Pre-Purchase Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 Road to Boruto for Switch to Unlock New Characters

4 years 2 months ago

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 Road to Boruto is a mouthful of a title, and it’s finally coming to Switch on Apr. 24. Pre-purchasing the game on the Nintendo eShop will allow you to play as several characters at launch, including Kinshiki and Momoshiki.

Pre-purchasing will give players access to the Early Unlock Pack, which instantly unlocks several playable characters that would otherwise need to be earned through gameplay or bought as DLC.

Kinshiki and Momoshiki are two of said characters. Although, final form Momoshiki seems to be the version seen in Boruto: Naruto the Movie, not the form seen in the Boruto anime or manga.

Both villains will become available as paid DLC for all versions of the game in the future. Players on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 can purchase the two villains for $6.99 once they are released.

It’s already been four years since the original release of Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, so Bandai Namco is drumming up new hype for the Switch release with those pre-purchase bonuses above, as well as a new trailer.

The Switch version of the game will also come with new outfits for several characters. You can check out the the new characters, outfits, and more in the Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 trailer below:

Cyber Shadow’s Release Window Revealed by Yacht Club Games; Flashy New Trailer Shown Off

4 years 2 months ago

During a live-streamed presentation today from Yacht Club Games, it was announced that Cyber Shadow, the frenetic 2D action title from Mechanical Head Studios, will be released sometime in the fall of 2020.

It was also revealed during the presentation that the title will support the Shovel Knight series of amiibo and once you scan the amiibo into the game, the respective knight will help Shadow out on the field.

Cyber Shadow was first announced last year for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC and I even got hands-on time with the title during PAX East last year. I immediately fell in love with the retro aesthetic and while the game isn’t being developed by Yacht Club Games itself, Cyber Shadow still feels like a genuine video game that belongs under the publisher’s umbrella of titles.

You can watch the new story trailer down below:

Cyber Shadow will be released this fall for PS4, Switch, PC, and Xbox One, and will cost $14.99.

Destiny 2 Director Discusses Phasing Out Legendaries, Reducing FOMO, & D2 Year 4 in New DX Post

4 years 2 months ago

Today Destiny 2 director Luke Smith kind of out of nowhere dropped one of his lengthy Director’s Cut posts on the Bungie blog. This follows the big news yesterday that Trials of Osiris would be returning. Well I guess we’re getting back to back big Destiny 2 news days because this post has lots of interesting insight from Smith along with teases for the future. Let’s run through the major highlights.

First we learn that the current seasonal model is going to be altered quite a bit. The whole seasonal activity experiment hasn’t played out in a way that Bungie seems satisfied with. Probably because there’s only so many variants of The Menagerie that can be thought up of before things start to get stale. If they wanted to keep Sundial in though and refresh the obelisks every season I wouldn’t hate that.

Without getting into too much detail, Smith let players know that going forward the seasonal content will be focused more on enhancing or highlighting “core activities” instead. This includes stuff like Crucible and Nightfalls. Rather than letting get those activities get stale in favor of something new that is going to go away, it sounds like Smith wants his team to focus their attention on infusing the new stuff into those existing game modes.

It’s an interesting and logical approach considering how unsustainable the current model is. We’ll have to see how worthwhile the new stuff is though to evaluate whether this strategy will work or if it will end up similar to how many players viewed Season of the Drifter (read: kind of boring).

Much more controversial than that big change though was Smith’s discussion about legendary weapons and the never ending pile that we have, and that the dev team continues to add to.

They didn’t get into specifics, but in a sense, older legendary weapons are going to be phased out in some manner.

Predator: Hunting Grounds Gets Trial Weekend in March

4 years 2 months ago

Predator: Hunting Grounds still has a little ways to go in terms of its development, but fans will now be able to check out its progress as soon as next month thanks to a freshly announced early access event.

In a post to the official PlayStation Blog made on Feb. 26, Predator: Hunting Grounds’ developer IllFonic revealed that the game would host a Trial Weekend at the end of next month.

“We spent the last part of 2019 taking a demo around to various gaming events around the world and allowing members of the public to try it for themselves,” IllFonic’s CEO Charles Brungardt wrote. “We received valuable feedback through that process and we believe everyone will be excited to see where the game is.”

The Trial will become available for download through both the PlayStation Store and the Epic Games Store at 3 p.m. JST in Japan, 4 p.m. GMT in Europe and 5 p.m. PST in North America on Mar. 27, and will be playable until an undisclosed time on Mar. 29.

During the Trial Weekend, players will be able to choose between playing as the titular Predator or one of four human characters. They’ll then compete against each other in asymmetrical multiplayer matches, with the humans boasting numbers against the Predator’s technological and environmental advantages.

The winner will be determined based on whether one team is completely wiped out, or if the human team manages to escape the Predator before they’re all killed.

IllFonic also released a new teaser trailer for Predator: Hunting Grounds in preparation for the event, which can be viewed down below.

GOG Extends Its Refund Policy to 30 Days With No Playtime Limitations

4 years 2 months ago

Refunds are a hot topic in the world of digital distribution. Each company has its own refund rules and restrictions —some more restrictive than others— but GOG just updated its voluntary refund policy to become one of the more consumer friendly options.

According to a recent announcement, you can “get a full refund up to 30 days after purchasing a product, even if you downloaded, launched, and played it.”

In order to apply for a refund, players need to contact GOG’s customer support team within 30 days of their purchase. However, the company recommends that if a customer wants a refund because their game doesn’t work, they should contact GOG’s tech support team to fix the issue instead.

After a refund is processed, players will receive either a cash reimbursement of the original payment or the equivalent in GOG Wallet funds. This policy does not apply to gifts, as only the original purchaser can request (and receive) the refund, but it does apply to pre-orders and DLC purchases.

A Lot Is Riding on Destiny 2’s Revival of Trial of Osiris

4 years 2 months ago

After years of waiting, everyone’s favorite, super sweaty, weekly PvP activity, Trials of Osiris, is returning to Destiny 2. It’ll be released on March 13 alongside Season of the Worthy which is now confirmed to be a thing. This will replace Trials of the Nine which now appears to be officially dead and buried. F.

Trials of Osiris was confirmed late yesterday after players finally hit the final Fractaline goal which triggered the release of a new Dev Insight video about the popular game mode that you can see below:

The beginning, of course, is supremely overdramatic as tends to be the case with these developer insight/vid doc videos, but it does eventually cut to the chase.

Trials is returning alongside three popular D1 PvP maps: Exodus Blue, Cauldron and Anomaly. The original sexy Trials armor is back alongside at least some of the classic Lighthouse weapons as well.

Speaking of The Lighthouse, that will also be returning but whether or not it’s exclusive to flawless players is unclear. And… speaking of flawless: your Trials armor will glow if you completed a flawless card that week to let everyone know you’re a sweaty PvP god (or that you got carried), which is also pretty sweet.

Brie Larson but as Animal Crossing Villagers

4 years 2 months ago

You all may know Brie Larson as the actress who’s played roles such as Captain Marvel in the MCU, Envy Adams in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and she even appeared in a couple of episodes of Community. That being said, she’s a fantastic actress that’s also known for her various clothing styles, clothing styles that could be comparable to several Animal Crossing villagers. Yup, this is an Animal Crossing article.

This brings us to one of the most amazing Twitter threads that I have laid my eyes upon and we all need to thank @tessaracts for the hard work and dedication on this.

They have managed to put together side-by-side images of Brie Larson and several Animal Crossing villagers that look strikingly similar to the actress.

First off is Tom Nook. Larson really knows how to work a Hawaiian vacation shirt. And we also have this cute little bear(?) with flowers all over them, but of course, Larson one-ups them with cute little bird on her shoulder.

Battlefront II Community Update Video Details Age of Rebellion Content

4 years 2 months ago

Star Wars Battlefront II’s latest update, titled the Age of Rebellion, drops today, and EA has released a community update video detailing everything players can expect.

Streamed through YouTube via the official EA Star Wars account in tandem with a post made to the official Battlefront forums, the video shows off all of the new maps, modes and characters players will be able to access once they’ve downloaded the update.

Some of the biggest additions are the two new units players can now select. One is the Ewok Hunter, joining the side of the Rebellion. Nimble and cunning, the unit can buff its attacks with the use of a Valiant Horn, in exchange for giving away its position on the map; stun enemies with swarms of Wisties; and reveal opponents using their Hunter’s Instinct.

The other is the ISB Agent, a special operative for the Empire. Able to dual wield pistols, the Agent can pepper enemies with blasts before hammering them with a charged blast in quick succession. Not only that, but thanks to their Imperial Intel and Double Your Effort abilities, they can track down enemies’ locations and boost their allies’ abilities respectively.

Also worth noting are the plethora of new maps now available through the update. In addition to seven new locations created for the Co-op modes ranging from Yavin to the Death Star II, the update will also begin making Capital Ship maps from Battlefront II’s Supremacy mode available for play in Co-op.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Delay Won’t Impact Next Game; Square Enix Comments on Next-Gen Development

4 years 2 months ago

Today Square Enix published a report from the latest investor relations conference hosted in Japan, and President Yosuke Matsuda made a couple of interesting comments.

First of all, we learn that the delay of the Final Fantasy VII Remake will have no impact on the development or launch timeline of the next installment.

It’s actually a bit unclear here if Matsuda is talking about the second part of the remake or the next mainline Final Fantasy game, and the wording in the original Japanese document doesn’t help here.

He also offered a comment on the development of next-generation games, indicating that the publisher will likely focus on cross-generation or backward compatible titles for the time being.

“The next-generation consoles will have backward compatibility, so we plan for the time being to make our new titles available for both current and next-generation consoles. It will therefore be somewhat farther down the road that we release titles exclusively for the next-generation consoles.”

CD Projekt Red No Longer Attending PAX East Due to Coronavirus Concerns

4 years 2 months ago

Over the past month or so, the Coronavirus crisis from Wuhan, China has certainly continued to worry people all over the world as the number of confirmed cases increases. To that end, companies and people are starting to avoid congested or crowded areas to minimize the risk of contracting the virus, and you can now add CD Projekt Red to that list.

With PAX East kicking off this week, it wasn’t long before both Sony and Square Enix announced that they would no longer be attending the event due to medical and health concerns. This means that attendees wouldn’t be able to check out The Last of Us Part II or Final Fantasy VII remake.

Just today, CD Projekt Red also announced that they wouldn’t be at PAX East either, which also means that Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be there. It’s understandable, as the company just wants to keep their team safe and healthy, at least until the crisis blows over.

Microsoft’s Approach to Next-Gen Is Putting Tons of Pressure on Sony

4 years 2 months ago

As we approach the launch of two new next-gen consoles, Microsoft has been slowly drip-feeding Xbox Series X info to the masses, even revealing the design of the console during The Game Awards last year. Microsoft is going into this console race with a bold, confident, and positive outlook on the Series X, something that was lacking with the launch of the Xbox One back in 2013.

Just yesterday, Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, went to Xbox Wire to reveal even more technical information on the Xbox Series X, and even unveiled some neat new features that will change the game, such as Smart Delivery and Quick Resume.

Smart Delivery ensures that if you buy a title that is developed by one of Microsoft’s studios, you will be able to play that same game “whether you are playing it on Xbox One or Xbox Series X – you are getting the right version of that game on whatever Xbox you’re playing on,” as Phil Spencer states.

So for example, if you buy Halo Infinite for Xbox One, you will be able to play that copy on your Xbox Series X as well, which means consumers won’t have to buy two versions of the same game.

Despite Dead or Alive 6 Crossover, Koei Tecmo Is Still Tiptoeing Around DOA Xtreme’s Existence

4 years 2 months ago

Koei Tecmo has been very good at localizing its games for the west over the past few years.

Besides very few notable exceptions like most of the Winning Post horse racing series (which I’d actually really like to play in English, considering that it’s a very deep and interesting simulation franchise), it has brought nearly its entire catalog to their North American and European customers, and Koei Tecmo is becoming faster and more efficient, with Fairy Tail finally achieving a simultaneous worldwide release.

Yet, there is one fairly popular spin-off series that has been pretty much ignored by the western arm of the publisher for a few years and it’s Dead or Alive Xtreme.

Born in 2003 on the original Xbox as Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball and featuring the ladies from the mainline Dead or Alive fighting games, it continued in 2006 on the Xbox 360 with a sequel that was remade for PSP in 2010 as Dead or Alive Paradise.

When Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 was announced back in 2015, the western arm of Koei Tecmo made a single then-canceled comment on Facebook that was then retracted and identified as an employee’s individual opinion, and then moved on to basically sweep the existence of the Xtreme series under the rug.

Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 was released in 2015 in Japan and Asia, including an English localization that never made it officially to North America and Europe, and the same happened with its expanded re-release Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Scarlet last year.

SteamWorld Quest sees you “explore the humorous, irreverent, and farcical fantastic card-battling world” and SteamWorld Dig 2 sees you “embark on spectacular subterranean spelunking.”

To purchase the games come March 1, just head on over to the Stadia store and add them to your library. You’ll then be able to start playing them immediately.

There is no news on whether these games will only be free to Stadia Pro subscribers for a specific period of time. We’ll let you know if anything is announced at a later date.

Alongside the news of the new free games, Google revealed in a blog post that a new game, called Spitlings, will be coming to Stadia on Feb. 25.

Spitlings is “a quirky arcade action game that rewards teamwork and savagely punishes individual failure! To progress through Spitlings challenges, teams of up to four must cooperate in perfect tandem. If one teammate fails, everyone fails. It will take coordination, fast reflexes, and a little luck to overcome the diverse split-second challenges awaiting teams.”

The game is coming first to Stadia, before other consoles, and will cost $14.99.

Saitama KOs Everyone in One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows Trailer

4 years 2 months ago

Bandai Namco just released a new trailer for the upcoming fighting game, One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows on their YouTube channel. If you’ve watched or read even a bit of the anime or manga, you’ll know that Saitama can defeat any enemy with ease. This trailer shows him doing exactly that.

The game and trailer stay true to the source material, so the One Punch Man himself, Saitama, is able to KO any opponent in one hit. The trailer is quite literally a compilation of KOs as Saitama punches almost every single character on the roster.

With that in mind, battles won’t last very long when Saitama is involved. However, the rest of the heroes and villains in the cast have various special moves and move sets that allow players to have more fair fights.

If that isn’t enough, though, players can also create their own heroes to save the world with. You won’t be as strong as Saitama, but would the game really be fun if you could do what he does in the One Punch Man trailer below?

Dead or Alive 6 Reveals Tamaki from Xtreme: Venus Vacation as New DLC Fighter for Good Boys & Girls

4 years 2 months ago

Back in November, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja announced that one of the new girls introduced in Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation would make the jump to Dead or Alive 6

Today we learn that the chosen lady is Tamaki, who which makes sense considering that she’s definitely among the favorites within the fanbase.

Her righting style is unknown for the moment, which is interesting. Before the release of the game, the developer mentioned that it was unlikely for the Venus Vacation ladies to ever make the jump because they’re not fighters, and Tamaki certainly doesn’t strike you as a vicious warrior.

Yet, apparently, there is more to her than meets the eye, and she will join the Dead or alive 6 cast in earnest next year.

You can watch her reveal trailer below.

A Resident Evil 3 Remake Demo Is Coming Soon

4 years 2 months ago

It is less than six weeks until the game’s full release but Capcom has revealed that a Resident Evil 3 Remake demo is on its way.

Tweeting the news as preview coverage began to drop today, they didn’t say anything about the demo beyond that it will be coming soon.

They tweeted, “It was written in the STARS… A Resident Evil 3 Demo is on the way. We’ll have more details in the near future!”

We’ll have to wait to see exactly what platforms it is coming to, what the demo will entail, and when it will release, but you can expect it to be pretty soon.

Resident Evil 2 Remake also got a demo last year, with it coming three weeks or so before the game’s release at the end of January.

You can expect the Resident Evil 3 Remake demo is release in a similar time frame, which will be sometime in the next couple of weeks.

WRATH: Aeon of Ruin’s First Content Update Is Gore-geous

4 years 2 months ago

Early last year, 3D Realms announced WRATH: Aeon of Ruin, a retro throwback FPS that utilizes the old-but-spry Quake Engine. Now, the company is ready to show off the fruits of its labors with the game’s first content update.

According to a recent announcement and related trailer, the content update includes a new map, enemy, and artifact. The level in question, The Gardens, is a large, gothic, overgrown greenhouse that features a giant gnarled tree as its centerpiece. Despite its name, The Gardens is not a safe haven and is crawling with monsters.

Meanwhile, the update’s new enemy, The Wretch, is a barely humanoid amalgamation of flesh and metal with a giant mouth where the neck should be and a laser cannon sticking out of that mouth. Judging by the trailer, The Wretch can rapid fire this cannon, which means players who face it will have to be as quick on their toes as they are with the trigger.

Regarding the new artifact, the Confounding Attar, the announcement doesn’t go into any detail and just states it was added to the game. The trailer doesn’t seem to include any further information either.

However, WRATH: Aeon of Ruin’s content update is much more substantial than just a new level, monster, and artifact. It also features updated enemy encounters in the game’s preexisting levels, improved enemy AI, support for 4096×2160 resolutions (i.e., 4K resolution), and framerate cap options. Plus, the content update fixes a ton of bugs.

Artist Reimagines Animal Crossing Critters as RPG Heroes

4 years 2 months ago

Animal Crossing has never, and probably will never, be an RPG series but these gorgeous illustrations from Camila Cumplido (chiisao on Twitter) really make me want a turn-based RPG with Isabelle as a mage, Timmy and Tommy as Swordfighters, and perhaps K.K. Slider as a lonely ol’ bard.

As you can see in her tweet below, Camila has reimagined several fan-favorite characters from Nintendo’s life sim franchise and the images have gotten tons of attention from die-hard Nintendo fans, including myself:

If you want to see enlarged versions of the artwork, you can check out the illustrations right here as well:

I Entered a Pokemon Tournament and Now I Hate Everyone

4 years 2 months ago

I joined in on the festivities for the 2020 Oceania International Championships, and though I was unable to compete in the official tournament — it started on Friday, and apparently people who work full time aren’t worthy of participation — I gamely signed up for the Premier Challenge side event, capped at 32 players using standard VGC rules.

Making my tourney premiere at the Premier Challenge? It was worth it for the wordplay alone, man. Let’s meet the team!

Team name: Lambs to the Slaughter

Is FFXIV Really Going to Make Me Kill a Bunch of Orphans?

4 years 2 months ago

I spent pretty much the entirety of last week devouring every new bit of content that released for Final Fantasy XIV. Patch 5.2 was a seriously huge one, as it pushed the main story of FFXIV forward, while still feeding players with the new Eden raids, some NieR: Automata stuff, and a brand new Trial against the iconic Ruby Weapon from Final Fantasy VII.

Ruby Weapon was the final thing I tackled in patch 5.2, and it kickstarts a side plot that focuses on Gaius van Baelsar, the main antagonist of the Realm Reborn arc so many years ago. The setup is your typical fantasy fare: the evil Garleans are developing a new weapon –some type of new monstrosity– in their efforts to take over Eorzea, and it’s up to us to stop them.

The new Garlean weapon is quickly revealed to be Ruby Weapon, and it’s not long before Gaius enlists the help of the Warrior of Light to destroy it. Some stuff happens, there’s fighting, lots of explosions, the Ruby Weapon fight was cool, we killed the commander of the Weapon, we saved the world. It was nice. Until it wasn’t.

After the battle with Ruby Weapon, Gaius and the Warrior of Light encounter several Garlean soldiers, and we get a flashback to their past. As it turns out, these Garleans were all orphans that were taken in by Gaius when they were just kids. Gaius saw the potential in them, and knew that they would serve the Garlean Empire just fine. The orphans grew close to each other, forming an unbreakable bond that would carry them through their childhood days.

Rune Factory 4 Special Review – Farm Sim Royalty

4 years 2 months ago

Rune Factory 4 Special on Switch

While Rune Factory is a spin-off of the Harvest Moon series, each new installment manages to build upon the identity it’s been creating ever since it branched off back in 2006. Rune Factory 4 Special continues that idea, possibly even sporting the best personality of any game in the series so far.

Like the Nintendo DS version, simply titled Rune Factory 4, this edition of the game once again gives players the option to choose between a male or a female character. The twist is that instead of a simple farmhand, players get to be either a Prince and Princess… sort of, at least.

Soon after picking your character, the protagonist finds themselves caught in sheer chaos. In the mayhem, they fall from the airship they were traveling on, landing in the town of Selphia.

Upon landing, more calamity ensues, as the main character is mistaken for a member of royalty. While the confusion is quickly solved, the actual royal member, Arthur, gladly lets the player take over the position of Prince/Princess.

From here, the Rune Factory 4 Special shows off plenty of features that are known to the Rune Factory franchise. Crafting, mining, and loads of exploration result in a lot of activities to do right off the bat.

Final Fantasy XIV Is Going to Make Square Enix a Lot of Money Today With Y’shtola’s New DLC Dress

4 years 2 months ago

Today Square Enix released more of what it calls “Optional Items” for Final Fantasy XIV, and this one is going to make the publisher a lot of money.

Optional Items are basically what you think they are: cosmetic or convenience microtransactions that include several clothing sets quite popular among the game’s community.

If there is one who nearly all my friends in the game who play female characters have been clamoring for is the new outfit donned by Y’shtola in the recent Shadowbringers expansion.

Today Square Enix made it available for $12, with a separate purchase priced at $3 for her staff, Nightseeker.

You can see what they look like below.
