No Man’s Sky Celebrates 5th Anniversary By Teasing New ‘Frontiers’ Update

2 years 8 months ago

No Man’s Sky is easily one of the most infamous titles in video game history, thanks to its extremely rocky launch and poor state at release. The game lacked many of its core promised features when it launched, resulting in heavy fan backlash.

However, Hello Games continued to work on the game and slowly pushed out several free updates that eventually added those same promised features, and even more. With the game now celebrating its fifth year anniversary, Hello Games has put out a short video looking back at all of the updates we’ve seen so far, along with a tease of what’s coming next.

You can check out the trailer for yourself down below.

Frontiers has been revealed to be the title of the next update in No Man’s Sky, and while there are no details yet, the name alone suggests that there might be even more new planets and biomes to explore. The game is now available on PC and consoles, and we’ll keep you updated as more info comes our way.

South African Valorant Players Are Tearing Up EU Servers on 170 Ping

2 years 8 months ago

The next time you feel the need to make an excuse for your poor performance in a Valorant ranked game, don’t. Just keep quiet and take it on the chin. That’s what I’ve been telling myself over the past few weeks, anyway, ever since watching aspiring South African Valorant pro Garret ‘Mangolorian’ Laird top-frag a Diamond Elo game with 170 MS.

Playing on a European server over 7,000 miles away from his home in Midrand, South Africa, Mangolorian somehow put us all to shame; we watched in disbelief as he landed headshots on players who appeared to be a foot behind his crosshair, and laughed hysterically as his dead body teleported back to a wall or box he’d passed seconds earlier whenever he was taken out.

As extraordinary as all this was to us, though, for Mangolorian it’s the norm. South Africa doesn’t have its own Valorant servers, he explained during the game, and so his best option is to play on Europe’s, which means he’s faced with the daunting task of having to compete with absurdly high ping.

Check out that lag!

Still confused and slightly disheartened that he’d just out fragged me even despite a massive disadvantage, I had to learn more. As it turns out, he’s even better than he’d been letting on, and the unusual South African Valorant scene is far bigger than I could have imagined.

The Ascent Gets a New Patch that Adds Ray Tracing for Windows 10 Players

2 years 8 months ago

The Ascent is a new cyberpunk-themed co-op shooter game that just got released for PC and consoles, and while we didn’t exactly have the best time with it, there’s no denying that it’s a pretty game. However, the game hasn’t been without its issues on PC.

Those playing the Windows 10 or Xbox Game Pass version have noticed that there’s no ray tracing available in that version, even though it’s available in the Steam one. However, Neon Giant is addressing that issue with a new patch out for PC today.

Here are the big changes for PC:

  • Fixes to improve performance in DX12, also with Ray Tracing.
  • Note to Players: on first running of the update, there will be a 20-25 second ‘stall’ on loading to Main Menu to allow some caching to happen before you play. This is a one time event.
  • Ray Tracing is now available to Players on the Windows Store.
  • Improved loading in of NPCs
  • CPU performance mode for lower-end PCs

The patch also includes new stability and gameplay fixes for all platforms, and you can check out the full patch notes here.

Apex Legends’ New Seer Legend Is “A Bit Too Strong,” Will Be Nerfed Soon

2 years 8 months ago

With the new Emergence update for Apex Legends, we’ve also seen the release of the Seer Legend, who launched with an exciting set of skills and abilities for players to mess around with. However, as we’ve seen from the subreddit so far, it looks like the player base is pretty much in agreement that the Seer is a little bit too powerful at the moment.

In a Reddit AMA session, Respawn agreed that the Seer definitely needed some balancing updates, as some of his skills such as his ability to disrupt player revives were a bit too skewed in his favor at the moment.

While we didn’t get a concrete time frame for when the new balance update would be released, Respawn did promise that it was coming soon, and that players wouldn’t have to wait till the midseason.

The Back 4 Blood Beta Smashed 98K Concurrent Players on Steam Over the Weekend

2 years 8 months ago

Back 4 Blood is the new Left 4 Dead successor from Turtle Rock Studios, allowing four players to team up and fight against hordes of zombies in a co-op action game. From what we’ve played of the alpha and beta so far, it’s definitely shaping up to be a worthy successor, and we’re not the only ones who think so.

According to SteamDB, as spotted by PCGamesN, the Back 4 Blood beta managed to reach a peak of 98,024 players, which is really impressive, and even beats out games like Team Fortress 2 and Warframe, both also very popular multiplayer games with a solid player base.

Back 4 Blood takes the L4D formula and puts a spin on it with a card system that allows players to receive buffs or other perks during a round. The game is set to be released for PC and consoles on Oct. 12.

Only True Metroid Fans Can Ace this Trivia Quiz

2 years 8 months ago

The Metroid franchise is now officially 35 years old, as the very first game was released on the Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1986. Since then, the series has grown with multiple main series games, spin-offs, and appearances in other media.

For 35 years, we played as Samus Aran the bounty hunter as she traveled across hostile alien planets to protect the galaxy from the Space Pirates that want to harness the power of the Metroids. The Metroid games mix platforming elements with exploration, and they usually place players in isolated experiences.

While the original game started the series as a 2D side-scroller, the franchise has taken steps into the first-person perspective with the Prime games. Even though Metroid hasn’t always been a top seller, the game has retained a dedicated fanbase, and Samus, along with other characters, have appeared in Super Smash Bros. and other games.

Not many games can say they’ve inspired an entire genre; Metroid is responsible for defining the Metroidvania genre of games that feature nonlinear, explorable worlds.

As we celebrate Metroid’s 35th anniversary and look forward to upcoming games in the series, we want to see just how much you know about the franchise. Only true Metroid fans will be able to ace this trivia quiz about the series. Think you know everything there is to know? Take this quiz to find out.

Mario Golf: Super Rush’s New Donk City Update Is a Hole in One

2 years 8 months ago

Yesterday, Nintendo released the first substantial update for Mario Golf: Super Rush. In this brand-new Super Rush update is a new course, a new playable character, a new mode, and several improvements to make for a more enjoyable experience out on the Mushroom Kingdom links.

Most notably is the arrival of an all-new course, New Donk City from Super Mario Odyssey fame. It looks like the map was lifted directly from Odyssey, looking oh-so-familiar in all the best ways. This particular 18-hole course is a special one because like Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour’s Congo Canopy and Mario Golf: World Tour’s Sky Island, New Donk City is entirely comprised of Par 3 holes.

Mario Golf: Super Rush New Donk City

Essentially, New Donk City is 36 all-new holes, because there is an amateur tee and a pro tee choice players can choose at the start of their rounds. Both feature different tee and green locations.

This Attack on Titan Beast Titan Transformation Animation Is Breathtaking

2 years 8 months ago

In the four seasons, it’s been an anime, Attack on Titan has proved itself to be one of the most impressive shows ever made, featuring amazing fight scenes and insanely detailed storylines. Unfortunately, the live-action adaptations haven’t hit the same mark, as it just seems to be a difficult transition to make things work with CGI compared to animation.

One animator is proving that it isn’t impossible for Attack on Titan to look sick using live-action, which you can see down below.

In the post to the official Attack on Titan Subreddit, Redditor Againnagainforever showed off an animation that was created by Masashi Imagawa. In the short clip, we get a shot of the Beast Titan transforming, the Walls of Paradis, and even some Survey Corp members using their vertical maneuvering equipment to get to the scene faster.

The Medium’s PS5 DualSense Features Detailed in New Trailer

2 years 8 months ago

Blooper Team is readying itself to launch its acclaimed psychological horror The Medium on PlayStation 5, and those intent on playing the game can look forward to a bunch of DualSense features highlighted in a new trailer today.

Narrator Michał Napora explains how Blooper Team is “spicing up the game with some DualSense features.” This includes the use of the controller’s adaptive triggers to increase and decrease the resistance encountered when attempting to charge and use Spirit Blasts. Also, haptic feedback heightens immersion by offering different sensations according to what’s going on around Marriane as she navigates the game’s mysterious locale, an abandoned communist-era vacation resort in the Polish wilderness. It also indicates how much breath Marianne has left when evading The Maw.

Szymon Erdmański, producer at Bloober Team, also weighed in with a statement on today’s trailer:

“On PlayStation 5, we are taking full advantage of the console’s DualSense controller to immerse you even deeper into the mystery of the Niwa Hotel. Our goal is to let you feel Marianne’s reactions to what is happening as she explores and interacts with the game world.”

Compile Heart released a new trailer of Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars, known as “Senran Nin Nin Ninja Taisen Neptunia: Shojo-Tachi no Kyoen” in Japan.

The trailer focuses on the playable characters that don’t come from either of the titular series. Those are new waifu Yuki and Goh the Crow, a genderbent version of the protagonist of Shinobido: Way of the Ninja.

You can check them both out below.

Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars is a crossover between the Hyperdimension Neptunia series and Senran Kagura, finally bringing the latter back to consoles.

It’s coming for PS4, developed by Tamsoft and published by Compile Heart. The Japanese release is on Sept. 16, 2021, while the west will get it at some point this year, courtesy of Idea Factory international. Here’s how the publisher describes it.

Gamninjustri – a place where all manner of ninjas gather. As the struggle for control increased between the Daimyos of the nations, tensions rose between the two great nations, each of which was home to one of the major schools of martial arts.
