Persona 5 Last Cloudia Event Begins

The teased Last Cloudia Persona 5 Royal event is now live in-game. It features Goro “Crow” Akechi, Kasumi “Violet” Yoshizawa, Ren “Joker” Amamiya, and Morgana as playable characters. However, people won’t have to pull to get at least one. Everyone will get either Joker or Morgana.

It looks at Joker first, showing him in battle. Then, it shows his traits. Mafia 3 Developer Hangar 13 Hit With More Layoffs

1 year 11 months ago

Hangar 13, the studio behind Mafia III, is facing yet another round of layoffs.

According to a report by Kotaku, developers at all three of the studio’s worldwide locations were let go today. The layoffs have hit the Novato, California office particularly hard — nearly 50 developers at this office alone lost their jobs, drastically shrinking the size of the office’s staff, which had just 87 employees before today.

“I know it sucks,” Brighton, UK office head Nick Baynes told Novato staffers today, according to Kotaku. “I’m sorry I’m not over there to deliver this message. I will be coming over soon. I know you need some local leadership and structure and we’re working on it.”

This isn’t the first time Hangar 13 has laid off large numbers of staffers — the studio fired significant numbers of employees in both 2017 and 2018. The studio was also drastically affected by the cancellation of the Take-Two project titled Volt, which was scrapped despite a $53 million investment and left around 200 developers without a project.

According to Kotaku, Baynes said the plan is for remaining developers at Hangar 13 to focus on the Mafia prequel and Project Hammer, another project currently in the works.

Apex Legends Mobile Review

1 year 11 months ago

At first, Apex Legends Mobile seems like an ill-proposed idea. After all, Apex on the Nintendo Switch didn’t work out as well as we’d all hoped, and it’s a struggle to properly experience the best parts of Respawn’s battle royale on that platform due to the lack of horsepower. However, Apex Legends Mobile is not a direct port of Apex Legends; instead, it is its own standalone experience that is extremely polished and well optimized for iOS and Android. I’ve been pleasantly surprised to find myself enjoying my time playing on my tiny screens -- and that’s coming from someone who is not usually a mobile-first gamer. In fact, in some ways I found myself liking Apex Mobile more than I do the PC and console version, given the current state they’re in.

Apex Mobile isn’t cross-platform compatible with its sibling but it’s not a big departure, either: it uses the same basic formula of playing in teams of three, and of the 10 Legends available at launch, nine are the originals from Apex Legends’ launch: Bangalore, Bloodhound, Caustic, Gibraltar, Lifeline, Mirage, Octane, Pathfinder, Wraith. Having the original group available feels fine, especially since these Legends are still highly viable in the original game – and they’re even more so here without the additional Legends who were dropped in the PC/console version after launch.

The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki Gets Cruel English Trailer with Localization Announcement Still MIA

1 year 11 months ago

Today Clouded Leopard Entertainment released an English trailer of The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki, but it isn’t what you may think it is.

Clouded Leopard Entertainment has the license to localize the latest games of the beloved Trails series for the Asian market in Traditional Chinese and Korean, but not in English.

As such, they’re going to release the game’s PS5 and Steam version on July 28, 2022, day and date with the Japanese release, but only in the languages mentioned above.

The English localization, which is probably going to come from NIS America, still hasn’t even been announced despite the fact that this game was originally released in Japan for PS4 in September 2021.

The publisher plans to localize The Legend of Heroes Trails From Zero (which is coming on September 27), The Legend of Heroes Trails to Azure, The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails, and The Legend of Heroes: Trails Into Reverie for PS4, Switch, and PC all the way into 2023, which means that the perspective of playing Kuro no Kiseki in English is unfortunately quite far in the future.

Harrison Ford Announces Indiana Jones 5 Release Date At Star Wars Celebration

1 year 11 months ago

No stranger to Star Wars or the annual celebration happening right now in Anaheim, CA, Harrison Ford made a surprise appearance at the Lucasfilm Showcase today, but he didn't show up for a space-faring adventure this time around. Instead, he arrived to promote another Lucasfilm franchise he stars in by the name of Indiana Jones and dropped the big news of a 2023 release date for the next film installment.

Ford's segment started with a musical introduction by longtime Star Wars and Indy composer John Williams (who celebrated his 90th birthday in February) playing him onto the stage. Ford spoke about working on the new Indian Jones film and how it was nearing completion. "I had a wonderful experience working with James Mangold," said Ford, according to a Tweet from Decider. "I am really proud of the movie that we made. So I'll be seeing you around campus."

Before leaving the stage, Harrison Ford dropped potentially the biggest bit of information from today's panel: Indiana Jones 5 will be released in theaters on June 30, 2023. How about that for a final segment surprise?

Rogue One Prequel Series Andor Premieres On Disney Plus In August

1 year 11 months ago

Star Wars Celebration began today with a panel showing with a showcase of the projects Lucasfilm is working on, and the new Star Wars series Andor had the spotlight after the cast of Obi-Wan Kenobi left the stage. Not only was there a brief interview with the show's cast and crew, but a teaser trailer debuted along with the release date on Disney+ of August 31.

The teaser trailer shown is musically paced with anvil-like percussion and throat-singing casting the theme of the footage. Focusing on the growing tension between the rebellious citizens and the overbearing Empire, Andor will depict the five years of Cassian Andor's life prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The trailer shows those citizens preparing for conflict with imperial forces while Diego Luna's Andor voices his displeasure with the Empire over the footage. We, of course, see Cassian Andor sneaking around, but also a new look at Genevieve O'Reilly returning as Mon Mothma, who last played this role in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Peppered throughout are shots of a lush forest, a stark white base set in a body of water, and a large futuristic city that is most likely Coruscant.

Breaking Star Wars TV News: The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, And Something New Called Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

1 year 11 months ago

The first season of The Book of Boba Fett almost transformed into the third season of The Mandalorian, so we haven't been away from Grogu, Luke Skywalker, and Din Djarin for too long. The wait to be reunited with them again, however, will be a little longer than expected. The Mandalorian's third season won't hit this year. The first episode is now officially slated to release in February 2023.

This news comes from the first day of Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, Calif. The series' creators, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, took to the stage in front of a packed theater to deliver the update. Actor Rosario Dawson also appeared in full Jedi makeup from the set of Ahsoka to reveal it would also be hitting in 2023, but no month was given.

Filoni and Favreau then surprised the crowd with the announcement of a new show called Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. This Disney Plus show is scheduled to launch in 2023 and will star Jude Law. It's yet another project touched by Favreau and Filoni and also has Jon Watts and Christopher Ford serving as executive producers. You can see the official teaser image below:

Get Cities: Skylines and almost all its DLC for £16 in latest Humble charity bundle

1 year 11 months ago

Budding urban planners that somehow still haven't found their way toward Colossal Order's enormously entertaining city builder Cities: Skylines now have no excuse. You can pick up the base game and almost all its DLC on PC for around £16 in the latest Humble charity bundle.

Cities: Skylines was a solidly entertaining city builder when it released all the way back in 2015, but seven years of expansions and other post-launch DLC haved created a game of truly amazing scope. However, getting your hands on absolutely everything that's released thus far is, inevitably, an extremely pricey undertaking even during sale season.

Hop over to the Humble Store right now though, and you can pick up publisher Paradox Interactive's Cities: Skylines Colossal Collection. This features a total of 32 items (usually costing £204.39), including the base game, plus its After Dark, Snowfall, Natural Disasters, Mass Transit, Green Cities, Parklife, Industries, Campus, and Sunset Harbour expansions.

The Callisto Protocol 'No Longer Takes Place in the PUBG Universe' According to Creator

1 year 11 months ago

Striking Distance Studios CEO Glen Schofield revealed that upcoming game The Callisto Protocol no longer takes place within the PUBG universe.

"FYI @CallistoTheGame is its own story and world," he explained on Twitter. "It no longer takes place in the PUBG Universe. It was originally part of the PUBG timeline, but grew into its own world. PUBG is awesome, and we will still have little surprises for fans, but TCP is its own world, story and universe."

The survival horror game was originally announced in December 2020 and was going to take place within the same universe as PUBG several centuries into the future. However, it was unclear what kind of ties the two games would have. Earlier this week, Schofield stated that The Callisto Protocol was so far into the future in 2320 that any connections didn't even really matter. Now, he clarifies that there simply aren't any.

Phil Spencer Says He Will Recognize Raven Software's Union Once Acquisition is Complete

1 year 11 months ago

Just days after QA workers at Raven Software voted to unionize, Xbox’s head Phil Spencer announced that he will recognize the new union after the company acquires Activision Blizzard.

According to a report by Kotaku, during an internal meeting today, Spencer said he would “absolutely support” the union.

“Once the deal closes, we would absolutely support [an] employees’ organization that’s in place,” he told employees during the internal meeting, according to Kotaku. “We think it is a right of employees and something that can be a part of a relationship between a company and people who work at the company.”

Previously, Microsoft had announced that it wouldn’t “stand in the way” of unionization, though today marks the first time a Microsoft executive has officially announced their support for the union.

The company’s move to acquire Activision Blizzard is still being investigated and has been muddied by various complaints and protests against Activision Blizzard, including a lawsuit over allegations of “frat boy culture” and unequal pay.

Star Citizen Reveals Drake Mule Space Truck as Crowdfunding Passes $467 Million

1 year 11 months ago

Today Cloud Imperium Games released another video showcasing a new vehicle coming to its growing space game Star Citizen.

The new vehicle is made by Drake and it’s named the “Mule.” It’s petty much what you expect, a space truck with six wheels for good measure.

Players will actually be able to drive it soon enough, as the Mule will make its playable debut at this year’s Invictus Launch Week on May 28. To be precise, it’ll be at Drake’s own “Defensecon” spin-off event. The Invictus Launch Week celebrate the UEE navy, and Drake being Drake, they’re not invited.

That being said, this means that everyone will be able to play with the Mule for free and enjoy a couple of days as a space Fedex delivery person thanks to the ongoing free fly event. That’s pretty much what this truck is all about.

You can check it out below.

In other Star Citizen news, the crowdfunding total has just passed $467 million and it’s currently sitting on $467,478,233.

The number of registered accounts has also recently surpassed 3.8 million, and it’s at 3,849,053 at the moment of this writing.

War Thunder Joins Top Gun: Maverick’s Bandwagon With F-14 Tomcat & “Danger Zone” Update Teaser

1 year 11 months ago

With the release of Top Gun: Maverick the interest in aviation seems to have spiked, and game developers have certainly been working hard with themed DLC, from Microsoft Flight Simulator to Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.

War Thunder developer Gaijin Entertainment may not have an official movie license, but this certainly isn’t deterring them from jumping on the bandwagon.

With its tech trees having recently advanced as far as the A-10 Thunderbolt, it may be a little early to introduce Maverick’s F/A-18E Super Hornet, but there is another famous Top Gun aircraft ripe for the taking, and it’s the F-14 Tomcat.

That’s exactly what’s coming with the upcoming update teased today, aptly titled “Danger Zone.”

You can check the beloved carrier-borne fighter jet out in the trailer below.

War Thunder is currently playable for free (with the usual optional purchases that many believe aren’t all that optional) for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5.

The Callisto Protocol No Longer Takes Place In The PUBG Universe

1 year 11 months ago

The Callisto Protocol is one of the most anticipated horror games in years and happens to be our June cover story. One of the project’s more intriguing aspects was that it canonically took place in the same universe as popular battle royale PUBG: Battlegrounds, albeit in the distant future and on another planet. As of today, that’s no longer the case.

Glen Schofield, The Callisto Protocol’s creative director, took to Twitter to announce that the game now unfolds within its own story and fiction and not PUBG’s.

Minecraft's long-awaited The Wild Update gets June release date

1 year 11 months ago

Minecraft's long-awaited The Wild Update - which includes two new biomes, new mobs, and various other delights - finally has a release date, and will be launching on 7th June.

The Wild Update's first major addition comes in the form of the new Mangrove Swamp biome, bringing mangrove trees and a new natural (and craftable) resource known as mud blocks. It also ushers in the highly anticipated Deep Dark biome, which was originally due to launch as part of the Caves & Cliffs update before getting delayed.

The Deep Dark biome, as its name very much implies, is Minecraft's deepest area to date, and is found beneath the game's current bedrock layer. Here, curious adventures will uncover remnants of a ruined civilisation as well as creepy, eyeless mobs known as Wardens. These fearsome foes react to vibrations, meaning stealth is the key to survival, and can also be summoned if careless explorers stumble into the new Shrieker traps.

Dead Space creator's The Callisto Protocol has ditched ties with PUBG universe

1 year 11 months ago

Ever since its unveiling in 2020, Dead Space creator Glen Schofield's sci-fi horror The Callisto Protocol has conjured images of Dead Space, so it was a bit of a surprise when, due to various studio connections, it was announced the game would be set in the PUBG Universe. That, however, is no longer the case, with Schofield now saying it's its "own story and world".

The Callisto Protocol is a third-person horror game set in 2320, with its action unfolding within the confines of the Black Iron prison colony on Jupiter's moon Callisto. While that set-up mightn't immediately scream PUBG to onlookers, the connection came from the fact developer Striking Distance was explicitly established by PUBG: Battlegrounds publisher Krafton to create narrative-driven games that would expand the universe introduced in the battle royale hit.

As Schofield explained in a recent GameInformer cover feature on The Callisto Protocol, "When we came in, [Krafton] had a lore team and they were writing this big story, like, 'Where does PUBG start? Where does it fit in?'". Had those plans continued, the horror game would have sat "pretty far out" along the timeline, but somewhere during development the idea was dropped.

Goodfellas and GTA: Vice City star Ray Liotta has died

1 year 11 months ago

Legendary actor Ray Liotta, who made a memorable impact on the world of gaming as the voice of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City protagonist Tommy Vercetti in 2002, has died aged 67.

Although Liotta only ever starred in one other game - Call of Duty: Black Ops 2's DLC pack Mob of the Dead in 2013 - the actor had a long, enormously prolific career in both film and television, appearing in wide variety of productions, ranging from beloved baseball movie Field of Dreams to ER, and, more recently, Apple's psychological thriller Black Bird.

Arguably his most iconic role, though, remains his 1990 breakthrough performance in Martin Scorsese's movie classic Goodfellas, where he starred as real-life mobster Henry Hill alongside the likes of Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci.
