Today during the Future Games Show at Gamescom 2021, we saw exclusive new footage from the upcoming title Life is Strange: True Colors. This trailer focuses on the protagonist Alex Chen’s special powers that allow her to see and experience other people’s emotions.

This new gameplay footage takes place during chapter 2 of True Colors after Alex has begun to settle into her new home of Haven Springs. New Falling Frontier Trailer Details Gameplay System Depth

2 years 8 months ago

Earlier today during the Awesome Indies Show a new trailer detailing the sheer depth of gameplay in Falling Frontier was shown off. This PC-only game is a sci-fi RTS title that also mixes in some elements of the 4X genre.

Like your standard RTS games, a big part of Falling Frontier’s gameplay is all about resource management. Each ship in your flotilla consumes ammunition every time you jump into battle. But on top of that, the crews operating the ships will consume food.

And you’ll want to make sure that you keep your crew safe because even inside of the ships they are not sure to be safe. The people commandeering the ship can sustain damage and injuries during battles just like the outside of the ships do.

Besides the resource management, there’s also a bit of customization to the ships which is more common in the 4X genre. Just like how your crew and ship internals can be damaged in battle, they are also upgradeable to becoming stronger and more effective.

And if you really want to get sneaky, it’ll even be possible to upgrade your ship to give it the ability to latch onto a nearby asteroid in order to hide from enemies. From there, you’ll be able to launch a surprise attack on any enemies that are unfortunate to pass by your hiding spot.

And if you’re very lucky the enemy ships that pass by will have crew members with key information on ship movements. If that’s the case, then you’ll be able to capture enemy combatants and interrogate them. You won’t know beforehand what information they have if any, but it’s worth trying. Conversely, you can also save friendly crewmembers from their ships if they end up in a tight spot.

Overwatch to Rename McCree; Planned Story Arc Pushed Back

2 years 8 months ago

In a post to their official Twitter account today, Overwatch revealed that they will be renaming the damage hero known as McCree. In the tweet, it was stated that the decision to rename the character came after backlash regarding what the character represented.

We’ve included the entire statement for you below.

We built the Overwatch universe around the idea that inclusivity, equity, and hope are the building blocks of a better future.

As we continue to discuss how we best live up to our values and to demonstrate our commitment to creating a game world that reflects them, we believe it’s necessary to change the name of the hero currently known as McCree to something that better represents what Overwatch stands for.

We realize that any changes to such a well-loved and central hero in the game’s fiction will take time to roll out correctly, and we’ll share updates as his work progresses. In the near term, we had planned to kick off a narrative arc in September supported with new story and game content, of which McCree was a key part. Since we want to integrate this change into the story arc, we will be delaying the new arc until later this year and instead launch a new FFA map this September. Going forward, in-game characters will no longer be named after real employees and we will be more thoughtful and discerning about adding real world references in future Overwatch content.

3v3v3 Shooter Nine To Five Is Available Now in Early Access on Steam

2 years 8 months ago

The Awesome Indies Gamescom stream is coming to a close, and tactical shooter Nine to Five has just shown a new trailer to give us a good look at several of its gameplay features. And surprisingly, the game is available now to download in Early Access on Steam.

Nine to Five received a Gamescom Opening Night Live trailer just yesterday that teased the fact that players would be able to get their hands on the game “soon,” and it turns out that soon is now.

The trailer from the Awesome Indies stream is a lot more mellow than you’d expect from an FPS game, but it was presented a lot like an onboarding video for a company.

You can have a look at the trailer below that comes from IGN’s YouTube channel to see everything above for yourself. It’ll also show you the calm onboarding-type video that was used to make the Steam Early Access announcement for Nine to Five.

Feel free to check out the brand new gameplay trailer down below (H/T, IGN):

For those unaware, Dice Legacy is an upcoming roguelike that blends boardgame, RTS and city-building mechanics while mixing in some pretty unique dice-centric gameplay, too. Every action is seemingly performed by rolling dice and letting fate take control.

Arcadian Atlas Continues to Look Like a 90s TRPG Fan’s Dream Game in New Gameplay Trailer; Will Release in 2022

2 years 8 months ago

Arcadian Atlas the kickstarted tactical-RPG game inspired by 90s classics such as Tactics Orge, Fire Emblem, and Final Fantasy Tactics received a new trailer today at Gamescom 2021 showing off more of what to expect. It also confirmed a release window of 2022; still vague but better than nothing.

What should stand out from the trailer to 90s TRPG fans is the aesthetics, the story centered around political drama, and of course the varied character classes. A blonde woman murders a soldier of some kind, leaving him in a bloody pool of water as she demands another character to “shuffle the atlas,” likely an important item key to the story.

There are a total of twelve+ classes planned and eight were shown off during the trailer: Apothecary, Warmancer, Cavalier, Ranger, Druid, Sorcerer, Reaver, and Ronin. In addition, the trailer touts over 150 skills that will be obtainable between all of the classes, hopefully allowing for some deep strategy and troop customization.

The Kickstarter has a wealth of interesting information about the game in case it’s your first time hearing of Arcadian Atlas.

New Roots of Pacha Trailer Digs Deep Into Design Ideas

2 years 8 months ago

Earlier today during the Awesome Indies Show a new trailer for Roots of Pacha detailed the thoughts and ideas that are going into the creation of this title. The game is being developed by Soda Jam, a pair of brothers who were just wanting to play more co-op games together while being physically apart.

One of the important themes in Roots of Pacha is all about looking at how certain things that we take for granted came to be such as harnessing fire to humanity’s benefit, domesticating wild animals, storage of surplus food, irrigation, and much more.

The game also looks at how early humans lived and how they started from seemingly nothing to building societies where people can not only survive, but thrive.

This game releases for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam next year. As of right now, there is no more specific launch window for Roots of Pacha within 2022. The game is currently available to wishlist on Steam.

Townscaper Brings Adorable City Building to Nintendo Switch & PC Today

The adorable little city builder is actually available right now on PC and Nintendo Switch.

You can check the trailer out below, courtesy of IGN.

If you’d like to learn more about Townscaper, you can read the official description below.

“Build quaint island towns with curvy streets. Build small hamlets, soaring cathedrals, canal networks, or sky cities on stilts. Block by block.

No goal. No real gameplay. Just plenty of building and plenty of beauty. That’s it.

Townscaper is an experimental passion project. More of a toy than a game. Pick colors from the palette, plop down colored blocks of house on the irregular grid, and watch Townscaper’s underlying algorithm automatically turn those blocks into cute little houses, arches, stairways, bridges and lush backyards, depending on their configuration.”

Atmospheric Seafaring Puzzle Game, FAR: Changing Tides, Releases Developer Gameplay Walkthrough

2 years 8 months ago

The follow-up to FAR: Lone Sails, FAR: Changing Tides, received a new trailer today during Gamescom 2021 complete with some developer commentary to help players get a feel for the goals of this sequel.

Both FAR titles are puzzle games that focus on operating vehicles, usually a ship, but in this walkthrough, we see the character actually merge their ship into a train and getting it moving by collecting resources and physically getting the coal burning.

I think it’s designed to be almost therapeutic in a way, and even if that’s not the intent, that’s the vibe I get at least by watching its gameplay in action, which you can do for yourself down below via IGN.

The first FAR game was well-received when it was released back in 2018, and developer Okomotive will hopefully see another positive response with Changing Tides when it releases on consoles and PC in 2022.

New Squadron 51 Gameplay Trailer Debuted at Awesome Indies Show

2 years 8 months ago

Earlier today during the Awesome Indies Show another look at gameplay for the black and white 2D sci-fi shooter known as Squadron 51 was shown off. This game is the first project to come from developers Loomiarts.

The entire style of the trailer was like something out of an American 1950s informational video. The gameplay will likely get compared to that of Cuphead, because of the old-timey feeling.

But the black and white aesthetic combined with FMV art style in Squadron 51 is something completely different.

It was revealed by the narrator of the trailer that a playable prologue for the game will be available “soon” but no specific date was mentioned. It was also mentioned that this prologue will contain three levels to try out for free.

No release dates were mentioned during the trailer, but the Squadron 51 Steam page indicates the release window is still set for 2022. There is also a demo for the game available on Steam, but it appears that this has nothing to do with the prologue that was announced in today’s trailer.

The game is currently set for a 2022 launch on the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Cantata, an Eerie, Spiritual, Sci-Fi Tactical-RPG Releases Its First Gameplay Trailer at Gamescom 2021

2 years 8 months ago

Cantata, a very unique-looking tactical-RPG from developer Afterschool Studios, just released its first gameplay trailer at Gamescom 2021, giving players a peek at this fresh take on the genre.

The game uses a grid-like style where players can move a certain amount of spaces to engage enemies and objectives. Fog of war is present, and players will need to be careful about where they tread it seems. It’s difficult to get a feel of what exactly is going on without developers explaining, but there’s definitely some trademark TRPG gameplay at work here.

The narration over the trailer is quite spooky and sounds like some kind of cultist speech. In addition, the visuals of the cutscenes are also very eerie and “raw” looking almost looking like incomplete drawings that were colored in and brought to life. It’s hard to explain, and I don’t mean that as a knock, it’s actually quite striking!

Take a look for yourself below via the trailer provided by IGN. At the moment all we know is that Cantata is “coming soon” for Steam.

Serial Cleaners Gets a New Gameplay Trailer at Gamescom; Coming Early 2022 to PC & Consoles

2 years 8 months ago

Today, during Gamescom’s Awesome Indies Show livestream, Polish indie developer Draw Distance dropped a new gameplay trailer for their upcoming stealth-focused murder-’em-up, Serial Cleaners – a sequel to 2017’s Serial Cleaner.

Specifically, the new video gave viewers an exclusive sneak peek at a bunch of the the characters that’ll feature in the game. Go ahead and check out the new trailer down below (H/T, IGN):

As you can see, there appears to be a myriad of different characters that will star in Serial Cleaners. Viper, Bob and Psycho feature prominently in this new trailer, which helps portray the moment-to-moment clean-’em-up gameplay in action.

For those unaware, the elevator pitch for Serial Cleaners is that you’re a professional cleaner who works for the mob who has to, well, clean up all the incriminating evidence from murder scenes. Essentially, it’s a lot like playing a game as Harvey Keitel’s infamous Winston “The Wolf” character from Pulp Fiction. Pretty cool, right?

New Comanche Trailer Celebrates its Full Launch Today From Early Access

2 years 8 months ago

Once a mainstay of consoles back in the 1990s, helicopter shooters are few and far between these days, but Comanche is aiming to bring them back with the launch of its full version today after a period in Early Access. A new trailer celebrates its launch, which is nearly two years on from its initial reveal, and showcases some of the action players can look forward to.

If you’re not up to speed with Comanche then here’s an overview of the game via its Steam page:

Comanche is a modern helicopter shooter set in an alternative future. Fight in the evolving singleplayer campaign, master your skills in Conflicts missions, or compete with other players in the explosive team-based multiplayer modes.

Evolving singleplayer campaign – Fight in the evolving singleplayer campaign and make a difference in a conflict of global proportions. After the Iran-US RQ170 incident, in which a UAV was hacked and captured through cyber warfare, the US army secretly revived the development of the RAH-66 helicopter program for special operations. The goal was to develop a highly maneuverable and advanced stealth war machine capable of deploy low-range drones operating in high-risk environments.

The program was a total success, and the Comanche special units seemed unstoppable in their missions. But then, when the blueprints leaked through a whistleblower website, every group, and power, who could afford it, built and modified the Comanche for their purposes. With that, a new era of helicopter warfare had begun.

6 Big Things to Look Forward to in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen

2 years 8 months ago

New Weapon: Glaives

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen will add a brand new, never before seen weapon type — the first since bows were added in Forsaken. Glaives in Destiny 2 will be spear-like melee weapons with a couple of twists.

For starters, they are used in first-person, unlike the third-person view that is seen when using Swords. They also occupy the energy slot instead of the power slot, meaning it should be easier to use them more frequently in combat.

Glaives have their own set of combos that will allow you to strike an enemy up close multiple times, but what makes them stand out is that they can also fire an energy blast that can hit enemies at mid-range. It’s not confirmed exactly how it works, but if we had to take a guess, it’ll like have a system similar to how sword special moves work. Or maybe not! Maybe you can fire off your Glaive as a mid-range weapon all you want, we’ll have to wait and see.

What we do know, is how you’ll get your first Glaive.

New NHL 22 Gameplay Trailer Features Augmented Reality, Enhanced Stick Physics, & More

2 years 8 months ago

Earlier today, the EA Sports NHL YouTube channel released a brand-new gameplay trailer for NHL 22 going over the implementation of the Frostbite Engine, Superstar X-Factors, enhanced stick physics, and augmented reality.

The host of the video, EA Sports NHL VP and GM, Sean Ramjagsingh, first mentions that this is the first NHL game for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS4, or PS5 to feature EA’s Frostbite Engine. The previous game, NHL 21, instead used the older Ignite Engine.

SR Presentation Designer, David Pritchett, first goes into detail on how Frostbite will change the overall look of NHL 22. This new engine will improve the overall visual quality of the NHL franchise when it comes to the nitty-gritty details like lens flares, snow kicked up by skates, player eye movement, and more. On top of that the plexiglass, ice, and other clothing materials more realistically absorb and reflect light thanks to Frostbite.

Then, Gameplay Producer, Tyson Sawatzki, detailed how Superstar X-Factors will impact gameplay. The X-Factors are essentially skills specific players have that give them a boost to their abilities above what a regular player has. The six X-Factor categories are Shooting, Skating, Passing, Hockey IQ, Defense, and Goaltending.

Across all six categories, there are 29 different abilities that fit into a player’s premiere zone abilities and their secondary superstar abilities. These abilities are present in all game modes, giving players the option to strategically plan for matchups based upon X-Factors.

Insurgency: Sandstorm Finally Gets a Console Release Date

2 years 8 months ago

Like so many tactical and mil-sim shooters, Insurgency: Sandstorm is likely to have piqued the interest of console fans right up until the moment they discovered it was only available on PC. It had, in fact, been slated for a console release years ago before word on the port fell silent. After a three year wait, though, Insurgency: Sandstorm is finally set to appear on consoles.

Truth be told, it won’t come as a huge surprise to anybody with their finger on the pulse; Maximum Games UK earlier this month Tweeted that it was on its way. It even offered a pre-order registration for interested parties. The actual date, though, was never confirmed. Until now.

Insurgency: Sandstorm is coming to PlayStation 4 & Xbox One on Sept. 29, 2021. It will also be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at 4K resolution and 60 FPS via backward compatibility. In 2022, the game will receive further next-gen enhancements, with support for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S console features.

The news comes by way of a trailer showcasing the game running on consoles for the very first time. Check it out below.

For those not up to speed with Insurgency: Sandstorm, here’s the official description:

Park Beyond Developer Explains Why PS4 & Xbox One Were Skipped as Game Comes to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, & PC

2 years 8 months ago

Yesterday Bandai Namco and Limbic Entertainment announced the park simulator Park Beyond for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

With many developers still sticking to old-generation consoles and releasing their games as cross-generation, Twinfinite asked the developers why they decided to skip PS4 and Xbox One.

Producer Marco Huppertz explained that the game is going to be quite complex and the developers did not want to make compromises.

This was a decision that we made at some point throughout the production because we knew that in Park Beyond there are going to be a lot of systems and a lot going on. With thousands of visitors visiting your park and eventually the simulation becoming bigger and bigger, we just did not want to make any sacrifice in terms of development, because the new-gen consoles definitely do allow more technical capabilities for us.

Therefore, staying on older-gen consoles would have been a limiting factor for a lot of topics. Since we had the premise of delivering the same experience for both PC players and console players, the decision was made on our side that we’re only going to support new-gen consoles.

Asked whether that means that we should give up on the idea of a Switch port, Huppertz mentioned that it isn’t planned for the release, but “let’s see what happens at later stages.”

You can expect to read the full interview here on Twinfinite soon.

Park Beyond is coming in 2022 for #PS5, #Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
