EA CEO Shares Update on Future of Battlefield 2042 and Battlefield Mobile’s Potential Launch Window

1 year 11 months ago

Today, during Electronic Arts’ quarterly financial conference call for analysts and investors, chief executive officer Andrew Wilson talked about the future of Battlefield 2042 and Battlefield Mobile.

Wilson mentioned that he expects the Battlefield franchise to continue to grow and be an important part of EA’s portfolio for many, many years to come.

The Battlefield 2042 team now has “incredible leadership” and is rethinking the development process from the ground up, and using the Vince Zampella/Respawn model to “get to the fun as quickly as possible.”

They’ve been doing thousands of updates for the community working on the quality of life and getting the core game right.

Wilson believes there’s more work to do and the team is committed to doing that work for the community. Beyond that, once they get to a place in which they feel they’re in the right place for the core experience and core game, we should expect EA to invest and grow beyond what the game is at today.

Speaking of Battlefield Mobile, it’ll go into further testing at the end of May and subject to the metrics and data seen during the test, “we may look toward the end of this year, beginning of next year for global launch.”

That being said, Wilson added that in mobile it all comes down to the tuning and balancing once the game goes into the closed beta phase.

Here’s Why Some Microsoft Flight Simulator DLC Aircraft Cost More Than the Game Itself

1 year 11 months ago

After over a year and a half from its release, Microsoft Flight Simulator has naturally reached a stage of maturation in which advanced airliner aircraft add-ons have completed their usually long development cycles and are finally being released, but their prices may be shocking to those not used to the flight simulation hobby.

Over the course of fewer than two weeks, Leonardo released its McDonnell Douglas MD-82, Just Flight released its BAE 146, and PMDG released its Boeing 737-700.

Their pricing ranges from approximately $65 to $80, which is higher than the price of the standard edition of the whole simulator ($59.99).

It’s not surprising that many at her first simulator consider these prices excessive, or even outrageous. Yet, there are reasons behind this.

First of all, we have to clarify that Microsoft is not directly involved with the development and pricing of these add-ons. They’re created by independent third-party developers that decide their own pricing autonomously. Microsoft is simply providing the platform and tools for them to operate.

Loki Season 2 Starts Filming Next Month

1 year 11 months ago

Earlier today, it was revealed that Loki Season 2 will start production next month. According to the Film & Television Industry Alliance website, filming for the sophomore season begins June 6, 2022, and is set to take place in London, England.

The first season of this Disney+ show debuted back in June 2021, following the story of the Variant, Loki, who was derived from a mistake the Avengers made in Marvel’s Endgame. This season explores the multiverse, and even delves into the idea of other versions of the character, including a female version of the character known as Sylvie.

The season finale of Loki left fans with a cliffhanger of what is to come for our favorite God of Mischief, and the aftermath of consequences from Sylvie’s actions. The Marvel community was left puzzled because of the reveal of the figurehead in control of the Time Variance Authority and all the mysteries entangled with him.

The next season does not have much concrete information about what it will entail; the only evidence to go on is the few minutes of events that take place in the season finale.

Tales of Luminaria Set to Be Shut Down Less Than a Year After Release

1 year 11 months ago

Bandai Namco announced today that the mobile JRPG Tales of Luminaria will be shut down on July 19.

The game was released on November 2021, meaning that its active service will end up lasting just a little more than half a year, which is certainly unflattering, despite the promotional effort that even included an anime production.

This comes hot on the heels of the closure of Tales of Crestoria, which has been closed in February after one year and a half from its release.

Bandai Namco has released plenty of mobile games dedicated to the popular Tales of JRPG franchise, but it seems that such efforts aren’t being met by success.

The developers posted a message on the official site mentioning that unfortunately, they weren’t able to do enough to make the game a success, apologizing to all of those who have supported and played Tales of Luminaria.

Below you can read a summary of what players can expect until July.

About Future Episodes

Weekly episode distribution will end with this announcement. We apologize for the sudden notice, as you may have been expecting a new announcement of the next episode. We unfortunately will not be able to fully depict the fate of the 21 heroes and must end the episodes in the middle of the story. Even more, some characters will be left without getting an episode 2. We are very sorry for leaving these stories untold.

Valorant Patch 4.09 Notes Reveal Chamber Trip Nerf

1 year 11 months ago

Chamber’s release last year saw the Agent quickly rise to the very top of Valorant’s meta, so much so that he’s become a must-pick on nearly every map in both ranked and professional play. Today, Riot Games has revealed changes for the game’s latest patch that are aimed at nerfing his impact somewhat; specifically, his Trademark trips.

It’s a change that is likely to cause some controversy given that, at a glance, it reduces Chamber’s effectiveness as a sentinel, the role he is designed for and puts a stronger focus on duelist-like gunplay. Riot, however, has indicated its vision for Chamber isn’t to have a strong, universal intel and slow ability via trips but to hold down spike sites with gunplay. Here’s what Riot’s Jeff Landa said on the matter in today’s patch notes:

Right now, Chamber’s Trademark outperforms other Sentinel tools in both reliability and power, which feels inappropriate given the amount of defensive combat tools Chamber has spread across the rest of his kit. We believe Chamber’s identity is defined by his unique weapons and defensive combat mobility, so we are decreasing his level of global flank protection/information and increasing counterplay on a single premium trap. This means Chamber will have to make a choice based on if he wants to play selfishly around his Trademark, or place it to help his teammates instead.

Jay Watford, lead Agent designer, and Dan Hardison, game designer also weighed in with “a quick note about Sentinels:”

FIFA Officially Renamed EA Sports FC as Partnership With Soccer Governing Body is Set to End

1 year 11 months ago

Today Electronic Arts officially announced that the ultra-popular FIFA franchise of soccer games has a new name.

The franchise will be renamed EA Sports FC starting next year following the end of the partnership with FIFA, the governing body of association soccer (or football, if you’re in Europe). That being said, there will be one more FIFA game before this happens.

The announcement comes as no surprise considering that the partnership had been on shaky foundations for a while, but Electronic Arts mentions that the next game will still include over 300 license partners across the sport.

The new game promises “the same great experiences, modes, leagues, tournaments, clubs, and athletes will be there. Ultimate Team, Career Mode, Pro Clubs, and VOLTA Football.”

It will also come with 19,000+ players, 700+ teams, 100+ stadiums, and 30 leagues, including Premier League, LaLiga, Bundesliga, Serie A, the MLS, and more.

While there will be continuity, according to the publisher, the newly gained independence from FIFA will allow developers to “freely innovate, create, and evolve.”

“This new independent platform will bring fresh opportunity – to innovate, create and evolve. This is much more than just a change of symbol – as EA SPORTS, we’re committed to ensuring EA SPORTS FC is a symbol of change. We’re dedicated to meaningfully reinvesting in the sport, and we’re excited to work with a large and increasing number of partners to expand to new authentic experiences that bring joy, inclusivity and immersion to a global community of fans. I look forward to sharing more detail on these plans in the coming months.

Gotham Knights Shows Off New Gameplay Demo Starring Nightwing & Red Hood

1 year 11 months ago

Warner Bros. Games woke up early on May 10 to give us more footage for their upcoming title Gotham Knights.

Starring Nightwing and Red Hood, the new gameplay showcases 13 minutes of the heroes breaking down how they play as they look to take on the Court of Owls.

The trailer goes into great detail showing the difference in style of how both Nightwing and Red Hood operate gameplay-wise. Nightwing is much more acrobatic and will fly around the map with the help of his “Flying Trapeze” while Red Hood can use soul energy to aid him in combat and in traversal.

As the trailer progresses, Game Director Geoff Ellenor, provides extra context into different areas of the game such as the hub, The Belfry, where players can use the Batcomputer to choose challenges to take on or advance the story. Geoff also details the game’s upgrading system allowing players to customize their character their own way through the discovery of blueprints and crafting materials.

It is important to note that this game will have co-op and can be played either solo or with a friend. Gotham Knights is set to release Oct. 25, 2022 for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC as the last generation versions have been canned.

The PS4 & Xbox One Versions of Gotham Knights Have Been Cancelled

1 year 11 months ago

Today, alongside a new trailer, publisher WB Games announced that the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Gotham Knights have been canceled [IGN]. Instead, the upcoming superhero game will only release on PS5, Xbox Series S | X, and PC when it releases on Oct. 25 later this year.

Gotham Knights and the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, have both made headlines for delays, but now Gotham Knights will join the latter as being exclusively a current-gen game.

The two games share some similarities as they both were delayed, will be action-oriented games set in the Batman universe with co-op as an option, and features multiple playable characters with different skillsets and abilities. However, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will take place specifically within the Arkham universe and will be developed by Rocksteady Games, while Gotham Knights is set in the DC universe instead following the death of Batman and will be developed by WB Games Montreal, the team behind Arkham Origins.

In Gotham Knights you’ll be up against the secret society known as the Court of Owls, which is trying to control Gotham in the absence of Batman, where Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, sees Braniac invade earth to mind control the heroes of the Justice League.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, you can also get a peek at the new gameplay released alongside this announcement trailer below. Good news, bad news I guess?

Final Fantasy XIV Players Can Now Spend $7 to Drink Tea in the Game

1 year 11 months ago

Today Square Enix released a new emote as an “optional item” for Final Fantasy XIV, allowing your character to drink tea in the game.

If the term “optional item” sounds suspicious, that’s because it’s Square Enix’s way to define a microtransaction for real money available in the game’s official online store.

If you want the classy animation, which can be used both while standing and sitting, you’ll need to spend $7, €4.90, or £4.03 depending on where you live.

I wonder if someone at Square Enix thought that locking a tea-drinking animation behind an additional purchase (on top of the monthly fee that all players are required to pay) matches its stereotypical snob image… but who am I kidding.

Perhaps, we really shouldn’t be surprised that Final Fantasy XIV is now the most profitable Final Fantasy game in the whole history of the franchise.

You can see the emote in action in the video below and judge for yourself whether it’s worth pulling out your credit card.

Sony Expects to Ship 18 Million PS5 Units Between April 2022 and March 2023

1 year 11 months ago

Today, during Sony’s quarterly conference call for investors and analysts, chief financial officer Hiroki Totoki revealed the company’s prediction for PS5 shipments during the current fiscal year.

First of all, Totoki-san announced that Sony expected to ship 18 million units in the fiscal year 2022 (between April 2022 and March 2023) based on current visibility in parts procurement. This is significantly higher than the 11.5 Million PS5 units shipped between April 2021 and March 2022 and would mark a large increase in the availability of the console

This matches the fact that Sony expects a rather sizable increase in sales for the Games & Network business (34% or 929.2 billion yen) during the fiscal year.

If Sony is successful in matching its forecast, it would grow the grand total of PS5 shipped by March 2023 to 37.3 million units.

It’s worth mentioning that the previous forecast was 22.6 million to be shipped during the fiscal year 2022, but Sony lowered it due to the impact on the production of components of the lockdowns in China caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but Totoki-san mentioned that Sony feels “very comfortable” about being able to hit 18 million units in the fiscal year 2022 and hasn’t given up on doing better, despite the fact that he admitted that the company is still behind in managing to meet demand from potential purchasers.

We also hear from Totoki-san that Sony has “significantly increased investment in content development at existing studios.” This has caused revenue for first-party software to “increase at a high rate.”

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising Review – Setting the Stage for Better Things

1 year 11 months ago

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising on PC

As a huge fan of the classic Suikoden series, it has been way too long since a JRPG delivered the same kind of amazing experience made possible by Konami back in the day. The themes of politics, corruption, revolution, and friendship dovetailed beautifully in each story, and nothing could come close to the enjoyable team-building process and town-building elements.

You could imagine my excitement when a spiritual successor in the form of Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes was revealed, but before we even get there, the opportunity to play through the prelude/prologue in the form of Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising was too good to pass up.

Set up as a more fast-paced action affair, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising functions as a companion game that helps flesh out the world of Eiyuden as a whole. Without spoiling anything, players are transported to the continent of Allraan, arriving at a small mining town called New Neveah, and get drawn into a tale of treasure-seeking, mystery, and intrigue as an evil empire threatens the fragile peace of the world.

1 year 11 months ago

Today Sony announced its financial results for the full fiscal year 2022, which ended on March 31, including an update on PS5 and PS4 shipments.

2 million PS5 and 100,000 PS4 units were purchased by retailers worldwide during the latest quarter (between January and March), which means that the grand total for PS4 as of March 31 is at 117 million units shipped, while PS5 has shipped 19.3 million units in its lifetime. 11.5 Million PS5 units have been shipped during the past fiscal year (between April 2021 and March 2022), which is significantly lower compared to initial forecasts made in April 2021.

Echoes of Mana Roadmap Includes More Ways to Farm Lucre & Recover Stamina, Improved Healer AI, & New Story Chapters

1 year 11 months ago

It’s only been a couple of weeks since the launch of Echoes of Mana, and while the game certainly hasn’t been without its issues, the developers have been quick to respond to player feedback and implement changes accordingly. Wright Flyer Studios has just posted a list of changes and tweaks that they’ll be implementing in the game, along with an update on when we can expect the next story chapter and event.

Some of the highlights include an investigation into AI behavior, especially for characters with access to spells and healing capabilities. As it stands, healer characters are notoriously bad at actually healing the party, which can lead to a lot of quest wipes and frustration.

The developers will also be launching a campaign in the middle of May, which will include daily missions that allow players to farm AP and SP recovery items to help extend their playtime. The training quests will also soon see the inclusion of a new gear dungeon, as well as a Lucre-based dungeon to help with farming money.

In more exciting news, Echoes of Mana will also be getting yet another event drop in the middle of May, while chapter 6 of the story is scheduled for release at the end of the month. The Coffer Chaos and Trail to the Toughest events are still underway, so it’s a good time to try to knock those out before the new event drops.

Finally, the developers are also giving out 500 Spirit Crystals to all players as a token of appreciation. You can check out the full list of changes here.

War of the Visions’ Persona 5 Raid Drops this Week, Along With Increased NRG Gains, Item Drop Rates, & New Vision Cards

1 year 11 months ago

We’re still in the midst of the Persona 5 Royal collaboration event in War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, and this week is shaping up to be a pretty big one for PvE players. First off, we’ll finally get the raid drops for the Persona 5 event, where players will have a chance to encounter the two raid bosses: Shadow Kamoshida and Shadow Kaneshiro.

If you were lucky enough to pull Joker or Violet, those units will award you with bonus score points when fighting the bosses, as will Queen, who was given out as a free UR unit. Taking on the raid bosses will also reward you with the MR Vision Card, Those Who Defy Reality, which is shaping up to be a very strong card you’ll likely want to equip on Queen.

In addition to that, we’re also getting two new Vision Cards, Faint Torchlight and Oath of a New Dawn. The former will likely be a strong card for the new water unit Astrius, while the latter is meant to be Jayden’s main card, though it’ll work well for any character in a mono light team.

Finally, as part of the game’s 11 million downloads celebration, players will be rewarded with tons of NRG pots for logging in this week, along with other important ascension materials like Blossoms and Rainbow Fragments of Thoughts. Item drop rates will also be boosted for daily farming quests, so it’s a good time to stock up on resources if you’ve been blowing them all on the new units that have released in the past couple of weeks.

Final Fantasy XIV Director Naoki Yoshida Discusses Third-party Tools, Promises Enhanced UI, & Apologizes for 6.1 Issues

1 year 11 months ago

Today Final Fantasy XIV director and producer Naoki Yoshida released a long statement about the use of third-party tools in the game.

The statement mostly reiterates previously expressed positions, explicitly forbidding the use of any third-party tool.

Yet, Yoshida-san also promises to enhance the UI and HUD of the game in order to discourage the use of third-party modification. The development team is determined to make it happen even if it’ll take some time, even to benefit those playing on consoles.

On top of this, Yoshida-san clarified that rumors alleging the emulation of Final Fantasy XIV servers to gain an advantage during boss battles are false.

Lastly, he also apologized once more for the “many mistakes we made in 6.1, and the resulting disappointment in such a major patch.”

Yet, he pledged to “forge ahead so that FFXIV may continue to bring joy to as many players as possible.”

Below you can find the statement reproduced in its entirety, due to Yoshida-san’s direct request.

Hello, this is Naoki Yoshida, Producer and Director of FINAL FANTASY XIV.

With the release of Patch 6.11 and Dragonsong’s Reprise (Ultimate), we’ve heard concerns from players about the use of third-party tools and the potential for game server emulation. I’ve touched on these topics previously in LIVE Letters, but I would like to take this opportunity to formally address them.

You can check out the official press release, which also provides a brief history of the game, right down below.

Stardew Valley was created by game designer Eric Barone, under the alias of ConcernedApe. During the four years he spent solo-developing it, he taught himself the necessary skills to produce the game’s music, art, programming, and design. The game was released on PC on February 26, 2016, and within two months passed 1 million copies sold.

Within a few months the game expanded support to Mac and Linux, it released on Xbox One and Playstation 4 in December 2016, Nintendo Switch in late 2017, and iOS in October 2018. There have been five major post release updates – the first which added new farm maps, marriage options, and content, the second expanded supported languages to include German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Japanese and Simplified Chinese.

The third update (in late 2018) added Multiplayer functionality, with network code done by (then) Chucklefish programmer Tom Coxon. Starting with the 4th update, Eric formed a small team to help him update the game. The fourth and fifth updates added significant amounts of new content to the game.

As of March 2022, Stardew Valley has sold over 20 million copies across all platforms, with 13 million copies sold on PC alone.

EVE Online Universe To Expand With Two Upcoming Projects

1 year 11 months ago

At Fanfest 2022, developer CCP Games hosted an EVE keynote presentation. Within the presentation, they teased two upcoming projects both set in the universe of their MMO, EVE Online.

The first of these two projects is an online tactical first person shooter being developed by CCP Games London Studio. This game will be set in New Eden, the setting of EVE Online. The game is still in pre-production and still considered unannounced, so no big details will be known until the full reveal at a later date. All they have said on it is that “CCP is committed to offering an innovative multiplayer shooter with atmospheric visuals.”

The next project, currently named as Project M5, will be a free-to-play 4X strategy mobile game “being wholly developed by” CCP Shanghai. “In Project M5, players must work as a team to battle opponents for interstellar supremacy.”

That’s a not all. The press release further explains:

Project M5 takes key components from EVE Online, such as teamwork, fighting, territory control, politics, etc., and reinvents them to create a true mobile strategy experience set in New Eden.

For those perhaps unfamiliar with the term “4X strategy” it is something more akin to the Civilization series, where you build up your side over the course of the game. The 4X refers to the four objectives of explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate.

Japan Getting Gaming Sake “Gaming Rainbow” After Successful Crowdfunding Campaign

1 year 11 months ago

Various kinds of supposedly gaming-oriented energy drinks have flooded the market in the past few years, but “gaming sake” is a bit more peculiar.

And yet, it’s happening. Tokyo-based Japanese company SakeBottlers is going to release two different sake can bottles named “Gaming Rainbow” designed to be enjoyed while playing games.

We’ve had sake dedicated to gaming brands before, kike Neo Geo, Sega, or Yakuza, but this concept is a bit different.

Each bottle will include 180 ml of sake brewed by the Tsuchida Brewery in Gunma prefecture, offering a taste that is said to match gaming and described as a “big crouching punch” (which is basically a way to describe the Shoryuken in Street Fighter).

Each bottle will be decorated by an illustration designed by a popular artist, specifically Kinu Nishimura of Street Fighter fame and Mika Pikazo.

A set of four bottles will cost 7,500 yen (approximately $58) and additional merchandise is also available.

The initiative has already been met with a degree of success, as it was actually launched on the Japanese crowdfunding platform campfire.

The goal of 1 million yen (approximately $7682) was reached in 3 hours and doubled in the first 4 days.

Currently, the campaign is at 2,634,844 yen, which translates approximately into $20,240, with 24 days to go.

Apex Legends Saviors Patch Notes List Rampart Buffs & a Valkyrie Nerf

1 year 11 months ago

Apex Legends Season 13: Saviors goes live tomorrow, May 10, so Respawn has just released the full list of patch notes to accompany the new season. This patch mostly focuses on weapon adjustments, but there are also some notable Rampart buffs and a Valkyrie nerf that players probably saw coming.

Starting with the two characters mentioned, here’s what’s coming for Rampart:

  • Sheila spin-up time decreased from 1.75s to 1.25s
  • Amped Cover deploy health increased from 45 to 120
  • Amped Cover deploy time decreased from 4.25 to 3.6

As for Valkyrie, her single nerf prevents her from spinning while performing her Ultimate Ability, Skyward Dive, which will make her easier to hit while she’s taking off and getting ready to redeploy.

The other major Legend balance comes for Fortified characters, as the Fortified status will no longer reduce headshot damage.
