With this app in play, users will now be able to see all of the channel's offerings in Ultra HD thanks to its 4K HDR playback support (the PlayStation 4 version of the app was limited to 1080p).

EU votes to adopt single charging cable for portable games consoles, tablets, phones

1 year 5 months ago

The European Union has voted to adopt a single charger design for use across all portable games consoles, smartphones, tablets and laptops sold in the region.

Technology manufacturers will now be required to use USB-C charging ports in all smartphones and tablets sold in the region from 2024, and in laptops from 2026. Mice, keyboards, headphones are also included.

As previously reported, the UK decided to opt out out of being included in this initiative when it was first proposed, despite its aims to cut electronic waste and generally make things a bit easier for those with a drawer full of random Lightning cables, micro-USB and mini-USB wires. Thanks Brexit!

Destiny 2 Witch Queen: How to Fix Weasel Error (Cat, Newt, Olive, Honeydew)

1 year 5 months ago

Destiny 2’s Season of Plunder is here, but as is common among major launches, players are reporting error codes that are preventing them from getting involved. Here’s how to fix the error codes Weasel, Cat, Newt, Olive, Honeydew & other similar codes, and what it means in Destiny 2: Beyond Light.

What Do Error Codes Weasel, Cat, Newt, Olive, Honeydew Mean in Destiny 2: Witch Queen?

The launch of Destiny 2’s various expansions and seasons are highly anticipated and that means any time one arrives, there’s going to be a lot of people trying it out all at once. As you can imagine, that puts the servers under a lot of strain.

This is exactly what’s causing the Weasel, Cat, Newt, Olive, Honeydew, error codes. The latest major update is bringing back a ton of new players and it’s causing the game to crash or lose connection to the server.

If your game crashes and you see any of these error codes then don’t panic — it’s a crash that’s typical of a server overload in Destiny 2.

This often happens whenever there’s a major new expansion, season or other update coming to the game that encourages players to return to their Guardian and get grinding out exotics in Raids, Strikes and other public events.

How to Fix Destiny 2 Error Codes Weasel, Cat, Newt, Olive & Honeydew

So how to fix the issue? In short, there’s nothing you can do other than wait it out and keep retrying.

The best place to keep track of what’s going on is the Bungie Help Twitter account which will post server status updates.

Is Grounded Coming to PS4 & Nintendo Switch? Answered

1 year 5 months ago

Obsidian Entertainment’s latest game is here, and sees players exploring the perilous world of the back yard… when you’re shrunk down to the size of an ant. You’ll have to fend off big spiders, craft to survive, and of course, avoid giant spiders at all costs. While we already know the game is coming to Xbox One and PC, some players may be wondering ‘is Grounded coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch?

Grounded PS4 & Switch Ports? Everything You Need to Know

At this moment in time, Grounded will only be available to play on Xbox One and PC. The game has been in early access since it initially launched in 2020, but Grounded received its 1.0 update and official release on Xbox consoles and PC in September 2022.

With Grounded having only just left early access on Xbox consoles and PC, there’s a good chance that the development team will continue to focus on post-launch support, addressing bugs and adding more content for players to explore in the great expanses of the game’s back garden setting.

It’s also worth noting that Obsidian Entertainment was acquired in 2018 by Microsoft, adding it to the family of Microsoft Game Studios developers. As such, Obsidian Entertainment is now a first-party studio, and will only release its games for Microsoft platforms like Xbox One and PC.

Whether this changes in the future remains to be seen, but with Sony offering up a stellar arsenal of exclusives for the PS4, it’s unlikely Microsoft will want to share any of its own first-party titles with other platforms, in the hope it’ll attract new players to the Xbox Series X|S and/or PC.

Airborne survival game Forever Skies sets you on a course to find a cure for humanity in its toxic cloud sea

1 year 5 months ago

Somewhere at the edges of the galaxy in No Man's Sky lies a large, verdant planet with an abandoned, but functioning, starter ship on it. I left it there in 2016 after discovering a larger ship out in the wilds, but it's a decision that still haunts me to this very day. You see, I was so taken with my new set of wings that I failed to notice it didn't have a functioning hyperdrive attached, which is needed to punch through the atmosphere to visit another solar system. It also turned out that this particular planet didn't have any of the necessary resources to craft a new one either, leaving my only form of escape back in my tiny little starter ship – which, of course, was now nowhere to be seen. I spent hours looking for that little ship, but the planet was so vast that I never saw it again.

Upcoming aerial survival game Forever Skies doesn't have lots of large planets to lose your only means of transportation in, thankfully. In its Steam Next Fest demo at least, the only things I was able to land my makeshift aircraft on were tiny, rusty platforms perched atop decaying skyscrapers on an Earth ruined by disease and an ecological apocalypse. But that fear of getting stranded somewhere I shouldn't be has never left me, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't just a teensy bit scared of jumping down from my ship and finding I wasn't able to get back up to it again.

SuperGroupies to Release Secret of Mana Accessories

1 year 5 months ago

secret of mana supergroupies header

SuperGroupies has opened up pre-orders for Secret of Mana-themed accessories. Pre-orders close on October 24, 2022. In total, there are three items that are part of this collaboration: a bag, a watch, and a wallet. The watch will come out in late April 2023, while the bag and wallet will come out in mid-February 2023. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

The watch’s face has a Tree of Mana design on it. There is a see-through display near where the 12 is, and it swaps through the Mana Spirits every day. It will cycle through Wisp, Salamander, Gnome, Jinn, Shade, Luna, Undine, and Dryad. As well, the numbers for the hours are outside of the design, which means that you get a fairly clear look at the Tree of Mana. The watch costs 25,300 JPY, which is approximately $175.10.

[gallery ids="936772,936773,936774" link="file"]

While the watch’s band uses authentic leather, the bag is made of synthetic leather. It is “both fashionable and functional,” according to SuperGroupies’s website. There is a Flammie design on the bag. While the outside of the bag is fairly discreet, the inside pockets have Secret of Mana-themed patterns. The side pockets depict the Mana Spirits, while the interior looks like the Mana Tree, or the cover of the original game.. The bag costs 17,600 JPY, which is around $121.80.

Intel Arc A770 and A750 review: welcome player three

1 year 5 months ago

Intel's first enthusiast-grade graphics cards are here - and on the eve of AMD and Nvidia's transition to a new generation, Team Blue has actually done well. The $289 Arc A750 and $329/$349 Arc A770 offer surprisingly strong 1080p performance, a unique mix of features and aggressive pricing that makes them well worth considering for a mid-range PC - for most gamers, anyway.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, though. There's loads to cover here and time is short, so let's take a quick overview of the hardware, cover the software features we're most interested in and then get into the meat of this review: gaming benchmarks.

We've got a brand new GPU test suite for late 2022, with a tranche of complete newcomers joining a remixed assortment of Digital Foundry favourites covering every major engine. It's a forward-looking test suite, with titles using modern APIs like DirectX 12 and Vulkan, which should give Intel a chance to demonstrate its strengths. Of course, we'll also be taking a look at performance in some classic 'banana skin' DX11 titles in our video review, where we expect Intel's first-generation Arc GPUs to have slightly more difficulty.

Bayonetta voice now Jennifer Hale in upcoming third game

1 year 5 months ago

Unlike previous releases in the series, Bayonetta 3's titular Umbra Witch will not be voiced by Hellena Taylor.

The role has instead gone to Jennifer Hale, who has voiced characters such as Commander Shephard in Mass Effect and Naomi Hunter in the Metal Gear Solid series, to name but a few.

In an interview with Game Informer, which features Bayonetta 3 as its cover this issue, director Yusuke Miyata explained that "overlapping circumstances" meant that Taylor was unable to reprise her role as Bayonetta. As such, Hale stepped in to take the place of the series' title role, with Miyata stating he felt she was a "good match for the character" (thanks, Nintendo Everything).

Fortnite seemingly has everything these days. The Rock. Indiana Jones. Ripley from Alien. Now, it has the car from Rocket League.

At least this collaboration makes some sense - both Rocket League maker Psyonix and Fortnite are products of Epic Games, which has already worked in the past to bring its two audiences together.

Now, you can drive Rocket League's most famous vehicle - the Octane - within Fortnite. As you'd expect, it behaves just as it would on a Rocket League pitch - able to boost to high speeds and rapidly climb up walls.

Sony Is Looking For Remakes In All the Wrong Places

1 year 5 months ago

Ahh, video game remakes. We live in an era where they feel inevitable. To many players, nothing lasts forever, and as time passes, what was once seen as revolutionary becomes lost when other games come along and refine what the originals innovated. As such, perhaps the best way to counter that is to take an old game and remake it with modern sensibilities so that a new generation can appreciate it as much as older players do.

There are plenty of remakes to look forward to in the future: Resident Evil 4 will receive a new version that should fix the original’s dated tank controls, and Dead Space will be introduced to a legion of players who never experienced the game in the first place. Sony, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to understand the kinds of games that deserve remakes.

Generally, there are three good reasons to remake a game: to fix inherent problems that have come with age, to improve on a game that may not have been great in the first place and help it reach its potential, or to re-introduce a forgotten title/franchise to a new audience. In Sony’s case, though, none of these appear to be happening with their set of remakes.

How to Get into the Mines in Hokko Life

1 year 5 months ago

Where are the mines in Hokko Life, and how do you get in? You need lots of rocks and metals like bronze, copper, and silver to craft high-end items in Hokko Life. For example, to complete your neighbor’s request to fix a broken chair, you’ll need to make steel from iron ore and coal. Unfortunately, nobody tells you where to find rocks and metals in Hokko Life – you have to find the mines and find a way in yourself.

This guide tells you everything you need to know about how to get into the mines in Hokko Life

Finding the Pickaxe in Hokko Life

Before you can collect rocks and metal ores, you’ll need a pickaxe. Once you’ve unlocked the raised area of the Meadow, travel through the archway and up the stairs. At the first intersection, continue forward. Go right past the barricaded path, then forward and up the hill at the crossroads. Finally, head up the stairs, and you’ll see the entrance to the mines.

Rocks block the entrance, but there’s a broken pickaxe on the ground. Pick it up and take it to Sally to ask her to fix it. She tells you she’ll have it ready the next day. Return the following day and talk to Sally again to get the fixed pickaxe.

Valorant to Overwatch 2 Sensitivity Change Explained

1 year 5 months ago

Blizzard’s anticipated Overwatch sequel has finally arrived and brought the franchise back into the spotlight once again. If you’re one of many new or returning players who have more recently been playing Valorant, here’s everything you need to know about Valorant to Overwatch 2 sensitivity changes and how to make the transition feel less jarring.

Understanding Valorant & Overwatch 2 Sensitivity Values

Let’s face it, Valorant and Overwatch 2 don’t really feel similar to play at all. While both are competitive shooters with hero abilities added into the mix, they control completely differently. Going from one to the other is a massive pace change and a totally different style of aiming. That all being said, you can make the transition feel much more natural by ensuring that you’re using the equivalent sensitivity across both games.

That isn’t easy to do, however, given that the two games weight in-game sensitivity values differently. For example, 1 sensitivity in Valorant is over 10 times the value in Overwatch 2!

Thankfully, there are sensitivity converters out there that allow you to easily make the adjustment. Our preference is the one from Gaming Smart, which has options to plug in different DPI settings as well for the most accurate conversion.

As an example, 0.32 sensitivity in Valorant is 3.394 in Overwatch 2.

Of course, we wouldn’t necessarily recommend that you stick with the same sensitivity across both games unless you already play with a very high sens in Valorant. Overwatch 2 requires a lot more tracking and quick 180 movements, which suits a higher sens, generally speaking.

Bayonetta Voice Actress Replaced By Mass Effect's Jennifer Hale

1 year 5 months ago

Bayonetta voice actress Hellena Taylor won’t be returning for Bayonetta 3.

A statement from PlatinumGames to Game Informer (via Nintendo Everything) has confirmed that Taylor, who voiced Bayonetta in the first two games, won’t be back.

“Various overlapping circumstances made it difficult for Hellena Taylor to reprise her role,” they confirmed. “We held auditions to cast the new voice of Bayonetta and offered the role to Jennifer Hale, whom we felt was a good match for the character.”

Hale is perhaps best known as the female voice of Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect series, as well as voicing Samus Aran in the Metroid Prime series.

“I understand the concerns some fans have about the voice change at this point in the series, but Jennifer’s performance was way beyond what we could have imagined,” they said. “I’m confident that her portrayal of Bayonetta will exceed our fans’ expectations.”

Bayonetta 3 is currently due for release at the end of the month. A sequel to Bayonetta 2, the game sees the titular heroine tackling Homunculi as she travels to the island of Thule to stop an evil entity known as The Singularity.

Xbox Seagate Expansion Cards Are Currently Discounted at Several Retailers

1 year 5 months ago

If you're in the market for expanding your Xbox's potential storage, then this deal is specifically for you. Right now you can pick up the Seagate Official Xbox Storage Expansion Card for $199.99 at multiple retailers. That's $20 off the MSRP, and the lowest price we've seen on the SSD expansion card in 2022.

Amazon, Best Buy, and Target all have the 1TB expansion card down to $199.99 at the moment, so you've got plenty of options when it comes to your retailer of choice. The only thing I'd take into account is that both Target and Amazon have got big sales set to start soon, so it might be worth holding out a couple of days to see if you can get it cheaper then. Otherwise, I'll leave the relevant links for the deal just below.

Xbox Seagate Expansion Card 1TB for $199.99 (was $219.99)

The 2TB card has also dropped to $359.99 (was $399.99) if you're after that, but the price is still a little high on that one for us to make any kind of song and dance about it for now.

If you're on PlayStation, Switch, or SteamDeck, there's also some extra storage on sale for you right now as well, check it out in our latest deals roundup.

Platinum Games Confirms Jennifer Hale As The New Voice Of Bayonetta

1 year 5 months ago

Bayonetta 3 is Game Informer's next cover story, and during our interviews with Platinum Games we asked if the months-long rumor that Bayonetta's English voice actor in the first two games, Hellena Taylor, was stepping away from the role in the upcoming entry. Taylor cryptically hinted to fans last September that she may not return in Bayonetta 3, saying she wasn't "at liberty" to elaborate further when fans pressed the issue. Platinum confirmed to us that Taylor does not reprise the role. Instead, the Umbra Witch is brought to life by veteran performer Jennifer Hale.

“Various overlapping circumstances made it difficult for Hellena Taylor to reprise her role,” says game director Yusuke Miyata. “We held auditions to cast the new voice of Bayonetta and offered the role to Jennifer Hale, whom we felt was a good match for the character. I understand the concerns some fans have about the voice change at this point in the series, but Jennifer’s performance was way beyond what we could have imagined. I’m confident that her portrayal of Bayonetta will exceed our fans’ expectations.”

Hale is a prolific voice actress with numerous video game credits. She's perhaps best known as the voice of female Commander Shepard in Mass Effect, but her roles include Samus Aran in the Metroid Prime series, Naomi Hunter in the Metal Gear Solid franchise, Ashe in Overwatch, and Rivet in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

Moonbreaker early access review: fun tabletop battling that's a bit too miniature right now

1 year 5 months ago

Moonbreaker is an early access turn-based tabletop game by the Subnautica devs, and before you ask, no there isn't a Blue Eyes White Basking Shark piece that inhales everything on the board. There are, however, plenty of sci-fi people who wield spears and guns and do battle by spending a currency called Cinder, if that's your jam.

Whether you're new to tabletop strategy or already like bashing miniatures together, the game makes for a perfectly enjoyable time. I just don't know whether it goes beyond "perfectly enjoyable" into "thrilling", though, and that may be down to its lack of, well, lots of things. Give it time and it may just evolve into a game of serious depth but right now it's a bit too miniature to recommend wholeheartedly.

Master Detective Archives: Rain Code Map Will Be Larger Than Tokyo

1 year 5 months ago

Master Detective Archives Rain Code Map

According to an upcoming interview to be published in Famitsu and spotted by Japanese tipster ryokutya2089, Master Detective Archives: Rain Code scenario writer Kazutaka Kodaka reveals that the game's map will be larger than the 23 wards of Tokyo combined. Additionally, Kodaka also spoke briefly about the game's content, including subquests and other events. Notably, Kodaka also states that there is a "big surprise" in store, but that it is still in development. [Thanks, ryokutya!]

In an interview with Famitsu Weekly, Kodaka states that the area in which the game takes place is "larger than the 23 wards of Tokyo". Known as Kanai Ward, players will explore this 3D world during their investigations as trainee detective Yuma. Furthermore, he states that there will be plenty of things for players to do, including meet-up events with other detectives, subquests, and more.

The map's sheer scale may explain why Rain Code has been in development for over six years. To this, Kodaka clarifies that the developers have been working "non-stop" during that time period. He also notes that one of the key issues in the investigative genre was the repetitiveness of investigation methods. As such, Kodaka states that they designed the game so that each case should allow players to enjoy a different way of investigation. To top it off, Kodaka goes on to note that the studio is also planning a "big surprise"

Gotham Knights has more than a Batman problem

1 year 5 months ago

In Gotham Knights, Batman is dead. "Like, dead-dead," as WB Montreal put it during our preview, and in his place comes four sub-heroes: Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing and Red Hood. These are, barring any surprises, who you will play as in Gotham Knights. I played as three of them in the preview - Batgirl and Red Hood in early game scenarios, and Robin for a late-game mission and boss fight - and I can now say with confidence that they are… fine.

It's faint praise, and I'm loath to be too harsh on Gotham Knights when we're still a few weeks away from launch. But at the moment it's underwhelming, and underwhelming in terms of real substance, rather than technical performance - it looks nice enough and ran without any hiccups while we played over streaming platform Parsec.

What's missing is a sense of conviction. The setup sees you making a base of the Belfrey, a clock tower hideout that'll be familiar to series fans, where you can mooch about and briefly chat with the other characters, swap between them, and launch missions or an exploration of the open world of Gotham City. Gotham looks quite good, but also a little muted next to the Gotham of Rocksteady's Arkham games - especially Arkham Knight - where that glorious, gothic maximalism is replaced with more of a mediumalism. The city's deep blacks seem more like faded browns, the rain doesn't fall as hard, there's no sense of sharpness, rankness, no distinctive air of criminal filth and grime, and with a kind of unnerving clarity to it all, like an old game that's been visually "remastered" by an AI, its atmosphere lost without its textured fog.

First Wild Hearts Gameplay Video Shows It’s More Than Just a Monster Hunter Clone

1 year 5 months ago

The first gameplay footage for EA’s new hunting game Wild Hearts has been released into the wild realm of YouTube. The game is being developed by Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force studio which has been behind the Dynasty Warriors series from the start. This will be the second hunting game outing for Omega Force after the two Toukiden games.

Wild Hearts was first revealed to us in a press release in mid-September when all that was said about it was that it would be the “next great hunting game”. It wasn’t until last week that the title of Wild Hearts was even revealed. Now here we are, not far out from that first look and we already get a decent chunk of gameplay.

The seven-minute gameplay video plays out as a sequence of encounters with the Kingtusk, a massive boar-like monster that also seems to be a tree-hybrid with all of the green and roots covering it. Possibly a forest spirit. You can check all that out for yourself below.

The overall look of the gameplay seems to be less rigid than Monster Hunter World, which is likely thanks to the action game legacy of Omega Force.

Kojima Is Being His Cryptic Self Again, Teasing “WHO” & “WHERE”

1 year 5 months ago

Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding mastermind, Hideo Kojima, is back at it again with his cryptic messages on Twitter. In his latest tweet, he revealed, “The answer to ‘WHO’ at TGS will be in the next ‘WHERE’.”

The image tweeted along with the vague message features a face with a relatively rounded jaw and long hair. Unfortunately, the face is completely blacked out so there’s not much else to gather about who this could be. Many internet sleuths have tried to match up the outline of the face with famous actors, but nothing really seems to be sticking yet.

If you’re interested in trying to figure out who is in this image, then check out the Tweet from Kojima down below.

As for the “WHERE” portion of the tweet, there’s absolutely no indication of what that could possibly be. At least with “WHO” there’s a clear indication that it’s in reference to this mystery person. “WHERE” could conceivably be pointing towards the location of Kojima’s next game, but there’s just not enough information to be sure about anything.

What Is CD Projekt’s New IP Codenamed Hadar? Theory Explained

1 year 5 months ago

Polish developer CD Projekt Red has endured a torrid two years since the botched launch of Cyberpunk 2077, but its fortunes are slowly changing. Earlier this month, the studio unveiled an ambitious timeline of future projects following the success of the recent Edgerunners update. Here we’re discussing what CD Projekt Red’s new IP codenamed Hadar is all about and our theories as to what it might be.

New CD Projekt Red IP Hadar Explained

While the sheer volume of CDPR’s string of new projects is somewhat surprising, their subject matter isn’t. All of the projects are set within its two immensely popular licensed IPs, The Witcher, and Cyberpunk 2077. Even after all the controversy surrounding the launch of the latter, and the resulting damage to its reputation, the studio was always likely to follow up with subsequent spin-offs and sequels. Project Hadar, however, is a different story.

The brand-new IP, codenamed “Hadar,” is the big mystery package in CDPR’s timeline. It’s an original IP, designed and conceptualized entirely in-house “from scratch,” and is said to be “distinct” from the studio’s other major pillar franchises.

So far, that’s about all we have to go on, other than the fact that it’s still in the “earliest stages of the creative process” by a “strike team” of developers. The actual development hasn’t even started on the project yet, and the company remains very tight-lipped about the nature of its design.

Now Is A Great Time To Jump Into The Hilarious Elden Ring Manga

1 year 5 months ago

Elden Ring has an official free-to-read manga. It’s a comedy, something totally unexpected and truly nothing like the game itself despite some characters fitting their roles to a T. And now, after a new set of chapters has dropped for a limited time, I can confidently say that Elden Ring: The Road to the Erdtree is…

Pokémon Go's New Event Finally Lets You Evolve Cosmog

1 year 5 months ago

When Pokémon Go added Cosmog at the start of its latest quarterly season, the Season of Light, it was (of course) done in the most confusing manner possible. This fan-favorite pocket monster was finally part of the mobile game but in a form that apparently couldn’t evolve. Well, starting today, with the launch of the…

Canceled Dune GBA Game Has Released 20 Years Later With New Name

1 year 5 months ago

A canceled GameBoy Advance game set in the Dune universe has finally been released twenty years later.

As spotted by Twitter account The Spaceshipper, Dune: Ornithopter Assault has been released on Steam as Elland: The Crystal Wars.

“Elland: The Crystal Wars will be released today on Steam,” they said. “This Game Boy Advance game was developed by Hungarian studio Soft Brigade 2 decades ago as Dune: Ornithopter Assault, before being canceled by Cryo Interactive in 2002. This is an unexpected return!”

Dune: Ornithopter Assault was originally developed for the GameBoy Advance with gameplay focusing on the iconic ornithopters from Frank Herbert’s Dune universe. Unfortunately, the game was shelved in 2002 with most of the game completed and all of the missions completable.

Here’s the game’s original synopsis (via unseen64):

Final Fantasy and Assassin's Creed Are Joining Magic: The Gathering

1 year 5 months ago

Final Fantasy and Assassin’s Creed will be joining the planes of Magic: The Gathering.

Announced during Hasbro’s Investor Day, as reported by Dicebreaker, the upcoming partnerships will see characters from both Final Fantasy and Assassin’s Creed head to the popular trading card game.

Wizards of the Coast president Cynthia Williams revealed that Final Fantasy and Assassin’s Creed will join the game via its Universes Beyond initiative – allowing MTG to include characters and such from outside of its own realms.

Unfortunately, there were no other details provided, but it certainly isn’t the first time MTG has seen crossovers from other successful franchises.

A well-received Secret Lair set based on The Walking Dead was released in 2020, bringing the likes of Rick, Daryl, Glen, and Negan into the game as legendary creatures. Although a popular seller, the set turned out to be pretty controversial – featuring unique cards instead of reprints.

Many MTG players argued that the cards should have been silver-bordered, making them not tournament-legal. However, Wizards of the Coast argued that an MTG version of these unique cards could be reprinted any number of times in future sets. Since they’re not part of a set, they were never standard legal but could be used in Commander decks.

Other crossovers to date have included Fortnite, Street Fighter, and an upcoming Warhammer 40,000 set.
