We’re making great progress on our road to hitting Alpha and we’re happy to announce that the game will be launching in January next year. We can’t wait for players, both old and new, to see how we’ve elevated the original experience in the remake to be just as impactful for this generation.”

On top of the reveal, we also get plenty of footage showing how the developers are transforming the venerable game in the Frostbite engine. You can watch them all below.

Mario Strikers: Battle League will include characters of the Mario universe and familiar items of the franchise that are useful on the soccer battlefield. In this trailer, defensive and offensive strategies are presented, alongside the opportunity to participate in the online Strike Club.

This 5v5 gameplay experience can perhaps be seen as similar to Rocket League, but Mario Strikers: Battle League has its own set of loose rules and mechanics, making it an extremely unique soccer game.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim for PS4 Getting Update Adding New Features from Switch Version

Today Atlus revealed some news about Vanillaware’s popular game 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.

The game is getting a new edition for PS4 in Japan called “Welcome Value Pack” including a digital artbook and a set of avatars priced at 7,678 yen (approximately $60).

Perhaps the most relevant news is that on the same day (August 4, 2022), the PS4 version will receive a free update adding the new features included in the Nintendo Switch version, which includes English voice-overs and the new weapons.

At the moment, this announcement is confirmed only for Japan, but it would be surprising if the update did not affect the western version as well. Of course, the English voice-overs are already included, but the new weapons are definitely missing.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is currently available for PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

If you want to see more of the game, you can read our review and check out a message from director George Kamitani, in which expressed his pride in the game.

If you’re unfamiliar with 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, you can read an official description below:

“Vanillaware, the storytellers behind Odin Sphere and Dragon’s Crown, craft a sci-fi mystery epic spanning thirteen intertwining stories in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. With a Metacritic score of 86, 13 Sentinels has won the praise of critics all over the world.

Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters Review – Glory to the Emperor

Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters on PC

Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters, from developer Complex Games, is a triumphant entry into a genre already in the midst of a renaissance. And while it stands on the shoulders of giants, it is a must-play title in its own right for both tactical gamers and proponents of Warhammer 40k alike.

Set in the grim darkness of the far future, 40k games, unfortunately, have a tendency to be a little hit or miss (and I personally tend towards the fantasy iteration). They either do a disservice to the fantastic lore and universe of the tabletop setting or are let down by poor gameplay or low budget. Daemonhunters, I am glad to say, is an exception and easily the best game I’ve played in the setting, supplanting the excellent earlier entries in the Dawn of War series (which previously held that honor for me).

In Daemonhunters, you command an elite and secretive chapter of Space Marines (the Grey Knights), genetically engineered super-soldiers fanatically devoted to a single task: the eradication of Chaos, and Daemons in particular.

Let’s address the inevitable comparison to the XCOM franchise (of which I am a massive fan) first. It’s true that Daemonhunters is a tactical turn-based strategy game set in a sci-fi universe, like the XCOM series, and that the gameplay shares many similarities at first glance.

Latest Steam Deck Update Puts Power in Users’ Hands With Per-game Performance Profiles

For those that prefer gaming on the go, Valve’s Steam Deck has certainly become a viable and dependable option. Despite the initial stock issues, though, those that have gotten theirs can enjoy the likes of No Man’s Sky, Elden Ring, and even the Xbox Cloud Gaming service on it. And with Valve supporting the portable with updates, the future looks good, and it’s gotten even better with the latest Steam Deck client update.

As shared on the Steam Community page for the device, Valve has deployed several fixes that cover the general performance, online/offline modes, keyboard support, controller support, and remote play. Most importantly, the new update brings per-game performance profiles into the mix.

Players can now set game-specific performance settings instead of relying on the system default, so you will have full control of settings that can impact battery life or tweak performance to suit the games you are playing.

Konami Announces Financial Results, Solid Performance of Gaming Business; Edens Zero Game Is MIA

Today Konami announced its financial results for the fiscal year 2022, which ended on March 31, 2022.

Below you can check out the performance of the whole company, which saw both revenue and business profit increase year-on-year. Operating profit actually doubled year-on-year.

One of the factors indicated for this growth is the “solid” performance of the Digital Entertainment business, which includes gaming and the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game.

Speaking of Yu-Gi-Oh!, the new game Master Duel has passed 30 million downloads.

The press release also explains why the company has started to sell NFTs, allegedly “in an effort to preserve content that has been loved by customers as an art.”

The digital entertainment business improved (albeit relatively modestly) on all counts on the previous year’s already solid performance. The forecast for the current fiscal year (ending on March 31, 2023) shows the expectation for further improvement.

The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki II – Crimson Sin Reveals New Character on Famitsu

Today’s issue of Weekly Famitsu included new images of the upcoming JRPG The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki II – Crimson Sin by Nihon Falcom, on top of new details.

We meet Celis Ortesiae and Rion Balthazar, respectively 27 and 25 years old. They’re respectively the 4th and 11th Dominion knights of the Gralsritter.

Next is Altera, another hollow Core who looks quite similar to Mare (the Hollow Core that accompanies protagonist Van Arkride). Like Mare, she appears to have her own free will but she is more prideful and looks down on humans.

She resonates with a mysterious man wearing a coat who transforms into Grendel Zolga, which is larger than Van’s Grendel form.

Apex Legends Season 12 Set Records for Highest Engagement Since Launch

Electronic Arts recently revealed that Apex Legends Season 12: Defiance set records for the highest engagement since the game’s launch. This information was provided yesterday, when EA announced its preliminary results for the fourth quarter of the fiscal year, which refers to the period between January 1 and March 31, 2022.

This increase in engagement may be thanks, in part, to the celebration of the three-year anniversary and the release of the 9v9 Control LTM that changed up the gameplay in a significant way. Whatever the cause, this news bodes well for Season 13: Saviors, which just went live yesterday.

Additionally, during the report of EA’s results, CEO Andrew Wilson had this to say about whether or not there are any plans to change the flow of live services or content drops for Apex Legends:

“The Respawn team and the Apex team have demonstrated over the course of the last two plus years an extraordinary connection with their community. And they’ve been able to figure out exactly when and how to make drops, and things the community wants and needs. And so, we don’t have a hard and fast rule in terms of which drops will happen when.”

Looking toward the new update, we’ve got you covered if you’re looking to read up on all the changes in Season 13, Newcastle’s abilities, the patch notes, and more.

Valorant New Weapon Skin Bundle ‘Titanmail’ Has Epic Fantasy Vibes

Riot Games is back again with another weapon skin bundle for its popular tac-shooter, Valorant. This time around it’s called Titanmail. As you can see in the above image, the aesthetic is themed around high fantasy, with the melee weapon, in particular, looking like something out of Warhammer. The bundle will be available in stores from tomorrow.

Unfortunately for those who prefer premium skin lines with different tiers to upgrade, the Titanmail line doesn’t seem as though it’s likely to have one. That’s because the 1275 VP price suggests it’s similar to previous skin lines of this lower-tier, which don’t typically have tiers.

Update 05/11/2022: The melee weapon does, in fact, have 1 upgrade tier. Estimated bundle price is 5,100 VP.

So what do you get for your money, then? The Titanmail bundle contains the following weapons:

  • Classic
  • Bucky
  • Ares
  • Vandal
  • Mace (melee)

Below you can see Titanmail’s Vandal in action courtesy of ValorLeaks.

Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit on PC

While it may appear that the heyday of the good old point-and-click adventure is over, the genre is inching its way back into mainstream consciousness as independent titles continue to make their mark. The recent bombshell announcement of a Monkey Island sequel has certainly stoked the flames, and with the release of Thunderful Publishing and Tag of Joy’s Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit, it is a good time to be seeking puzzle-solving adventure.

Inspired by some of its illustrious forebears like Broken Sword, it is clear that the developers have an idea of what constitutes a solid foundation for an adventure game, and for good and for bad, Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit wears its inspirations on its sleeve.

Fortnite 20.30 Hotfix Adds Air Strike, Flint-Knock Pistol, Hunting Rifle & More

The Fortnite 20.30 hotfix released yesterday and reintroduced players to the Air Strike, Flint-Knock Pistol, Hunting Rifle and also added in some new Funding Stations after the Choppas were fully funded last week.

The Air Strike has finally been unvaulted, which ties in with the fact that using it is part of the week 8 challenges due to drop tomorrow, Thursday May 12. Throwing an Air Strike canister will send missiles raining down on the area the canister lands. These can be found in Chests, Supply Drops and on the ground around the Fortnite island.

On top of that, the Flint-Knock Pistol and Hunting Rifle have also been unvaulted and are now part of the arsenal of weapons available to players in the current season. The Flint-Knock can deal hefty damage to the target, while also sending the user hurtling back through the air with its recoil. The Hunting Rifle is a solid ranged weapon and is similar to the sniper without the scope.

Both the Flint-Knock Pistol and Hunting Rifle can now be found in Chests, Supply Drops and on the ground from now until May 17, 2022 at 8:59am ET.

Rounding out the contents of the hotfix, Funding Stations have now been added to the map and will accept donations of Gold to produce either Shield Bubbles or Balloons. Shield Bubbles create a temporary dome of shield invulnerable to explosive and projectiles (including the new Air Strike missiles), while Balloons can be used to take to the skies and escape from danger.

FIFA Will Partner With Other Developers to Create Soccer Games Following Split With EA

The biggest news when it comes to sports video games is that EA Sports will no longer be working with soccer governing body FIFA after this year’s iteration of the popular sports title. The thought of no more games after FIFA 23 might be scary to some, but that will continue with a rebrand to EA Sports FC after the end of the partnership. And for FIFA, this means that it will be actively looking to partner with other publishers and developers moving forward to create more soccer games.

In a statement addressing the split, FIFA President Gianni Infantino shared that “the only authentic, real game that has the FIFA name will be the best one available for gamers and football fans. The FIFA name is the only global, original title. FIFA 23, FIFA 24, FIFA 25 and FIFA 26, and so on – the constant is the FIFA name and it will remain forever and remain THE BEST.”

However, more interesting is the expansion of the FIFA branding to other genres, with “a number of new non-simulation games” already under production that will launch during the third quarter later this year.

“The interactive gaming and esports sector is on a path of unrivaled growth and diversification. FIFA’s strategy is to ensure we can make the most of all future options and ensure a wide range of products and opportunities for gamers, fans, member associations, and partners,” Infantino added.

This Pikachu Statue Can Wirelessly Charge Phones

If you’ve ever thought about how great it would be to have a Pokemon help out with real-world tasks, this fan-made Pikachu statue is probably the closest thing we’ll ever see.

A Pokemon fan on Twitter, Clay Yoshirin, not only sculpted a life-sized Pikachu statue from scratch, but he also installed a working wireless charging pad inside of it.

Clay Yoshirin’s Twitter and YouTube channels are dedicated to sculpting Pokemon statues by hand. It only makes sense that Pikachu, the electric-type mascot of the franchise, would be picked as the Pokemon to pair with a wireless charging device.

The Pikachu statue is incredibly adorable on its own; the mouse Pokemon is curled up in a position laying down with its front paw sticking out in a way that will hold a phone against its cheek. Of course, its left cheek is the spot where the wireless charging pad is.

When a phone is placed on that spot, it actually charges it, and it even looks like Pikachu is talking on the phone.

Just take a look at some photos from Clay Yoshirin’s Twitter account of his brilliant creation in action:

Gotham Knights Will Have Offline Single-Player and No Microtransactions

Following the latest gameplay reveal that highlighted the abilities of both Red Hood and Nightwing, you would think that Warner Bros. Games will stop at just that for information about Gotham Knights. However, new information shared via the Gotham Knights FAQ on the official website brings some welcomed news for players.

First of all, for those worried about needing a persistent online connection to enjoy the story solo, you can rest easy. The FAQ shares that “an internet connection is not required to play Gotham Knights solo,” but obviously, that will be different if you are looking at “two-player, online co-op with a friend.” Players are required to have either a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscription for online co-op, and there will not be any local co-op options, unfortunately.

Next, on the possibility of microtransactions, the FAQ also answers that question without any doubt. “No. Gotham Knights will not have in-game purchases or microtransactions,” WB Games stated. This will undoubtedly put some minds at ease, and keep the focus rightfully on the game.

In other news, Gotham Knights’ PS4 and Xbox versions have been cancelled, with the studio hoping to “provide players with the best possible gameplay experience” that is only possible on the newer generation of consoles.

Be sure to check out the gameplay trailer below if you have not gotten the chance to yet:
