Final Fantasy XIV Brings Back The Rising to Celebrate the 8th Anniversary of Its Rebirth

2 years 8 months ago

Soon Square Enix will celebrate the 8th anniversary of the launch of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, which means that “The Rising” is coming back.

The event has been celebrated every year since 2014, reminding players of how the game was reborn from its ashes on August 27, 2013.

It’s an emotional moment for many players and the development team usually plays with our heartstring with the story included in the dedicated questline. Especially those who have been around since the very beginning in 2010 should likely prepare to shed a tear or 10.

The event will be available from August 27 (which is the anniversary of A Realm Reborn’s Release, one day after the end of the Moonfire Faire) until September 9.

To start the questline you need to talk with Kipih Jakkya in Ul’dah’s Steps of Nald district and you need to be at least level 15.

This year’s prizes include a Red Moon parasol and a Nymeia Potpurry firework, which you can see below.

WWE 2K22 Gets March 2022 Release Window & New Teaser Trailer

2 years 8 months ago

2K games just slapped a release window on its upcoming Wrestling game WWE 2K22.

The game will launch in March 2022, with platforms yet to be announced.

The game was announced all the way back in April, with another teaser trailer that showcased a rather detailed model of Rey Mysterio. Yet, it looks like we’ll have to wait longer for further information, which will be revealed in January 2022. That’s only two months before release.

The reveal came with a teaser trailer, which, while brief, shows some popular faces among the WWE roster.

The game seems to have adopted the “It hits different” catchphrase, and the official website has a newsletter form if you want to hear the news directly.

You can check it out for yourself below.

While platforms haven’t been announced, 2K games may be trying to hit wide to relaunch its Wrestling series after skipping WWE 2K21.

I would be surprised if it came to everything with a chip, from PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles all the way to the Nintendo Switch.

That being said, this is just my speculation, so we should wait and see what 2K announces next. We’ll see what they say in January.

Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon Gets New TV Commercial Introducing the Main Cast

2 years 8 months ago

Today Type-Moon released a new TV commercial of the remake of the legendary visual novel Tsukihime, titled Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon.

The trailer introduces the main cast of the game with particular attention on, Arcueid Brunestud, one of the main heroines.

You can enjoy the video below.

If you’re unfamiliar with Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon, it was originally an eroge released for Windows in December 2000 by Type-Moon, the creators of the Fate series. It was then adapted in 2003 into an anime series titled Shingetsutan Tsukihime.

It also inspired the Melty Blood fighting game series, and that’s also getting a new game, Melty Blood: Type Lumina.

Written by the extremely prolific Kinoko Nasu, it’s considered the predecessor of that Fate/stay night that spawned the super-popular Fate franchise. The similarities are certainly quite visible.

Microsoft Flight Simulator – Nieuport 17, Tutor T.1, Caproni-Vizzola C-22J, & Kuala Lumpur Airport Released; Split Announced & Embraer E170 Gets Dev Update

2 years 8 months ago

Microsoft Flight Simulator doesn’t know slow news days even on the weekend. Today third-party developers have released several add-ons.

We actually start with a development update from Ouroboros, which is working on an impressive Embraer E170. The update was posted on the developer’s Discord server.

Below you can check out screenshots from within the simulator and renders of both the exterior and interior of the aircraft. You can also read an update from the developer.

“Hello everyone! I’d like to show off our nearly completed beta cockpit 3D Model. The model renovations went okay with a lot of optimization and textures still needing love. While the textures are started this month, the displays will continue to get the magic sauce from our screen developer. The decals for the entire cockpit backlighting were put into place and they look outstanding at any angle and focal length.

We would like to demonstrate the jet in a development video, but we have not found a good way to set this up yet and we are rather busy with the jet development itself. Any free time we get goes into making the jet better day by day. Sim Update 5 posed a decent challenge for us this month as a few of our package builders refused to work all together.

I am glad to announce we have assembled our livery team on the E170! Quick Special shout out to Ashie, Holland, Noga for their continuous support when we need it through the screen development process. It means a lot to us!”

Oshawott Is on the Way for Pokemon GO September Community Day

2 years 8 months ago

Earlier today, Niantic revealed in a blog post that Oshawott will be the featured creature for Pokemon GO’s September Community Day event. This is the first time since January 2020 that a Water-type starter will be the single featured ‘mon for Community Day.

Starting at 11 AM local time until 5 PM local time on September 21, Oshawott will be appearing more often in the wild along with a shiny version of the Sea Otter Pokemon. And if you have some Rainy Lures on hand, you’ll be able to attract even more Oshawott by putting one of those special lures on a Poke Stop during the Community Day event.

And just like past Community Day events featuring a Water-type starter Pokemon, the fully evolved form of Oshawott (Samurott) will learn the attack Hydro Cannon. This is a powerful attack to use in raids, but it’s more commonly seen in PvP on Pokemon like Swampert and Blastoise.

But that’s not all Samurott will be getting for Community Day. For the first time, a featured Pokemon will get a new move permanently added to its move pool. The powerful Water-type attack, Razor Shell, is going to be a permanent addition to Samurott’s charge moves.

The list down below are all the same standard features that are in just about every Community Day event:

WarioWare: Get It Together!’s Demo Is Wild, Wacky, & Wonderful

2 years 8 months ago

It was a bit of an unexpected but quite welcome surprise for Nintendo to drop a demo for WarioWare: Get It Together! on the Switch eShop last night. The demo provides a small but ultimately satisfying taste into what to expect from the latest in the WarioWare series.

Upon opening it up, I was greeted by a gorgeously crafted cutscene where Wario triumphantly announcing the completion of his latest game. When the rest of the WarioWare Inc. crew gather around to see the game in action, Wario is befuddled by it not functioning. The handheld he holds soon reveals a creepy pair of smiling lips on its screen, quickly transporting the entire cast into its game world. Thus, the micro-game mayhem begins!

For those unfamiliar with the WarioWare series, it involves playing insanely quick mini-games that last on average about five seconds each. Each micro-game has a goal that you’re tasked with completing before time runs out. It’s also important to note that these games are unabashedly silly in all the right ways.

For instance, some of the micro-games in WarioWare: Get It Together! include quickly needing to tweeze the hairs from a statue’s armpits, keeping a ball in the air without it touching the ground, or shooing a series of flies away from a birthday cake off the screen, to name just a few.

Madden NFL 22 Review – Zero-Sum Game

2 years 8 months ago

Madden 22 on PlayStation 5

Generations of consoles have come and gone without Madden NFL 22 feeling like it has made a true generational leap. Personally, I believe the stagnation is more of a fault of the industry practices that have gone unquestioned now for decades, but regardless of where the fault for that lies, it exists. It’s amplified for the Madden franchise since it has been around for much longer than any other sports game.

The last two editions, this year and last, have solidified for me that I shouldn’t expect much from the Madden franchise anymore, even with new consoles and hardware. Madden has essentially become McDonald’s. You know what you’re going to get, and you either like it, or you don’t. There will hopefully be some new things added to the menu to mix things up from time to time, but you shouldn’t expect an overhaul any time soon.

For what it’s worth, though, I really do enjoy some of the new features that Madden 22 has brought this year. The most noticeable, by far is the addition of a game momentum meter and home-field advantage. While technically not new to EA-developed sports games, it existed in the NCAA series years ago, for dedicated Madden fans or people like me who don’t care about the NCAA, it’s going to feel fresh.

Under the umbrella of what is now being called “Dynamic Gameday” this feature adds a big bar at the top of your screen during games and as the game progresses, whichever team is making big plays more recently will start to push the bar in their favor like a virtual game of tug of war. As the bar progresses towards either the home or away team, they’ll receive perks, called M-Factors, that will benefit that team, such as unlimited stamina, blocking advantages, etc.

Halo Infinite Forge and Campaign Co-Op Will Be Post-Launch Updates

2 years 8 months ago

Earlier today, 343 Industries put out a development update video on YouTube going over some new details about the upcoming Xbox exclusive, Halo Infinite. Among the new information, there was also the news that two anticipated game modes will not be ready for launch.

To start, the producer of Halo Infinite, Sam Hanshaw, talked about how the preview went and what they learned. Overall, the team viewed the multiplayer preview as a success despite a few hiccups along the way. As Hanshaw put it, “It’s important to have those kinds of problems because those are the things we want to address now rather than have them crop up as a surprise at launch.”

At the end of Hanshaw’s time in the video, he announced that another big-scale flight like the one that happened in late July. The new flight will feature all of the same content as the last one plus four-on-four PvP and Big Team Battle. As of right now, there’s no indication of when this next flight will take place. It was also announced that this flight program will continue after Halo Infinite launches so players can test new features before they officially release.

You can take part in these flights by signing up to be a part of the Halo Insider Program.

Up next, Head of Creative, Joseph Staten, and Community Director, Brian “Ske7ch” Jarrard, reminisced about their time working together on Halo 3 ODST back in 2009. Getting into the actual content, Staten indicated that local split-screen will be available at launch for the console versions of Halo Infinite despite the mode’s absence in the recent flight.

Red Dead Online Lobby Organizes an Amazing Trail Ride to Mount Hagen

2 years 8 months ago

One of the coolest parts about the Red Dead Redemption 2 single-player story campaign is that you get to experience what riding together in a group of people was like back in the old west. You’d work together to provide for the overall camp, hunting, working, and surviving together as a group.

In Red Dead Online, this isn’t really as much of a focus. Sure, you can play with your friends and even meet new people to form a new posse, but it isn’t very easy. People often either only want to play story missions or end up focus their time griefing other players, shooting at them unrelentingly, even if unprovoked.

That is what makes the story that was posted to the Red Dead Online subreddit so impressive. In the post, user LDG192 told the story of how they were able to get their entire lobby to not only get together and not kill one another but also managed to form a trail ride to watch the sunset together.

Humankind Review – Greatness from Small Beginnings

2 years 8 months ago

Humankind on PC

The 4X grand strategy genre has long since been dominated by Sid Meier’s Civilization series, and for good reason too. The foundation of that series is so strong that it’s hard to talk about any other game in the genre without making some sort of reference to Civ. The two are practically synonymous at this point, which is what makes Humankind such an interesting prospect.

Developed by Amplitude, Humankind is, without a doubt, the biggest competitor to Civilization we’ve seen in recent years. Sporting a clean UI and a few new mechanics that help set it apart from Civ, Humankind does feel like a breath of fresh air and a worthy evolution of the genre… but it’s not without its missteps.

If you’ve played Civ, Humankind should feel immediately famililar. You’re exploring a large map made out of hexagonal tiles, you’re establishing outposts that soon become cities, and you’re building districts and researching various technologies to advance your empire and become the greatest civilization humankind has ever known. Right from the start, though, it’s clear that Humankind is a lot more interested in historical authenticity (not accuracy, mind you) than Civ ever was.

Instead of picking a set civilization to play as for the entire game, you start as a Neolithic tribe that’s just wandering the lands, hunting animals and looking for a place to settle down. It’s only when you’ve found your roots and made enough progress as a tribe that you’re able to enter the Ancient Era, and that’s when you get to pick a culture to follow for that era. And here’s the kicker: you get to pick a new culture each time you enter a new era.

Deathloop Multiplayer PvP Showcased & Explained With New Gameplay Featuring Julianna

2 years 8 months ago

Today, during a panel at Quakecon, Arkane Lyon provided an in-depth look at the multiplayer feature of Deathloop.

The antagonist Julinana Blake can be played by the AI, but also by another player, who can decide to invade the game of a random player or a friend.

While the protagonist has three lives, Julianna only has one, so she needs to play more carefully, but she has all the powers the protagonist has.

Defeating a player-driven Julianna restores all of a player’s reprisals, and she also drops powerful loot.

Playing as Julianna is optional, and it doesn’t grant campaign progression. Arkane simply wants it to be for fun.

You can check out the video of the panel below, showcasing plenty of gameplay showing Julianna in action.

Deathloop is coming on PlayStation 5 and PC on September 14, 2021. We already know that the console exclusivity for PlayStation 5 is timed.
