NEO: The World Ends With You Coming in 2021 for PS4 and Switch

3 years 5 months ago
Square Enix has revealed a new game in The World Ends With You franchise, titled NEO: The World Ends With You, scheduled to launch in Summer 2021 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. NEO: The World Ends With You is a 3D action-RPG title, and its official description notes that players will be stepping into the shoes of 'Rindo' this time around, as they "unravel the mysteries of the deadly Reaper's Game" in a stylized Shibuya. You can check out a trailer for the game below, and an official website for the new game has also been launched. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/23/neo-the-world-ends-with-you-official-announcement-trailer"] This is the first true 3D game in the series following the 2007 original, which was ported to modern consoles in 2018. As well as exploring the sights of Shibuya, players will "fight monsters alongside their ally companions in fast-paced action battles, and complete missions as they seek to change the fate they’ve been handed." The trailer introduces a number of new characters including a high-school friend of Rindo's called Fret and a college student peer called Nagi. There's also a mysterious hooded fellow, who looks ripped right out of Kingdom Hearts, called Minamimoto. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=neo-the-world-ends-with-you-screenshots&captions=true"] The official anime adaptation of The World Ends With You recently received a release window of April 2021, so it's a good time to be a TWEWY fan! Former Dragon Age Director Announces New Studio

3 years 5 months ago
Mike Laidlaw, the former creative director of Dragon Age, has established a new development studio alongside other industry veterans. Called Yellow Brick Games, the independent studio is located in Quebec City and aims to create "original, new games of high quality". [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2014/03/06/dragon-age-inquisition-discover-the-dragon-age"] Laidlaw is joined by Thomas Giroux, Jeff Skalski, and Frédéric St-Laurent B., meaning the studio is comprised of EA, BioWare, and Ubisoft veterans, with a body of work covering Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Watch Dogs, and Assassin's Creed. Laidlaw takes on the role of Chief Creative Officer, while Skalski acts as Chief Operating Officer, and Giroux as Chief Executive Officer. Frédéric St-Laurent B., meanwhile, will take on the position of Game Director for the studio's first project. St-Laurent B. was previously Lead Game Designer for Assassin's Creed: Syndicate at Ubisoft Quebec. The studio currently numbers 15 staff, but is expected to grow in the coming months and years. The goal is to create an original game that will "leverage the capabilities of the next generation gaming platforms", done so with a "craftsmanship approach". [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/04/09/the-top-10-modern-rpgs-of-all-time"] “The market for independently produced games is growing rapidly and the technology is keeping pace,” said Laidlaw in a press release announcing the studio. “Small, diverse teams can now create high-quality experiences. For veterans of big-studio productions like myself and much of our team, this is the perfect time to get back to a small, agile, and highly motivated group.

Watch Dogs: Legion Xbox Series X Autosave Bug to Be Fixed in Early December

3 years 5 months ago
Watch Dogs: Legion has a widespread issue in which autosaving simply stops working on Xbox Series X and S – an issue Ubisoft is now aware of, and will release a fix for in early December. It's not clear what causes the bug to kick in, but players report that hours of progress can be lost after autosave seemingly either stops working, or ignores recent checkpoints. It's a particualrly serious issue given that Legion doesn't allow manual saving, and console versions only have a single autosave slot. The problem seems only to affect the Series X and S versions of the game, with multiple players reporting the issue on the Ubisoft forums, Twitter, and in emails to IGN. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/28/watch-dogs-legion-review"] I myself have experienced the issue – after playing the entirety of Legion on Xbox One without a saving issue, I switched to Series X towards its final stages. Autosave stopped working from the beginning of the final campaign mission and around an hour into the post-game. When I reloaded, my character was about to begin the final mission again, meaning about an hour and half's progress was lost. Without a clear cause for the issue, there's no notable workaround, meaning playing the game on Series X or S currently comes with an inherent risk of losing progress. Ubisoft has now begun informing players that it's aware of the issue, and that a fix will arrive in "early December"

The World Ends With You Anime Adaptation Gets April Release Window

3 years 5 months ago
Square Enix has revealed that the anime adaptation of The World Ends With You is coming in April 2021. You can watch a new trailer for the anticipated adaptation below, in which protagonist Neku Sakuraba saunters around Shibuya and sets a frog on fire, among other things. The final screen for The World Ends With You: The Animation's latest trailer notes a release window of April 2021, so fans won't have to wait too long for it either. It looks as if it's keeping to the thick-outlined style of the cult classic 2007 Nintendo DS title, and the tale of the anime will be based on the game's narrative, where the gang must survive the Reapers' twisted trials. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/23/the-world-ends-with-you-the-animation-official-trailer-2-2021"] The anime adaptation was revealed back in June of 2020, during this year's Anime Expo Lite. Funimation then dropped the first teaser trailer for the project in July, which gave us a better look at the world in motion. TWEWY and Final Fantasy character designer Tetsuya Nomura has been brought on board to work on the project as a creative producer. The World Ends With You: Final Remix landed on Nintendo Switch back in October of 2018. We reviewed the port of the game at the time, scoring it a 7.8 and noting it is "as good as ever in handheld mode." [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jordan Oloman is a freelance writer for IGN. Cyberpunk 2077 Appears to Be in the Wild, So Beware of Spoilers

3 years 5 months ago
Update 11/23/2020: The first known instance of a leaked, final version of Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay has appeared. Per users on ResetEra, streamers broadcast around 20 minutes of the game's Nomad life path, from the beginning of the PS4 version of the game (which has now been taken down in multiple locations). It's confirmation that unpatched copies of the final game are beginning to make their way into players' hands. While we broadly know the beats of the beginning of the game due to various official previews, this stream is a sign that we may begin to see more meaningful spoilers emerge ahead of the game's launch on December 10. After The Last of Us Part 2 leaked, spoilers were frequently sent in livestream chats, comments sections, and on Twitter as unsolicited replies. If you don't want the game spoiled, it's likely worth beginning to vet where you're looking when checking Cyberpunk-related content. [poilib element="accentDivider"] It appears that physical copies of Cyberpunk 2077 have appeared in the wild, so beware of spoilers and leaks on the internet. Redditor Justgonnasendit shared an image of Cyberpunk 2077's physical game case, and claims to have held it in his hands at his Amazon job.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's Nuketown '84 Easter Egg Discovered

3 years 5 months ago
Even though Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's Nuketown '84 map has yet to be released, its Easter egg has already been discovered. As reported by Eurogamer, Redditor PimpOutMyPC claims to have glitched in to Nuketown '84 ahead of its November 24 release date and has discovered how to activate an Easter egg. Potential spoilers ahead for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's Nuketown '84 map. To activate this Easter egg, it appears players must shoot the heads off all the mannequins around the map. Doing so adds a "blue '80s-themed digital filter to the graphics" and brings in a new synthwave track and a purple sky. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 had Easter eggs that were activated in a similar fashion, and the trend appears to continue in Black Ops Cold War.

Spider-Man Remastered PS4-PS5 Save Transfer Is Now Available

3 years 5 months ago
Those who played Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4 are now able to transfer over their save files to Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered on PS5. Insomniac Games' update to Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4 allows this save transfer and also bring over three new suits from Spider-Man Remastered to the original version. Spider-Man Remastered was also updated to allow for save transfers and includes various fixes for the game for issues such as the rest mode crash. Screenshot_2020-11-22 Insomniac Games on Twitter The process is pretty simple, but it does require that you still own the PS4 version of Marvel's Spider-Man. @DKShadow on Twitter gave a guide on how to make it work:
  1. Update the game on PS4/PS4 to latest versions.
  2. In Spider-Man on PS4, hit R1 in the main menu to upload your save data.
  3. In Spider-Man Remastered on PS5, hit R1 in the main menu to download the save data.
As an added bonus, trophies will carry over. So, if you've unlocked Marvel's Spider-Man' Platinum Trophy, it will pop in Spider-Man Remastered when the save is successfully transferred. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/14/marvels-spider-man-remastered-ps5-review"] Insomniac's community director James Stevenson took to Twitter to clarify the process and help those with questions.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales Has No Chrysler Building Due to Copyright Issues

3 years 5 months ago
If you have been swinging around New York City in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, you may have noticed that the iconic Chrysler Building has been replaced by a generic skyscraper. Even though the Chrysler Building has appeared in 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man and other Marvel media, copyright issues prevented its inclusion in Insomniac's latest adventure. As reported by Game Informer, the Chrysler Building went under new ownership in 2019 and no agreement was made before the launch of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="800"] Image via Game Informer[/caption] Since 2008, the Abu Dhabi Investment Council, which is an investment arm of the Abu Dhabi government, owned 90% of the building while the New York-based real estate investment company Tishman Speyer Properties owned 10% and managed the building. In January 2019, the Chrysler Building was put up for sale and it was co-purchased by the Austrian company SIGNA Group and New York real estate development company RGR Holding LLC. for $150 million.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales Names a Street After Chadwick Boseman

3 years 5 months ago
Update (11/21/20) - Reddit user RollieDell has discovered that a street in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales was named after the late Chadwick Boseman. Screenshot_2020-11-21 r marvelstudios - I found another tribute to Chadwick Boseman is Spider-Man Miles Morales 42nd Street[...] Chadwick Way has replaced 42nd Street in Miles Morales for PS5, and can be found between 1st and 3rd Avenue. The number 42 has a lot of meaning for both Boseman, as he starred as Jackie Robinson in the film 42. Furthermore, the number 42 appears in both the original Miles Morales comic and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as an homage to Robinson. Original story follows. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Spider-Man: Miles Morales includes tributes to two Marvel titans - Chadwick Boseman and Stan Lee - with a particularly heartfelt message for the king of Wakanda. In the newest Marvel's Spider-Man game, players will find all kinds of easter eggs and references to the greater Marvel universe. But one tribute isn't hidden at all but is one that certainly pulls at the heartstrings.

Small Spoilers for Spider-Man: Miles Morales Credits Below.

After beating Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a message memorializing Chadwick Boseman, who played the Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, plays during the credits. It reads:
"In loving memory of a noble king, Chadwick Boseman.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Reviews

3 years 5 months ago
[Editor's Note: To best serve the different communities of Call of Duty, we've split our review into three components: the Single-Player Campaign, the competitive Multiplayer, and Zombies. Below you'll find the final Verdicts from each review that will give you an overview of the full Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War package, along with links to the full in-depth reviews of each.]

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Single-Player Campaign Review

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/13/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-campaign-review"] Verdict: Call of Duty’s moment-to-moment gameplay is still primarily a well-dressed shooting gallery, but Black Ops Cold War succeeds in making its quiet time a defining part of its experience rather than just a deep breath between the loud and explode-y sequences. Its story is less successful at leaving a Black Ops 1-level mark, but the importance placed on finding and deciphering evidence as well as the multiple endings give good reason to stick with it beyond its typical six-ish-hour runtime. - Ryan McCaffrey, November 12, 2020 Score: 7 [poilib element="accentDivider"]

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer Review

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/17/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-multiplayer-review"] Verdict: There’s a very thin line between a nostalgic experience and an archaic one, and it’s a line that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's Multiplayer has not quite managed to balance on. It feels like an old-school shooter at times which sometimes feels great but all too rarely, with simple map designs and underwhelming additions to playlists failing to hit the mark.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Mandalorian: Season 2, Episode 4! [poilib element="accentDivider"] The Mandalorian: Chapter 12 proved to be a surprisingly eventful episode on multiple fronts, not least of which being the first in-canon appearance of a major Star Wars video game villain. The Dark Trooper looks to now be an official part of Disney's Star Wars timeline, and that means Mando and friends have a very dangerous new enemy to contend with. If you weren't a PC Gamer back in the mid-'90s, you may not recognize these ominous armored troopers. Read on for a full breakdown of what the Dark Trooper is and how their live-action debut will impact the plot of The Mandalorian. The Dark Trooper in Star Wars: Dark Forces

The Dark Trooper was first introduced to the franchise in the 1994 PC game Star Wars: Dark Forces. Dark Forces revolves around Kyle Katarn, an ex-Stormtrooper and mercenary who is hired by Mon Mothma to steal the plans for the first Death Star (obviously, the game is no longer part of the official canon). That initial mission only forms the basis of the game's opening level, however.

The Last of Us Gets Series Order from HBO

3 years 5 months ago
HBO has officially ordered a series based on The Last of Us video game franchise, HBO executive vice president of programming Francesca Ori announced Friday. Though a series based on The Last of Us had been in discussion for some time now, Friday's announcement reconfirms HBO's intent on the show and attaches a few key names to the project. Writing the series are The Last of Us creative director Neil Druckmann and Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin. Druckmann will also be executive producing the series alongside Cheryl Strauss (Chernobyl and Game of Thrones) as well as Naughty Dog president Evan Wells and PlayStation Productions Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan. HBO is partnering with Sony Pictures Television on the series, with PlayStation Productions, Word Games, and Naughty Dog all co-producing. “Craig and Neil are visionaries in a league of their own,” said Orsi. “With them at the helm alongside the incomparable Carolyn Strauss, this series is sure to resonate with both die-hard fans of ‘The Last of Us’ games and newcomers to this genre-defining saga. We’re delighted to partner with Naughty Dog, Word Games, Sony and PlayStation to adapt this epic, powerfully immersive story.” The Last of Us evidently won't be the only video game property that Sony hopes to convert into a TV production. “We’re thrilled to be working with HBO and this fantastic creative team to bring ‘The Last of Us’ series to life,” said Jeff Frost, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios and Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions. “PlayStation’s innovative storytelling and ingenuity is a natural complement to SPT’s creative focus. Our collaboration is a great example of our ‘One Sony’ philosophy at work.

Announced with a teaser trailer (below), the Cayo Perico Heist tasks players with infiltrating "one of the most secure private islands in the entire world". Nintendo Isn't Expecting Hyrule Warriors to Become Its Own Series After Age of Calamity

3 years 5 months ago
Despite being the second game of its kind, Nintendo isn't expecting Hyrule Warriors to become its own spin-off series after Age of Calamity – but we could see another installment if the right idea comes along. IGN got the chance to speak to Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity producer Yosuke Hayashi, and I asked whether – after two Hyrule Warriors installments – they were considering making this its own standalone series, alongside mainline Zelda games. "I do think circumstances could align like this again," explained Eiji Aonuma, "but I don't think we're expecting this to become a series. We'd make that decision based on its creative merits, just like we did this time." "I think it depends on whether we get an idea that'll make all the fans happy!", added Hayashi. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/hyrule-warriors-age-of-calamity-review"] I asked if, on a wider level, Nintendo was now looking to put together more spin-offs between its mainline Zelda games. Again, Aonuma explained that it was taking an 'idea-first' approach:  "Echoing my answer to the question above, we're always looking for valuable creative projects, but those only come about when several different conditions align. So, I think it's hard for us to have conscious control over the frequency." So if this game came about through a good idea popping up, who had that original idea? "It was Fujibayashi-san, the director of [Breath of the Wild], who initially came up with the concept," Aonuma tells me. "Fujibayashi-san thought that telling the untold story of the Great Calamity from BotW would only be possible with a system like Warriors where players could come together to fight against vast armies, so he put together a project proposal and sent it to me.

Rocket League Developer Says 120 FPS Is a 'Minor Patch' on Xbox Series, But a 'Full Native Port' on PS5

3 years 5 months ago
Rocket League developer Psyonix has said that while adding 120 FPS to the Xbox Series version of the game is a "minor patch," it would require a "full native port" on PS5. Speaking to Eurogamer, a spokesperson for the developer noted that this was due to the way backwards compatibility works on Sony's next-gen console. "Enabling 120hz on Xbox Series X|S is a minor patch, but enabling it on PS5 requires a full native port due to how backwards compatibility is implemented on the console, and unfortunately wasn't possible due to our focus elsewhere." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/16/how-to-switch-from-ps4-version-games-to-ps5"] Psyonix has been focusing on the game's "free to play transition" and updating the game's Tournament system instead. It paints a troublesome picture for backwards-compatibile PS4 games receiving 120 FPS updates on the PS5, going forward. A similar Eurogamer report from last week noted that Infinity Ward had added 120 FPS support to Call of Duty: Warzone on the Xbox Series X, but not the PS5, which suggests that this stumbling block is more significant than perhaps expected. Hopefully, in the future, Sony could commit resources to create an easier solution for developers who want to update their last-generation games to run at 120 FPS on PS5. To check out the differences between the console, make sure to check out our PS5 vs. Xbox Series comparison chart.
