Need For Speed Unbound Officially Revealed, Out This December On New-Gen Consoles And PC

1 year 6 months ago

EA has officially revealed Need For Speed Unbound, the first new Need For Speed game in three years, and it hits new-gen consoles and PC this December.

After leaking earlier this week, EA has released the official reveal trailer for Need For Speed and as leaks and rumors suggested, it's quite a drastic shift in style for the series. It features the slick realistic visuals fans of the series know quite well but this time, it's mixed with an almost anime-like animation style. It looks great, in my opinion, but it likely won't be for everybody.

Check out the Need For Speed Unbound reveal trailer for yourself below

As you can see, Unbound represents a pretty drastic departure for the series in terms of visuals but elsewhere, it looks like Need For Speed. There seems to be plenty of car customization, cops to run from, city streets to speed through, and if the reveal trailer's song by A$AP Rocky is any indication, a great soundtrack.

Only time will tell but fortunately, we don't have to wait too long because Need For Speed Unbound hits PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on December 2. As you might have noticed, the reveal trailer doesn't mention consoles from the previous generation, like the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, so you might need a current-gen machine to play the game.

Are you excited for Need For Speed Unbound? Let us know in the comments below!

Genshin Impact devs don't want to "create excessive anxiety" with more endgame content

1 year 6 months ago

Genshin Impact developer miHoYo has said it does not want to add further endgame content similar to the Spiral Abyss because of the "excessive anxiety" it could create for players.

Spiral Abyss is the only true endgame content for players at high Adventure Ranks. In a recent Gamespot interview, a miHoYo spokesperson was asked if there were plans to release more permanent endgame content in the "same vein".

"The Spiral Abyss is one of the most effective ways [for] players [to] test out their party composition and combat strength," miHoYo replied. "If we design another type of permanent endgame that is similar to the Spiral Abyss, it might end up creating excessive anxiety for our players - not everyone is interested in Musk Reef."

The Pokémon Company has released a new gameplay trailer for the forthcoming Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, with 14 minutes of footage.

The trailer follows four different Trainers as they explore the Paldean region, showing the variety of adventuring available.

Most significant is the game's Let's Go feature that allows partner Pokémon to be sent off to battle others alone in the world, or gather items, which should make grinding much smoother.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's campaign entangles Task Force 141 in the bloody War on Drugs

1 year 6 months ago

Activision has released its first gameplay trailer of the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which gives us our first glimpse of the first-person shooter's campaign.

The trailer largely confirms the rumours and leaks of the past few months which suggested the campaign would involve the global War on Drugs.

Task Force 141 is deployed in an unnamed South American country, as it seeks out a terrorist that appears to be allied with drug traffickers. Essentially, the story entangles the War on Terror with the War on Drugs.

Stadia fans trying hard to stop their controllers from becoming e-waste

Following last week's surprise announcement that Google would be shutting down Stadia in January, the platform's small but dedicated community have petitioned Google to allow the controller to work on other platforms wirelessly.

The Stadia controller currently works on other devices via a USB cable, but it also has wireless functionality in the form of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth that's firmware locked.

While owners wait for a response from Google, some have taken matters into their own hands with some quirky workarounds.

Moonbreaker's take on Warhammer is awkward, but I like it

1 year 6 months ago

The first thing that hits me about Moonbreaker, the very-different-from-Subnautica game by Unknown Worlds, is how rigid and awkward it feels. It's strange because turn-based combat games are something I'm really familiar with, but Moonbreaker takes some getting used to though, and some of that I don't like, and some of it I really, really do.

It stems from Moonbreaker being a miniatures game. A friend called it Warhammer without the licence and that's exactly what it is. You collect and paint the figurines you use in battle; figurines are the whole point, so it's not surprising they behave like them and don't move around like animated characters. They are frozen in whatever dramatic expression they've been given: cheering, charging, taking aim, whatever. And when they move, it's as if someone picked them up and plonked them down somewhere else. And when they attack, it's like a child twizzled them in an emulation of the real thing. The figurines are voiced - there's a lot of energy and character in the game - but there's no escaping you're playing an adaptation of a tabletop game.

But the camera feels rigid too, fixed on rails you'll struggle to pull it off. It won't let you spin around the battlefield, viewing the action from varying angles, which I'd really like to do - if only to admire the figurines I've painted. But I also want it for gameplay reasons, so I can see bunched stand-offs more clearly. When large figurines stand near smaller ones it can be hard to see what's going on. As it is, I can only nudge the camera's rotation slightly before it pings back to a fixed angle, and it doesn't help much.

Prodeus review – a fearsome hybrid of old and new FPS ideas

1 year 6 months ago

Every retro shooter straddles the line between classic and modern design, whether it's a new game built in an old engine like Ion Fury and Wrath, or a good old-fashioned murderfest that uses cutting edge tech like Amid Evil. But none walk that line as precisely as Bounding Box Software's Prodeus. This is an anachronistic high-wire act, synthesising old and new ideas in a way that is always exciting, occasionally inspired, and defies easy categorisation.

Even the base premise is wilfully elusive, although this is well in the spirit of the genre's foundational texts. You're an archetypal space marine trapped on a barren but mineral rich asteroid, where a cataclysm has resulted in an all-out war between two interdimensional factions – one representing order, and the other chaos. From your perspective, both sides are equally in your way, and will die by the hundreds, if not thousands, as you carve a path across the surface of the asteroid and beyond.

Prodeus' amalgamated personality is evident in its visual style, which mimics the 2.5D graphics of early id-tech and Build engine games then infuses it with modern lighting and visual effects. Terrain and environments are rendered in angular 3D, while objects and enemies are presented as chunky sprites (although there's an option to swap them for 3D models too). When you fire a rocket or shoot an explosive barrel, the resulting blast will illuminate the scene in a fiery orange glow, while environmental light sources glisten off gunmetal corridors and rain-slicked terrain.

Wild Hearts Gameplay Trailer Showcases Karakuri and Co-op

1 year 6 months ago

wild hearts

The official YouTube account for Wild Hearts has uploaded a video showcasing over seven minutes of gameplay. It focuses on the hunt for Kingtusk, which is a large and aggressive boar-like Kemono. Plenty of karakuri appear in the video to give a feel for how players can use them to move around the map and take down enemies.

You can watch the gameplay video here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbJPkCD9ZTs

Though the protagonist initially fails to take down the Kingtusk, working together with another player turns things around. Comments on the video are mostly positive, with many praising the karakuri and the fact that a game other than Monster Hunter is breaking into the…monster hunting genre.

Wild Hearts is a monster hunting game that players can tackle either alone or in co-op. It is a collaborative effort between EA and Koei Tecmo. In Wild Hearts, you hunt Kemono, which make the land of Azuma a dangerous place to live in for humans. Players can use the ‘Seed of Invention’ to construct weapons and tools on the fly. The trailer showed off how you could build small items such as swords, or large items such as catapults.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Trailer Introduces the Paldean Journey

1 year 6 months ago

Pokemon Scarlet Violet

Nintendo debuted a new trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, as the game's November 18th release date draws closer. The new trailer highlights the "Paldean Journey" of four particular player-controlled trainers, showing off slices of the game in action.

Check out the extended gameplay trailer below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YEEDqke-D0

Through the trainers' individual journeys, the trailer focuses on Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's unique features. A major new addition emphasized encounters with Terastallizing, a unique Paldean phenomenon. Terastallizing a Pokemon causes it to take on a crystalline form, enhancing the moves that match its Tera type. There are 18 different Tera types, and any Pokemon can have any one of them, adding variation even between Pokemon of the same species. Tera Pokemon can be encountered in the wild and captured, so players can look out for unusual or rare type/Tera type combinations. In the cooperative Tera Raid battles, players will have chances to capture Pokemon with rare Tera types, like a Chansey with a Ghost Tera type. Terastallized Pokemon can also use a new move called Tera Blast, an attack that uses the Tera type of the Pokemon that's Terastallized.

One Piece Odyssey Brings Alabasta and Lots of Emotions Back With New Trailer

1 year 6 months ago

One Piece Odyssey certainly looks impressive, but since it features a new story, its trailers haven’t yet touched us much on an emotional level… until now.

The new trailer revealed today shows how our heroes end up visiting a version of Alabasta made from their memories, and like everything including Alabasta and Vivi, things get emotional really quickly.

While this is not a retelling of the Alabasta Arc, it definitely looks like it’s going to play with the fans’ heartstrings. We even get to see the good old Going Merry.

That being said, two years have passed and the members of the crew have changed since the Alabasta Arc, so, while the world created by their memories appears the same, the events and adventures awaiting us will tell a different story.

You can check out the trailer below, and if you’re a One Piece fan, I challenge you not to tear up at least a bit.

One Piece Odyssey will launch for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on January 13, 2023.

Werewolf by Night Review – A Special Presentation of Terrifying Proportions

1 year 6 months ago

Marvel is expanding itself even further into the spooky and bizarre corner of the MCU with Marvel Studios’ Special Presentation: Werewolf by Night, but is the special worth checking out when it releases this weekend on Disney+? I mean, this special is unlike anything the MCU has ever done before, so that may be a bit offputting. Nonetheless, I am here to tell you that this is a tremendous change of pace for the MCU and that I can’t wait to see the discourse that emerges in the coming weeks.

Werewolf by Night is about a group of monster hunters who meet one night to hunt a monster in order to obtain a powerful relic. However, the group might be in for more than they bargained for when the real monster reveals itself.

How Long Do Queues Take in Overwatch 2? Answered

1 year 6 months ago

Overwatch 2 has launched, but it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for the Hero-based shooter, with one of the largest sticking points currently affecting players being overly long queue times. This can pose a problem if you’re looking to play Overwatch 2 with a limited timeframe, so read on to learn how long queue times are in Overwatch 2.

How Long Are Overwatch 2 Login Queues?

If everything works the way it should, players can expect to reach Overwatch 2’s main menu in about ten to fifteen minutes, but server issues can extend that time considerably. The large influx of players notwithstanding, Overwatch 2’s servers are also being subjected to DDoS attacks that are causing players to get booted from the queue at random intervals.

If this happens to you, there isn’t much for it other than to keep trying until you’re able to get in. It is worth noting that the queues are much more stable (and much faster) during off-peak hours, which may be the best route to take if you don’t want to deal with an extended wait.

It’s worth noting that the servers are just getting hammered at the moment, and so there’s a number of login issues players are encountering when trying to login. “Player is in a different version” error, “time out communicating with Battle.net Services,” and how to fix error code BC-153 in Overwatch 2 are just a handful of the problems that players are facing.

Black Clover Anime Movie Gets Teaser Trailer Revealing Title, 2023 Release Date

1 year 6 months ago

The Black Clover anime film has received a teaser trailer unveiling its official title and a firm release date in the earlier half of next year.

Streamed via the official Netflix Anime YouTube channel on Oct. 6, the trailer is a brief but impressive look at what the film will offer to fans. Titled Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, the animated movie will cover an original story based around what appears to be the original Wizard King and his magic blade. Asta will also be involved in the film’s story in some way, though it’s still unclear how or why.

The trailer kicks off with a brief recap of the general plot of the series. Born without the ability to use magic in a world where magic is a key part of society, Asta has been forced to overcome this disadvantage with perseverance and a will to never give up. This pays off though, as he gains the ability to wield a power that can stand up to most any magic thrown at him when used right. He then proclaims that this is the story of how he’ll become the Wizard King no matter what stands in his way.

Things then switch over to bits and pieces from the original story the film weaves. A man adorned in keys that begin to float through some magic force proclaims that this is the day he will change the kingdom. Which kingdom he’s talking about though, and how he aims to change it, is left a mystery.

All the same, one key feature is made as prominent as possible. Above this man’s head, a massive glowing sword made of some sort of magic stone becomes brighter and brighter, gaining power before its light envelopes the whole screen.

Overwatch 2: Blizzard Removing SMS Protect Functionality For A Lot Of Players

1 year 6 months ago

Overwatch 2 SMS Protect Removed

Since the launch of Overwatch 2 earlier this week, the game has struggled in a number of ways. Some players are excited about the numbered sequel while others wonder why this wasn't just a big update for the original Overwatch, which is no longer accessible. Regardless, actually playing Overwatch 2 has been its own challenge due to at least two DDoS attacks Blizzard has weathered, making it tough to actually queue into the game and access it beyond the eternal loading screen.

On top of that, some players have found themselves unable to play once logged in due to the game's SMS Protect system, which requires you to give Blizzard a "unique" phone number for authentication purposes. The only problem is that pre-paid phones, which make up not just the boxed phones in stores like Walmart but major phone service providers like Metro PCS and Cricket, won't work with this feature. So if your phone number is attached to a pre-paid phone, you won't be able to play.

Many players have voiced their concern and disappointment in such a system existing in a game they were excited to play, and it seems Blizzard is ready to do away with it for a large portion of the Overwatch audience.

Battlefield 2042 finally gets its first live service event, The Liquidators

1 year 6 months ago

When EA released Battlefield 2042 almost 11 months ago, the promise of a live service Battlefield game filled brim with a constant stream of content updates was one of the key selling points.

In fact, the live service model was supposed to be used as a substitute for the traditional story campaign, where in-game events would fill in the lore of the new climate-change ridden world.

But all of that was postponed thanks to dire state of the game at launch. Now almost a year since launch and two seasons later, we finally have our first in-season event and new game mode.

The game's failure led to severe financial issues and the exit of the company's boss Bo Andersson. Wesley Yin-Poole produced a full-length feature on the company's collapse in 2019 which I recommend you give a thorough read if you want the full context.

Are CD Projekt's Cyberpunk and Witcher plans too ambitious?

1 year 6 months ago

This week on the Eurogamer Newscast we're discussing the avalance of announcements to come from CD Projekt Red, maker of The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077.

Taking a leaf out of Ubisoft's recent playbook - when it lay the entirety of its Assassin's Creed plans on the table - CD Projekt Red has done similar, discussing projects which we'll see release across the whole of the next decade. There's going to be a new trilogy of new Witcher games, a Cyberpunk sequel, a new IP and various other spin-offs - though there was no word on Cyberpunk's standalone multiplayer portion, and still no firm date for The Witcher 3's long-awaited current-gen console update.

With questions still to answer about what we'd known was coming, how likely is it we'll see any of these fresh projects soon? And if not, why announce them now? Tom Phillips, Ed Nightingale, Victoria Kennedy and Ishraq Subhan share their thoughts.

final fantasy assassin's creed magic gathering

Hasbro has announced that Final Fantasy and Assassin's Creed cards will appear in Magic: The Gathering. Players can expect them some time in 2024. This news came out during Hasbro’s Investor Day, and they will be part of the Universes Beyond Initiative. [Thanks, IGN!]

There are no details about what characters will appear from the series, but Cynthia Williams (Wizards of the Coast president) has commented that the releases would appear “from 2024.” Williams has not mentioned if the Final Fantasy and Assassin’s Creed cards would be individual cards available through Secret Lair drops, or pre-made decks.

During the announcement, Williams commented that 2022 would be the 35th anniversary of Final Fantasy and the 15th anniversary of Assassin’s Creed. Both franchises are still releasing games, with Final Fantasy XVI set to come out in Summer 2023. Meanwhile, Ubisoft announced three upcoming Assassin’s Creed games during the Ubisoft Forward in September 2022.

Report: Star Ocean Dev Tri-Ace Takes Major Fiscal Losses

1 year 6 months ago

tri-Ace

A report in the Japanese industry news outlet Gamebiz suggests that tri-Ace, developer of the Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile series, is having financial difficulties. The story is based on tri-Ace's public financial report for the fiscal year ending in June 2022. [Thanks, GSK!]

In essence, the disclosures show that despite turning an operating profit of more than 171 million yen (about $1.18 million USD), project cancellations, development delays, and a lack of new work coming in resulted in an overall loss of more than 684 million yen (about $4.73 million USD). Sales also amounted to about 1.25 billion yen (about $8.64 million USD), though this figure is down 42% from the previous year. The Gamebiz report suggested that tri-Ace is currently insolvent, or unable to pay off outstanding loans.

Though not specified in the Gamebiz report, one potential source of tri-Ace's financial woes could be the loss of Star Ocean: Anamnesis, its mobile RPG. Square Enix shut the game down overseas in 2019, and in Japan in June 2021. Prior to that, its only notable credited projects before the upcoming Star Ocean: The Divine Force were the 2017 remaster of Star Ocean: The Last Hope and the 2018 remaster of Resonance of Fate. It is not involved in the development of this year's Valkyrie Elysium, which was developed by Soleil.

A Terrific Shape-Shifting Horror Sequel Taps Into Your Deepest Fears on Streaming

1 year 6 months ago

Autumn is finally upon us, and while that usually means chilly weather, runny noses, and shorter nights, it also means pumpkin carving, spooky costumes, and our favorite: scary movies! If you’re in the mood for a night in, curled up next to your bestie, while you sip pumpkin spice lattes and watch the best scariest films that Hollywood cinema has to offer, we may have the perfect flick to keep you up tonight. Thing is, don’t just take our word for it, as this specific film is dominating streaming at the moment.

Yes, at the time of writing, 2019’s It: Chapter Two has floated up from between the drainage grates and has managed to secure a sixth spot on HBO’s global Top 10 most-watched films beating out much more modern movies like Sing 2 and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, per FlixPatrol.

For the unaware, this filmic adaptation of Stephen King’s beloved best-selling novel is directed by Andy Muschietti and pits a gang of young misfits (aka the Losers’ Club) against a fiendish, shape-shifting monster that exploits its victim’s personal fears. You’ve probably heard of it, right? Yep, indeed, it’s the one and only, Pennywise the Clown.
