Gotham Knights Update Adds 4-Player Heroic Assault And 2-Player Showdown Modes Today

1 year 5 months ago

Gotham knights heroic assault starro villain four player co op

Before the release of Gotham Knights, Warner Bros. Games Montreal revealed that following the game's launch, four-player co-op, a heavily requested feature by fans, would be added in the form of a new mode called Heroic Assault. That mode, as well as a new two-player mode called Showdown, are both live now in Gotham Knights thanks to a new update.

The base campaign of Gotham Knights allows for two-player co-op play, but getting all four of the knights together wasn't possible. That's still the case while playing through the game's story, but the new online cooperative Heroic Assault mode, which tasks players with defeating enemies and completing challenges across 30 floors, supports four-player play.

You can get a look at what to expect in the new trailer below:

As you can see, Starro, who will look familiar to those that watched last year's The Suicide Squad, is the main villain at play here in Heroic Assault. But this alien is not alone – Man-Bat is under their control, so players will need to take down this villain as well.

Today's update also includes a new mode called Showdown, which will give up to two players the chance to face off against enemies from the base game in a new way.

Hello Good Smile Persona 5 Joker, Panther, and Mona Figures Will Break into 2023

Back in August 2022, Good Smile Company announced at Smile Fest 2022 that Persona characters would join its Hello! Good Smile line. Now, pre-orders opened for the three characters. The Persona 5 Joker, Panther, and Mona figures will be a part of Hello! Good Smile starting in May 2023 in Japan. They'll show up in North America in July 2023. As is common with this budget line, each one will be ¥2,000/$12.99.

The Joker, Panther, and Mona figures feature all three characters in their Phantom Thief attire. Each one only offers one point of articulation. People can adjust the character’s head. This allows it to be tilted to the side. They are all stylized approached to the different people. Every Hello! Good Smile figure features an open-mouthed smile, two eyes, and a chibi sort of appearance. They also all stand at just around four inches tall.

Here's a closer look at the Persona 5 Joker figure.

Fire Emblem Engage Celica Tutorial Released

1 year 5 months ago

Fire Emblem Engage Celica

The official Japanese Fire Emblem Engage account released a short tutorial detailing how players will be able to use the Emblem ring for Fire Emblem Echoes alum Celica. In the title, Celica appears as a character who can be summoned to support units on the field. The game itself revolves around calling these famed characters to lend their prowess in battle.

Check out the tutorial below.
https://twitter.com/FireEmblemJP/status/1597501891478364163

Celica debuted in Fire Emblem Gaiden.  She is a playable protagonist in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, the 3DS remake of Gaiden. There, she is a princess of the nation of Zofia and fights in the war on the Valentian continent.

In Fire Emblem Engage, Celica is an Emblem character that specializes at using magical attacks. She's also particularly good at tackling the Corrupted enemies found throughout the game. Characters with a more magical favor in their stats and classes will be most compatible with her.

Celica also has several abilities, like a Sync skill that reflects damage back onto Corrupted enemies. Her Engage Weapon Seraphim (or "Angel" in Japanese) further damages Corrupted enemies with magical power. Her Engage Skill "Recital" (or "recitation") splits a magical attack into two, slightly weaker magical attacks. The "Warp Liner" Engage Attack teleports the Celica-using unit to a faraway enemy and attacks it. Flying-type units can warp even further when using Warp Liner.

UK university reports loot boxes cause "financial and emotional harm" to children

1 year 5 months ago

A three-year study into the impact of video game loot boxes on young people has concluded that such mechanics cause "financial and emotional harm" to teenagers and children.

The report, published by Newcastle and Loughborough Universities, tracked the gaming habits of 42 families with children aged between five and 17, and interviewed another 30 parents, carers and video game designers.

In short, the study found children struggled to track spending in video games where "highly alluring" digital items were advertised to them using techniques borrowed from regulated gambling.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Is More Popular Than Ever on PC

1 year 5 months ago

Red Dead Redemption 2 has surpassed its previous record for the highest number of concurrent players on PC since its launch three years ago.

As reported by Eurogamer, SteamDB shows Red Dead Redemption 2 racked up 66,492 concurrent players on November 24. This was significantly higher than its previous record of 55,271 that was recorded on December 26 2019, soon after the title’s November 5 PC Release.

The recent upsurge in players was likely spurred on by Steam’s seasonal Autumn sale which saw the game reduced by 67%. Publisher Take-Two Interactive revealed earlier this year that Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold over 45 million copies to date since its release.

Despite its undeniable success, developer Rockstar Games announced in July that Red Dead Online wouldn’t receive any further “themed content updates”, as development resources were instead being pushed towards the creation of Grand Theft Auto 6.

A week after the announcement, committed fans held a funeral for Red Dead Online, during which members of the community dressed in black and paid their respects.

Xbox Games With Gold for December 2022 Revealed

1 year 5 months ago

Microsoft has announced the Xbox Games with Gold line-up for December 2022 includes Colt Canyon and Bladed Fury.

Revealed on the Xbox Wire, the two Games with Gold offerings will be available to anyone with Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, with Colt Canyon available first from December 1 to 31 and Bladed Fury available from December 16 to January 15.

Originally launching in 2020, Colt Canyon is a 2D pixel art shooter where players take on the role of a cowboy on a mission to save his kidnapped partner from ruthless bandits.

Exploring the Colt Canyon will reward players with hidden treasures and weapons, but naturally also features various dangers and more than enough TNT.

Bladed Fury was released in 2018 as a 2D fantasy action game based on a slightly surreal version of Chinese history and mythology. Playing as the exiled Princess Ji, players must traverse the side-scrolling environment as they chain combos and destroy all manners of gods and monsters.

New games approaching also means that November's Games with Gold will soon leave the service, so be sure to download Roman Empire RTS Praetorians and co-op twin-stick shooter Dead End Job before it's too late.

Nvidia Announces December Release Date For Portal RTX

1 year 5 months ago

Nvidia has announced that its graphically enhanced upgrade Portal RTX is arriving on December 8.

Revealed in a blog post, the December release date marks a small delay from the company's original November launch plan but fans still only have another week or so to wait.

The free DLC for Portal upgrades the 2007 puzzle game with ray tracing and remade high resolution textures. DLSS2 allows for full ray tracing while Nvidia's latest DLSS 3 technology improves the frame rate 2.8 times over for those who own an RTX 40-series graphics card.

Portal RTX was announced during Nvidia's GTC keynote in September alongside RTX Remix, the tool used to remaster the game with ray tracing.

Nvidia said the tool would also be made available so players could upgrade other games, but it's unclear if this will launch alongside the Portal update or be released later.

In our 8/10 review of Portal, IGN said: "The idea behind Portal ends up being more brilliant than Portal itself. Regardless, we definitely had a lot of fun with what is there and appreciate the level of polish and thought that went into the presentation."

Xbox Games With Gold for December Show That the Offering Is On Life Support

1 year 5 months ago

Today Microsoft announced the Games With Gold titles that will be available to subscribers in the month of December at no additional cost.

We’re getting the 2020 western 2D pixel art shooter Colt Canyon by Retrific and the 2D action game Bladed Fury by PM Studios. The former will be available from Dec. 1 to Dec. 31, while the latter will be downloadable from Dec. 16 to Jan. 15.

Since last month (that included Praetorians – HD Remaster and Dead End Job), Microsoft removed the Xbox 360 games from the offering, which means that now the number of bonus games is reduced to two.

Mind you, the removal of Xbox 360 games is understandable, as the platform is 17 years old now. I’m also not saying the games provided are bad, albeit they’re certainly very niche.

In its marketing communication back in July, Microsoft mentioned that “Games with Gold will continue to include exciting Xbox One titles,” but from what we’ve seen so far, the “excitement” is gone.

I certainly remember the times in which the monthly announcement of the Games with Gold was welcomed with great excitement by the fans, but that is a thing of the past, and nowadays, all I see is groaning and eyes rolling skyward.

How Many Pokemon Are There in 2022?

1 year 5 months ago

how many pokemon

With the recent release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, GameFreak introduced a total of 103 new Pokemon. That’s quite a lot, for a game that’s already teeming with classics from generations past. So now with the addition of those 100 Paldean Pokemon, just how many Pocket Monsters are in the entire franchise?

As of November 2022, there are 1008 species of Pokemon in the series. That does not mean all of them are available to catch in Scarlet or Violet, of course. This number does not count those with different forms and types as a separate entry. For example, Vulpix and Alolan Vulpix count as one. With that said, let’s look at a break-down of how many Pokemon are in each region and generation.

Kanto (Generation I): 151

Johto (Generation II): 100

Hoenn (Generation III): 135

Sinnoh (Generation IV): 107

Unova (Generation V): 156

Kalos (Generation VI): 72

Alola (Generation VII): 86

Galar (Generation VIII): 89

Hisui (Generation VIII): 7

Paldea (Generation IX): 103

The exact number of new Pokemon per generation is slightly incorrect in the above list. In Generation VII, GameFreak introduced Meltan and Melmetal in the Let’s Go spin-off games. However, those two are from Kanto and not Alola.

Copyright, cost, and ageing code: why some games disappear from Steam

1 year 5 months ago

Somewhere in the region of 8,000 games have been removed from Steam since its inception, from the mass banning of “fake games”, to publishers removing their own titles due to licensing disputes, pending re-releases, personal disillusionment, server shutdowns and political scandals. Valve even took down one of its own games. Released in 2004 with Steam AppID 92, Codename: Gordon is a Flash-based 2D side-scroller set in the Half-Life universe, developed by Nuclearvision and published by Valve. It was removed due to a hard-coded link to the now-defunct developer’s domain, which Valve regarded as a security risk.

But removed isn’t always the same as gone, and exploring Steam’s deleted items is an adventure through modern gaming history. I spoke to some developers of delisted games to find out more.

New Minecraft Default Skins Bring More Diversity to Mojang’s Ultra-Popular Game

1 year 5 months ago

Today Microsoft and Mojang are releasing a brand new set of default skins that will add more options when you create your character.

Previously, Minecraft had only two default skins, Steve and Alex, but starting today you’ll be able to select a whole seven more, bringing the total to nine.

The new characters are Makena, Efe, Noor, Kai, Ari, Sunny, and Zuri, adding a lot more diversity to the default offering. Of course, enterprising players will still be able to fully customize their character, but those who want to just jump into the game on the fly will have more options to choose from.

The new skins were originally presented at Minecraft Live in October, alongside plenty of upcoming content like camels, a bamboo building set, hanging signs, and chiseled bookshelves. That being said, these will come to the live version of the game much later in 2023.

In the meanwhile, you can see all the new skins in the trailer below. They should be already available in the game at the moment of this writing.

Minecraft is currently available for basically everything with a chip, including PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.

Red Forman Is Back to Put His Foot Up Your Ass in That ’90s Show

1 year 5 months ago

The official teaser for the highly-anticipated sequel, That ’90s Show, has been released to showcase the return of Kitty and Red Forman as they take on the new roles as grandparents.

In this teaser, we see the latest cast of whimsical characters in the well-known basement of the series, which was the popular hangout spot for the main character, Eric Forman, and his friends in That ’70s Show. But, since this Netflix show is a sequel, fans now get to experience the ’90s era with Eric’s daughter, Leia.

The story of That ’90s Show begins when Leia visits her grandparent’s home for the summer in the year 1995. She quickly makes new friends at Point Place, and just like her father and his group, it doesn’t take long for them to “chill” in the basement.

Many characters from That ’70s Show will be returning for this series, including Eric Forman (Topher Grace), Donna Forman (Laura Prepon), Michael Kelso (Ashton Kutcher), Jackie Burkhart (Mila Kunis), and Fez (Wilmer Valderrama). Although they don’t have prominent roles, fans can expect to see them in one special episode, but they could make a surprise appearance as time goes on.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Editor Implies Namor Might Have Tricked Shuri Into Marriage

1 year 5 months ago

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever editor Michael P. Shawver has revealed in an interview with Newsweek,  some interesting tidbits of how things evolved during the editing of the movie, especially related to the story of Namor (Tenoch Huerta) and Shuri (Letitia Wright) and the chemistry between them.

Both characters bond because their cultures, way of living, and ideas about the outside world are not that dissimilar, and as Namor shows Shuri his home country of Talocan, the chemistry between them is more than palpable. Shawver said that the editors (himself, Kelley Dixon, and Jennifer Lame) and director Ryan Coogler kept thinking about the pair and their relationship while editing and what it could’ve become.

About the relationship, Sawver said:

“They relate, and I think that anytime we can relate to somebody there can be undertones of that kind of thing, you know what I mean?”

He then added about the fact that Namor gave Shuri his mother’s bracelet:

“Honestly, we’ve got to keep ourselves sane and laugh a lot, especially with the tougher moments or the serious moments, so we would always joke that when he gave her that bracelet they were married now, and she didn’t know it. There’s a whole different movie where she’s like, ‘wait, what, I’m the queen of Talokan now?’”

Other interesting tidbits Shawver shared in this interview are about the relationship between Shuri and Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), a longer scene in Talokan, and how difficult it was for him to edit the scenes honoring the late Chadwick Boseman.

A Terrible 2022 Halloween Horror Remake Is Already Releasing a Sequel This New Year’s Eve

1 year 5 months ago

If you’re a fan of trashy horror, we’ve got something pretty weird to share with you. So, the film Terror Train originally came out in 1980, furthering the Scream Queen legend of Jamie Lee Curtis. Here we are 40 years later, and a remake has come to the Tubi streaming service. But that’s not the only wrinkle here.

The remake was released exclusively on the Tubi streaming platform last month on the 21st to some terrifically bad reviews (read: 20% on Rotten Tomatoes). However, the filmmakers and Tubi haven’t let that deter them, and a sequel is coming on New Year’s Eve. I don’t mean New Year’s next year, as Terror Train 2’s release is actually only one month away.

Per Bloody Disgusting, it was revealed earlier this week that Terror Train 2 would be arriving on Tubi exclusively on Dec. 31, 2022. It can be assumed these films were shot back to back, but it was pretty presumptive to inherently expect viewers will return once more. Though, as Tubi is ad-based, it’s likely they don’t have to rack up the viewers to break even.

If you’ve never heard of the Terror Train films, we’ll give you the comparisons. The first movie is summarized on Tubi as “Jamie Lee Curtis stars as a co-ed on a costume party train ride stalked by a fraternity pledge she helped haze, which put him in a mental asylum.”

The remake sounds quite different. “A group of college seniors fights for survival as an unknown, masked killer seeks revenge during a Halloween-themed pre-graduation bash aboard a party train.” The plot of the sequel will be entirely unconnected outside of continuing the train motif.

Overwatch 2 Reveals Season 2 Content With Trailer Including Battle for Olympus Mode, Skins, & More

1 year 5 months ago

Today Blizzard released a new trailer showcasing the content coming with Overwatch 2’s Season 2.

Of course, the new hero Ramattra (for whom you can check out the animated introduction and gameplay reveal) gets the lion’s share of the spotlight, but there is a lot more content coming with the new season.

Ramattra himself is defined as a “tempo tank” as the gist of his gameplay is based on switching between his Omnic form and his time-limited Nemesis form.

The new map named Shambali offers new escort gameplay set in the Himalayas. It also fits Ramattra’s looks, which do resemble these of a Tibetan priest in some ways.

A new Battle Pass will bring forth epic, legendary, and mythic skins, some of which are themed after greek Gods, befitting the new Battle for Olympus mode (which isn’t coming immediately. It’ll launch on Jan. 5). In particular, Junker Queen is getting a mythic skin which turns her into a lady Zeus.

The Holidays will also bring festive events and their own skins, which you can see in the video below.

The new season begins on Dec. 6, so the wait won’t be too long.

Descend Through the Villainous Filth of Gotham Knights in Heroic Assault

1 year 5 months ago

If you’ve been enjoying Gotham Knights or are looking for a reason to get back into it, there certainly might be something here with the new Heroic Assault mode added in the newest update. Unlike the base game, Heroic Assault is four-player co-op. This means you can gather three friends and play as the complete roster of Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, or Red Hood.

Heroic Assault has players venture to the area under Gotham City once again and, this time, descend through 30 floors filled with the game’s toughest enemies. This content update also brings in the infamous Justice League villain Starro. Fans of DC films might remember that Starro was the big bad from the recent Suicide Squad film. The fiend is up to its usual mind-control tricks, and you’ll have to fight controlled Gotham City citizens. The trailer for the Heroic Assault update certainly seems to be teasing a fight with Starro itself.

Dell's Cyber Monday sale continues for Cyber Week, which starts now and continues through this weekend. There are still some great deals on Alienware and Dell XPS gaming PCs, Alienware and Dell G-series gaming laptops, gaming consoles, monitors, and electronics. Of particular note, for the first time ever the 2022-2023 Alienware Aurora R15 PC with the new 13th gen Intel Raptor Lake CPU and GeForce RTX 4090 CPU is on sale with a 10% off coupon code. That brings the price down to under $4K, still out of reach for most people, but a hefty $450 discount nonetheless. Check out the deals below.

New Release: Alienware Aurora R15 Intel Core i9 Raptor Lake GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming PC

with 240mm AIO Watercooling and 1350W Power Supply

New for the 2022-2023 season, the Alienware Aurora R15 is the first ever Dell PC equipped with both the 13th generation Intel Raptor Lake processor and the RTX 40 series GPU. The Intel Core i9-13900KF boasts a turbo-boosted clock speed of 5.8GHz and a whopping 24 cores and 32 threads. It's definitely more powerful than the i9 Alder Lake, and it gives AMD's flagship AMD Ryzen 9 7950X a run for its money.

The RTX 4090 is far and away the most powerful video card you can get right now. No other GPU, either from NVIDIA or from AMD, comes close. As a reference, the RTX 4090 is about 110% faster at 4K gaming than the already impressive RTX 3080. It's about 60% faster than the previous king, the RTX 3090 Ti. That could very well be the single biggest performance upgrade within a single generational gap for the GeForce line of cards.

Elden Ring Developers Compare Working at FromSoftware to Playing Dark Souls

1 year 5 months ago

Elden Ring is one of the biggest video game success stories of 2022, but now its developer, FromSoftware, is making headlines due to rumors of crunch and low pay at its development studio.

FromSoftware's latest title earned widespread critical acclaim, and its quality has been reflected in the sales charts as well. The game broke into the mainstream in a big way, having one of the biggest game launches on YouTube ever.

Unfortunately, like so many wildly successful AAA video game titles, it didn't take long for conversations of crunch, long overtime hours, and low salaries to surround developer FromSoftware.

The discourse began in March, shortly after Elden Ring's release. First spotted by The Gamer, it turns out that a handful of FromSoftware employees were turning to a Japanese job board called Career Connection to discuss poor working conditions and low pay.

For context, Career Connection is essentially a Japanese version of Glassdoor, where current or former employees can leave reviews of their employer to inform potential future applicants about working conditions at a company.

The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR confirmed as PSVR 2 launch title

1 year 5 months ago

The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR - developer Supermassive Games' rail-shooter spin on its acclaimed narrative horror series - has been confirmed as a launch day title for Sony's PlayStation VR 2, meaning it'll arrive on 22nd February next year.

Switchback isn't Supermassive's first foray into spooky VR, of course; it previously adapted its cinematic horror game Until Dawn into both a VR prequel and a gaudy, rollercoaster-like rail shooter called Rush of Blood. And Dark Pictures: Switchback VR is very much a spiritual successor to the latter, sending players on a "nightmarish and horrifying" branching VR thrill ride through scenes that should be familiar to Dark Pictures fans.

"Survive the Ghost Ship and its distorted apparitions," Supermassive teases, "confront hideous demonic incarnations of persecuted 'witches'. Fight for your life against other-worldly vampires and escape the horrifying World's Fair Hotel's sadistic serial killer."

The Second Super Mario Bros. Movie Trailer Reveals Peach, DK, & Karts

1 year 5 months ago

Earlier today on a special Nintendo Direct presentation, the second trailer for the Super Mario Bros. Movie went above and beyond when it came to expectations. Based on the tease which came out yesterday that showed off a still image of inside Peach’s Castle, it was almost certain that she was going to show up today. Yet, much more than just that castle was shown off.

First off, the direct began with Shigeru Miyamoto talking about the popularity of the last trailer which led into Chris Meledandri introducing Anya Taylor-Joy. After Taylor-Joy talks about how excited she is for everyone to see Peach for the first time, it cuts back over Miyamoto. He talks about how he has been looking forward to her performance as Peach since she was cast.

Next up, Myamoto introduced the voice of DK in the Super Mario Movie, Seth Rogen. The Canadian actor talked about his love of the worlds created by Miyamoto. Rogen also mentioned that he even named his dog Zelda.

After cutting back to Miyamoto to talk about the other Nintendo-inspired pets in his neighborhood, they cut to the beginning of the new trailer.

The trailer begins with Mario psyching himself up by taking a deep breath as he enters a packed colosseum from a dark hallway. When the hero finally steps into the light onto a red metal beam, you can see banners all around the arena. Of course, Mario’s opponent on the other side is none other than Donkey Kong.

Once they charge the camera switches to a shot that’s a few feet below the platform Mario and DK are standing on. The red beams, ladders, and barrels are reminiscent of the classic Donkey Kong arcade game.
