Final Fantasy XV Director Hajime Tabata Will Reveal His New JRPG in 2022

2 years 4 months ago

Back in 2018, Hajime Tabata left Square Enix to form his own studio JP Games. Apparently, he’s ready to return to the genre that made him well known, JRPGs.

Tabata-san’s latest release in the genre is Final Fantasy XV, which he directed. He also worked on previous titles of the series, like Final Fantasy Type-0.

After forming JP Games, he released something completely different in the form of the virtual world connected with the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics The Pegasus Dream Tour.

Yet, he has also been working on a new JRPG, and he talked about it within an extensive article published by Japanese website 4Gamer, in which local developers shared their plans for next year.

Tabata-san mentioned that looks like he’ll be able to reveal his new JRPG in 2022. His goal for the year is to expand JP Games’ business in games and in the metaverse.

Speaking of the metaverse, JP games is also working on that kind of application for the airline All Nippon Airways (ANA), with the recently announced “Sky Whale.”

2 years 4 months ago

Koei Tecmo had a quite active 2021, with several new releases, but it appears that 2022 holds some interesting potential as well.

Today Japanese website 4Gamer published an extensive article in which local developers shared their plans for 2022, and that includes several from the Yokohama-based developer.

We hear from Yosuke Hayashi, whom you may remember for his work on the Dead or Alive series, currently working as the general manager of the entertainment division.

He mentions that in 2022 Koei Tecmo will reveal games that have been in the works for several years and that will pave the way for the future of the company. According to Hayashi-san, they will show the “full power of the current Koei Tecmo.”

President and CEO Hisashi Koinuma echoed him by mentioning that 2022 will mark the release of several games developed by the company.

Team Ninja brand director Fumihiko Yasuda asks fans to look forward to future titles, including the action game set in the Three Kingdom era and another that he is personally directing, that is finally taking shape after years of planning.

Last, but not least, producer Yosuke Kikuchi, known for the Fatal Frame series, mentioned that in 2022 his team will challenge the development of something that they have never done before. It will take a long time before it can be announced, but he’d like to create something fun via trial and error.

Octopath Traveler Producers Tease Multiple New Announcements

2 years 4 months ago

Square Enix has found success with its retro-style JRPGs like Octopath Traveler, and apparently, there is more coming down the line from the same developers.

Octopath Traveler producer Tomoya Asano and Masashi Takahashi, both of whom have also worked on the Bravely Default series and are currently laboring on Triangle Strategy, dropped some teases within an extensive article published by Japanese website 4Gamer, in which local developers shared their plans for next year.

Asano-san mentioned that 2022 will see the release of Triangle Strategy and the 10th anniversary of the Bravely series, but there are multiple announcements and releases coming. According to him, it may be the biggest year ever for the team.

Takahashi-san also echoed that sentiment, mentioning the hope to make a number of announcements in 2022.

No further hints were provided about the nature of said announcements, but considering the developers’ resumes, there are certainly plenty of reasons to be excited.

Could we hear about a new Octopath Traveler game (this time for consoles, hopefully), of something else entirely? We’ll likely know later next year.

"On behalf of the entire NFL family, we extend our condolences to Virginia, Mike, Joe and their families," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. "We all know him as the Hall of Fame coach of the Oakland Raiders and broadcaster who worked for every major network, but more than anything, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

"Nobody loved football more than Coach. He was football. He was an incredible sounding board to me and so many others. There will never be another John Madden, and we will forever be indebted to him for all he did to make football and the NFL what it is today."

John Madden was born in Austin, Minnesota on April 10, 1936, and quickly became a star in the world of football. He was drafted in the 21st round of the NFL draft in 1958 to the Philadelphia Eagles, but he injured his knee during his first training camp and never had the chance to play in the NFL.

John Madden Dies At 85

2 years 4 months ago

John Madden, an NFL legend who is in the Hall of Fame and is the namesake for EA's Madden NFL video game series, has died. He was 85.

Madden died Tuesday morning, the NFL confirmed, as reported by the Associated Press. Madden coached the Oakland Raiders to great success, including a Super Bowl victory in 1976.

After retiring from coaching with the second-highest winning percentage of any coach (behind the legendary Vince Lombardi), he moved on to become an NFL analyst and has won several Emmy awards, we reported in 2009. The heavy travel demanded by Madden's broadcast job was aggravated by a severe fear of flying, leading the analyst to drive from destination to destination in a tricked-out RV called "The Madden cruiser."

As of 2016, Madden was still helping out with the video game series.

Heavy Rain-esque Episodic Adventure Game The Lawyer Gets Debut PC Trailer

2 years 4 months ago

Objection, your Honor! They say that a lawyer with a suitcase can steal more than a hundred men with guns – pretty deep, right? – but if you’ve ever wanted to test that proverb out, then developer ManyDev Studios‘ newly-announced court case murder mystery, The Lawyer, may be just what the, well, attorney ordered.

Feel free to check out the debut trailer for the The Lawyer’s first case down below:

As you can see in the footage above, the first episode is dubbed The Red Bathtub and focuses on the strange murder of young lady whose body is found dead in a – you guessed it! – bathtub.

Of course, each episode will focus on a separate case for players to unravel. Furthermore, players will have to visit the crime scene and piece together the evidence, interview the witnesses, and most importantly, cross-examine the suspects in a courtroom setting to help get to the bottom of the mystery.

No, no, the real best immersive sim this year is co-open by lowpolis, obviously!

2021 in review: Finding games to play together

2 years 4 months ago

Hello! Over the next few days we're going to be going back over some of our favourite games and moments and themes and whatnot from this very strange year. We hope you enjoy looking back with us!

It's not easy finding games to play with other people in the same house. You'll know this if you've tried. It's one of the reasons I was so impressed with It Takes Two earlier in the year. It's not only playable in local co-op but entirely designed for it, which means gameplay solutions require two people rather than can also be played by two people. For instance, one person throws giant nails into a wall while the other person uses the head of a giant claw hammer to swing on them. It's just one example and there are many - the ideas keep changing and they keep coming - and it's brilliant. It Takes Two is probably the best example of dedicated local co-op gaming in years, if not ever.

The two-hit headline for this laptop is that it packs a high-end Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card with an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX processor. If you’re excited to kill Chaos in Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin, experiencing everything the adventure has to offer will require jumping through an extra hoop. Square Enix has announced that the game will feature additional, downloadable missions that won’t be available at launch. The catch? You can only get them by pre-ordering the game digitally.

The missions in question are called Trials of the Dragon King, Wanderer of the Rift, and Different Future. There are no details on what they entail content-wise, only that they won’t be available to purchase separately. The only way to access them is via the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, which runs for $89.99. This means that pre-ordering the physical edition does not include the extra missions, so fans on that side of the fence will be missing out.
