Blizzard President Explains Why No One Can Play Overwatch 2 Right Now

1 year 6 months ago

Today should be a massive day for Overwatch fans as Overwatch 2 has finally released its free-to-play PvP half for everyone. However, no one can currently actually get the game to work. While normally this could be chalked up to servers being overloaded, there is something far more sinister at work that is preventing people from getting to play the game.

A tweet from Blizzard Entertainment president Mike Ybarra says that “unfortunately we are experiencing a mass DDoS attack on our servers. Teams are working hard to mitigate/manage. This is causing a lot of drop/connection issues.”

Overwatch 2 Review – Some of the Old, Some of the New

1 year 6 months ago

Overwatch 2 on PC

Real talk: my feelings and thoughts on Overwatch 2 have definitely been a bit of a rollercoaster ride since the initial beta with Sojourn. Things started out pretty positive as I’d just been glad to be back on the Overwatch hype train again, then that hype took a nosedive with the Junker Queen beta when I realized how much shorter the time-to-kill was. Look, it’s no secret that I’m awful at competitive shooters, and dying within seconds always feels bad especially when you can’t even react.

Having spent a lot more time with the game over the past couple weeks during the review period, and having gone back to Overwatch 1 in that time as well, my overall feelings on the game have taken yet another u-turn. What I’m trying to say is that as a lapsed Overwatch player who sunk hundreds of hours into Competitive mode before finally deciding that game had run its course, this has been a confusing journey, but I’ll do my best to articulate everything that Overwatch 2 got right and wrong in this review.

The biggest foundational change made in Overwatch 2 is the shift to 5v5 from 6v6 matchups. And not only that, but we’re also taking a tank out of the equation. The impact that this has had on the way the game plays and feels is immediate; fights go by much quicker as once you take out a tank, that encounter is usually over.

Overwatch 2 review-in-progress: tonnes of fun marred by context and expectations

1 year 6 months ago

Put a screenshot of Overwatch 2 next to a screenshot of Overwatch 1, and you'd be hard-pressed to spot any difference. Both display a vast chaotic ballet, in which two teams composed of some of the most well-realised characters in hero shooters wage war until one team emerges triumphant. Just like its predecessor, Overwatch 2 is one of the most delicately crafted sensory onslaughts I've experienced in a game.

Guiding my old favourite heroes through venerable maps like King's Row and Route 66, it's like I never left. In many ways, it feels like I've simply been given a reason to play Overwatch 1 again. Is that enough for a sequel? Is it enough to justify the incredibly confusing, lengthy, and oft-botched process of trying to make Overwatch feel relevant again? I'm not certain it is. But perhaps it should be.

Overwatch 2 Hit By DDoS Attacks on Launch Day

1 year 6 months ago

Update: Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller has revealed that, while the team works on server issues, the game has now suffered a second DDoS attack on its launch day.

"We’re steadily making progress on server issues and stability, as well as working through a second DDoS attack," Keller wrote. "We’re all hands on deck and will continue to work throughout the night. Thank you for your patience - we’ll share more info as it becomes available."

At time of writing, I've been able to access the game for the first time in around 12 hours, so service may be resuming.

If you're struggling to find a match in Overwatch 2, Blizzard shared that it is currently under a mass distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, preventing successful matchmaking.

Blizzard president Mike Ybarra shared that the Overwatch 2 servers are under a mass DDoS attack and that the teams are working to mitigate the damage.

"We're steadily making progress on server issues and stability, as well as working through a second DDoS attack," Keller wrote. "We're all hands on deck and will continue to work throughout the night. Thank you for your patience - we'll share more info as it becomes available."

FIFA 23 TOTW 3 Predictions

1 year 6 months ago

Team of the Week has become a fixture within Ultimate Team, and this year is no different. With another slate of matches played and a star-studded side around the corner, these our some of our FIFA 23 TOTW 3 predictions.

How to Get TOTW Players in FIFA 23

As with many Ultimate Team card promotions, players are able to acquire them through various means. Here are the ways in which you can do so:

Acquiring TOTW Players in FIFA 23

  1. Chance your luck by purchasing Packs.

A tale as old as time—though, this wouldn’t be our first choice.

  2. Buy them through the Transfer Market.

These cards will be around long after their TOTW version is announced. At that point, you’ll have to decide whether or not it’s a worthy investment.

  3. Objective-Based Challenges.

This isn’t a certainty, but there’s always a chance FIFA make certain players available through season objectives—similar to how they’ve deployed a couple of OTW cards.

Minecraft Devs Reveal a Cute Ancient Mob as First Candidate for Popular Vote

1 year 6 months ago

Today Mojang announced the first candidate that will participate to the popular mob vote at Minecraft Live 2022.

The mob is defined as an ancient one that was once part of the overworld’s ecosystem but went extinct. Yet, players could now find its eggs to bring it back. The name is “Sniffer” and it can help us grow some exclusive decorative plants.

As you can see in the video below, it looks like a giant turtle with foliage on its shell (if it even is an actual shell) and a giant nose fitting its name.

You can check out the trailer below. Two more candidates are likely to be announced over the next few days ahead of the vote which will begin on October 14.

Minecraft Live will air on October 15 at noon EDT, 9:00 am PDT, 5:00 pm BST, or 6:00 pm CEST depending on where you live.

Minecraft is currently available for basically everything with a chip, including PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. There probably are more devices, but I’ve lost track of what is active.

Hermen Hulst Talks PlayStation's Future: More Live Service, More PC, More New Franchises

1 year 6 months ago

For a while now, the PlayStation brand has been evolving. No longer simply meaning the console that sits under your television, the word "PlayStation" now applies to movies, television shows, or even the brand's console exclusive games appearing on PC.

Now, speaking to a handful of media outlets, Head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst has outlined a bit more of what's in store for PlayStation's expanding future.

One clear pillar of PlayStation's business strategy moving forward is live service games, as previously proven by Sony's $3.7 billion acquisition of Bungie. According to Hulst, Bungie's role in the PlayStation family will partially be to serve as an example of how to handle the live service model.

“I've been a long-time admirer of Bungie,” the executive told GQ. “They speak our language and so they've been doing this for a decade since the original release of Destiny. So the battle scars that they have earned, coupled with their absolute transparency means I can’t think of a better partner to have in that space.”

There are certain games on Battle.net that require you to enter your phone number to play, including Overwatch 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Marvel Snap’s Strongest Card Finally Gets Nerfed

1 year 6 months ago

If you ask any Marvel Snap player what the strongest card in the game is, most of them will likely point to Magik. At 5-cost, 3-power, she doesn’t seem particularly game-breaking. However, her ability allows her to change any location to Limbo, which extends the game by one turn.

Since Marvel Snap matches only go for six turns, adding a surprise turn 7 on turn 6 can really catch your opponent off-guard, allowing you to see their final play and react accordingly. With the latest patch, Magik has finally gotten nerfed, as has Mr. Negative, who already got hit in the last patch.

Destiny 2’s Game-Breaking Hunter Exotic Armor Gets Disabled Till Mid-October

1 year 6 months ago

Disabling items in Destiny 2 shouldn’t be a surprise anymore, as with a new season comes new bugs and glitches in the game. The Exotic Fusion Rifle, Telesto, is notorious for being disabled multiple times for breaking the game in some shape or form. Recently, a brand new Hunter Exotic armor piece, Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk, was disabled for breaking the game as well. Finally, the official Bungie Help Twitter page has released a statement regarding a fix date:

Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk has an ability that allows the user to gain increased damage and class ability regeneration after being invisible. It’s a really unique Exotic on paper, but in practice it’s a completely different case. Its secondary ability, allowed other players to also have increased class ability regeneration as well. In this case, Loreley Titans, for example, could effectively keep their sunspot going forever, allowing them to essentially never die. Bungie promptly disabled this exotic back in week three of the season, and it will presumably continue to stay disabled until pushing week nine of the season.

Does Wild Hearts Have Cross Play & Cross Save? Answered

1 year 6 months ago

Wild Hearts is the newest title in the EA Originals line, and it serves as a collaboration between EA and Koei Tecmo. A fantasy adventure game set in medieval Japan, this new Omega Force-developed co-op game will be very online-focused, which raises questions as to whether it will offer cross-play. Here’s what we know about whether Wild Hearts has cross-play and cross-saves.

Cross Play & Cross Save in Wild Hearts Explained

Wild Hearts will have cross-play features. The game will release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and both companies are working to ensure that there are no hurdles to jump through when connecting to other platforms. Players will be able to enjoy the adventure and hunt monsters with friends, no matter what system each player chooses to play the game on.

All that said, it’s unconfirmed if Wild Hearts will have cross-save functionality. As the game was only just announced, there’s not a lot of information currently available for it. With its official gameplay reveal coming on Oct. 5, we should learn more information there and, possibly, receive a straight answer.

That’s all we know on whether Wild Hearts has cross-play and cross-saves. While you wait for the game’s Feb. 17 release, re-familiarize yourselves with their recent output by checking out Twinfinite’s review of their newest game, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes.

Who Is Billy Butcherson in Hocus Pocus 2?

1 year 6 months ago

The new Hocus Pocus movie features several familiar faces, including Doug Jones as Billy Butcherson. Although he’s dead in the film, his character still has an impact on the story. Here’s everything you need to know about who Billy Butcherson is in Hocus Pocus 2.

Warning: Spoilers for Hocus Pocus 2 will follow.

Billy Butcherson in Hocus Pocus 2 Explained

Billy Butcherson is a normal Salem resident living in the time right before the Sanderson Sisters became witches. Winifred takes a liking to him, and they even kiss once, but he hates witches as much as anyone else in Salem and never joins the sisters. He is raised from the dead and buried again in the original Hocus Pocus, so he pops right out of the ground when witch fan Gilbert starts to dig up his grave.

Gilbert convinces Billy to help him find the ingredients for a spell by lying to the undead man about the purpose of the spell. Billy follows Gilbert around Salem collecting ingredients, including a “petrified spider” that he won from a carnival game. Unfortunately for Billy, one of the ingredients is his head, and Gilbert yanks it off unceremoniously. The curse animating his corpse lifts at the and of the movie allowing him to rest in peace finally.

Who Are Becca and Izzy in Hocus Pocus 2? Answered

1 year 6 months ago

Hocus Pocus 2 is a sequel to a beloved horror movie, and it’s finally out. Disney introduces new characters like teens Becca and Izzy, who may have a connection to the magical world. Here’s everything you need to know on who Becca and Izzy are in Hocus Pocus 2.

Warning: Spoilers for Hocus Pocus 2 will follow.

Becca and Izzy in Hocus Pocus 2 Explained

While the Sanderson sisters are featured here, Becca and Izzy are the main protagonists of Hocus Pocus 2. The heroines were tricked by magic shop owner Gilbert into lighting a black flame candle and bringing back the famous coven. Thanks to their friendship with Gilbert, they learned a lot about magic growing up and survived long enough to defeat the Sandersons. The witches turning to dust like Peter Parker was probably intentional given Disney’s ownership of Marvel.

The modern technology mixing with magic in the movie added humor and contributed to the story. Most fans wouldn’t have predicted a Roomba coming to the rescue of the witches by vacuuming up some salt (salt doesn’t mix with magic), or the witches consuming various hygiene products at Walgreens.

That’s all we have on who Becca and Izzy are in Hocus Pocus 2. Check out some of our magical content like our Hocus Pocus 2 review and the latest updates on a potential third Hocus Pocus movie in production.

How to Fix “Player Is in a Different Version” Error in Overwatch 2

1 year 6 months ago

Overwatch 2 has just launched on PC and consoles, and it’s certainly not without its fair share of bugs and server issues. Even if you were lucky to get into the game, you might’ve encountered various errors along the way. So if you’re getting the “Player is in a different version” error in Overwatch 2, here’s what you need to do.

Overwatch 2 “Player Is in a Different Version” Error Explained

When you try to invite a friend to a game, you may encounter an error pop-up in Overwatch 2 that says “Player is in a different version”, and you won’t be able to actually get into a group with them. What this means is that while your friend might be online, they may not have updated their game to the latest version just yet.

To fix this issue, you simply need to update your game. Here’s how to do that:

  • On PC, in the Battle.net client, click on the gear icon next to the Play button and check for updates.
  • On Switch, press the + button, select Software Update, and update the game via the internet.
  • On PlayStation, press the Options button and check for updates.
  • On Xbox, go to the My Games and Apps menu, select Manage, and choose the Updates option.

Once your game is updated, you should be able to play with your friends who also have Overwatch 2 installed and updated as well.

How to Play With Friends When You Have the “Different Version” Error

If you and your friend have already updated the game but you’re still getting this error, you can still invite them to your group through a workaround.

How to Get into Overwatch 2 Servers

1 year 6 months ago

Overwatch 2 is finally out on consoles and PC, but just because you’ve got it installed and ready to go doesn’t necessarily mean you’d be able to get in immediately. With that in mind, here’s how to get into the Overwatch 2 servers.

Getting Into Overwatch 2 Servers

Since the game has just launched, the servers are pretty congested at the moment, and you’ll likely have to wait in queue for a while before you’re able to get in. Generally, once you boot up the game, just wait for your turn in queue, and the game will eventually look for a game server to put you into. Once it finds a server, you’ll get in, and you’re all good to go.

However, considering that there have been reports of a DDoS attack and errors popping up for users who used the Account Merge feature, things might not be so easy.

Unexpected Server Error Fix

If you’re running into the Unexpected Server Error pop-up, your best bet is to simply quit out of the game, then boot it up again and wait.

There’s no fast fix for this aside from just trying again, and when we encountered this error, it took about two hours of just waiting on the start screen to finally get in.

Switch to Asia Servers

If you’re still having trouble getting into the game, it may be worth switching over to the Asia servers to see if you can get in faster. On the Battle.net client, change your region to Asia, as the Americas servers might be a bit more congested.

7 Years Later, Life Is Strange Is Still Storytelling at its Finest

1 year 6 months ago

When I began the journey of Life Is Strange during its initial launch in 2015, I was utterly impressed by the unique portrayal of characters and supernatural elements. So, now that I’ve gotten the chance to check out the Arcadia Bay Collection on the Nintendo Switch, my perspective of the game has changed since I got to experience the narrative as a whole with Max Caulfield and Chloe Price’s storylines. Each character is different in their own way, yet playing these installments side-by-side shows many similarities I previously overlooked.

In Life Is Strange, you’ll take control of Max, a lonely photographer who recently moved back to Arcadia Bay (a small city in Oregon.) During this time, you can explore Blackwell Academy and talk with fellow students around the campus, which can alter your future based on the choices you make along the way.

Kiriko’s base design is alright, but nothing to really write home about. Her Twitch Drops-exclusive skin, however, is absolutely adorable. It’s basically a palette swap of her Athleisure skin, but without the cheesy looking floral patterns.

The sky blue and white combo of her outfit looks great, and really helps to embody the modern side of her.

Can Rika Orimoto Defeat Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen? Explained

1 year 6 months ago

At this point, there’s little doubt that Sukuna is the big bad to beat in Jujutsu Kaisen. Malevolent to a fault and host to more than enough power to carry out whichever actions he wishes, the King of Curses is an insurmountable threat that the protagonists of the show will have to destroy by any means necessary. Fortunately, a few different options have presented themselves thus far, and if you’ve seen Jujutsu Kaisen 0, you’re probably wondering: Can Rika Orimoto defeat Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen?

Well, for better or worse, we’ve got an answer for you. Before going any further though, it’s worth mentioning that we’ll be pulling information from every available part of the wider series for this explainer. To that end, be warned that there are *Minor Spoilers Ahead.*

Could Rika Orimoto Beat Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen? Answered

As it stands, Rika Orimoto would likely be a good match for Sukuna if they were to fight in Jujutsu Kaisen.

This is due to a few different factors, with the first being that she’s directly powered and enhanced as a Curse by Okkotsu Yuta. This is fortunate, as he is host to Cursed Energy on par with Satoru Gojo’s and could feasibly have more than enough to match Sukuna’s monstrous reserves.

Likewise, having Yuta at her side is a given should a conflict arise between herself and Sukuna. This is because Yuta is the reason she became a Curse in the first place, and she would be tied to Yuta indefinitely if she were to be wherever Sukuna is.

Slime Rancher 2 is glorious and ghastly and that's what's fascinating about it

1 year 6 months ago

A few weeks back a friend recommended Jonathan Crary's 24/7, a short, vital book I have just finished reading. I suspect a lot of it went over my head, but the basics are pretty simple. Crary, who is a professor of modern art and theory at Columbia, makes the case that the contemporary world's focus on an endless 24/7 treadmill of consumption and toil has made sleep the true enemy of capitalism. Sleep is the last place where you cannot be sold stuff, or made to work, and so capitalism must fight sleep, and it will probably be a fight to the death.

Crary takes this argument in a number of fascinating, alarming ways. What he doesn't mention - and I understand this, I guess - is a great-uncle of mine who used to own a turkey farm, and had heard that turkeys were so stupid that when the lights went off they thought the day was over. He rigged up a system in his turkey farm, a farm which clearly should have been shut down by the authorities, in which the lights continually went on and off, the theory being that the turkeys would age by a day each time this happened, and would be ready for market sooner. I don't need to add anything at this point, but I will: my great uncle was not a very nice man and should not be interpreted as the hero of this story.

This error should be pretty self-explanatory, but essentially, if you’re seeing this error when trying to bind your phone number to your Battle.net account, it means that your phone number has either already been bound to a separate account, or it’s not a valid number.

When this happens, you’ll need to check if you may have bound the number to another account, or check if you’re on a pre-paid plan.

With Blizzard announcing the SMS Protect feature, a number of players have reported being unable to register their numbers if they’re using a pre-paid SIM card or phone plan, whereas those using contracted lines haven’t had any issue.

If neither of the above applies to you, you may have to contact Blizzard’s customer support to get to the bottom of the issue and get your number bound to the account properly.

That’s all you need to know about how to fix the “Phone number already in use” error in Overwatch 2. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game, including how to get the Watchpoint Pack working, how the Battle Pass works, as well as our picks for the best skins in the game.

1 year 6 months ago

Last month, Rachel and I made the long pilgrammage to Seattle in order to attend PAX West 2022. While we were there we ran around the show floor with a bag full of loose camera equipment, stopping frequently to enthuse about cool video games we'd discovered or to interview someone interesting. At the time, all of these videos were only accessible to our premium supporters. However, as 30 days have passed since we originally shared them, we're now making them free for everyone to enjoy. Surprise!

From an interview with the voice cast of Team Fortress 2 to a comprehensive tour of the show floor, there's something for everyone in this bundle of audio-visual delights. Scroll down to see what we got up to, and remember, if you like what you see please do consider funding content like this via our supporters programme. It truly means an awful lot.
