Get A First Look At Ghostrunner 2 Gameplay

Ghostrunner 2

The 2020 first-person action title Ghostrunner has garnered a strong community of fans thanks to its precise controls and high-octane action. Perhaps that's why, less than a year following its initial PC release, a sequel was announced. However, outside of some concept art, we haven't seen or heard much from developer One More Level or publisher 505 Games.

However, that changed today, as the studio released a first gameplay look for the highly anticipated sequel. Revealed during today's PlayStation Showcase, the trailer shows the game's cyber-ninja protagonist, Jack, participating in the series' trademark fast-paced, always-forward combat and traversal. According to the team, the sequel looks to elevate the formula in every category, including the addition of vehicular combat.

You can see the trailer for yourself below.

Ghostrunner 2 arrives later this year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Bungie Is Revitalizing Its Old Shooter Series, Marathon

Bungie Marathon

Bungie is best known as the team behind Halo and Destiny, but it's digging through the crates of its past to bring back one of its original successes, Marathon.

Marathon was first released for the Apple Macintosh in 1994 and was a first-person shooter centering on a space-faring security cop fighting to stop an alien invasion. It was followed by two sequels, with the third entry arriving in 1996. This new Marathon sports a distinctly vibrant look and will also be a first-person shooter, but is a PvP extraction-style experience. Players control a runner in order to, according to the game's website, "compete for survival, riches, and renown in a world of evolving, persistent zones, where any run can lead to greatness."

The game's website also has the following synopsis:

A massive ghost ship hangs in low orbit over a lost colony on tau ceti iv. The 30,000 souls who call this place home have disappeared without a trace. strange signals hint at mysterious artifacts, long-dormant ai, and troves of untold riches. You are a runner, venturing into the unknown in a fight for fame… and infamy. Who among you will write their names across the stars?

Marathon is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It will support cross-play and cross-progression but does not have a release window.

Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, And 3 Are Coming To PlayStation 5

One of the biggest 2023 PlayStation Showcase announcements was a confirmation of the long-rumored remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. At the tail end of that announcement, however, was another exciting, admittedly smaller announcement that the first three Metal Gear Solid games will be ported to PlayStation 5 in one presumed package.

The single image above appeared at the end of the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake teaser with the words, "Sneak back into the original games on PlayStation 5," with an autumn 2023 release window. The package is called Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1, which implies more Metal Gears may be on the way. A Volume 2 could, hopefully, finally free Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots from its PlayStation 3 prison – the only platform that game has ever been made available on.

Update: According to the game's listing on the PlayStation Store, the package will also include the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Here is how the the listing of included games is worded on the page.

  • Metal Gear
  • Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
  • Metal Gear Solid (Including VR Missions/Special Missions)
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (HD Collection version)
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (HD Collection version)

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Coming In October

Ubisoft showed off a new look at Assassin’s Creed Mirage at today's PlayStation Showcase. The trailer shows protagonist Basim as he leaps, slides, and fights his way across the ancient streets of Baghdad.

Basim was introduced to Assassin’s Creed players in the earlier release of Valhalla, but this new game jumps back to an earlier time in the character’s life.

The action on display looks slick and modern but strongly calls to mind the flow of gameplay that longtime players may recall from early games in the series, controlling the likes of Altair and Ezio as they moved through large urban cityscapes. The new combat system, in particular, features some especially impressive animations and combat moves. The trailer also suggests that players will have a number of choices in how to approach a given mission, with clear decisions outlined in pre-mission briefings and then the chance to execute on a chosen plan.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is targeting release on October 12 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PC.

The footage shows a very realistic art style with impressive creatures and magic effects. Unfortunately, a release date for the game was not shared.

Alan Wake 2 Is Coming In October

Alan Wake 2 had an appearance today during the PlayStation Showcase event. And as you might've guessed, the trailer left a lot of questions. But it did answer an all-important one: when the game is coming out.

Here's what we gathered: Alan is trapped ... somewhere. According to him, he has to write to escape. Ostensibly, that's from the cult members chasing and attacking seemingly everyone within a 50-mile radius. Alan is writing about the police investigation into the death of Robert Nightingale, one of the antagonists of the first game. Here, the trailer splits into multiple perspectives: that of Alan and that of two investigators (one of which is voiced by James McCaffrey, of Max Payne fame, which Remedy also developed). Notably, we see that we'll play at least two different characters in Alan Wake 2: Alan, of course, but then also one of the investigators, a young woman named Saga Anderson.

The trailer closes with the game's release date: October 17, 2023.

Alan Wake 2 was originally announced back at The Game Awards 2021 via a cinematic trailer. This is the first time we've seen the game in action.

During PlayStation's 2023 Showcase Sony showed Towers Of Aghasba – a game about rebuilding a strange alien world. The admittedly early footage from the game shows a character rebuilding a town, gliding through the air on a paraglider, riding and fighting strange creatures, and collecting resources. The trailer also showed flying whales in the sky.

Towers Of Aghasba comes from Dreamlit and appears to be taking ample inspiration from Breath of the Wild and should be arriving next year.

What's better: A silent protagonist, or combat style ratings?

Last time, you decided that fighting your double is better than optional challenges giving rewards upfront. I am an impartial observer here but oops oh no I have accidentally copy/pasted a remark from commenter Oli Baba, who said "Rewards upfront is one of the coolest mechanics to grace gaming and seems to be losing only because so few people have come across it." Whoops, I really must fix those hotkeys. Next, I ask you to choose between cooly saying nothing, or being told how cool you are. What's better: a silent protagonist, or combat style ratings?

Bungie returns to its roots with a PvP twist on classic FPS series Marathon

Well! Bungie has finally unveiled its next project, and it's quite a surprise, whisking the developer back to its 90s roots for a revival of its classic first-person shooter series Marathon, reimagined as a PvP shooter for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

The original Marathon released in 1994 and went on to spawn two sequels, at which point Microsoft swooped in to purchase Bungie and the Halo franchise was born. Since then, Bungie has been on a quite the journey, working its way through multiple Halo sequels and two Destiny games, the latter of which have kept the studio busy for over a decade. So it's kind of fascinating to see it cast its gaze backward for its first new project as a Sony-owned studio.

The new Marathon is described as a "sci-fi PvP extraction shooter" featuring "evolving, persistent zones" that, while not a direct sequel to the earlier games, is set in the same universe. "PvP" is the key here, too with Bungie confirming it won't have a single-player campaign. It will, however, support cross-play and cross-save between PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Alan Wake 2 gets October release date on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC

UPDATE: In a FAQ shared following tonight's Alan Wake 2 release date news, Remedy has announced the long-awaited horror sequel will be a digital-only release on all platforms and that there are "currently no plans to release Alan Wake 2 on disc".

"There are many reasons for this," the developer explained. "For one, a large number of have shifted to digital only. You can buy a Sony PlayStation 5 without a disc drive and Microsoft's Xbox Series S is a digital only console. It is not uncommon to release modern games as digital-only." It also argued "not releasing a disc helps keep the price of the game at $59.99/€59.99 and the PC version at $49.99/€49.99", and insisted it "did not want to ship a disc product and have it require a download for the game".

Alan Wake 2 will be available in two versions at launch: a standard edition costing £39.99/€49.99/$49.99 USD on PC and £49.99/€59.99/$59.99 on consoles, plus a deluxe edition priced at £54.99/€69.99/$69.99 on PC and £64.99/€79.99/$79.99 on consoles.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Also Confirmed for Xbox and PC

Konami's Metal Gear Solid 3 remake won't just be for PlayStation 5. Following today's PlayStation Showcase stream, Konami put out a press release that also confirmed that the new project — titled Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater — will also be coming to Xbox consoles and PC.

This is big news for Xbox and PC fans, not the least because Metal Gear Solid has historically had strong ties to Sony. Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater was initially confirmed for PlayStation 5 during today's PlayStation Showcase, with confirmation that it would be coming to other platforms revealed later.

First revealed in a CG trailer during the PlayStation Showcase, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater (pronounced "Metal Gear Solid Delta") is the first proper Metal Gear Solid game since Hideo Kojima departed Konami following the release of Metal Gear Solid 5. Konami has since released a handful of in-game screenshots revealing the in-game graphics.

There is precedent for Metal Gear Solid being on Steam — Metal Gear Solid 5 released on the platform alongside console back in 2015. Fans used the opportunity to make numerous mods, such as replacing Snake with Keanu Reeves.

Whatever platform it's experienced on, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater promises to be a faithful retelling of the original game, including implementing the original voice acting featuring David Hayter.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater – 11 Details You May have Missed in the Trailer

Even though the trailer for Konami’s remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 is just over two minutes long, it’s packed with easter eggs and nods to the original game if you look hard enough. Some of them may be blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments, but don’t worry! We’re here to help you spot them all. These are the 11 details you may have missed when watching the trailer.

Shagohod Incoming

One of the coolest details was just under a minute into the trailer, when the green parrot (more on that later) is swooping above the canopy of the forest, a dead frog in its claws. But it’s what’s in the distance that’s interesting, because when lightning lights up the sky it’s possible to make out the shape of the Shagohod being airlifted by several Mil Mi-24 Hind Helicopters. This is a direct reference to what happens in the game, as Volgin readies the Shagohod to take over the USSR. While it’s too far away to see it in detail in the trailer, we’ll definitely be getting much more up close and personal with it in the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake.

Friend of The End

The green parrot that has more air time in the trailer than Snake himself has to be the feathered-friend of ancient sniper The End. Anyone who played Snake Eater will remember how the parrot acted as The End’s spotter, waking him when Snake approaches.

Concord is the First Game From Developer Firewalk Studios

Firewalk Studios has officially announced Concord, its first original AAA project.

At the PlayStation State of Play Showcase, Concord is a new PvP multiplayer set in a science-fiction universe. In addition to launching on PS5, the PlayStation Blog post notes that Concord will also release on PC, though it was not specified whether or not both versions will release concurrently.

"The Firewalk team is driven by the type of exciting, unexpected moments and shared experiences that multiplayer games create," Firewalk Studios Game Director Ryan Ellis wrote in the PlayStation Blog post. "Every time you log on is the beginning of a new adventure, and every match is an opportunity for a new story. It’s these ideals that define Concord, its unique universe of vibrant worlds, and its rich cast of colorful characters."

Firewalk Studios teased its upcoming project back in 2021 when it announced that it was teaming up with PlayStation to make a first-party multiplayer title. Earlier this year, PlayStation announced it had acquired Firewalk Studios.

Spider-Man 2 Gets a 10-Minute Gameplay Demo at PlayStation Showcase Featuring Kraven the Hunter

In one of the most exciting reveals of today's PlayStation Showcase, Marvel's upcoming Spider-Man 2 got a 10-minute gameplay demo, the first extended look of the sequel including a close look at one of its villains, Kraven the Hunter.

The last glimpse at Spider-Man 2 came all the way back in its reveal trailer in 2021 during the PlayStation 5 Showcase. It'll have Peter Parker and Miles Morales returning to New York City to battle one of Spider-Man's most famous enemies, Venom. We see Peter Parker using the Symbiote Suit in combat, and the ability for the player to switch between Peter and Miles as they play. Miles' section featured a lot of stealth gameplay as he infilitrated a warehouse full of enemies, and he eventually meets up with Peter and comments on the Symbiote Suit before the two join up for a chase sequence.

A PS Blog post confirms that we did indeed see Kraven the Hunter at the start: he's beginning his Great Hunt for an equal alongside the rising threats of the Symbiote. In the gameplay we saw, we watched Kraven's Hunters chasing down The Lizard, with Peter and Miles trying to stop them as they soar over the East River in Queens - one of multiple new boroughs included in the game.

Bungie Reveals New Marathon Game at PlayStation Showcase

Bungie has revealed the next installment in its Marathon series, which has not seen a new entry since 1996.

During today's PlayStation Showcase, Bungie revealed a trailer for a revival of Marathon, its sci-fi first-person shooter series. Bungie is calling it its first completely new project in more than a decade.

Marathon is currently for both PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC and will feature cross-play and cross-save. According to the PlayStation Blog, "Marathon will find players engaging one another as cybernetic mercenaries known as Runners, exploring a lost colony on the planet of Tau Ceti IV in search of riches, fame, and infamy."

In an interview in the same blog post, Marathon Game Director Christopher Barrett revealed that the game is PvP-focused and won't feature a single-player campaign. He also discussed the game's ties to the original Marathon series.

"It’s not a direct sequel to the originals, but something that certainly belongs in the same universe and that feels like a Bungie game," Barrett said. "Finding those opportunities to nod to the universe’s lore, while also getting to build something different and new has been one of the best parts of developing this game so far."

However, it will still honor the mythology and story of the original Marathon games, he said.

Marathon was not yet given a release window, although Marathon's General Manager, Scott Taylor, said that the next update about the game will feature gameplay footage closer to launch.

Sony Announces PlayStation Handheld to Put Razer Edge to Shame

At the PlayStation Showcase, Sony announced a new game streaming device along with true wireless earbuds for gaming.

For all the folks hoping for a Sony competitor to the Nintendo Switch, this doesn't look to be what you're looking for. Sony stated it was for streaming games from your PS5 to a handheld screen, rather than playing anything natively. Think more Razer Edge and less Steam Deck.

This is the "Project Q" that's been rumored for a while. It features an 8-inch screen and a controller attachment on either side, making it look like a DualSense controller with a screen instead of a touchpad. This way, you'll finally be able to play The Last of Us on the toilet — it's not going to happen reliably through the Steam Deck for a while.
