Here’s How The Seven Deadly Sins Origin Looks

Back in January 2022, Netmarble announced it was working on The Seven Deadly Sins Origin. This is an open-world game based on the Nakaba Suzuki series of the same name. At GDC 2023, Netmarble offered an extended look at gameplay. An almost three minute long video looks at exploration and fights against enemies.

Things begin with Tristan Liones alongside a fairy. The two head down a hole. He finds a power, which involves with the two finding themselves in.a changed world. As the video goes on, additional characters from the series appear. For example, when showing battle segments, we can see icons and appearances of characters like Howzer and Gilthunder. We also get to see various ways of traveling through the world, such as riding on the back of a monster or diving into water to swim. There’s also some light puzzle solving to reach Bigmoss’ Secret Storeroom.

The Seven Deadly Sins Origin is being developed by Netmarble for unspecified consoles, PCs, and mobile devices. The manga is available outside Japan via Kodansha USA. People can stream the anime on Netflix. Kodansha USA also is releasing the Four Knights of the Apocalypse sequel manga outside Japan, and it will get its own anime adaptation.

Fire Emblem Engage Fell Xenologue DLC Restricts Your Army

1 year 2 months ago

fire emblem engage fell xenologue

Nintendo released some details on what the Fell Xenologue DLC will be like in Fire Emblem Engage. There will be several restrictions on your army and play style, which make maps more challenging. As a reminder, you’ll be able to use Lady Nel and Nil in this DLC. However, if they (and Alear) die, then it’ll be an instant game over.

For starters, your units will always return at the end of the a Fell Xenologue chapter even if they die. It doesn’t matter if you’re playing on Casual or Classic. There is a restriction on your units, though. Fell Xenologue units will have a set level and class, as well as a starting inventory. This essentially means that you are unable to use your own characters, which might force you to have to use new strategies.

Lady Nel and Nil will be guest units every single map. Nintendo previously posted information on how you can use them in combat. Lady Nel uses lances and Dragonstones, with the latter weapon allowing her to transform into a Fell Dragon. This makes her a formidable attacker. Nil, on the other hand, is more of a support character. Like Nel, he is a Fell Dragon, but he is unable to transform.

Elden Ring’s ray tracing update is out – here’s how it looks and runs on PC

1 year 2 months ago

Surprise! The long-promised patch that brings ray tracing to Elden Ring is here, over a year after release. There’s much more in the version 1.09 update besides – the patch notes list plenty of balance changes and bug fixes – but given the sheer amount of time the new ray tracing features have been in the works, not to mention the fact that Elden Ring has never exactly been an exemplar of technical reliability, I wanted to focus in on 'em and see what performance is like on PC.

The Electronic Wireless Show podcast S2 Ep 8: what the hap is heckening at Studio ZA/UM?

1 year 2 months ago

This week on the Electronic Wireless Show podcast we bite off more than we can chew by trying to make sense of the timeline of the Studio ZA/UM firings, lawsuits, and alleged fraud/toxicity, an ongoing and complicate mess that, as of this week, shows no signs of ungoing. We kind of end up on an "who tf knows?" but do manage to boil it down into a cowboy metaphor that helps us get a grip on things.

We talk about all that stuff for so long that we end up overrunning and don't have time for A Good Day To Ware Hard, or Nate's Tower Of Jocularity - although he promises a titanic one next week. We do get in our what games we've been playing this week, and it's a varied selection.

Lego 2K Drive looks like a bricky blend of Forza Horizon and Sonic Racing

1 year 2 months ago

After some early leaks these last few days, publisher 2K have officially announced Lego 2K Drive, an open-world racer that looks surprisingly awesome - if you’ll excuse the low-hanging adjective. The game features co-op, multiplayer modes, and the ability to transform between air and land vehicles, Team Sonic Racing-style. The downside? Its collection of pre-order bonuses probably needs a graph of some kind to understand.

Dreamcast revival C-Smash VRS now has a demo on the PlayStation Store

1 year 2 months ago

C-Smash VRS - the PSVR2 update of Sega's cult 2001 arcade and Dreamcast game Cosmic Smash - now has a demo on the PlayStation Store ahead of its 23rd June release.

The original Cosmic Smash offered something like a futuristic blend of Breakout and squash, challenging players to use a ball and racquet to clear blocks at the end of a long room within a time limit, with each "stop" on its subway-style map offering up a new challenge.

C-Smash VRS takes that same basic premise and gives it a VR twist, promising "intuitive controls, finger detection, 3D audio, and haptics", alongside solo play, a variety of online versus and co-op modes, plus a dynamic synth soundtrack from Danalogue and Rez Infinite's DJ Ken Ishii.

CD Projekt made Keanu Reeves a "real asshole" in Cyberpunk 2077 because his "star power" made players side with him

1 year 2 months ago

Keanu Reeves' "star power" gave him such a draw that CD Projekt Red had to make his Cyberpunk 2077 character, Johnny Silverhand, especially "horrible" at first just so player's wouldn't constantly side with him in quest choices.

That's according to Paweł Sasko, who was lead quest designer on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, and is now CDPR's quest director for the upcoming Phantom Liberty expansion. Sasko was speaking at his GDC talk on Wednesday, where he suggested it's a similar situation for Idris Elba, who stars in the DLC.

"When it comes to Cyberpunk," he said, "we discovered this very interesting factor which is star power. We had Keanu Reeves playing Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077 - and Idris Elba in Phantom Liberty - and so we had to take into account the fact that every time we had a star, players were going to fall for a star almost all the time.

The Deceptively Simple Reason Nintendo Waited So Long to Make a 3D Kirby Game

1 year 2 months ago

Nintendo's colorful cast of mascot characters have, over the years, by and large all made the jump from 2D into 3D. Mario, Donkey Kong, Legend of Zelda's Link, Samus Aran, and others who began in 2D environments all eventually made their way into fully 3D games. But there's one Nintendo staple that took much longer than others: Kirby. And at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2023, HAL Laboratory expert director Tatsuya Kamiyama explained exactly why.

The short answer: It's because Kirby's round.

Okay, this is a bit of an oversimplification. As Kamiyama explained during his GDC panel and a subsequent interview with IGN, it's not that HAL Laboratory has been sitting on a 3D Kirby game for years and was only just now able to get a 3D Kirby off the ground, so to speak. But once HAL decided that was a leap it wanted to make, a 3D Kirby action game presented a number of challenges for the studio that took considerable work to overcome. And many of them stem from the fact that our puffball friend is effectively a simple, pink sphere.

Due to this, the company announced via its website that a number of services in their Ireland-based stores are no longer available as of March 22, 2023. In the wake of this news, the website announcement encouraged customers to use their existing gift cards and store credit as soon as possible in-store or on the official website.

The services that will no longer be offered or sold are as follows:

  • Game Protection
  • GameStop Pro Loyalty Memberships
  • Gift cards
  • Pre-orders(Existing pre-orders will result in a refund for the amount of the deposit.)
  • Store credit will still be offered for some items.

This news comes as GameStop's stock price rose 35% on March 22, 2023, as noted by Markets Insider. The increase in stock price comes as the company posted a profit in the fourth quarter of 2022, the first such rise in profit in two years. In order to keep up this profitable operation, CEO Matt Furlong said the company would be cutting costs. As noted in the call notes on Seeking Alpha, part of this would include "exiting" operations in other European countries like Ireland. He also mentioned the company would focus on products like toys and collectibles going forward.

Gundam: Witch From Mercury Character Designer Mogumo Talks About Their First Gundam

1 year 2 months ago

Gundam Witch From Mercury Character Designs

In an interview with the official Gundam.info site, Character Designer Mogumo shared their thoughts on the design process for Witch from Mercury characters and their introduction to the Gundam franchise. Mogumo previously created designs for Cygames' upcoming Project GAMM and is part of design group Morion Airlines with writer and planner HISADAKE.

Mogumo begin the interview discussing how they initially considered Gundam as "something on a higher threshold" until they found themselves working on a different Gundam project. As part of their research, they say they watched Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans and has since watched others as well. As part of their impressions of the franchise, they draw attention to the Gundam: The Witch from Mercury characters and their interactions:

Since it's a show about war, where weapons play a part, I knew it would be heavy, but it's more than that. The relationships and bonds between the characters are always portrayed with warmth and that's part of the attraction.

Mogumo also explained that they became involved in the project whilst visiting Sunrise representatives, who invited their unit to take part in the design competition. While initially excited, Mogumo stated that they began to feel some anxiety as the scale of the project dawned on them.

The Best 3DS and Wii U Games to Buy Before It's Too Late, and How To Get Them

1 year 2 months ago

Twelve Years after the doors of the 3DS and Wii U eShop opened, they are sadly closing for good.

Nintendo has announced that on March 27th, 2023, it will no longer be possible to purchase games digitally from that generation of consoles. But for months now, it’s been impossible to buy anything ever since they revoked the ability to directly add funds to your account, so we shouldn’t care about this announcement, right? Well, turns out there’s a completely valid way Nintendo has allowed you to still add funds to your account, and it’s super simple to do.

So here is how you can still buy 3DS games and Wii U games before they are gone forever–plus some game recommendations in case you don’t know what to get.

How to Still Buy Games on 3DS and Wii U.

To start, you’re gonna need a Nintendo Switch, this is the key to all of this. Click on your personal user icon in the top left of the home screen, then scroll down to “Friend Suggestions.” You’ll notice icons for the 3DS and Wii U in the top bar. Go ahead and click “Next” in either tab and it will prompt you to sign in to your “Nintendo Network ID Account.” This was the 3DS/Wii U equivalent of the modern-day MyNintendo account that was used to tie purchases to your email.

Once you’ve linked your Switch with your Nintendo Network ID Account, you’re almost done! Next, go into the Switch eShop and click on the settings icon in the top right. Under the “Available Funds” section, you’ll see a little prompt saying “Merge Funds with Nintendo 3DS/Wii U.” Click this and you’ve done it! Now whenever you add funds to your Nintendo Switch eShop, they will also be available for use in the 3DS and Wii U eShops!

7 Wonders Board Game Review (2023)

1 year 2 months ago

Civilization games have always been popular but they tend to be long and complex and thus hard to get to the table. 7 Wonders’ claim to fame is that it’s a card-based civilization game that you can teach and play to completion in well under an hour. Such is the appeal of this concept that since its release in 2010 it’s been showered with an endless parade of awards and sold so strongly that it’s had an overhaul reprint and a slew of expansions that have kept it relevant and popular to this day. It's well on its way to becoming a classic board game.

What’s in the Box

Like a lot of high-concept card games, 7 Wonders comes in a big box that’s largely empty. The top layer of contents consists of two token punchboards, a rulebook and a pile of reference sheets. Beneath that there’s a storage tray that holds player boards, each printed with a different wonder of the world, a pad of scoring sheets, and some decks of cards.

Most of the space on the boards and cards is devoted to artwork, a pleasing blend of realism with a little bit of artistic licence.

See our picks for the best strategy board games.

Naruto Akatsuki Trailer Focuses on Itachi

1 year 2 months ago

naruto akatsuki

The Jump Comics Channel on YouTube uploaded a video showcasing the Akatsuki organization from Naruto. All of its members get a little bit of stage time showing off their personalities. But Itachi Uchiha is the one who has the most prominent place in the footage.

The Naruto Akatsuki promotional video is just over a minute long. It does contain some spoilers if you are not caught up with the series, such as Obito’s identity and Sasori’s true face. You can watch the video here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swq--rdN-2k

In the Naruto series, Akatsuki was an organization of shinobi who did not have an affiliation with a village. Its members have changed since its creation, and the ones in the video are from Nagato’s time as the leader. These are also the members that the audience first sees when Akatsuki starts becoming a more active threat at the beginning of Shippuden.

Though the main Naruto series ended some time ago, it’s been a busy time for its fans. Not only is there a VR attraction, but there was also a popularity poll to decide the main character of a short spin-off. Jump Comics will announce the winner in April 2023, but when it last revealed the interim results, the top three characters were Minato Namikaze, Itachi Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno. Itachi’s popularity might have lent to his screentime in the Akatsuki trailer.

Learn About Character Lighting in Xenoblade Chronicles 3

1 year 2 months ago

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 character

Fans of Xenoblade Chronicle 3 can now learn how Monolith Soft made the game’s characters lighting, shading, and facial expressions. Japanese gaming outlet Game Makers recently released to the public the contents of a lecture detailing the process behind creating Xenoblade Chronicles 3’s two toon-style light shaders. The lecture was held at the CEDEC+KYUSHU 2022 conference on November 12, 2022, and Monolith Soft programmer Kei Tateno was in charge of it. [Thanks, Game Makers!]

Because the main theme of the game is “Life and Death,” the developers at Monolith Soft wanted to use lighting and shadows to reflect these themes in the characters facial expressions. In order to achieve this, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 uses shadows with higher contrast on characters, which results in a more distinct look when compared to previous entries.

This was accomplished with the use of a two-light shading system. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 uses point lights, which reflect effects like fire or lamps, combined with directional lights from sources like moonlight. Meanwhile, previous Xenoblade Chronicles entries use a different, more simplified method for representing light sources and shadows on characters.

Men Of War 2's multiplayer mode is the tank's time to shine

1 year 2 months ago

Men Of War 2 doesn't do anything by half measures, as I discovered during a recent tussle with its online multiplayer modes. Whereas Relic's recently released Company Of Heroes 3 will let you pick from its four broad faction types in its WWII RTS battles, Men Of War 2 takes a much more granular view, offering up 14-15 different unit types for each of its three playable nations. That's a dizzying array of infantry, tank and artillery battalions to choose from, and that's before you account for all the individual nuances between its Soviet, USA and German army types. Throw in seven game modes across several different maps, and it's a veritable strategy smorgasbord to stuff your face into.

Crucially, though, everyone gets access to some sort of tank, which let's face it, is always going to be the MVP of any WW2 strategy game, and probably the sole reason why we're here in the first place. As Men Of War 2 heads into its first open multiplayer tech test on Steam today (running until March 27th), here's my full report of my mildly doomed multiplayer tankventures in its Combat, Front Line and Incursion modes.

Wild Hearts teases new "petal-manipulating fox" in major April update

1 year 2 months ago

Omega Force has shared more on monster-battler Wild Hearts' major April update, which introduces a new "petal-manipulating fox" Kemono, new Karakuri, and more. Additionally, the developer has added new the Grimstalker Kemono variant in a smaller update launching today.

Omega Force previously teased a big Wild Hearts update as part of the game's post-launch roadmap earlier this month, but now the developer has slapped it with a 6th April release date, and provided more details on what it'll bring.

First up is Murakumo, the aforementioned fox-inspired Kemono with the power to manipulate petals (and also the first brand-new Kemono to join Wild Hearts since launch), which drops materials needed to craft a selection of new weapons and armour sets. Additionally, it brings a new Spinning Top Kakuri, the first new Karakuri to be introduced to the base game.

Tropico dev's 'impossified' theme park sim Park Beyond out in June

1 year 2 months ago

Park Beyond - Tropico developer Limbic Entertainment's physics-defying theme park management sim - has a release date and will be bringing a dash of impossification to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on 16th June.

On a basic level, Park Beyond delivers pretty much everything you'd expect from a theme park management sim, asking players to plop down rides, set up shops, hire employees, and slap down scenery in a bid to create the most appealing - and lucrative - tourist attraction they can.

The twist, though, is "impossification", which lets players create ludicrous, gravity defying rides reminiscent of Till Nowak's wonderful short The Centrifuge Brain Project - perhaps unlocking a version of the classic pirate ship swing ride capable of splitting into three independently looping segments, or rollercoasters that can fling cars across gaps using cannons.

RPS@PAX 2023: We chat with Necrosoft Games about their spooky-not-scary tactical horror RPG Demonschool

1 year 2 months ago

It's day one of PAX East and what better way to kick off our show coverage than highlighting a great indie game! We first came across Demonschool back at PAX West last year and have loved it ever since. It's a slick, tactical Persona-like where you play as a band of university students navigating school life by day and beating up ghosties and ghoulies by night.

I had a chat with Demonschool's Jenna Stoeber who talked me through what Demonschool is about, the game's many horror inspirations, and what spooky shinanigans players can expect.
