Final Fantasy XI Celebrates 20th Anniversary With Cute Plushies, Mug, & Music Boxes

1 year 11 months ago

Square Enix is preparing to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its venerable MMORPG Final Fantasy XI with new merchandise.

The game was originally released in Japan on May 16, 2002, for PS2, with the PC version coming in November of the same year. It was released in North America and Europe respectively in 2003 and 2004, but the server did not segregate Japanese and western players, creating a rather unique (and pretty awesome) community.

Among the items to be released for the celebration, which for now are available only at the Japanese Square Enix store we find plushies portraying Shantotto, a Goblin, and a Mandragora, priced respectively 5,060 yen (approximately $39), 6,380 yen (approximately $49) and 4,400 yen (approximately $34). They will all be released on November 27, 2022.

We also get a Mandragora cup priced at 3,300 yen (approximately $25), coming on October 8.

Last, but not least, a set of three music boxes is priced at 5,280 yen (approximately $40) and will also release on October 8.

They feature nostalgic music from the Ronfaure, Gustaberg, and Sarutabaruta areas, and you can see them in action in the video below.

Salt and Sacrifice Review – Back to Formula

1 year 11 months ago

Salt and Sacrifice on PC

Thinking back on it now, a large part of why I enjoyed Ska Studios’ Salt and Sanctuary so much was likely because my Soulsborne craze was at an all-time high. I’d just gotten 100% completion in Bloodborne, I beat Dark Souls III and 100%-ed that as well, and in came Salt and Sanctuary –the perfect game to continue feeding my Soulsborne addiction. It totally ruled, even if it wasn’t without its issues.

Fast forward six years later, and Ska Studios has released a follow-up titled Salt and Sacrifice. At this point, I’ve mellowed out a bit. I’ve played dozens of Souls-like games in the past six years and smashed my way through Elden Ring, though I didn’t quite have it in me to try to 100% that massive game. While Salt and Sacrifice does bring a few new things to the table, for better or for worse, it’s still largely the same 2D side-scrolling RPG experience that we’ve played all those years ago.

The moment you boot up the game, it should feel instantly familiar to anyone who’s played a Souls game in the past decade. You customize your character, choose your class and a starting gift, and off you go. Even the opening act follows the Souls formula down to a T: get acquainted with the controls, kill a few enemies, then proceed to get your ass handed to you by a tutorial boss that’s way too difficult at your current level.

Lost Ark’s First Legion Raid, Valtan, to Be Released Later this Month

1 year 11 months ago

In last month’s update, Smilegate had stated that while Lost Ark‘s first Legion Raid was still scheduled for a May release, things could still get moved around depending on player progress and the developers’ desire to allow players to progress at their own pace and not feel pressured to rush through content. It looks like the Legion Raid is still scheduled for this month, as the latest update post goes over plenty of new content coming in May.

Valtan is the first Legion Raid we’ll get to check out in Lost Ark, and players will need a minimum item level of 1415 to attempt the Normal mode, and 1445 to attempt Hard mode.

Valtan will introduce the first Legion Raid into the western version of Lost Ark. Legion Raids are difficult team-based activities that require teamwork to understand and execute the strategy necessary to counter each Legion Commander’s unique characteristics, abilities, and mechanics. As Legion Raids are challenging and take time, there are gates (or checkpoints) that will save player’s progress as they advance through the Raid.

Valtan is an eight-player Legion raid, has 2 gates, and introduces a swathe of new mechanics. Players will need to be item level 1415 to attempt normal difficulty, and 1445 for hard. The Valtan Legion Raid will also introduce a new rarity for gear – “Relic”. Relic gear can be crafted from materials earned in the raid. It provides more impactful armor and weapon bonuses, alongside bigger stat bonuses and more engraving nodes on accessories.

War of the Visions to Get Plenty of Quality-of-Life Updates Including Truststone Auto-Formations, Resource Drop Rates & More

1 year 11 months ago

In celebration of the game’s two-year anniversary, as well as its two and a half year mark, Square Enix and Gumi hosted a livestream over the weekend to go over some of the new content players can expect in War of the Visions in the coming months. While these announcements were only made for the Japanese client, it’s safe to assume that the global client will likely get them in about four months after the fact.

Some big announcements included the Final Fantasy XIII collaboration as well as the Final Fantasy Tactics event rerun, which fans have been clamoring for. However, there will also be several quality-of-life updates to look forward to as well.

A couple of big changes include the ability to skip Guild Quests (as long as you’ve managed to fully clear them at least once), as well as auto-formations for Truststones. Currently, the Truststone system is pretty clunky as players are required to manually set them each time they want to change up their party formation. The new update will allow players to filter them out by rarity and type, which should make it a lot easier for players who just want to stack green Truststones for the set bonuses.

1 year 11 months ago

Today marked the second day of the Pokemon Air Adventures event in Japan, with a live concert hosted in Okinawa.

To be precise, the live concert was hosted in the local town of Chatan and it featured the Okinawa-based band HY and Taiko drummers, on top of the inevitable and adorable team of dancing PIkachu.

Of course, among the music performed there was the Pokemon Air Adventure theme song “Sorairo” which translates into “Sky Color,” which was also featured during yesterday’s Pikachu parade in the same city.

The event also featured “Pokégenic,” a series of Pokemon-themed photo spots in Mihama American Village.

The concert was streamed live onYouTube, and you can watch it for yourself below.

If you’re not familiar with it, the Pokemon Air Adventures project was created to promote the return to flying and tourism in Japan after the slump caused by the pandemic. Genshin Impact Developer HoYoverse Teases New Game Zenless Zone Zero

1 year 11 months ago

Today developer HoYoverse (previously known as MiHoYo) has opened a teaser website for what appears to be a new game titled Zenless Zone Zero.

The new site indicates the date of the reveal as May 13 and plays an in-lore news broadcast.

If you’re unfamiliar with the name HoYoverse (or MiHoYo), it’s the Chinese development studio that works on the super-popular online action-RPG Genshin Impact.

The video talks of a “sub-Hollow” that has appeared in the city as public security have established a “level-2 control zone” and is currently evacuating the resident.

The “sub-Hollow” is likely the Black-Hole-like sphere in the middle of the image that appears to cover part of the city.

The description embedded in the site’s code reads as follows:

“Inside the mysterious TV, a record of unknown time awaits your discovery. Zenless Zone Zero officially
announces on 22/05/13″

Interestingly, the tags include “Beta” and “recruitment,” so it’s likely that we’ll get the announcement of a beta test on May 13.

At the moment, nothing else is officially known about the game, but the room depicted on the teaser site has a decidedly retro look, with an old CRT TV, plenty of VHS tapes, and a VHS recorder.

There is also a partly-visible movie poster of what appears to be a Mafia-inspired movie titled “Familia,” but it’s hard to say whether it’s actually a hint or simple decoration.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Fenix Airbus A320 May Release “in Days;” PMDG Boeing 737 Price & Release Details Announced

1 year 11 months ago

Today relevant news has been shared about two of the most anticipated aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

We start with the Airbus A320 by Fenix Simulations. The team has been fairly quiet for the last couple of months, but project lead Aamir Thacker confirmed on the developer’s Discord server that “provided the incoming MSFS patch doesn’t break too much,” he expects the aircraft to be released “in days, not months.”

Thacker also provided a very small hint about the possible pricing. To a user saying that they had put aside £140 for the aircraft, he responded by asking how many copies he was planning to buy for that sort of money. You can make of that what you will.

If you’re not familiar with it, Fenix’s Airbus A320 is a high-precision rendition of the CEO version of the popular airliner which will initially ship with the CFM56 engines and wingtip fences. Further options may be added down the line.

It has been in beta since February and Microsoft Flight Simulator fans have been eagerly waiting for it since its announcement back in July 2021.

Pokemon and Converse Team Up To Make a Line of Shoes in Japan

Pokemon products can get pretty creative in Japan, as we’ve seen a lot of lately. Now, Converse is teaming up with Pokemon (as reported by Soranews24) to release a limited edition line of shoes called the “All-Star Light” series for both adults and children in Japan, and we absolutely adore each of the designs.

The company has created unique designs for both adult-sized shoes and for child-sized shoes. On the adult-sized high-top shoes, a Pokemon is featured on the tongue; Pikachu, Eevee, Charizard, and Mewtwo are each represented. On the children-sized high-top shoes, there is a Pokemon design on the side near the heel; the choices here are between Pikachu, Eevee, Piplup, and Mew. There are also two sneaker-styled neon Pikachu designs with velcro straps in this line of shoes.

Microsoft Flight Simulator PMDG Boing 737 Finally Gets a Release Date

1 year 11 months ago

Today highly-praised third-party developer PMDG finally announced the release date of what’s arguably the most-anticipated aircraft add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator, the Boeing 737.

The aircraft will release on Monday, May 9, which is only a couple of days away.

If you’d like to know how much it’ll cost, that information is still pending, but we do know that each major version will be sold separately with the -700 being the first (including the passenger variant, the cargo variant, and the Boeing Business Jet variant), followed by the -600, the -800, and the -900 in this specific order, with approximately six weeks planned between releases.

Fo the moment, the release will be only for PC, but a launch on the official Microsoft Flight Simulator marketplace and for Xbox is planned. At the moment we don’t know when that’ll happen, as Microsoft needs to solve a relevant issue preventing some advanced aircraft (like PMDG’s own Douglas DC-6) from working on the console version of the simulator.

The announcement was made with the following video, in which PMDG CEO Robert Randazzo also speaks about what we can expect from the aircraft.

Final Fantasy XIV Crossover Announced for NieR: Re[in]carnation

It had a different overall feel from past MCU since it contained nearly no references to past films or TV shows. Rather, the ways that writer Jeremy Slater and Director Mohamed Diab fit Moon Knight into the MCU were more subtle than the lingo we’re accustomed to like ‘the blip’.

Heads up before you go any further: there will be many spoilers for the full season of Moon Knight down below. There’s really no way to get into the specifics of this series and its place in the MCU without mentioning some key points in the series. From here on, any part of any episode is fair game.

Final Fantasy XVI Trailer Should Be Coming Soon As Naoki Yoshida Provides Small Update

1 year 11 months ago

Today Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida made an appearance during a livestream dedicated to NieR Re[In]Carnation and provided a small update on the upcoming game.

Thanks to a translation by Twitter user Audrey verified and integrated by yours truly, we learn that development is making good progress toward completion and time is now being dedicated to debugging and polishing.

On top of that, while there has been a delay in the reveal due to various circumstances, a new trailer is ready and should be released soon.

At the end of last year, we heard that the next big announcement should come in the spring, but considering Yoshida-san’s words, it wouldn’t be out of the question to expect the reveal at the Summer Game Fest showcase in June. Of course, this is just my interpretation, so you should take it with the traditional grain of salt.

Deliver Us Mars Developers Show Gameplay & Discuss Story & More in New Dev Diary Video

1 year 11 months ago

Frontier Foundry and KeokeN Interactive released the first developer diary video about the recently-revealed Deliver Us The Moon sequel Deliver Us Mars.

The video features the game’s developers as they talk about elements like story and music, on top of showing and explaining what we can expect in terms of gameplay.

Interestingly, the heroine of the game is fully voiced, unlike the previous game, and KeokeN Interactive is aiming to deliver a “huge jump in narrative presentation” with motion-captured performances.

Another very interesting aspect is the launch sequel, which the developers describe as “the coolest” we’ve seen in games.

You can watch it below.

Deliver Us Mars is “coming soon” with no release window on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Cobra Kai Season 5 Returns to Netflix in September

1 year 11 months ago

If there’s one thing to be said about Cobra Kai, it’s that the filming and production schedule is always on point. We just finished up season 4 at the start of the year, and season 5 has already been announced for a Sept. 9 release date on Netflix.

The new season will pick up from where season 4 left off, as Silver has managed to put Kreese behind bars and proceeded to take over Cobra Kai, setting up dojos all over the Valley. You can check out the new trailer down below:

We get a glimpse of what our main characters will be up to, with LaRusso reuniting with Chozen as they plan to take down Silver, while Johnny goes on a roadtrip with Robby to Mexico to look for Miguel. And as always, there’s plenty of fun karate action to look forward to, from the looks of this trailer.

It’s unclear whether this will be the show’s final season, though personally, I lowkey hope this series never ends and we eventually get season 80 or something where Miguel becomes the new sensei of Cobra Kai. Season 5 is set to premiere on Netflix on Sept. 9.

Hitman 3 Switches up Post-launch Roadmap With New Map In July

1 year 11 months ago

For those that have been enjoying Hitman 3 since it launched in 2021, there has been plenty of post-launch DLC to keep players busy. That will continue this year, with even more content coming our way as laid out by IO Interactive’s roadmap. One of those happens to be the new Freelancer mode for Hitman 3, but the wait will now be longer as the mode is being delayed to the second half of the year.

“As we’ve said, we’re taking some extra time to tighten the mode up and improve several elements that we think will greatly improve the gameplay experience. Whilst we work on those improvements, we’re also preparing to dive deeper into the mode and share more of what you can expect,” said IO in a new blog post.

“With all of that in mind, we’re now aiming to release the Freelancer game mode to Hitman 3 in the second half of 2022. We think it will be worth the wait.”

In its place, IO Interactive is launching a new map in the month of July instead. Ambrose Island will have an intriguing narrative, taking place before the events of Hitman 3 and fills in a few gaps from the World of Assassination storyline. You can check out Ambrose Island in the screenshot below:

Path of Exile: Sentinel Expansion Rewards Players for Challenging Themselves

1 year 11 months ago

The action RPG that is Path of Exile is no stranger to expansions that can transform how players enjoy the game, such as Harvest, Echoes of the Atlas, and Siege of the Atlas. Maintaining that same spirit, the upcoming Sentinel expansion will do just the same, allowing players to up the ante in exchange for even more bonus loot.

The titular Sentinels will begin dropping as loot from slain monsters, and come in either red, blue, or yellow varieties. Like most things found in Path of Exile, there will be different modifiers and perks affixed on these Sentinels, and they can be deployed during combat to make things more hectic and rewarding.

Red Stalker Sentinels buffs any enemies within its visibility for a limited time, the blue Pandemonium Sentinels goes further by buffing every opponent on-screen and even beyond immediately, while the yellow Apex Sentinel will provide buffs to the most dangerous of rare, unique, or boss enemies. Each Sentinel can only be used once per area, so players will have to keep that in mind when looking to increase the challenge.
