Rocket League PS5 Update Adds 120 FPS Mode, Ratchet & Clank Bundle

2 years 8 months ago

Earlier today, Max Parker from Psyonix revealed some new information about the update coming to the PS5 version of Rocket League tomorrow. If you have all of the compatible hardware you need, then you’ll be able to play Rocket League at 120 FPS for the first time ever on a PlayStation console.

Starting tomorrow (Aug. 18), an update will let players try out two brand-new video quality modes on the PS5 version of the game. The first is Quality mode which is displays a 4K checkerboard resolution running at 60 FPS with HDR. If you don’t have a 4K TV or monitor, then the game will display at 1080p supersampled down from 4K.

The PS4 Pro could do 60 FPS and 4K, but Performance mode is where you’ll get a never-before-seen feature in Rocket League on a PlayStation console. In Performance mode, the game will run at 120 FPS with HDR and a resolution that’s about 70% of 4K (2688×1512). Again, supersampling will be used on 1080p displays.

Aragami 2 Is All About Fast-Paced Stealth (Hands-on Preview)

2 years 8 months ago

As a huge fan of Naruto growing up, I’ve always had a thing for Shinobi. There is just something about the ability to sneak amidst the shadows unnoticed to complete your mission like a ghost. As soon as I started playing Aragami 2, I got that awesome sensation once again.

Aragami 2 is set 100 years after the events of the first game, placing players back in the role of an assassin that controls shadows with the purpose of protecting the Roshoman Valley from the Akatsuchi faction. Despite the time difference, it is a continuation of the story, following the same clan, though it does tell it through the eyes of a new custom character.

Shortly after creating this character and learning the ropes via the tutorial, it is revealed that everyone is plagued by a supernatural power, including my character. This power allows people to control shadows, giving them amazing abilities like teleportation and manipulation.

New B-17 Flying Fortress Game Announced by MicroProse

2 years 8 months ago

Today MicroProse announced with a press release that it will release a new B-17 Flying Fortress game.

The original B-17 Flying Fortress released in 1992 is likely one of the most iconic about the brand’s flight simulation title, so the news will likely prove welcome to many veterans.

On top of that, we learn that the developer is officially collaborating with the 100th Bomb Group Foundation for the creation of the game.

The press release included a statement from MicroProse’s CEO David Lagettie:

“The research support from the 100th Bomb Group Foundation key historians has enabled a level of authenticity not normally seen in simulation games today.

Stories of harrowing combat from the brave members of the ‘Bloody Hundredth’ group are vast. We have many books and primary source materials at our disposal that will help to recreate missions with a historic level of detail. Thorpe Abbotts airfield, the home of the 100th Bomb Group during the war, will be recreated with each building and local landmark in their place. Flying over the English countryside will look and feel like the conditions of how those B-17 aircraft operated.

We are very honored to have the opportunity to connect with the few veterans who are still standing and to help carry on their legacy of the Second World War.”

At the moment, no information has been shared on whether this new game is in any way connected with The Mighty Eighth, which has been announced by MicroProse itself about a year ago.

Lost Judgment for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, & Xbox One Gets New Details & Screenshots About Minigames

2 years 8 months ago

Today Sega has released a lot of screenshots and new details about its upcoming action game Lost Judgment.

The new assets focus on the play spots and minigames that we’ll be able to enjoy once we step back into Takayuki Yagami’s comfortable sneakers.

The skateboard park is exactly what it says on the tin. You can try to clear the score target of each challenge by performing tricks in a given time, and the setup of the park will change with each challenge as well.

You can earn points that can be exchanged for items, but you won’t get anything if you don’t beat the challenge’s objectives, so you need to balance tricks and completing the course.

There are also skateboard races in the city, that prompt you to compete against five skateboarders.

VR Paradise lets you play VR Dice & Cube and the drone shooting game Aiseiros.

In VR Dice & Cube (which is basically a VR board game) you can be involved in battles against other players if you stop on the same spot. Each player has a number of duplicates depending on their dice roll, and the last one standing wins.

Another event of the game is a climbing minigame in virtual reality that prompts you to climb a virtual wall within a time limit.

Battle events prompt you to fight unique encounters using things like VR railguns or martial arts with limited styles.

Aiseiros is a shooting game that you can play in Lost Judgment using the drone, which you control using the analog sticks, prompted to shoot down enemies coming from all directions. You clear stages by destroying a certain number of enemies within the time limit. You can also improve your drone’s durability and attack power by purchasing items.

Of course, the drone racing minigame is back with the DX League Ijincho, which lets you customize your drone and race against others.

Tales of Arise Commercial Is Romantic, Intense, & a Bit Spoilery

2 years 8 months ago

Today Bandai Namco released a new TV commercial for the upcoming cross-generation JRPG Tales of Arise.

If you don’t want any spoilers at all and the headline did not ward you off, you probably may want to head back to the front page.

If you’re still here, the commercial is quite romantic, featuring an intense moment between protagonists Alphen and Shionne, made even more poignant due to the curses affecting both of them.

The fact that a romantic spark would happen between the two was as likely as tomorrow’s sunrise, but this certainly appears to confirm it.

We also take a look at the other characters, most of whom appear to be portrayed in rather emotional moments.

You can check it out below, and also enjoy a bit of the song “Hello, Again ~ Mukashikara Aru Basho” performed by Ayaka. Unsurprisingly, it really fits.

Tales of Arise is coming on September 10 (September 9 in Japan) for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A demo is releasing soon.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Player Door-Dashes Stew Bowl All the Way Across the Map

Red Dead Redemption 2 is known for having a massive map. In fact, according to one player, it is about 29 square miles. In total, that takes about 16 minutes full sprint on a horse to get from one end to the other. But what if you were to do that while on foot…carrying a bowl of stew?

That is exactly what well-known Redditor GAME-LAPSE looked to accomplish in their most recent clip that was posted to the Red Dead Redemption 2 subreddit. As you can see down below, this impressive three-minute sped-up time-lapse shows that they were able to get Arthur from one point of the map to the other while carrying a bowl of soup.

Breath of the Wild Player Visits All Four Corners of the Map During Bird-Man Research Study

2 years 8 months ago

Breath of the Wild players have shown that there is no limit to what they can do in the game as long as they are creative. Whether that is sneaking into Gerudo Town without a disguise or never crossing over the same spot twice, it’ll never cease to be amazing what players are able to accomplish.

Another perfect example of this is how good Breath of the Wild players are at the windbombing technique, which has them drop a bomb under Link while gliding, then detonating it to get more air. Thanks to this, players have been able to do all sorts of crazy things, including paragliding all the way from Ridgeland Tower to Eventide Island. Despite how impressive that sounds, that insane amount of distance wasn’t enough for one Redditor.

In a post to the Breath of the Wild subreddit, user Zero_Skill_Samus revealed that they managed to visit all four corners of the map during the Bird-Man Research Study minigame. You can see the amazing feat below for yourself down below.

CD Projekt Red Releases New Details on Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.3

2 years 8 months ago

Earlier today on the official Cyberpunk 2077 website, CD Projekt Red released some brand-new details about the upcoming patch 1.3 for its latest release. Along with the written details, there were three YouTube videos released that focus on the major changes coming in the next update.

The three videos detail three different changes coming to Cyberpunk 2077 in the version 1.3 patch. The first focuses on the update coming to the minimap in the game. One of the team’s programmers, Andrzej, said, “With the new minimap system software update you are able to see more and navigate better.”

The promise of being able to see more could mean a number of things from being more detailed to actually showing more square footage on the minimap. Luckily, video number one down below clarifies this. It clearly shows that you’ll be able to see more of the area around the player with patch 1.3. It’ll be interesting to see how this improves navigation following the GPS pathing update in 1.2.

Second, it looks like there will be an update to the UI videos system. As UI programmer Natalia puts it,

“It was one of my first tasks when I moved to this project and I was digging into code for a long time because I wanted to understand our UI videos system, and at the end I realised that the problem is in video setup. Value for video time was shorter than the video sequence. This way, players will better understand the decision they are making in this story sequence.”

Ted Lasso’s Roy Kent Is the Vulgar, Wholesome Uncle I’ve Always Wanted

2 years 8 months ago

If you haven’t seen Ted Lasso, then you’re missing out on one of the best shows on television. Starring Jason Sudeikis, this Apple TV+ comedy tells the story of a small-time football coach, Ted Lasso, hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, despite having no experience coaching soccer.

As you can imagine, a calamity of errors, misunderstanding, and craziness occurs, as the team, management, and Ted have to figure out how to make this situation work. What follows is a brilliant amalgamation of comedy, character development, and wholesomeness that no one could have expected.

Ted, the supporting cast, and even the show’s antagonists all come together to tell a surprisingly emotional journey via the Richmond Football Club, all thanks to some amazingly written characters. As of season 2, it’s hard to say that any character has been more fascinating to watch than Roy Kent.

Like just about everyone in season 1, Roy Kent starts as kind of a pseudo-antagonistic force for Ted. He thinks the new coach is a joke and has no problem telling him off, using plenty of his patented colorful and aggressive language.

Twelve Minutes’ Suspenseful Launch Trailer Tees Up a Thrilling Mystery

2 years 8 months ago

We’ve had to wait a long time for developer Luis Antonio’s mysterious time-bending adventure game, Twelve Minutes, but the hour of launch is finally nearing, and today’s launch trailer dials up the anticipation.

If you’ve somehow not heard of Twelve Minutes, it’s a point-and-click adventure game that takes place in a single apartment suite shared by a man and his wife. It is played from a top-down perspective in 12-minute cycles that loop and repeat as different iterations of the same tragic tale are retold and reexperienced with slight variations; namely, the man learns his wife his pregnant before a police officer knocks on the door, accuses his wife of murder, and then attacks both of them, killing his wife and her unborn child in the process.

By changing responses to questions and performing certain actions, the player is then able to try and altar the course of events.

The game’s developer, Luis Antonio, first showcased the game back in 2015, but progress moved at a slow pace before publisher Annapurna Interactive helped him to finish the game during COVID-19. Not least, assisting in the casting of James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley, and Willem Dafoe as the game’s main characters. Its release this month was confirmed back in June, which came in tandem with a new trailer.

To celebrate its PC launch, Round8 Studio has prepared a special “Welcome Ticket Event,” which offers players the chance to redeem a bunch of cool in-game rewards. The event runs until Aug. 25; full details be found over on the game’s Steam page.

As has now become standard for Call of Duty games, it will be revealed via Warzone, the incredibly popular free-to-play battle royale spin-off.

Vanguard is being developed by Sledgehammer Games, who assisted in the development of Blacks Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare but whose last solo project was Call of Duty: WW2. During Activision’s latest financial earnings call, chief operating officer Daniel Alegre spoke of his confidence in the upcoming game:

Incredible Bloodborne First-Person PS4 Mod Gameplay Revealed

2 years 8 months ago

Many popular games are supported by modding communities, but only a select few are used as a platform for projects that totally transform their design. In the case of Bloodborne, one talented developer has finally completed a project that shifts the game’s third-person perspective to first-person, and a new trailer today showcases how incredible it looks.

Garden of Eyes explains in the trailer synopsis that the mod uses the same tools as a Dark Souls III first-person mod by Zullie the Witch. A comment from Zullie explains that “the First Person mod has a storied history, owing to the fact From Software has barely changed their camera from Demon’s Souls all the way to Sekiro, outside of the black sheep, Dark Souls II. In many ways, this is the same mod I created way back in Dark Souls, passed through Dark Souls III and Sekiro, finally snaking its tendrils into Bloodborne.”

Zullie also mentions that plans are in the works to start a first-person Elden Ring project as soon as possible!

As you’ll see below, the work from both Zullie and Garden of Eyes is top-notch. It really does boast a level of qualities that makes it appear more like an official patch than the work of a modding duo.

Those interested in trying it will be pleased to know that The Garden Eyes plans to release the mod in the near future, and, yes, it works in tandem with Lance McDonald’s 60 FPS patch. In the meantime, feast your eyes on the new trailer below.

2 years 8 months ago

Fans of Mortal Shell have a treat in store next week as publisher Playstack has announced that the game’s anticipated upcoming DLC, The Virtuous Cycle, will be free for players to download over the course of its first five days.

Kiron Ramdewar, Head of PC and Console at Mortal Shell’s publisher Playstack, said in a press release:

“Since we launched Mortal Shell back in August 2020 we have been thinking about how to give our fans something truly special that demonstrates our sincere appreciation for their support.

The Virtuous Cycle Expansion has been packed with content that fans of the genre will love, and provides a new unique way to experience the rich Mortal Shell universe. We can’t wait to see how new and old players will tackle our new roguelike mode when venturing into the depths of Fallgrim”.

If you’re not up to speed with The Virtuous Cycle, here’s the official synopsis:

The Virtuous Cycle reinvents your journey through Fallgrim and beyond as adversaries cycle and shuffle upon each death. Demanding and brutal as ever, now you can never be sure what lies ahead. The new expansion also grants players command over Hadern, once your elusive teacher, now yours to master as Mortal Shell’s fifth possessable Shell. Also available in the DLC is the Axatana, Fallgrim’s most venerable weapon. In your hands the Axatana bends to your will, assembling itself into a supreme heavy axe when the moment calls, and detaching into lightning-fast dual katanas when you desire. Unique movesets for both stances are yours to unlock.
