game.

We also get to see plenty of the game’s renewed graphics over the original released for the Nintendo DS in 2005.

The TV commercials are, of course, much smaller, following the traditional thirty-second format.

Today Bandai Namco Entertainment released a brand new trailer of the popular fighting game Dragon Ball FighterZ, focusing on the upcoming DLC.

You can watch it below. Incidentally, we already know that the second DLC of the season will be Goku Ultra Instinct coming later in the spring.

Sony & Facebook Cancel GDC Attendance in Fear of Coronavirus Contagion

4 years 2 months ago

Just a day after canceling its attendance at Pax East 2020, Sony has announced it’s also removing itself from the Game Developers Conference (GDC) next month, too, citing fears over the spread of the Coronavirus COVID-19. Facebook has followed suit, opting instead to deliver its Oculus keynote online.

The news comes by way of Gamesindustry.biz — the outlet was issued statements by spokespeople from both companies.

A statement from Sony Interactive Entertainment read:

“We have made the difficult decision to cancel our participation in Game Developers Conference due to increasing concerns related to COVID-19 (also known as coronavirus). We felt this was the best option as the situation related to the virus and global travel restrictions are changing daily. We are disappointed to cancel our participation, but the health and safety of our global workforce is our highest concern. We look forward to participating in GDC in the future.”

While Facebook explained:

“Out of concern for the health and safety of our employees, our dev partners, and the GDC community, Facebook will not be attending this year’s Game Developer Conference due to the evolving public health risks related to COVID-19.

We still plan to share the exciting announcements we had planned for the show through videos, online Q&As, and more, and will plan to host GDC partner meetings remotely in the coming weeks.

We continue to collaborate with UBM, GDC’s parent company, and our partners, and thank them for their efforts.”

Open-World RPG Outward Has Sold 600,000; OST Released as Digital Download

4 years 2 months ago

Hot on the heels of news on Outward’s first premium DLC expansion earlier this week, Deep Silver and Nine Dots Studio have announced a new sales milestone for the game today. Outward, the open-world adventure RPG set in the fantasy world of Aurai, has now sold 600,000 units since its release on March 26, 2019.

CEO of Nine Dots Studio Guillaume Boucher-Vidal celebrated Outward as an “outstanding success” and spoke of looking forward to revealing the studio’s future plans for the game moving forward in a press release today.

To mark the occasion, the developer has also released the game’s wonderfully atmospheric OST. Boucher-Vidal praised composer Jean-François Racine for his efforts on the score, which was his debut as a video game composer:

“We are the first studio that hired for an entire game soundtrack and are thrilled with the result. Jean-François is still a newcomer, but he has a great career ahead of him. His music helped our game to build a very special atmosphere that the players will surely remember for a long time. We are therefore looking forward to his next works.”

You can download the soundtrack here.

As mentioned earlier, Outward’s first premium DLC, Soroboreans, is set to launch later this spring, adding new mechanics and features, and seemingly locations to the already robust experience.

Before that, a major free update released in October of last year added a hardcore mode for those wanting an even more harrowing survival experience.

Hellpoint: The Thespian Feast Released For Free, a Sequel Chapter to The Upcoming Souls-Like

4 years 2 months ago

Months in advance of the main game’s release, developer Cradle Games has today released a sequel chapter to its upcoming Souls-like Hellpoint. Called Hellpoint: Thespian Feast, a standalone experience set years after the incidents of the main game, which is slated for launch on April 17. The game is available to download over on Steam for free from today.

Publisher tinyBUILDGames tees up the story of Hellpoint: The Thespian Feast:

“This is a standalone story in Hellpoint universe, a dark and challenging action RPG set in the world where the line between science and occultism is blurred. The Thespian Feast tells the story of an investigator arriving at Irid Novo station 50 years after the Hellpoint events.

Many decades after the incident, someone finally manages to reach the forsaken space colony of Irid Novo. What the investigator finds, defies any form of reason, but a morbid obsession pushes him forward. If death doesn’t come first, insanity will surely have the better of him.”

Creative director at Cradle Games said of today’s announcement:

“For those who’ve been following us for some time, this is the map from the very first demo we released four years ago.

In the final game, this is the sixth map if you follow the main path and I think players will find it interesting to see how much the game has progressed since then. The area is totally overrun by the Thespian demons, a race of flesh sculpting monsters and blood feasting degenerates. Compared to the 2016 demo, The Thespian Feast features completely new enemies and a new brutal boss fight. And don’t forget the split-screen co-op!”

A Borderlands Movie Adaptation Is in the Works, Directed by Eli Roth

4 years 2 months ago

Borderlands is the latest video game to receive a movie adaptation. As reported today by The Hollywood Reporter, Cabin Fever and Hostel director Eli Roth is set to direct the upcoming film for Lionsgate.

“I’m so excited to dive into the world of Borderlands, and I could not be doing it with a better script, producing team and studio. I have a long, successful history with Lionsgate — I feel like we have grown up together and that everything in my directing career has led to a project of this scale and ambition,” Roth said in a statement.

The script, meanwhile, has been written by Emmy-winning screenwriter Craig Mazin, while producers Avi Arad and Ari Arad (Arad Productions) are working alongside Erik Feig on the project. Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford and Strauss Zelnick are set to take the role of executive producers.

As noted by the outlet, we’re in something of a video game movie adaptation boom as the upcoming Borderlands film follows on from other recent adaptations like Mortal Kombat, The Angry Birds Movie, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, and most recently, Sonic the Hedgehog. Netflix has, of course, also recently produced two highly successful TV adaptations of video game series Castlevania and The Witcher.

“With Eli’s vision and Craig’s screenplay, we believe we have cracked the code on bringing the anarchic world of Borderlands to the big screen in a big way that will be a fresh, compelling and cinematic event for moviegoers and fans of the game,” said Nathan Kahane, president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.

The Witcher 3 Steam Sales Generated $50 Million Since October, CDPR Celebrates

4 years 2 months ago

The Witcher 3 has sold big numbers over on Steam since Oct. 1, developer CD Projekt Red has celebrated in a Tweet today. In the four and half months since that date, it’s generated $50 million in revenue and earned the company a greater share in the profits of future sales moving forward as a result.

CD Projekt Red’s investor relations account Tweeted the following today:

While it isn’t mentioned anywhere in an official capacity, it’s likely that the immense popularity of Netflix’s The Witcher adaptation, which premiered in December 2019, is largely to thank for the boost in sales.

Following the show’s launch, scores of players –presumably both old and new– took to Steam to experience the acclaimed open-world RPG. They did so in such dramatic numbers, in fact, that The Witcher 3 smashed its highest-ever peak concurrent player count.

Apex Legends Returns to Kings Canyon Tomorrow for a Limited Time

4 years 2 months ago

In a possible attempt to distract players from the launch of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2, Respawn has made the Kings Canyon map playable again in Apex Legends for a limited time only.

Kings Canyon will be available in Apex Legends from tomorrow until Feb. 24. The Valentine’s Day Rendezvous duos event in Apex just ended yesterday, and the new season of Fortnite has just begun today. Re-introducing the original map is a great way to keep some fans from jumping ship.

However, players won’t be forced to return to Kings Canyon, as the Season 4 World’s Edge map will still be available at the same time. Just like most other Apex events, you’ll have a choice. You’ll be able to choose whether or not you go to Kings Canyon before loading into the character select screen.

The Apex Legends Twitter account just put out a tweet with a short video that goes through the map to dig up some of that Season 1 nostalgia. You can check it out below:

Black Desert Lets Friends Adventure Together With Crossplay in March

Despite the PS4 version being a bit behind in terms of features, Pearl Abyss will be adding crossplay functionality for Black Desert on consoles next month in a new update.

The crossplay update is coming Mar. 4, but one look at the comment section for the announcement’s teaser trailer will let you know that not all players are excited for it. Crossplay is almost always looked at as a positive feature, yet in the case of Black Desert, it’s causing mixed feelings.

The PS4 version just launched not too long ago, so it’s still not on par with the Xbox One version of the game which launched six months prior. Black Desert on PS4 hasn’t had as many updates as the Xbox version yet, so it’s possible that this crossplay may be coming at a bad time for PS4 users.

The PS4 just received the Kunoichi class this month, and is still waiting on the Archer. It seems one console may have the upper hand over the other in terms of PvP gameplay options once the update goes live, but we’ll just have to wait and see how the crossplay is implemented come March.

The Black Desert YouTube channel also released a short teaser for the upcoming crossplay feature. You can check it out below:

Ability to Choose Island Map and Change Its Landscape

island map

In previous Animal Crossing games, you’d be given a town map with features like rivers and cliffs in random spots. Now in New Horizons, at the beginning of the game, you’ll be able to choose between several island maps to ensure you’re happy with its layout.

What’s even more exciting is that even if you aren’t completely satisfied with the layout, you’ll be able to acquire a construction permit later in the game to change the landscape. For the first time ever, you can add and remove land and water to make it look exactly how you want it to.

I Played Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Now I Am a Splendid Otaku God

4 years 2 months ago

今日はみんなさん!私は日本語の先生です。一生に勉強しませんか。

Oh, my apologies… I forgot that not everyone is fluent in Nihongo, a gift that only master otaku like myself have been bestowed. As such, I’ll do my best to accommodate to your primitive English vernacular; a bastard language where bear is both a verb and a noun, while bare is an adjective, and occasionally, also a verb.

The cause of this newfound sagacity to the tongue of the gods is the month I have spent with Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore on the Nintendo Switch, a game that is more Japanese than a katana-wielding sumo riding atop a Kawasaki with a mouthful of sushi.

Let’s put it this way; there is literally an option whether or not you want a particular character to wear glasses throughout the game. Moreover, not only is it a choice you can make, it’s one of those things you’ll agonize over, irrationally fearful that the wrong answer will somehow have a negative impact on your experience, even if it is merely aesthetically.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Direct Reveals a Ton of New Information

4 years 2 months ago

Today, Nintendo held a 25-minute-long livestreamed presentation for Animal Crossing: New Horizons and boy, there was a lot of information that was thrown at us. There’s a lot of new stuff to cover but here are some major tidbits of information that you need to know before the game launches on March 20.

If you’re just here to watch the Nintendo Direct presentation, you can scroll down to check out the video in its entirety.

First off, Resident Services is a tent in the plaza that’s open 24/7 that allows you to sell items and craft a variety of objects by using the workbench. You can craft items by following recipes and you can even customize your items to your liking.

The second facility shown off was the airport where you’ll first land on the island. This is where you’ll go to invite residents to your island and vice versa. Up to eight players can be on one island at a time, which was previously shown off in older trailers.

You can also send messages to other residents at the airport by paying a small fee.

Nook Inc. will, of course, provide you with a tent at the beginning of the game but you’ll also get a Nookphone that comes with loads of options such as the Nook Mileage Program, which rewards you for completing activities around the island with Nook Miles. These miles can be used to pay off your loans or purchase special items.

Another option on the Nookphone is the Rescue Service which can transport you back to your house if you’re way too far from your place and you’re feeling lazy.

Also, every morning, Tom Nook will have an island-wide broadcast to go over the latest island events and give you some helpful island advice.

You can exchange a Nook Miles Ticket to go aboard a Dodo Airlines plane for a Mystery Tour. These small deserted islands are full of unique items and you can even run into some strange characters.

New FIFA 20 Promo Starting Tomorrow; Possibly Copa Libertadores or Carniball Themed

4 years 2 months ago

Hot on the heels of the underwhelming Winter Refresh, a new splash loading screen in FIFA 20 has revealed that a new promo is coming this Friday, which could be Copa Libertadores or Carniball themed.

The loading screen, which you can see at the top of the page, doesn’t reveal a lot, aside from some hidden positions, but we can gleam some information from other FIFA 20 promotional materials and the history of the series.

First of all, it could be the Copa Libertadores promo. Copa Libertadores is a South American club competition that runs every year, including the best sides on the continent. This will be the first time that the competition has been featured extensively in FIFA.

EA Sports said last year that the content would be coming to FIFA 20 in March and that it would be free. It’s not quite March yet, but the image below, pointed out by @WFCBagnall on Twitter, shows that the color of the loading screen is the same as the artwork for the competition that’s used behind the people here.
