Trigun Stampede Vash figure

Kotobukiya announced a new Trigun Stampede figure of Vash the stampede. The figure stands at 8.66 inches, which is about 22 cm tall. It costs $200/20,000円, and its expected release date is sometime between January and March 2024. Pre-orders for the new Trigun Stampede statue are now open outside of Japan from the Sideshow Toys online store.

The base of the figure resembles a patch of desert and dunes. It also allows for Vash’s sunglasses to be taken off. The statue includes a miniature representation of Jeneora Rock, one of the cities in the planet of Noman’s Land, as well as three moons standing behind Vash. When looked at from the front, the statue creates the illusion of distance between Vash and the city and the three moons.

Hatsune Miku Digital Stars 2022 figure header

Pre-orders are open for a Hatsune Miku Digital Stars 2022 Version scale figure. It will come out sometime in December 2023 in Japan. You can purchase it for 59,400 JPY, which is around $428.15. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

This Miku is based on the main visual for the Hatsune Miku Digital Stars 2022 event. Illustrator HxxG drew and designed her. As a 1/7 scale figure, it stands at approximately 470 millimeters, and that number includes the stand that she’s on. The Digital Stars 2022 Miku figure is striking a dynamic pose while holding a stand mic and standing on top of what looks like a number of speakers. Her hair and the tattered flag from her mic add a lot of movement to the figure since they look like they’re billowing in the wind.

Anime MMO Blue Protocol's western release has been pushed into 2024

Blue Protocol is an anime MMO with some gorgeous environment art. It looks like the kind of game I'd ignore right up until the moment when I wake up and discover it's the most popular game in the world. That day will have to wait a while longer, though. Developer Bandai Namco and publisher Amazon Games have announced that its western release has been delayed until 2024.

Netflix's password sharing clampdown reaches the UK

1 year 1 month ago

UPDATE 24/5/23: Netflix has contacted Eurogamer to clarify certain parts of the original article (now struck through) are "no longer applicable".

The streaming service initially posted new account sharing rules to its Help Centre in February, saying it would soon require all devices to connect to a home Wi-Fi network every 31 days to continue using an account. However, amid a significant backlash, it deleted those changes, claiming they were "only applicable to Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru". Its wording was vague, however, and it remained unclear if those plans had been permanently shelved, with the company only acknowledging there had "been a lot of confusion about sharing Netflix."

Now that its planned account sharing crackdown has reached the UK, the streaming service has updated its rules to make reference to a "Netflix Household" (formerly "primarily location"), defined as a "collection of the devices connected to the internet at the main place you watch Netflix." It says anyone outside this household will need to sign up for their own account or be added to an existing account for an additional £4.99 a month.

Ooku: The Inner Chamber Anime on Netflix

Netflix announced the official release date for the anime adaptation of Ooku: The Inner Chambers will be June 29, 2023. This anime will present an alternative version of feudal Japan with gender reversal. Women take the leading roles in politics and society. A trailer teasing the anime's plot, along with a piece of key art, was also revealed.

Check out the trailer for Ooku: The Inner Chambers below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL2yLQtxWrw&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=NetflixAnime

Ooku: The Inner Chambers presents an alternate retelling of the Tokugawa shogunate of Japan. Men are scarce due to an unknown disease. Moreover, the story focuses on the matriarchal society that ruled throughout five shogun generations. Studio DEEN is in charge of this anime adaptation, with Noriyuki Abe directing it.

This isn’t the first time the Ooku manga has been adapted. Back in 2010, a live-action movie was released covering the first few arcs. Two other television drama series were also released in 2012 and 2022, respectively. As for Netflix, this is the first new anime series joining the catalog after the launch of Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune in May 2023, along with the last season of Ultraman.

Ooku: The Inner Chambers anime will be available to stream worldwide on Netflix starting June 29, 2023. Viz Media handled the localization of the manga.

Evangelion 2.0 Asuka Shikinami Langley Test Type Plugsuit Figure Includes a Diorama

Evangelion 2.0 Asuka Shikinami Langley Test Type Plugsuit Figure Includes a Diorama

Good Smile Company announced it is taking a limited number of pre-orders of the Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance Asuka Shikinami Langley test type plugsuit figure. It is made by Animester and costs ¥30,250/$216.99. In addition to Asuka, people also get a diorama setpiece from when she was wearing that plugsuit in Rebuild of Evangelion. She'll ship out in June 2024 in Japan. The North American debut will follow sometime in Q3 2024.

This version of Asuka is a static, 1/7th scale figure. Alone, she stands at 230mm/9 inches tall. Good Smile Company didn’t offer an estimate as to her size when displayed inside of the diorama. However, she can be displayed with or without the enclosure, which makes it look like she just suited up for the Evangelion Unit-03 test. Her doll from the film is on the shelf in front of the mirror. As a note, in the movie the room she was in had actual walls, but the diorama here omits them so people can more clearly see the character.

Here's a closer look at the Asuka Shikinami Langley test type plugsuit figure based on Evangelion 2.0.

Metal Gear Solid 3 remake reportedly real and getting a multi-platform release

1 year 1 month ago

The long-rumoured Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is real and getting a multi-platform release on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC according to a new report by Windows Central.

A Metal Gear Solid 3 remake was first rumoured in October 2021, when it was claimed Virtuos, a studio primarily known for its porting work, had been handed the development reins by Konami. The project has popped up intermittently since then, albeit never officially confirmed, and now Windows Central's Jez Corden says he's been able to "hard-confirm" it's real.

Corden also lends credence to a recent report by Insider Gaming, which claimed the remake would be a multi-platform release, contrary to speculation Sony might have snaffled it up as a PlayStation exclusive. According to Corden, the remake will indeed be coming to Xbox and PC alongside PlayStation, "despite a marketing deal".

The Entirety of Lord of the Rings: Gollum Leaks on YouTube Ahead of Release

1 year 1 month ago

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum launches this Thursday, May 25, but the entire game has been leaked online ahead of release.

We won't share or link to any spoilers here, but someone posted a video walkthrough of the whole game on YouTube. The video has since been taken down, but it stayed online for several hours before it was removed. There are threads on both Reddit and resetera discussing the leaked footage. IGN has reached out to developer Daedalic Entertainment for comment.

On Thursday, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will launch on PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A Nintendo Switch version is scheduled for sometime later this year.

Players will sneak around Middle-earth while making choices to align with either the darker Gollum or gentler Sméagol. The gameplay will also feature elements of stealth and parkour.

It's been a long road to release for Gollum, as the game was originally scheduled to come out in 2021. After a pile of delays, we learned of its current release date earlier this year.

We went hands-on with the game back in March, and we said, "The Lord of the Rings: Gollum does at least make a good first impression, outlining a solid case for piloting one of the strangest and yet most important characters in the lore."

Tintin Reporter: Cigars of the Pharaoh is an immersive dive into Hergé's world

1 year 1 month ago

When meeting a fellow Tintin fan, the first question you're likely to ask is simply: 'which one is your favourite?' Over the many years Hergé worked on Tintin, the cartoon went through several phases, ranging from the early comics where Hergé was still developing his style, to the later stories which had clearer plotlines and an established cast of supporting characters. My personal favourite? For me, it's The Secret of the Unicorn - a story with an intriguing mystery at its centre, and plenty of Captain Haddock action. It's perhaps unsurprising, then, that this was the comic selected for Steven Spielberg's 2011 film adaptation.

Given the vast catalogue of Tintin comics to choose from, some might ask why the upcoming Tintin video game adaptation is based on Cigars of the Pharaoh. As the fourth volume of Tintin published by Hergé, the comic is a relatively early one, and lacks key characters such as Captain Haddock and Professor Calculus. But for Spanish game developer Pendulo Studios and French publisher Microids, selecting the comic was a matter of considering what sort of gameplay opportunities the story could offer, while also leaving room for a potential sequel.

"As Microids and Pendulo started to work on a new Tintin IP, we wanted to start at the beginning," Microids brand manager Charles Leveugle tells me at a demo event. "But a complete beginning, not just the Soviets or America or Congo, a complete beginning with a complete adventure, with a variety of gameplay [styles], various countries to visit, various investigations to lead. In the first three albums Tintin is only living in one country… in Cigars of the Pharaoh he traverses three countries, he drives a plane, he drives a car, he meets Thompson and Thomson, he meets Rastapopoulos…

Miasma Chronicles review: this tactically sound turn-based post-apocalypse is short on fresh ideas

1 year 1 month ago

Swedish developers The Bearded Ladies certainly have a type. If you’ve played the memorably odd Mutant Year Zero or the largely forgettable Corruption 2029, you’ll know it by now – a blend of real-time stealth and turn-based tactics, where you quietly pick off stragglers from enemy squads before confronting the rest in a team scrap. Now here’s Miasma Chronicles, the Ladies’ third effort, and let’s just say they’re clearly happy to stick with what they know.

While the patterns of play are to a great extent the same, though, Miasma Chronicles is a more ambitious project. Addressing criticisms that those earlier games weren’t substantial enough, it’s a broader, denser beast, in which you could easily spend twice as long – 30 hours or so – seeing all the sights and shooting the nasties that populate them. That means there’s a lot more space available for this game to coax out varied strategies and introduce more elements, which is great. But it also means the weaker elements of the formula are left more exposed, which isn’t.

PlayStation VR2 Has Strong Launch Despite Reports, Outselling Original PSVR

1 year 1 month ago

The PlayStation VR2 is off to a stronger start than previous reports indicated as Sony has revealed the virtual reality headset had a better launch than the original PSVR.

Shared in a business presentation, Sony revealed that the PSVR 2's first six weeks outperformed the original PSVR's first six weeks, coming in at just below 600,000 units sold. Specific numbers are unclear on the provided graph (below), but the original PSVR came in closer to 500,000.

Sony also described the period as a "strong PlayStation VR2 launch", contradicting a report in March that said the headset was only expected to sell 270,000 units in roughly the same six week period. An industry analyst had said Sony would need to cut the PSVR 2's price to avoid a "complete disaster".

The headset launched on February 22 with 42 games, including headlining title Horizon: Call of the Mountain and a variety of virtual reality updates for critically acclaimed games like Gran Turismo 7 and Resident Evil Village.

Black Girl Gamers' Jay-Ann Lopez on the importance of Black representation in fantasy

1 year 1 month ago

Ahead of the release of Square Enix's Forspoken, there were concerns about representation. Frey, the game's Black female protagonist, was described in a 2021 preview session as having a "hip-hoppy kind of walk", as well as being "an orphan" and "very angry", raising eyebrows at the perpetuation of negative Black stereotypes.

Before the game's release earlier this year, paid consultants were asked to play a pre-release build of the game, including a representative from Black Girl Gamers, a 10,000-stong community organisation with lived experience of Black cultures and heritage that consults on various elements of the games industry, and whose founder Jay-Ann Lopez I caught up with to find out more.

"Due to the nature of our contract, we cannot disclose specific suggestions, however, we were pleased to see that some of our input was reflected in the final version of the game," Lopez wrote in a Twitter thread after Forspoken released. However, some suggestions from the group had not been included, Lopez said, including those regarding "colourism and texturism" (a preference for Eurocentric standards of hair: smoother, looser hairstyles over tighter curls, braids, or afros).

AMD Announces Radeon RX 7600 Desktop Graphics Card

After launching a new generation of desktop graphics cards last December, AMD has officially announced the third GPU in the Radeon RX 7000 line — the RX 7600, succeeding the Radeon RX 6600.

The Radeon RX 7600 features 8GB of GDDR6 memory, a board power of 165 watts, and 32 unified RDNA 3 compute units. AMD's latest GPU is designed for players that prefer gaming at 1080p resolution. AMD claims the Radeon RX 7600 touts that the RX 7600 performs 34 percent better on average than Nvidia's RTX 3060 8GB model and 17 percent better than the RTX 3060 12GB model for 60+ FPS and 1080p resolution.

Here's a highlight of the specs:

  • AMD RDNA 3 Architecture
  • 8GB of GDDR6 Memory
  • 2.25GHz Game Clock
  • Up to 2.66GHz Boost Clock
  • 32 Compute Units & Ray Accelerators
  • 165 Watts of Total Board Power
  • Support for AV1 HW. Encoding

The RX 7600 is designed to be a budget-friendly 1080p GPU and is a good competitor to Nvidia's recently-released RTX 4060 Ti. While most GPUs today are typically aimed at 1440p or 4K gaming, AMD explains how 1080p is still relevant to the market, citing Steam's April 2023 Hardware and Software survey, which shows that 65 percent of gamers are still playing games at this resolution.

The Radeon RX 7600 will launch on May 25 for a starting price of $299.

Sony Expects PS5 Sales to Begin Outpacing PS4 by End of 2023

Sony expects PlayStation 5 sales to begin outpacing the PS4 by the end of 2023 as it gets back on track following component shortages that plagued hardware production last year.

Shared in a business presentation, Sony compared the PS5's sales with the PS4's at this stage in its life cycle and said it expects the PS5 to catch up with the PS4 by August 2023 and begin to exceed its sales by December.

The PS5 outsold its predecessor in its first year on the market but sales declined due to the component shortage that was only declared over in January 2023. Sony has since ramped up the number of PS5 consoles it's shipping considerably, more than doubling 2022's numbers in most months this year so far to meet what it's calling "unprecedented demand".

The presentation also revealed that the PS5 is projected to begin outpacing the PS4 in all of Sony's key metrics by February 2024. These include console user spend, full game unit sales, gameplay hours, monthly active users, and monthly active consoles.

It joins the PlayStation VR2 as well performing Sony hardware, as the company revealed that it's also outpacing its predecessor having sold close to 600,000 units in its first six weeks on the market.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti review: the big middle of graphics cards

I’m sure you’re all bored of reading about how about how expensive RTX 40 series graphics cards are; I’m certainly bored of writing about it. And even though it’s only moderately faster than the RTX 3060 Ti in most games, its efficiency improvements and DLSS 3 support ensure the RTX 4060 Ti keeps some crowd pleasing potential.

Honkai Star Rail Kafka Splash Art Shows Stellaron Hunters

Honkai Star Rail Kafka

Ahead of her playable debut in Honkai Star Rail, HoYoVerse shared a teaser of Kafka. Like her compatriot Blade, she will be a five-star character. Her teaser shows that she will be a Lightning character who follows the Path of The Nihility.

Technically speaking, we all already played as Kafka before, since she is the first character you take control of when you start Honkai Star Rail. It’s unclear at this point if there will be a difference between the prologue version of Kafka and the actual one. The prologue version of Kafka had a very straightforward kit that focused solely on dealing damage with her Skill and Ultimate, with no particular frills.

In the story, Kafka is one of the main antagonists and a Stellaron Hunter. The only thing the Interastral Peace Corporation lists on her record, aside from her name, is her hobby. She likes to collect coats. In her splash art, we can see other members of the Stellaron Hunters standing around her. However, aside from Silver Wolf and Blade, they’re all completely obscured by umbrellas.

Honkai Star Rail is readily available on mobile devices and Windows PC. Kafka will appear as a playable character in a future update of Honkai Star Rail.

There will be some balance patches to make the game easier to play. As well, Fate/Grand Order Arcade will still have new events, as well as re-run events. These will highlight on the charm of the Servants in the game, as both characters and playable units.

Xseed and Marvelous didn't mention which games could be discussed during the showcase. We know Touhou: New World is in development for Japan, so there could be an update on that. Loop8: Summer of Gods will launch at the beginning of June 2023 worldwide, so maybe there will be a teaser. Marvelous is also known for series like Bokujou Monogatari/Story of Seasons, so a new entry in the farming series could be announced. It also was behind some Fate/ and Senran Kagura series too.
