Sony Drops Extended Plane Fight Scene For Upcoming Uncharted Movie

2 years 3 months ago

At Sony’s CES presser recently, the Japanese company pulled back the curtain on its much-anticipated filmic adaptation of its action-adventure video game series, Uncharted.

Unlike much of the edited trailers we’ve seen of the movie so far, this was an extended look at a full action sequence seemingly taken wholesale from the upcoming movie.

Go ahead and feast your eyes on some Nathan Drake-battling action in the new clip down below.

Helmed by Reuben Fleischer, the director behind 2009’s Zombieland and 2018’s Venom, it appears that Uncharted’s iconic action seems tonally on-brand. That said, I’d be lying if I said I was 100% excited for the movie.

Having gone through numerous re-writes, directors and actors, the pic has ostensibly been in development hell since 2010 when rumors of a film adaptation first surfaced.

Of course, I’m quietly optimistic for some lighthearted popcorn entertainment, but the writing is on the wall for yet another dud of a video game adaptation. Fingers crossed I’m completely off base, eh?

I mean yeah, of course Konami are selling NFTs; they're Konami

2 years 3 months ago

Konami, the Japanese company best known for squandering every shred of goodwill they built through series like Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid, are getting into NFTs. Of course they are. Should've guessed. While publishers like Square Enix, EA, and Take-Two are still contemplating NFTs, I am not remotely surprised that Konami are one of the first notable names to actually start selling useless digital junk. Next week, they will hold an auction for NFTs of videos, artwork, and music from early Castlevania games. Konami, man.

Multiple High-Profile FIFA Ultimate Team Traders Hacked in the Same Week

2 years 3 months ago

High-profile FIFA Ultimate Team traders are being targeted by hackers who are draining their accounts of FIFA points and in-game currency.

A number of the most prolific FIFA Ultimate Team traders have taken to Twitter to not only reveal that they have been hacked, but also complain about EA’s handling of the issue.

It appears many of the top 100 traders have been targeted, including current top Ultimate Team trader on PlayStation, FUT Donkey. The hackers are seemingly taking player gamertags from the in-game FIFA leader boards, and using this to file a support ticket with EA in an effort to gain access to the account. By pretending to be the account holder, hackers have been able to successfully persuade EA to hand over the associated email address and a reset password link, enabling the hacker to then rinse the trader’s account of currency.

Charles Martinet Says He 'Dreams As Mario'

2 years 3 months ago

Charles Martinet, the voice actor behind a whole host of characters from the Super Mario franchise including the likes of Luigi, Wario, and of course Mario himself, says that he falls asleep and dreams as the series' signature character.

During an interview with Retro Gamer, the voice actor spoke about a number of topics, including how he came to land the role, his experiences as a voice actor, and his time working on the Netflix documentary High Score. However, when asked how he prepares for a recording session with Nintendo, Martinet's answer seemed to perfectly capture his love and dedication to the characters that he has so successfully brought to life.

"These characters for me are always there," explains Martinet. "I mean, I dream as Mario, flying over these lakes or over the ocean, in the moonlight, a little bit Galaxy-esque. And I sometimes dream in 2D. If I wake up in the morning and I'm having a lousy day, I'm like [Wario growl]. These voices are just alive in me, along with [sings the Super Mario Bros start jingle] [Mario] Go! So, there's not a lot of preparation [for Nintendo]."

In addition to speaking about how he prepares for each session, Martinet also explained that his roles across different games for Nintendo would vary in terms of the time commitment and the approach to scheduling that the company would take.

Update: Days Gone Sales Numbers Might Be Lower Than 8 Million After Director Reveals Source Was Site That Tracks Trophies

2 years 3 months ago

Update, 1/7/21:

Yesterday, Game Informer reported that Days Gone director Jeff Ross said Bend Studio's latest game sold more than Ghost of Tsushima, which recently hit a milestone after selling 8 million copies. However, in a recent livestream with former God of War and Twisted Metal director David Jaffe, Ross revealed that his source for the sales numbers was a now-defunct website called Gamestat, which tracks PlayStation Trophy data, as reported by PushSquare

Here's what Ross said: "Where I got my data from, I had access to a lot of telemetry, and I could see stuff and when we were at 5 million copies – when we were announced at 5 million copies – the telemetry data was at 5.8 [million]. There are basically resells or shared discs. I was actually using an external website – I think they're offline now – but they were using trophy data and it lined up with our internal telemetry data so for me, it's like, 'good enough.'"

Ross then said that when leaving Sony, you don't necessarily get final numbers for a game's sales. Ross also said as a creative director, he didn't have access to the complete and official Sony numbers.

Yun Jin Sings About Shenhe in New Genshin Impact Trailer; New “Alternate Outfits” Coming

2 years 3 months ago

Following the release of Version 2.4 of Genshin Impact, developer MiHoYo published a new trailer featuring the new characters that came with the update.

This time around unlike the previous trailer that showcased Yun Jin’s backstory, and the one showing her gameplay, the trailer focuses on everyone’s new favorite opera singer, but also involves the other new character, Shenhe

Basically, Yun Jin does the singing (entirely in Chinese, with a professional performer from the renowned Peking Opera lending her the voice), but she’s recounting the story of Shenhe. It’s definitely a great way to introduce the two heroines.

You can watch the trailer below.

A Bug Delayed Assassin's Creed: Valhalla's Christmas Event Into January

2 years 3 months ago

Being put on the naughty list might lead to Christmas being cancelled, but for video game NPCs and players alike, it seems that a simple bug can at least lead to it being delayed. At least that's the case for Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Yule-themed update, which is still yet to arrive for some players in the game.

Image%20Credit%3A%20Ubisoft

As reported by Eurogamer, the Yuletide celebrations that were supposed to kick off over the holiday period were unfortunately delayed for many players due to a bug in the game. The bug mainly seemed to affect players who had partaken in the festive event the year before, shortly after Valhalla had launched.

Fortunately, however, Ubisoft has now stated that today's title update patch will fix the issue for all players, who will now be able to resume the festivities in-game until January 27 when the event is set to end.

Konami Celebrates Castlevania's 35th Anniversary By Auctioning NFTs

2 years 3 months ago

Konami has announced the launch of an NFT collection to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Castlevania.

The "KONAMI MEMORIAL NFT" collection features 14 unique artworks from the Castlevania series in celebration of the iconic franchise's 35th anniversary, though it actually comes a few months on from the milestone date in September. The complete collection will be available for the worldwide auction on OpenSea (a popular online marketplace for NFTs) from January 12.

Konami's official website offers a preview of the digital items that are going up for sale at the Castlevania 35th anniversary auction, including NFTs (non-fungible tokens) consisting of "game scenes, background music (BGM), and newly drawn visuals" from the series' rich history, which spans back to 1986 when the franchise's first console title was released.

The Pope Just Watched a Circus Perform to Music from Undertale

2 years 3 months ago

In perhaps one of the more absurd stories to kick off 2022, the Pope has just watched a circus perform, set to music from Undertale.

As spotted by fans on Twitter (and reported by The Gamer), the Pope appears to have started the new year the right way by watching a group of circus performers put on a display to the sound of Undertale's 'Megalovania'.

For context, each week Pope Francis holds a General Audience. Often attended by groups of pilgrims, the Pope uses the event to impart his benedictions to those present in a number of different languages before sometimes also hosting performers to entertain his guests. While these performances vary and come in a range of varieties, the most recent featured a sllightly bemusing display by a group of circus performers who executed a routine to the backing of Sans' theme from Undertale.

As can be seen in the tweet above, the whole thing comes off a little jarring. Between performers juggling objects in a multitude of ways, a short trip out by a red-dressed unicyclist, and a member of the group positioned upside down on a chair twirling a large baton between their feet, it's not like there wasn't plenty to keep the audiences attention held.

Konami Celebrating Castlevania’s 35th Anniversary With New 'Memorial NFT' Collection

2 years 3 months ago

Konami is celebrating the 35th anniversary of its Castlevania series with a new “memorial NFT” collection.

More specifically, the company is auctioning 14 NFTs, some of which are just static images, others which appear to be videos. You can, of course, view each right now on their website – no purchase required – but you won’t be able to see how much each is going for as the auctions won’t begin until January 12.

“Konami Memorial NFT is a new initiative to share content that has been loved by players all over the world, for many years,” a press release reads. “As the company’s first project in this area and with NFTs and blockchains technology in its infancy, Konami will continue to explore new developments and listen to player feedback following this initial collection.”

Konami says the artworks consist of game scenes, background music, and “newly drawn visuals from across the series’ history.” The company also teases the future of the Castlevania series, citing that it will “continue to support the titles currently available, while also assessing new opportunities for titles that will meet and exceed player expectations.”

Here are a few of the NFTs Konami will auction off on January 12 – as for what makes these special versus other pieces of art and other videos, that's up to you:

Horizon Forbidden West Trailer Spotlights The Cultures Of Its Tribes

2 years 3 months ago

Horizon Forbidden West's new west coast setting isn’t just inhabited by fearsome new machines. Aloy will also encounter tribes and cultures, some friends and some foes. Guerrilla Games released a video reintroducing players to familiar tribes such as the Oseram, Utaru, and Tenakth, giving a rundown of their culture and standing in this region of the country.

We see the Utaru, a culture in tune with nature, singing songs in an effort to cure their land of the blight. On the flip side, the battle-hardened Tenakth, which is divided into three clans, serves as the dominant tribe in the Forbidden West. One of those clans is the Regalla, the rebel faction shown in previous trailers that are at war with their fellow clansfolk. As powerful as the Tenakth is, the trailer hints at rumors of an even stronger group residing on the outer reaches of the Forbidden West.
